Journal #3: For ALL SENIORS (Creative Writing and Modern American Themes): Research Kick-Off

Once your research paper topic is approved, you should start researching and reading up on your topic. Many of you, if not ALL of you, will probably have to narrow your topic so that it is more focused. Your early research should help to accomplish this focus.

For Monday, Oct. 20, write (and post here at Schoolsville) a minimum of 250 words as to why you have chosen your research paper topic, what approach you might take (persuasive, analytical, argumentative, compare-contrast, etc.), what your subtopics might be, and where you intend to research (books, magazines, journals, web sites, databases, etc.).

Posting this on time and fulfilling the requirements is worth 5 points.

As for my research paper I have chosen to research the issue of college graduate debt. I chose to research this topic because although not the number one issue in America as of now, this issue is a great impact on this time in our lives. With the economy the way is it its hard to not make salary a large decision making factor when it comes to our career we wish to pursue. Focusing on that element now a days comes with a huge risk. Although the outcome may be worth it, careers in such fields as Law and Medical require an additional number of years in school. The risk is the statistics on the percent on people who go through school and pursue those careers and are in debt is tremendously high. Spending money and time on a career and it not being successful hurts many graduates in America each year. My research will be around the information set on this topic, and what Americans think can be done to help the high percent of debt go down. This research with view the reasons what people think about the high cost of a good education. I think information on this topic will be available online, newspapers, and also including journals. Finding this topic will open my eyes to the things to consider that may have a positive impact on my future. This topic will interest me because at this time financial factors are a huge decision making factor for choosing a college in the close time to come.

Art is one of those encompassing, enigmatic concepts that is beautifully designed to be understood and interpreted in a variety of ways. Art many times is construed to be only a painting or a drawing. However, it is so much more than that. Art can definitely be a painting, but it can also be a play, a song, a movie, and even a book. I am seeking to discover the different portrayals of a single theme throughout these different genres of art. The theme that I am very interested in exploring is the theme of desperation.

First, I will be looking at Edvard Munch’s masterpiece The Scream. By simply looking at the painting, I immediately see that the figure painted is trapped in its world, whether its a physical world or mental world I am not quite sure, but the figure is desperate to escape it. He is “screaming” but no one is hearing him.

Second, I will be analyzing the movie Extraordinary Measures which shows the desperation that accompanies trying to no avail to protect those you love. This movie also touches on what I want to do in life in biomedical engineering so this movie interests me in this way as well. However, this is a very visual portrayal of the desperation because it is being acted out on the screen rather than being a two dimensional painting like The Scream.

The third work of art that I will be studying is William Shakespeare’s drama Romeo and Juliet. This play encompasses the breaking point that people face many times when they want what they cannot have. At this breaking point, the characters are so desperate for peace and love that the only way they believe they can achieve that is through death.

I will definitely take a compare-contrast approach while writing this paper; furthermore, I believe I will be somewhat persuasive as to the beauty hidden in the desperation in each of these works. I plan to explore different books, journals, and websites to uncover the intent of of these works, the analysis of these works, and potentially the effect of these works.
Throughout this process, my goal is to expose the similar feeling of desperation that everyone experiences at least once in his or her life, and to show how relatable desperation is no matter how it is portrayed.

For my research paper, my broad topic was pharmacy, and then I narrowed it down to the pharmacy in regards to cancer. Cancer is a very upsetting topic to most people, but I chose to write about it because it is something that has affected me. Cancer has affected mostly everyone in some way, and it has taken multiple loved ones of mine. In a world where technology is flourishing and innovations are multiplying, I want to learn about the progress of cancer-related drugs as they approach a cure. As a potential pharmacist one day, I would love to contribute to the search for a cure for cancer, so I want to begin now by learning the background information. The set up for my paper will be the past, present, and future of cancer-related drugs. I will start with a brief background of cancer and follow the path that medicine has taken in response to it. I will have three subtopics: different drug developments, experimentations, and laboratory research. For the different drug developments, I will research how the current drugs used to treat cancer came about and do similarly for the results of the experimentations. For the laboratory research, I will try to discover modern projects occurring around the world now. It will be mostly informational and analytical because I will be presenting information and making inferences, meaning there will be a lot of reading and research involved in this paper. I plan to seek this information by using the Internet as my main source. Databases with articles and scientific studies will be very resourceful as well. I am excited to write this paper because the topic is something that is very important to me, and I am interested in science and medicine.

For my research paper I have chosen sustainable energy as my topic. I want to study chemical engineering in college and this is one area in that subject I am interested in. I think this is going to be an important field in the future as our demand for energy increases and our supply of fossil fuels decreases rapidly. We will need to come up with new solutions as to where our energy is going to come from in the future. Wind and solar energy harnessing technology is not currently efficient and will not handle the needs of our economy on their own. New technologies such as bio-batteries, ethanol from biomass, and nuclear fusion offer possible sources of energy for the future. Bio-batteries use enzymes to convert common sugars into electrical energy and would theoretically have much more power than current batteries with instantaneous recharging. Ethanol is a liquid fuel that can be produced from grain products such as corn, and this process is becoming more efficient and cost effective. Nuclear fusion occurs in the sun and would produce much less waste than nuclear fission and without the radiation. Scientists are currently studying how to create this effect on Earth and how to make it efficient. I will most likely take an analytical approach, researching the cost and benefit of each technology as well as its efficiency and likelihood of sustaining our economy. My subtopics will be each of the three new technologies mentioned. I intend to use the Internet as my main source of research, because these technologies are not old enough to be in many published books, as well as recent magazine articles. I will use studies and the results of conducted experiments to find most of the information about my topic.

Fashion week, the event of the year that allows industry’s to know what’s “in” and what’s “out” for the season. Many people believe fashion trends are just another excuse for every individual to be a clone of the person next to them, but fashion itself is more than meets the eye. An individual’s choice of wardrobe can give you a first hand look at their personality. For example a woman wearing a business suit would come off a lot more conservative than a woman in a mini skirt. In my research paper I hope to express Fashion week and it’s impact on America.
First, I will be explaining the history of Fashion week; how it came about, the notable icons of our era, and the change in the fashion trends throughout the years. Second, I will explain whom or what influences designers to make/ consumers to buy certain clothing. Many things influence individuals to dress a certain way: music, celebrities, even our daily peers. Lastly, I will explain the competition of trends throughout the companies: what the role of the merchandisers will be, what the marketing approach entitles, and what manufactures must be used. I chose this last sub topic to relate it back to my choice of major as a Business marketer and Fashion merchandiser.
I would like to take more of an analytical approach. I intend to use high fashion magazines, blogs of fashion designers, news paper articles on Fashion week and fashion as a whole, and of course books.

This year, we read the short story called "Fish Cheeks" by Amy Tan. The short story explored mother- daughter relationships and the Chinese-American culture. In just one brief narrative, Amy Tan utilized many literary devices for example, alliteration, personification, metaphors, and similes. She also brought some kind of rhythm to the story. She even exhibited a strong tone. On top of that, she teaches us a very valuable lesson: Be proud of your background. This simple lesson is reiterated by Tan through a inspirational short story. Also, this is a lesson I can definitely relate to because of my Korean background. Therefore, out of interest and curiosity, I have decided to write my research paper on the writing styles of Amy Tan. Also, because she has the same birthday as me.
In this research paper, I will take a analytical approach by analyzing the short stories "Mother Tongue" and "Two Kinds" by Amy Tan. I plan to use online resources, books and online databases. In "Mother Tongue", Tan explains her mothers "broken English". In this story, Tan explores the use of language and articulates on how language is important to identity. In "Two Kinds", the strong bond of mother-daughter relationships is the theme again. This story is a heart warming story about a Chinese American Girl who is in a constant struggle with her mother over her identity. The struggle begins when the family moves to America after losing everything in China.
In my research paper, I aim to discover all the hidden devices and tactics in Amy Tan's stories so that I can understand and grasp Amy Tan's writing style.

My Topic is research on the Rise of Veganism in America. I picked this topic because I find it very interesting that even though America is known for its fattening, processed food, there is an opposite culture that is on the other end of the spectrum of food. People actually find it appealing to eat completely "raw". Eating raw means that in order to eat something, it must be vegetarian and organic. I wanted to try and figure out why people eat so drastically "healthy". It is a lifestyle that many committed vegans find rewarding and health beneficial, but could such a restrictive diet be worth it? Has America's obsession with fast food driven some to the extreme opposite? I plan on answering these questions by targeting the main reasons people go vegan. I also plan on researching the health benefits that vegans experience. I will determine if eating raw is scientifically backed up, or if those who eat the diet base their decision on an entirely theoretical ideology. From a personal stand point, I do not believe this diet to be necessary. Although it is better than eating at fast food restaurants and junk food, it seems so restrictive and complicated. I want to either disprove the idea that “eating raw” is beneficial, or find some facts to back it up. I anticipate finding most of my information from articles and websites on line, however there are many magazines and reading material on the subject. If possible, I would like to talk with a vegan and ask him or her questions about why they chose the lifestyle, and how it has affected their lives.

I have chosen to write about genetically modified organisms, or more specifically, genetically modified plants. I plan to write about their effects on society with the Green Revolution and the Second Green Revolution and more specifically the effects they have on the environment. I might also talk about utilizing organisms to naturally create “synthetic” compounds. I choose this topic because I find the topic extremely fascinating. I have a great love for biology, and I will very likely pursue that love in college. I had a vague idea of genetically modified organisms in the past, and that fascination was only amplified by taking AP Biology in my junior year. It just blows my mind how all of this tech was merely discovered within the past twenty years. This technology is only slightly older than I am! I sincerely hope that I can immerse myself into this topic in this future or something similar. I also have a great love of the environment. However, it is not the nature is pretty and makes me calm love. I find the infinite diversity and infinite combinations of nature fascinating, and it is something to be put under a microscope and studied in detail. That being said, I have been to several National Parks and nature preserves around the world and I wish to help preserve them for the future of humanity. Even the analyst can appreciate the beauty of nature. The project will probably end up being an analytical or persuasive paper. However, due to the nature of the paper it will probably end up as a hybrid of both. Thanks to the controversial nature of genetically modified organisms, especially crops, there is simply a deluge of data out in the world. I will most likely pursue book and internet/database based sources, although I did come across an interesting magazine article relating to the subject recently.

For my research paper I have chosen to write about the effects social media has had on children today. This topic will be a good fit for me because when I go into college I'm hoping to major in communication studies. I really want to find out how much of an impact the media has on people and more specifically how much it's impacted today's children. I think I'll be able to connect well with my topic because I have had personal experience with it myself. I know social media has definitely affected my life in a major way. I also have three little sisters and each day I witness how social media has changed their own lives too! It's clear that my generation is growing up In a much different world and I believe that social media is a major reason why. The way I communicate with the people is a lot different from the way my parents communicated with people when they were younger. Through my research I'm hoping to find out why social media has changed the way children today socialize. For my paper I intend to take an analytical approach. I want to analyze the effects social media has had on children. I want to find out how it's changed the way they interact, the way they speak, and the way it's altered their thoughts. I think I'll find most of my information through articles online and in magazines. I'll also try to look for any books published on the topic. I'm excited to find out as much information as I can on the topic!

For my research paper, I have chosen to go in the “future course of study” direction. I would like to major in psychology in college. Since psychology is such a broad subject, I decided to focus on the subarea of cognitive psychology. More specifically, in relation to cognitive psychology, my research paper will discuss the topic of dreams. I chose this topic because the idea of dreaming has always fascinated me. Dreaming is a universal phenomenon that every person has experienced. Still, there is no definite answer to the universal question that every person has asked at one point in his/her life: Why do we dream? Studies have been carried out, research has been done, and experiments have been performed all to answer this perplexingly simple question. To this day, the answer still remains uncertain.
Generally, there are two sides to this controversy. One side believes that humans need to dream for particular reasons while the other side believes that dreams are meaningless and have no true function in our lives. As for me, I agree with the first side. I feel very strongly that dreams do have meaning and that they are necessary for us to function normally. Because of this, my research paper will be both argumentative and persuasive. I will argue against the opinion that dreams are useless and persuade my reader to take my side in the debate. In order to do this, I will focus on and discuss three different cognitive psychological theories that support my stance as to why humans dream. In other words, these theories will be the subtopics of my paper. Some theories that I may use in my paper include: the psychoanalytic theory, the information-processing theory, the threat stimulation theory of dreaming, or the theory that states that we dream in order to cope with the stresses of life. I feel that I will be able to gather a lot of information on these theories mostly from books on psychology and credible psychology oriented websites. When I write papers for school, the topic of my papers are always typically chosen for me. I love that I am actually able to make the choice for myself this time. I am excited to write this research paper because I know that I will be writing about something that is actually important to me.

Like most teenagers, I use social media. I enjoy the freedom to be able to voice my opinion; express my thoughts and feelings; or share inspiring stories, creative ideas or fun pictures with my peers. However, I’ve experienced firsthand the negative effects social media can have, cyber bullying. I believe that along with the freedom to be able to type whatever you want comes a responsibility to be considerate and respectful of others. Untruthful posts and hurtful gossip can damage someone’s reputation with one click. Having been on the receiving end of untruthful posts has made me more sensitive to the effects of cyber bullying. This makes the topic of discussion very interesting for me. I would like to learn a lot more about the psychological side of it. Also, I would like to learn more about how we can change people to look to the positive side when posting things on the internet. As long as there’s social media, there will be people who are insensitive to others’ feelings. By spreading only positive images and messages, I can only try to lead by example. I feel that this is an important topic for me to discuss, to not only educate myself but others too. I feel that this will be a good research paper topic because I have my own personal intake mixed with facts and statements. Cyber bullying is a big issue in America today with both teens and adults. The more that social media continues to grow, the more we have to be aware of hurtful problem like cyber bullying.

For the topic of my research paper I have chosen The need and the importance of forensic nursing. I have picked this topic because, during career day last year two forensic nurses came to speak at St.Marks. I found it extremely interesting that their job incorporates the field of law, as well as the field of medicine. This is perfect for me because, I haven't been able to decide if I want to be a lawyer or a doctor and now I have the option to kinda be both of them. I also found it very inspiring that their job helps people just not within the walls of the hospital but the community as well.
When I go to write my paper it will probably be analytical, just because I find this to be easier for this type of topic. My subtopics may include why forensic nursing is so important, how they get involved in the court room, what being a forensic nurse means etc. I want to emphasize the important of forensic nursing in my paper, so many of my subtopics will include focus points on their job requirements. My resources for this paper will probably include a lot of websites, because I feel that medical websites such as websites run by hospitals or the nurses association will be extremely helpful or medical magazines. Of course there will be some books, but a lot of books on medical topics are too broad and don't give enough facts, in my personal opinion. Hopefully after I am done writing my research paper I will know so much more about what these women/men do and if I want to travel down that path way myself.

I chose to write my research paper on the diminishing whale populations in our world’s oceans over the past couple of years. I decided on this topic because I love marine mammals and would like to work with them when I get older. The endangerment of whales is happening because of the rising global temperature and the subsequent warming of the oceans. Due to the rising water temperatures, whales and other ocean creatures are forced to adapt, and animals that are as big as whales do not adapt as easily as other, smaller creatures might. Everyone knows that whales were almost hunted into extinction many years ago because their blubber sold for a lot of money. However, there are still a couple of whales that are on the endangered species list. For example, blue whales, fin whales, north Atlantic right whales, sei whales, and more. There are many reasons that these whales are on this list and that is what I would like to discuss in my paper. Most of these threats come directly from humans and I want to raise awareness of some of the things we do that are so harmful to other animals. There have been certain bans on some harmful human actions and some species of whales are protected by the law, so that some species are stable or slowly increasing. But for these bans and laws to be put in place, the populations had to be severely diminished first. I intend to get a lot of material from environmental or wildlife-based websites and articles. This is something that I have a passion for and intend to pursue in my post-college career.

In the summer of 1975, the world was introduced to their newest fear: the rouge shark. One film opened the eyes of the public to these “monsters” and created mass panic along the world’s beaches. Almost forty years later, science is now looking to fix this relationship between humanity and the creatures that dwell among them on hot July days by minimizing the horrifying interactions that unfortunately occur each year. Like many wild animal attacks, the killers often mistake their victims for their natural prey and don’t mean to target humans as Hollywood would otherwise suggest. Nonetheless, marine biologists are now looking to limit this problem by experimenting with new devices and fabrics that seem to deter these fish. Shark deterrent objects and devices have now become the hot question for that field of study. Universities, aquariums, research labs, and governments all are searching for answers. Many of the world’s leading marine biologists have joined this movement and have gathered interesting results. Magnets and electric currents have proven to keep sharks cautious when approaching their target, but not for long. Likewise, simply painting a black wetsuit with white stripes-imitating the pilot fish that often act as shark’s side-kick- has managed to get positive results. Overall, sharks are just creatures that rely on their senses- all six of them. Science has just recently been able to exploit some of their pit falls to help benefit man-kind.
The topic is why I wish to major in Marine Biology. I will analyze some of the research that has been conducted worldwide, and also highlight some of the questions that still remain unanswered. Like I said before, the topic is big in marine biology and I have found a lot of the information on websites, speeches, and books. I also plan to observe work performed in the databases of some of the best research labs in the world. Ultimately, this paper will look to summarize much of what has been discovered about the concepts of shark deterrents within the last few years.

Love is a beautiful concept. It helps people realize the significance of life and see how their is good in the world. It can be shown in a multitude of ways, and through my research paper I am going to explore the different themes of love throughout three literary works.
I will approach this paper using the compare and contrast method.
The first and most obvious choice for examining the theme of love will be Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. In this story love is young, naive, and overpowering. The star crossed lovers fall head over heels for each other in an instant. This story will be good to display the side of love that can bring about violence. Love is not always happiness and exhilaration, but also can be chaos and turmoil.
The second story that will show how love can be expressed is a book called Where the Red Fern Grows. This book portrays the importance of companionship and how hard someone will work to take care of others. In this case it is a boy and his two dogs, Old Dan and Little Ann. The dogs bring out the best in Billy and he in return loves his dogs more than anything in the world.
Lastly the song “In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel, will be analyzed. This song is heartwarming and has beautiful lyrics. It emcompasses the beauty of love and how it can draw someone to another person.
I will mainly approach this paper by using compare and contrast. I chose to do this because I feel like I would really enjoy writing a paper that’s kind of different from the ones I have written in the past.

Immediately when receiving the handout which detailed what we could write our research papers on, my attention latched onto the first topic on the list. I have always been fascinated by World War II. I love reading books and watching movies on the subject, whether nonfiction or historical fiction. This weekend I watched the new movie Fury which details the gritty, violent journey of the crew of WWII tanker. The movie was outstanding and I left the theater speechless, although I will not say it is as amazing as Saving Private Ryan just yet. I became engrossed by Unbroken this summer, but after having learned a great deal about the Pacific front in the book, I have decided to focus my research paper on the European theater. The topic I have decided on is the 1936 Olympics and how the Nazis were hiding evidence of Germany’s militarization, forbidden by the Treaty of Versailles, and their anti-Semitism. Currently, I believe that it would be really interesting to treat this paper as a compare-contrast essay. I will compare and contrast the spectators of the Olympics and the Olympians from other countries’ views of Germany with that which was actually occurring in Germany at the time. I will probably focus on Hitler’s rise to power during those last few years before the war. I will also focus on the Nazi Party’s use of propaganda on the German people, especially the role of Joseph Goebbels, head of Germany’s Ministry for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda. For the research, I plan to take advantage of the many books written about World War II. However, I will have to make sure that the books have information about the details leading up to the war, since that will be what I am focusing on. I plan on using internet resources to find information on the 1936 Olympics. I can also utilize direct quotes from Olympians such as Jesse Owens and Louis Zamperini. Research papers, although stressful, can be enlightening when you are actually interested about your topic. So, I am excited to encounter new revelations about the war and the major players in it.

For my research paper I have chosen why Americans should be allowed to own and purchase guns. Over the past few years gun laws have been made stricter and some people want guns taken away all together. People think that guns kill people when in truth people kill people. For this reason, people need to be able to protect themselves and their family. I am going to approach this research paper in an argumentative style considering gun laws have been argued on many different levels. Arguments over gun laws are being held all over the country , from average middle class citizens discussing gun laws with their neighbors to politicians arguing amongst each other over whether guns make our society more dangerous. There are many reasons why people should be able to own a gun. First, owning a gun allows you to protect yourself and your family. Protection is the number one reason why Americans own a gun and they deserve to be able to protect themselves and their family to the best of their capabilities. Next, the right to bear arms is our second amendment and it is our right as citizens of the United States to own a gun for whatever the reason may be. Last, owning a gun enables people to participate in America’s past times such as shooting and hunting. I am a very big hunter and it has run in my family for years. If someone were to take my guns away I would not only lose a hobby that is very important to me, but lose valuable time with my family and dad in doing something we all love. Owning a gun is very beneficial to any homeowner and taking guns away would deprive citizens of protecting those who they love the most.

For my research paper, my general topic was physical therapy. Knowing that I had to narrow my topic down, I started thinking about most of the common injuries that I’ve been seeing around at school. ACL tears and concussions are the two major things I see everyday. Sports have always been a major part in everyone’s life growing up but they have become increasingly competitive over the years. For my paper, I want to see if there is a link between growing up participating on a competitive travel sports team every weekend and now having the major injuries everyone is facing because they have worn their bodies out so much already. I would like to take an analytical approach on the topic to try to find the true problem. Being in physical therapy myself has made me grateful for all they have done to try to make me feel better. Wanting to possibly be in this occupation later on, I want to know if there is some way that I can contribute by decreasing the amount of injuries in young adults. I plan to look at different sports and the injuries related to them to see if there is a little thing that can be done growing up. One option might be not being so competitive and grueling at such a young age and mabe creating simple exercises in the future that can be done during the week to keep your body strong to avoid tears and breaks. This topic would really interest me because it is something I want to pursue in the future and be able to help people.

My topic I have chosen is America’s reliance on technology. I chose this topic because I want to better understand why we cling so much to cellphones, computer, TV and tablets, ever now than before. We are so far advanced in technology that in a few years from now there will be another “next best thing”. I want to explore technology’s growth throughout the years. The cell phone was made more than 10 years ago and I want to see why Americans became so interested in it. I also want to explore what we Americans would do now having our technology versus the 1950s when they didn’t even have computers. It will be interesting to see what kids our age in the 1950 played with instead of phones. I also want to discover what technology will be like in years from now and how it will affect us. The buck of my paper will be on the technology we use today explaining any psychology behind or dependence on technology. I also will explain progression of technology starting with the cell phone, since I was a huge invention. I will then explain the 1950s era versus our time now on what people did without phones. I will then finish my paper explaining where technology will go after this and what we can expect.. My paper will be an informative research paper but have a few parts that are comparative. I will do most of my research through web articles but, for looking up information from the 1950s, I will use books. I can also use current newspaper articles to see what our world has developing now in technology.

Everyone always craves a greasy cheeseburger with a side of fries, and thinks what better way to satisfy a craving then a quick drive through fast food place. Fast food places have quickly become part of a typical American’s diet. Society is always looking for a quick, inexpensive, and convenient meal; however, never realize how harmful these meals can be for our bodies. Fast food restaurants are a huge part of why a large portion of the U.S is overweight. Obesity has been a big health concern among Americans. Most of the time, Americans don’t realize what is in the food they are eating, and how even the healthier options on the menu can be misleading. People in society are continually living their busy lives at a high speed; therefore, fast food places have become a huge success. The success of these restaurants are causing the number of restaurant chains and different options to expand. My research on this topic will be about how Fast food has made a large population of Americans obese and why people continue to eat meals that are harmful to their bodies. Researching this topic will show me how bad fast food is for a person’s body and help me make better choices when I’m eating out. I chose this topic because I’m interested in learning about the different ingredients that are put into fast food that is causing people to have health problems in life. Research about my topic will come from online websites, magazines, and newspapers.

The subject of my research paper is the nursing shortage in the United States. I selected this topic as I plan to study nursing in college, so this shortage is of great concern and interest to me. This is a prominent issue and one which needs to be addressed for the health and welfare of patients. This topic is so important because the quality of patient care is deteriorating which could potentially affect everyone at some point in their lives. My paper will be mostly informational and analytical. I will largely draw information from papers, studies, and books posted on the internet, but I will also be looking to get first hand accounts and direct quotes from practicing nurses and experts on the subject.
I will present some of the contributing factors causing the current nursing shortage as well as strategies which may improve this crisis to increase the nursing workforce to better meet the patient demand. The first topic I plan to discuss is the fact that nursing school enrollment is not keeping up with the current and future demand for nurses. Currently, there is an insufficient number of nursing school facilities, programs, faculty, and class space at colleges and universities in the United States. Second, the current nursing workforce is nearing retirement age and the life expectancy of the population in the United States is getting longer each year thus requiring a greater number of nurses to care for the elderly. Lastly, I will discuss how the nursing shortage itself is causing nurses to leave the profession due to long hours, overwhelming stress, and poor working conditions.
In addition to analyzing the problems causing the nursing shortage, I will also discuss some potential solutions to reduce the nursing shortage. Some of these include enhancing working conditions and benefits and providing more educational opportunities on a national level.
Since I am looking to pursue a career in nursing I am excited to research this subject to learn more about the issues and concerns associated with my chosen career.

The research topic I chose is inspired by the course of study that I intend to pursue in college and my potential profession, which is neonatal nursing. My topic is about the genetic birth defect called Down Syndrome. The subtopics in my research paper will explain the statistics, symptoms, and causes of Down Syndrome and how to prevent it. This will start with the health of the mother before and during pregnancy. My plan of approach is a combination of analytical, argumentative, and persuasive styles. The rhetorical concept of logos will be exhibited in the analytical portion of the paper. This part will define what Down Syndrome is and explain its statistics, symptoms, and causes. The argumentative and persuasive sides of the paper, which are the rhetorical concepts of pathos, will open the reader’s hearts and minds to preventing this harmful defect. I plan to find material for my research paper in multiple books, medical journals, databases, and websites. I intend to use my child psychology book as one of my book sources. I also plan to find information on the websites for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Down Syndrome Society. I feel very strongly about my topic because I aim to one day work in the neonatal intensive-care unit, or NICU for short. This type of career may be too heart wrenching for some because it involves caring for ill newborns, some of which unfortunately die. However, I believe that if I can save the innocent life of at least one child, whether he or she may be premature or with Down Syndrome, this profession is completely worth the heart ache of those who do not make it.

For my research paper, I have chosen the topic of our perception of time. I chose this topic because I thought it was interesting how the span of time seems to change with what we are doing. I learned a little about it during Psychology class my junior year and I wanted to learn more about time perception and why, by focusing on what we are doing, it can actually make time seem to go slower. I will explain why this is throughout my essay by using a persuasive writing technique along with facts and references to psychologists who have studied the matter. My subtopics will be about how we perceive time, how our age affects our time perception, and what we can do to make time slow down or speed up. Our brains have the power when it comes to perceiving time. The way we see time is affected by our interest in the matter. I plan to find information on this topic through the internet, databases, and in the book, Time Warped. These all have lots of information about how age serves as a major factor to our perception of time, along with ways to make time go slower. I find it very interesting as to how time seems to dramatically speed up as we get older, and go so slow when we are young. In my paper, I plan to explain all of this, along with reasonable explanations and examples. By researching this topic, I hope it helps me to understand why time goes so slow at some times and so fast at other times.

My topic is how media and advertisements are taking over our lives and making us not think for ourselves. I chose this topic because I feel strongly about it. People today are too attached to their phones and social networks. They are so caught up in telling all of their followers what they are doing and playing mindless games that they are not actually living in the moment. I believe that some people probably would not be able to function properly without their phones or laptops. Media is quickly being integrated into everything we do. Students now carry iPads in school and do a lot of their schoolwork on them. All of this convinces me that people are not thinking for themselves. People are so easily convinced and persuaded by the individual ideas posted by strangers on the internet. If someone’s tweet gets a lot of favorites or retweets, people will assume it must be the right way of thinking and then follow it. All it takes is a celebrity to tell all of their fans to support a certain belief and then instantly thousands of people will support it. People need to think for themselves and make their own judgements. We are all imbedded with the power to create and imagine, we should not let that gift go to waste.
My paper will take a persuasive approach. My subtopics may be the media’s impact on adolescent minds, the effect advertisements have on our judgement, and the loss of independent minds due to social media. I intend to research mostly websites and maybe a couple databases.

Head injuries in soccer are one of the most leading concerns in sports right now. With players heading a ball basically everyday at least twice, this has to be a major concern. I always hear of these famous soccer players having head problems later in life and I want to learn more about the protection and dangers of doing it wrong and too often. I chose this topic because of the injuries, new rules and regulations in the game, and the worries across the globe about what these injuries can do. I am also doing this to learn more about the topic because I am a soccer player and again I constantly hear stories from not just soccer but football of these players being really hurt. Most influential are the concussions that high school players may receive. Many people think that football is the worst sport for injuries but is that really true? I am doing this topic to prove what head injuries can really do and what affect they can have on the team and individual. Many parents are concerned nowadays for their young child’s safety when they start playing soccer, but is restricting them of a fundamental skill of the game really going to help? Also, there is a certain technique to heading a ball and if the children do not learn this while they are young, they can hurt themselves even worse when they first do it in high school and on. Many of these questions need to be answered and that’s why I did this topic.

For my research paper topic, I have chosen to do an in-depth analysis of corruption within big sports leagues, specifically the NFL with regards to the recent Ray Rice case and the corresponding fallout. I’m looking to sift through all of the press statements and reports to find out who knew what about the incident in that elevator. There will be some argumentative content, mostly in the form of whether or not Roger Goodell should have resigned from his post as commissioner after the evidence was leaked, but it will be predominately analytical.
I will write my paper in a “chronological” style. By this, I mean that I will first write about what information initially surfaced in the Rice scandal, then follow through to when the video of the incident surfaced. My final paragraphs will focus on the questionable decisions Goodell has made as commissioner of the league, and the reaction from the media as to what his fate should be.
I will research this topic through a number of sources. I think I will use the internet for the majority of my sources. The “Outside the Lines” ESPN report that first shed light on the alleged cover up within the NFL will be used heavily, as well as other content from websites such as Bleacher Report and CNN. As for other potential sources, magazines such as Time and Sports Illustrated have written extensively about the topic and should have great insight. The New York Times magazine will also be heavily featured.

The research topic I chose to write about asks the question have social networks caused teens to become anti-social in the real world? I have chosen this topic because I originally wanted to write about society’s social media obsession, but had to narrow it down into this topic because its more specific. I find it interesting to research about the different opinions people have about social media with teens and not only hear the opinions of what my friends and I think about it. Social media is the primary focus of our world today and teens are the ones who are most exposed to this and it can become an obsession. The approach that I want to write this research paper on is a persuasive/ comparing one. I believe this approach could make a good paper with my topic because I want people who are reading my paper to understand the point I am trying to get across whether the social media causes teens to become anti-social. Also, I want to talk about in my paper the comparison between teens that use social media sites and apps and the teens that don’t or rarely use it. This will be very influential in that seeing the different characteristics and how it may or may not help the teenager. To find information on this topic I intend to use Internet sources, maybe magazines, and try and find some books that deal with social media. Some subtopics that I can use are what draws teenagers to use social media, what difference is between kids who use social media and who don’t, and also what problems these teens will have in the future when they can’t always rely on social media as their way out of being active in society.

My research paper topic is how racism affects our legal system. I chose this topic because I read an article about it in the newspaper. The way this affects our legal system is huge. No one can really be treated fairly in our legal system. I am interested in the way different races are treated in our society’s legal system. I am going to approach this paper analytically. I am interested in the statistics of our legal system. It will be easy to find this because most things are public record for people to read and see. One of my subtopics would be how cops are racists in their arrests. Another would be how judges and juries are racist in their convictions. Finally, the third subtopic would be how racism affects our neighborhoods and communities and their futures. I intend to research mostly on the internet or web articles. I may do a few newspaper articles, but not many.

The human race survives through their use of communication. Communication allows one to express their feelings and concerns to others. It is a very powerful tool in not only our only survival but our ability to thrive as a race. The way we communicate has an unbelievable impact, either negative or positive, on any given situation. An example would be the Civil War. This war that put brothers against brothers could have been avoided if we learned to express ourselves in a manner that didn’t include guns or violence. If we were to successfully communicate with other human beings and learn to accept the differences between us many lives may have been spared.
In today’s world we are still trying to learn to accept the things that make each human an individual. A place where you can be anyone you wish to be is on the internet. The internet opens endless doors to endless possibilities. However, to quote Spiderman, “With great power, comes great responsibility”. This responsibility would be the one of still being true to who you are. How you interact with a stranger on the internet should be much different then how you interact with them face to face. In this day and age we have become obsessed with documenting every moment on the internet and every social media. The generation of today is much more focused and concerned with how they are perceived online than how they appear in real life. The absurd need to get a certain number of likes on a picture, retweets on a tweet, or followers is causing our generation to lose sight of how to interact with actual humans and not a little bright screen. With this paper I will explore the emotion that is lost through a text compared to an actual conversation, the social techniques expected in society that are not needed on social media, and the difference between connecting with someone through the works of the internet compared to meeting in a real-life scenario.

For my research topic, I am choosing to write about the impact of parents' marital status on child poverty. This topic proved very interesting to me because as the poverty rate in America is still fairly high, I wanted to learn about the background of where these people came from, especially kids, and how they got to this point in their lives. What were the factors that caused this? Could they have changed their fate? Why is this happening to more and more people? I came across stunning statistics of the number of children experiencing poverty right now in America alone. It is a terrible thing to read, especially about children who are so young, naïve, and helpless. I hope to discover the reason why the number of children experiencing poverty is increasing and if it is related to the marital status of their parents. I plan to use an analytical and also comparative approach. I will use statistics as well as comparisons of specific stories to back up my thesis. I hope to prove that having married parents helps reduce the risk of a child experiencing poverty. My three subtopics will include financial stability, well-being, and education. I will show that these three factors relating to child poverty all have better and more positive results with children who have married parents. Even though there are many other factors that contribute to poverty, I think these three are most important in my specific topic. I plan to find most of my research in online articles, some books, magazines, and maybe some videos. Overall, I think my topic is very interesting and relevant to our society today and will teach me a lot on a subject I know little about.

The subject of my research paper will be immigration. I have chosen this topic because it has been a reoccurring issue, especially in the last few years. Illegal immigration into the United States is massive in scale. More than 10 million undocumented aliens currently reside in the U.S., and that population is growing by 700,000 per year. On one hand, the presence of so many aliens is a powerful testament to the attractiveness of America. On the other hand, it is a sign of how dangerously open our borders are. I might take a compare-contrast approach to the paper by explaining how the democrats and republicans plan to handle this problem. Typical illegal aliens come to America primarily for better jobs and in the process add value to the U.S. economy. However, they also take away value by weakening the legal and national security environment. When three out of every 100 people in America are undocumented there is a profound security problem. Even though they pose no direct security threat, the presence of millions of undocumented migrants distorts the law, distracts resources, and effectively creates a cover for terrorists and criminals. Today, Republicans believe that they cannot trust Obama, who has deported more illegal immigrants than any other president, to enforce immigration law. More recently a surge of Central American child migrants into Texas has boosted the arguments of those who insist America's border must be made "secure" before any form of legalisation can be considered. I plan on finding information from web sites and articles.

As a competitive person, I find it hard to end a game with a tie. Life is a winning and losing game. Sometimes one guy is better than the next guy, and as a world, we need to learn to accept that. More specifically, as a country we need to realize that it is okay for some to be better than others. I understand how some may think that it is hurting other’s feelings to not give all equal treatment, however, is this truly a good thing? Some may think yes, however, the answer is simply no. I chose to write my research paper on forced equality in America, and how it is having a negative impact on society.

I find this to be a huge issue in America, although there are other issues that are more important, this issue is important and will cause other issues to occur in the future. This topic seems to get blown off as being not important. I will stress this important issue by having three main subtopics: how forced equality breeds inequality, distracts us from what’s truly important, and how it makes us less competitive in a world which needs competitiveness.

My research paper will be argumentative, as I show why forced equality is not having a positive impact on America, arguing against those who think forced equality is having a positive impact. I will do most of my research online and in databases, but I will find examples of forced inequality in magazines and newspapers.

For my research paper I have chosen to write about what career I plan to pursue in the future. When looking through the options, Physician Assistant really stuck out to me. I've always been interested in medicine and have a desire to help others. But really with the way the health care industry is changing, the growth rate of PA's is higher than the average of most jobs in our country. With the ever changing system if health care reform, PA's will be some a necessary part of the health care field. In my paper I plan to describe the changes in our nations health care system up until the present time. The main focus will be how PA's fit into the mix, and what their duties will be as we go into the future or 'unknown' depths of healthcare reform. My paper will have elements of compare and contrast ( PA's vs. MD's) and elements of analysis (of current health care systems). In terms of breaking it down I intend to focus on, what a PA is and what their job description entails, what our country's past/ current healthcare system is and how it is run, health care reform, what the future of healthcare looks like, how will PA's be more widely utilized in the future. I plan to use all different sources to conduct my research. Any books that pertain to healthcare, insurance policies, how a hospital is run, or past healthcare reform. Any medical journals outlining the new policies and ideas for medical care in the future will also be utilized. Medical magazines will also have an abundance of information that I can tie into my paper. Lastly, government websites that outline new ideas on medical insurance and healthcare will also be included.

I have chosen to title my research paper “The Demise of Home-Cooked Meals.” I think the title is transparent itself, as to the criteria I will include in this paper. It is accustomed that families are not as close as they used to be. The modern civilization has influenced current generations to lead a life of seclusion, internet and employment being the major key factors of this problem. Here are some accurate familiar instances: family members waste more time watching television than spending quality time together. Some prefer to communicate with family members via internet and social media, rather than visiting them personally. The advancements of the Web and television technologies have changed our lives astonishingly. Though, I do believe families can regain more union if they put in the effort and cooperativeness that it takes. Eating meals together, sharing humor and sympathy, and talking about how our days went can all help with bringing a family back into union. I would consider this “back-up info” for my research paper. I chose this topic because I found it so interesting and real. My family has even fallen into this dilemma. I will take the analytical approach and examine exactly why families don’t sit down and eat together, or why they don’t tend to do as often. I plan on going through the answers to these questions: what is this going to do for future generations? Is there a specific culprit? What can we practice to be more homogeneous? For finding research, I plan on straight up asking people and my family, why they don’t value dinners together anymore. Why don’t we actually put in any effort other than for special holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. I also plan on finding a good bit of research online and in magazines. I think this research topic will help me learn about the modern world and the current people inhabiting it.

I began researching the profession of Occupational Therapy beginning my junior year. As I became more familiar with the profession I considered going into the field of Occupational Therapy. It was not until I spent thirty hours this summer shadowing a local OT that I fell in love with the profession, and am now extremely confident in perusing a degree of Occupational Therapy. For my research paper I hope to clarify the role of an Occupational Therapist and the numerous different job options available. This general introduction to my research paper will be written analytically. I may include some comparisons and contrasts between the different roles. For example an Occupational Therapist working in the school system has a much different job than an Occupational Therapist working in geriatrics at a nursing home. The main focus of my research paper will be specifically directed toward the work of Occupational Therapy with autistic children. Occupational Therapy works to develop cognitive skills as well as improving physical movement. Specifically with autistic children this allows them to work on physical activities like writing, and dressing. They also help develop cognitive skills like interaction and socialization. The main section of my research paper will be about the autism spectrum and how Occupational Therapy is able to improve patients. This will be analytical including many facts. I will get most of my research from internet sources; however I may be able to find some good information on autism in books and data bases. I would like to include at the end possibly a few of my personal reasons for wanting to become an OT, but it depends on how my paper comes together. Personal statements may not be appropriate for a mainly analytical paper.

When I had to come up with a research topic I kept on thinking of abuse among pro athletes. After hearing about the recent story of the Sayreville football team and the hazing scandal my attention shifted to hazing in sports. I want to write my paper on hazing in sports because of its impact of today’s society and in today’s sports. I also want to write about hazing because I play sports and it is an interesting topic to me. The approach I would take to write my paper would be persuasive. I intend to investigate the answers to 5 question on the topic of hazing in sports.
1. What is hazing? I will investigate the definition and background information. Incidence of hazing in general and in sports? What acts are considered hazing? Is it acceptable or over looked in certain situations?
2. Who? Who are the perpetrators? What similar characteristics do people who haze have? What athletes participate in hazing rituals? Does hazing occur in both genders? Is there a sport that has higher incidence of hazing than others? Also, who are the victims? Who is responsible for supervising these athletes?
3. Where? Locations of hazing? Where does hazing take place? How predominant is it in middle, high school, college and pro sports?
4. When? When does hazing begin? What time of year or season does it most frequently occur?
5. Why? Reasons people haze. What makes athletes more prone to hazing?
I also want to research how hazing can be prevented or stopped. I intend to use books, magazines like Sports Illustrated, online and databases.

For as long as I can remember, I have been a huge animal lover. I have pictures of myself as an infant laying on dogs sound asleep. My love for animals has since flourished. I began to love all animals big and small and started looking at PETA’s website. PETA stands for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. I was shocked at the animal cruelty in our country from cosmetic testing to fashion. At first I wanted to do my research paper on animal cruelty in our factories but then I came across videos of animals in the circus. I was shocked at the inhumane treatment to the animal, especially the elephants. At the moment I intend to write a persuasive paper trying to educate people about the treatment of these animals in hopes that they will stop supporting the circus by discontinuing their attendance around the country. I will find a lot of my information online from PETA and other animal’s rights activists websites similar to PETA. I have already come across an abundance of information and videos regarding this topic. I may also look in magazines and newspapers for articles or firsthand experiences of cruelty in the circus. I want to pin point which companies are the worst and which, if any, are trying to make improvements. I also want my paper to be somewhat analytical concerning the facts and data of the cruelty. I want to explain how these animals really are smart and have feelings and explain how this cruel treatment really does affect them.

I plan to write my research paper on “The Effect of Physical Therapy on Children With Disabilities.” Working so closely with Special Olympics my entire life, I have seen the benefits that physical therapy can bring to people with mental and physical disabilities. With the help of physical therapy, I’ve watched numerous children thrive and grow up to be true athletes. It’s incredible to watch these children grow, and I want to be the reason that kids can compete in sports and activities even if they are born with a disability. I plan to use mostly internet sources, as this topic may be hard to find older research on. Physical therapy has obviously been around for a long time, but I feel that it has just recently become very popular as a potential career and has helped a lot of different kinds of people. I could write about how it helps high school athletes, pro athletes, elderly people, the list goes on and on. However, the two career paths I had finally narrowed it down to were either physical therapy or special education because I have experience with both. This has led me to want to be a physical therapist that helps children who have been born with some type of disability. I’d like to have my subtopics be: what physical therapy is, how it can help children with disabilities have a normal life, and how it can help children with disabilities go further and become athletes. While most people know what physical therapy is, I’d like to have a paragraph that goes into some detail about exactly what physical therapy is and what it entails. Next I’d like to discuss how a child can go from having a disability to having a normal life and being able to do day-to-day tasks. Lastly, I’d like to talk about how a child with a disability can take a normal life one step further and become a real athlete. Hopefully this will be an interesting and inspiring topic!

I plan to go into the field of business in college, more specifically accounting. So when we went over this assignment in class, the book about the woman trying to make a living on minimum wage immediately sparked my interest. Since just making a living on minimum wage is too broad a topic, I picked the topic “how does health care affect people who live on minimum wage?” Since people of the United States have to pay for health care out of their income, it immediately hurts those who are on a tight budget. Paying for health care is only one factor that people on minimum wage have to hinder their lifestyle, but it is a huge topic since the affordable health care act went in to effect almost a year ago. I plan to compare the United States’ health care system compared to another country's health care system (most likely Canada) in ways of how it is presented to the public and how to gain coverage. I will also be focusing on the affordable health care act and criticize some points that are not beneficial to people who are living on minimum wage. In the last subtopic, I will analyze the amount of income received by a single person living on minimum wage and a family of four living on minimum wage, before taxes. Then subtract any taxes and necessities. I will then present the amount of savings after the fact compared to the original total and the poverty line. Finally, I will discuss how the most common health care plans affect the amount of savings that one would have and possible solutions to improve the health care system (other than the affordable health care act) in concern to people living on minimum wage.

The topic that I chose to use for my research paper is, “Are concussions a serious problem for the sport of football”. I’d like to take the analytical approach so that I can use all the research and data collected to back up my statements. It has been a serious issue in recent years from the middle school level, all the way up to the NFL. It had peaked my interest four years ago when I first started playing football. It was the first football game of my life, freshman year. One of our players got demolished after catching the ball and tried to get up. Unfortunately for him, he didn’t know which way was up or which way was down and fell over. He had to be helped off the field and was diagnosed with a concussion. A few plays later, another one of our players gets hit. He tries to get up but he too falls over. Merely three minutes had gone by and two of our players were injured with concussions. After the game I thought, “What did I get myself into?” So I became very intrigued in the matter. Any news that was in the paper I was reading and any stories that came up on TV I was listening to. I really became interested when the NFL had their big scandal of sweeping the matter of concussions under the rug. Many players spoke out about their stories and it was a huge deal. My subtopics might be: the effects of concussions in young players, effects on college/nfl players, and what is being done to prevent future concussions. I intend on doing most of my research online but I’m sure I could find more information in magazines or even documentaries.

The topic that I chose to do for my research paper was video game’s violence effect on children. This topic is something is very relative to today’s society. This is also something that is relevant to most high schoolers as they are able to purchase these kinds of games. This takes up part on many children’s lives in their daily lives. Video games have been growing throughout the years after they were first introduced. To this day new consoles for video games are being made with new technology. Each time showing off better features. Now the violent video games aren’t restricted to consoles, people can download their games onto their phones. The industry of video games is something that may not end. This is a form of entertainment to some and the joy of others, although the games played may vary from person to person.
I believe that I will take an analytical approach. Right now I have thought about the subtopics to be the different type of violent content portrayed in different games as they are not all the same. I also thought about analyzing any behavioral changes that may appear in children after they begin to play, I would like to try to make a comparison with the hours of play to their behavior or success in school at the time. Lastly, I will look at any experiments, as well as the the data or conclusion, in regards to my topic. The resources that I think will be the most efficient will be the internet as it readily available to me. I would like to try to use a couple of newspaper reports as well as a book.

The subject of my research paper is the influence of violent media on children. I chose this topic because this issue is so prominent in our world today and is affecting millions of kids around the world. Violence in the media is omnipresent in our society and needs to be addressed as to prevent kids from growing into violent adults. I am excited to begin learning about this topic because it is a real world problem. I am very interested in and will be learning about the human thought process and psychology in nursing courses so this ties directly into my future as well. I wanted to research this topic in order to learn about the immediate and long term psychological effects this has on children and also the studies that have been done. My approach will be analytical and informative based on research and studies that have been done on this topic. I will mainly use the internet, books, and pull information from past experiments that centered on this issue.

My first subtopic will be the immediate and long term psychological influences of violent television, video games and music lyrics causing kids to become aggressive and desensitized to violence. My second subtopic will be focused on the experiments that have been done over the years, the statistics from them, and correlation between violent media and aggression. My last subtopic will discuss the possible strategies, solutions and methods to help reduce adolescent exposure to violent media. For example, parental controls on television, warnings on video games, tighter restrictions on movie goers, and warnings for explicit lyrics on cd’s.

Neonatal care is one of the most important units of the medical field. Every aspect of health care is vital, but without neonatal care many children that are born prematurely or with sickness would die soon after birth. For my research paper I decided to research neonatal care. More specifically, I want to research the technology in neonatal care that allows the nurses and doctors to save as many lives as they do. I have chosen this topic because I want to be a neonatal nurse in the future. I have always loved babies and they have always loved me right back. I have seen firsthand the impact that neonatal nurses and doctors have on children because my friend’s adoptive son was born prematurely and addicted to drugs. Those health professionals saved his life with the technology they have at hand. For my research paper, I plan on taking an analytical approach. Some subtopics that I will analyze may include: the original technology used when neonatal care was first developed, the new technology that is needed in the NICU today, and the benefits that technology gives to the helpless babies. I intend to do research on the Internet, magazines, books, and possibly journals. Finding some information on the original technology may be harder to find than the technology of today, but finding the information will help make my paper stronger. Neonatal care is still a relatively new field in health that is constantly developing. The older the population lives, the older they try to have kids. This causes the risk of problems with the child to increase dramatically making nurses and doctors in the neonatal field almost necessity. Without them, many children would die from something that could be helped if caught early and treated with the right instruments.

All around the world, people of every race and country share a common love of packing up the kids and taking a trip to the local zoo. And while in most regions this is just a fun and inexpensive way to spend the day, in others it's a public support of exploitation, abuse, and neglect. Zoo animal cruelty has become a global epidemic and that is why I feel it would make a interesting research paper topic. Not only would I like to educate myself more on the matter, but in writing about such an important issue I hope to raise awareness on something that has gone unnoticed for far too long. In the process of research I will most likely be using web resources and newspaper articles since books on zoo animals aren't very likely to share injustices toward them. I will also take a factual, analytical approach on my thesis to allow readers to draw their own conclusions.

My research topic is about the ethics and controversies of concentration camps. I decided on this topic because I was extremely interested and somewhat disturbed by the treatment of POWs described in the novel “Unbroken” by Laura Hillenbrand. Although the events in the novel took place years ago; reading a real life description is still horrifying. The details and sights of these events bring up a lot of questions and thoughts about these heinous acts and treatments. So I thought going over the arguments and discussions would be a good way to learn more about this dark spot of war. Obviously not all concentration camps are like the ones in the novel; and they most likely did not have such cruel care takers. However; I feel like the other cases like the ones in “Unbroken” have been discussed in great detail. So I decided to write my research paper on this topic because the novel had such a large impression on me. I love to read many war novels, but this novel had me very interested in this topic. I would like to see how these men and women, who were treated so poorly and inhumanely, were represented when these sufferings these people were dealt with were discussed and resolved. This is a very important issue and deals directly with the ethics of the treatment of the human person and the resolution of these issues. So I believe it will be very interesting and important if I could learn about the reactions and actions to these events.

I decided to write my research paper on what classes should be taught in school because I want to be a teacher when I am older. Because I want to be in the teaching profession, everything about education interests me. I love to hear about the new topics and news on teachers and education of today's world. As I tell people I want to be a teacher when I am older, they always tell me that's a great thing to peruse, to give back to the world, but I also get people talking to me about what I think should be taught in the classroom. Many people believe that some subjects should not be taught in schools. For example, people may think history should not be taught in school because it happened so many years ago, so why do kids need to know about all of those events now? Maybe if schools took out a history class, music class, or art class, their students could be taught the really important lessons of life that deal with money, taxes, bills, etc. The best way to learn about these topics is in school. Why take classes in school when they will have no meaning to a students life when they are an adult? Growing up and going through school I was never taught how to deal with taxes and money and all that "stuff" that adults have to deal with and I wish I knew how to. Of course a student can alwys go to their parents for guidance but I believe it would be easier if this was taught in schools.

The topic that I have chosen to write my research paper on is about obesity in America and how it relates with high fructose corn-syrup. I chose to write my paper on this topic not only became it was interesting but also because it relates with my life. In my house we eat a lot of organic food from Trader Joes. This is because my father says that high fructose corn-syrup leads to many sicknesses and obesity. I also chose this topic because the obesity rate is rising in America year by year and the obesity problem is also killing many Americans yearly. The approach if this paper will be a mixture of an analytical approach and a persuasive approach. In my subtopics I will give information on both of the topics. For example I will talk about how high fructose corn syrup is bad for you, where it's made and, how it relates to obesity. While I also talk about the spikes in obesity in America and why they are occurring. I will also talk about the side effects of being obese. In the end I will talk about different alternatives to reduce the amount of high fructose corn-syrup you consume and how we as a nation can reduce the obesity rate and how if you are obese yourself can reduce your body weight. My research will come form a variety of different sources. For example books, the Internet, movies, and magazines this is because the obesity problem is a big topic in America.

The topic I intend to write my research paper on is the inflated cost of health care in America. I have chosen this topic because I feel that it is a pressing issue in modern America. Also this topic applies very well to the overall theme of our class this semester, it being “Modern American Themes”. In my term paper I will analyze at the health care system, and the reasons as to why the price for these services is so inflated compared to other nations around the world. I will look into the individual programs from around the world and the various laws put into place by the governments that regulate health care. Some of the possible subtopics I may use are the recent health care reform, the numerous and diverse administrations not only in the United States but in foreign countries as well. I would also like to look into the laws that apply to cost and the price tag on the diagnosis, treatment, disease prevention, illness, injury, and other physical and mental impairments. As well as the countless positions inside and outside of the health care programs and administrations that contribute to the cost of health care services. This topic will have many places to find good information, so it should not be too challenging to research. I will look for information in almost any form, such as books, magazine or newspaper articles, websites, data bases and documentaries or educational films and shows.

When first selecting my research topic of nursing, I realized that that was way to broad of a subject. I wanted to write it on field of nursing, and I began thinking of what I am passionate about. One area I am of nursing that I am interested in cancer. Many may think that being on a cancer patient floor to be depressing, but I feel the opposite. My uncle recently passed away from cancer, so I was able to see first hand the compassion of the doctors and nursing staff. Yes, they see people pass away, but they are also surrounded by a lot of loving families and also get to view such resilient humans and their success. I would like to discuss cancer treatments, the power of positive thinking, and genetic influences. I would like my research paper to be informative, using scientific facts, and I would also like to analyze different methods positive thinking and support that involve support groups as well as turning to different religious communities. This topic interests me a lot because of my personal experiences as well as my interest in pursuing a career in this specific field of nursing.

The topic that I have decided to research is how private schools and public schools create accidental segregation of children. The reason I chose this topic is because I was reading an article and I saw the title say “ Department of Education Projects 2014 Public Schools Become Majority-Minority”. This interested me so I read the article and thought it could be a good research paper topic. In this paper I plan to use the compare and contrast style because the topic has to do with private schools and public schools and it would only make sense to compare them. I am planning on having two introductions, one on the history of segregation. Another introduction paragraph connecting the topic with the history of segregation. Then I will talk about how private schools cost money to get into and how public schools are free to enter. In that paragraph I will talk about how much the different racial groups make on average different wages. Then another topic could be the percent on Caucasian, African American , and Hispanic in both private and public schools. Then another topic could be the percent of people that have computers in public schools versus private schools. Then I am going to explain this and how it would effect how the child did in school if they did not have a computer and were in a private school. In this topic I would talk about how it is assumed that every person in private schools have a computer, but in a public school, it is not assumed. Then I am going to interview a public school teacher and talk about what they say.

One step in making a great film, book or show is the overwhelming feeling that there is no hope. Glum, depressing way of looking at things? Maybe. Or maybe it makes for an amazing comeback and worth while climax. An essential part of this process is the main character’s ability to persevere hardship. In Black hawk down, the perseverance is obvious in a war torn part of Mogadishu with bullets and explosions in your face the hold time. And in Unbroken, Louie has to undergo terrible torture camps and starvation in addition to surviving at sea with sharks. Finally, in the Arrow, Oliver Queen is stranded on an island where he is tortured, forced to kill and starved. Each work represents how they must persevere in their own way and I hope to bring that to light. For as long as I can remember I have loved games and movies that show one character doing unspeakable acts of courage and valor. Whether it is Master Chief (Halo) taking on the Covenant or James Bond stopping a nuclear launch, it has always interested me and it always will.
I plan to focus my points on a few certain subtopics including the scenario, conflict or enemies, and the victory or solution. Through this method I can describe how the characters arrive in their situations, how they persevere and how they succeed. I will use each example as my source and also aim to find directors commentary or story writer’s comments and ideas on the work.

I've always wondered if and how beneficial a stay at home mom or dad is for a child. Growing up, my mom was always there for me at home everyday. I was rarely at a day care or with babysitters because my mom's job was to look after me and my siblings. Nowadays you see a lot of busy fathers and mothers that their only option is to drop their kids off at day cares or leave them with a nanny as soon as the baby's just a few weeks old. I would like to research and compare and contrast the children who've grown up with at least one of their parents always there for them at home and the children who grow up with busy parents who barely have the time to raise them. I want to inquire into the long and short term effects this would have on a child throughout their life span, the advantages/disadvantages of being a stay at home parent versus a working parent, the differences in the bond they'll have with their children, and the development process of the child. Is the development process longer or shorter if a parent chooses to put their child in a day care versus staying at home with them? I intend to research this topic on the internet, interview stay at home parents and working parents, and I will look into books, magazines, databases, etc.

The topic that I'm focused on is the idea of all the POWs and American war veterans and the problems such as drug abuse and alcoholism that they have to face when done with the war. I'm not sure yet how I want to approach the topic, but I think I could talk about different types of programs for decommissioned soldiers to help them deal with their problems. I could first bring up their type of problem, say prescription pills to help ease the pain and then discuss what programs they made or could make. I could do this by finding a biography or an article telling of the war vets struggles in their daily lives after the war ended. Or instead find interviews that people have had with the war vets discussing their problems and how they will try to get over them. Then to find ways that may help these vets defeat their problems I could watch short news clips on new clinics and programs that are supposed to help treat these war vets.

My one problem that I need to overcome is the decision to focus on wars from a long time ago, or more modern wars like in Afghanistan, or Iraq. I feel like it would be easy to find info on war vets with alcoholism from Louie's time, but I don't think that there will be as much info on clinics and programs as they would have now. So I think I may stick to the most recent examples and rather just pull small bits of info and details from wars in the 20th century.

I decided to write my research paper on the different education systems throughout the world. I chose this topic because I’m considering studying education in college and I find it fascinating that education is enforced in various ways. I’m interested in learning about the different education systems and their impacts on students. One of my subtopics might be homeschooling/cyber schooling versus traditional schooling. Another one might be private schooling versus public schooling. I would also like to discuss diverse time schedules and homework load in my research paper because I would like to see the different effects that they have on students. I plan on taking mostly an analytical approach on this topic, but also an argumentative approach. I will explore the various education systems in our world and study some research that shows how they affect students in different ways. For example, I might examine how limiting homework load to a certain amount of time a night can positively benefit a student. I might also analyze differences in time schedules – how ending school early or starting school early can impact the lives of students. The argumentative side of my research paper might be if I debate how traditional schooling is better and more valuable than homeschooling or cyber schooling. I plan to find material for my research paper in multiple books, databases, and websites. Websites will most likely be my main source of information, but I also intend to use many books for my paper. I hope to find a greater interest in education that could possibly influence my decision of studying this subject in college.

During his terms as Commander and Chief, President Barack Obama has come under much criticism from both sides of the proverbial aisle. In particular, the president’s “Affordable Care Act” has received much scrutiny in its effectiveness as well as justice. Many argue it helps the undeserving at the expense of the hard-working. Both arguments hold weight, but which side proves more valid? It is my hope that through the exploration of this topic, I will be able to develop a well-educated opinion on the Affordable Care Act. I wish to investigate the many aspects of the bill, venturing through its legalities and legislative literature. I also hope to stumble upon varying views and opinions of recognized experts. The culmination of all this work and research will be a paper displaying the opinion I have formed, with evidence supporting the claim asserted while combatting the criticisms presented. Consequently, the paper produced would be argumentative.
The root of my interest for this topic stems from my love of politics. Ever since the 2008 election, I have been hooked to the world of politics. It is my hope to have a future in the political world. The start of this adventure begins with my education. I hope to minor in political science as an undergraduate student, and then continue on to earn a degree in law. From there, I hope to run for office and make my own imprint in the United States. It is for these reasons that I have chosen this subject of research.
In the hunt for information, I plan to tap into many political journals written on the subject, as well as transcripts of interviews of credited economists and legislators. Because this topic is so controversial and prominent, I do not expect a shortage of information. I also intend to use government sites to investigate the intentions the president and his team had in the signing of this bill.

As my all time favorite movie, The Truman Show really got me to focus the values that technology is forcing on humanity. I like everything in the movie-the theme, the idea, and all the insinuations. Truman Burbank, the protagonist, the one who is been watching by the whole world, is a truly honest man, a childish man, and a man who wants to take more risks in his life. He born in the show, grows up in the show, and literally lives in the show. He is reality, he is real. The whole idea behind the movie really teaches the world a lesson, a lesson about technology forcing on humanity, a lesson about acceptation without examination, a lesson about a cruel deception. It gives us the idea of modern communications make celebrity possible, and inhuman. It also makes a joke of the reality show that did not exist at that time yet. Think The Truman Show as an exaggeration reflects that Princess Diana lives under similar situation after engaged to Charles.
I will use analytical approach to introduce and analyze this movie. The subtopics for it might be #1 The introduction and analysis of the protagonist Truman Burbank (everyone is Truman/Truman as a hero, #2 The story of Princess Diana and criticism of the media,(similar situation compared to Truman/tragedy of being noticed by the whole world) #3 Technology and humanity(“we are able to” does not mean “we must”). I am going to research from online databases, journals, and reviews.

There have been countless revolutions throughout history. Some have been large. Some have been small. But they all, in their own way, have been important. Revolutions between a government and its people—such as the French Revolution depicted in Les Miserables¬—leave their mark in a very obvious way. They have a very real effect on a culture, and it’s no wonder they become the inspiration for many great works of art. Some revolutions, however, are not as obvious. Some revolutions happen only between a man and himself—such as with Sydney Carton in A Tale of Two Cities. While these inner-revolutions are far from boring, the artistic world seems particularly enamored with the idea of man versus society. There is something so enthralling about a single person taking on the whole of society, whether they succeed or not. Sometimes the revolutionary doesn’t even realize what it is they are doing—take, for instance, Eona in Allison Goodman’s Eon and Katniss in Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games. Sometimes they know exactly what they are going for and will do anything to get there, such as Emiya Kiritsugu in Gen Urobuchi’s Fate/Zero and Kamina in Kazuki Nakashima’s Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Sometimes the artist themselves create a small ripple of revolution through a single song, much like Megadeth did with their song “Peace Sells” and like Five Finger Death Punch did with “No One Gets Left Behind”. It is this type of revolution, this one against all viewpoint, which interests me most. For that reason, I chose to write my research on this concept.

For my research paper I have chosen to write about how the over pitching of young baseball players has led to the overwhelming increase in MLB arm surgery’s. I chose this topic because of my interest in baseball. Baseball is a passion of mine. I am playing in college and always want to learn more about the sport. More specifically this topic is an issue rising rapidly in the MLB. I also like this topic because it gives me a chance to help raise awareness for young coaches and players about the long term effect over pitching can have on a youngster. This is an issue that if properly publicized could save kids baseball careers. The approach I would like to take on my paper is a persuasive technique. I want to convince the reader about the danger and long term effect over pitching can have on young baseball players. There are many different types of over pitching which leads me to some of my sub topics. One is the amount of pitches you throw in a single outing. Another subtopic could be the amount of rest between outings a pitcher has. Depending on the amount of pitches someone throws can change the amount of rest they need. A third sub topic could be the velocity of the pitcher. Kids today are throwing harder than they ever have and it’s causing more stress on their arms. My fourth subtopic could be the amount of rest a pitcher has during the off-season. Lots of kids are playing all year round and never taking any time off from baseball and throwing. A fifth subtopic could be where the children are playing. Your arm can be more stressed in colder weather. I intend to get most of my research from websites and magazine articles.

I’ve chosen to write about music therapy with suicidal/depressed patients. Part of the reason why I chose this topic was because music is something so close to me and it’s something that has interested me for most of my life. Also suicide and depression is something that is increasing in this world today and I think these are things that are closer to people than they expect. I’m going to look at the science behind music therapy and how it works. I’ll especially focus on how music therapy will help someone who is depressed/suicidal. Another part that I want to talk about in my paper would be the difficulties in treating someone with music therapy. I plan to take an analytical approach to this topic in my paper. I would like to use mostly books for my sources as well as websites and possibly magazines. I already know of one book that I’m going to use as an example of music therapy, called Sing You Home by Jodi Picoult, which the main character, Zoe, is a music therapist. There is a portion of the book that talks about her work with certain patients. There is one patient I’m going to specifically focus on with this book because she is a suicidal teen. I want to find a bit more books about the reasoning behind why music therapy might work for some and not for others, also about how music therapy works. These types of things have always interested me because they seem so complex yet so simple.

I have been listening to my mom talk about Alzheimer’s disease since I was young. Although I lacked the ability to fully understand what Alzheimer’s was at that young age, I still asked questions that led me to develop a simple definition: Alzheimer’s means not remembering things. My interest in science and medicine has since developed, leading to a strong desire to research many aspects of Alzheimer’s disease. This disease is a possibility for many, including my parents. This possibility motivates me to research and learn about Alzheimer’s. My paper will be written from an analytical approach, as I examine and discuss the details of Alzheimer’s disease.

First, I will focus on the definition and diagnosis of Alzheimer’s. The Alzheimer’s Association declares that Alzheimer’s progresses through seven stages. I will discuss the details of each stage, focusing on symptoms that become more noticeable from stage to stage. Second, I will discuss the causes and risk factors of Alzheimer’s. Scientists claim that Alzheimer’s is caused by many factors, including age, family history, and genetics. Researchers have not discovered a single cause of Alzheimer’s, but the discovery of many causes helps to develop a better understanding of Alzheimer’s. Third, I will explore the treatment and prevention of Alzheimer’s. Alzheimer clinical trials have become very popular, as they are one of the primary ways researchers test new drugs and cures. I will discuss clinical trials while mainly focusing on the use of drugs to treat Alzheimer’s. I will briefly touch on preventative methods that can be practiced daily.

Various websites, books, journals, and magazines focus on the topic of Alzheimer’s. The Alzheimer’s Association’s website will be one of my main sources. My mom has medical journals and magazines that have articles focused on Alzheimer’s clinical trials and preventative drugs. I plan to use those along with recent articles from other medical journals and magazines. Alzheimer's deals with the brain, so I may look for web sites or articles which discuss the brain and memory loss.

For my research paper I have chosen the positive effects and uses of video games in our society. I have chosen this topic due to a close friend's recent spike in interest of online video games. He peaked my interest when he told me that these games get millions of spectators every day over the internet and this brings in great amounts of revenue from many sources. I then thought of how this money could be brought in from education websites to standard games. This idea brought up many questions that I would like to research. I am going to take an analytical and persuasive approach at this essay for I will look at both statistics of patterns in the video game world but also prove that they are beneficial to us in many ways. Through my subtopics I will talk about the positive effect video games bring to us physically and mentally, how video games are positively helping our economy through many different products, how video games are becoming more socially integrated. and how we are using video games for educational purposes to increase test scores and IQ. I will use online sources to find statistics and information on the effects of video games on the brain. I believe this will make up a large majority of my sources, but I will also include the use of books and encyclopedias to get general information on the topic. I will then try to find any magazine articles on or related to the topic.

In college I plan to major in the field of veterinarian medicine or veterinarian technician. The reason why I wanted to do this topic for my research paper is because it is my passion and what is the easiest topic I can write about and comes natural to me. My passion is to help animals and just be around them all the time. It’s not just because I like being around them more than people, rather it is because I love to help the animals in any way I can. I like to see how happy they make families when they are brought together. The main reason I started to think about writing my paper on this subject was from working at a veterinarian hospital myself. Watching and helping the people that own the animals by ensuring that the loving bond they share with their pets lasts forever is the best feeling. Seeing everything first hand and getting to learn the different fields, studies, and strategies I will need later in my career really helped me decide how I can help. In my research paper I would like to discuss vet-techs and what they do, advancing and contributing to the medical front, and raising the awareness of helping the animals that can be saved and don’t have a voice for themselves. These are important factors in the vet field to insure that we preserve and better society and its inhabitants.

War has always been seen as a horrible thing, yet many mediums of art portray it differently. Some portray war as a series of battles fought only for glory, fame, and honor. Other mediums show it as brutal and hellish, taking more lives than it should. For my paper, I’m going to compare and contrast various portrayals of war from three different mediums of art.

First, I’ll be looking at three movies: A Bridge Too Far, Lord of the Rings, and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: Gurren-hen. I’ll also be analyzing three songs: No One Gets Left Behind, by Five Finger Death Punch; Cliffs of Gallipoli, by Sabaton; and Critical Acclaim, by Avenged Sevenfold. Finally, I’ll be researching three video games: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Diablo III.

In order to get a variety of perspectives and portrayals of war, I’m going to analyze examples that are quite different from eachother. For example, I’ll be comparing the portrayal of war from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: Gurren-hen, a Japanese movie adaptation of a popular anime, to the portrayal of war from a A Bridge Too Far, a Western-made war movie. Not only will I compare and contrast examples from the same medium, but I will also be comparing each to every other example from each medium, allowing me to get a much broader look at the most common and uncommon portrayals of war.

The goal of my research paper is to find similarities in the portrayals from each example I’ll be researching, and also noting the differences from each genre.

I chose the topic on the intended course of study, a physician assistant in my case, for my research paper. I sought to delve into the major to learn more of what it’s about before I start fully committing to it. Internet addiction has been a rising problem especially among teenagers in these modern times. It would be interesting to read about all of the health problems that could potentially develop as a result or even health problems that could be present that are causing the issue. I plan to take an analytical approach on the topic of internet addictions that are linked with disorders. The most common disorder is the obvious Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD), but other disorders have been proven to correlate with internet addictions such as depression and anxiety. In my paper, I want to discuss some of the reasons why internet addiction is much more common than it used to be, explain what IAD, depression, and anxiety entail, and ultimately the role that a physician assistant can play in diagnosing and treating the problem. Physician assistants can specialize in an area of study. I’m not sure exactly what area I want to specialize in just yet; if I decide to specialize in psychiatry, then this would be involved in my curriculum at a much deeper angle, but I would just skim the surface of the matter in my paper. The internet will be a helpful resource in finding information, but newspaper articles and books on the medical field could also have information that would be beneficial as well.

Choosing to do the right thing is the never-ending moral struggle. It has been something that has been written about for almost as long as literature and writing has existed. For my research paper this year, I have decided to compare and contrast three different media with the idea of making the right moral choice. I chose this topic because doing the right thing has been ubiquitous in all forms of literature and storytelling from the beginning of time. My three types of media I will be using is “The Road Not Taken”, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Gladiator. “The Road Not Taken” is a famous poem by Robert Frost about a man taking a more difficult road. To Kill a Mockingbird is a famous novel by Harper Lee telling the story of a man standing up against a racist society. Gladiator is a movie telling the story of a man standing up against the tyrannical emperor. I am excited to write this essay because I am interested in seeing how different forms of media deal with this age old problem. I will be using a compare-contrast approach and using an analytical style to see how these different forms of media deal with this issue.

The topic that I chose for the research paper is Athletes taking advantage of their popularity. I chose this topic because I am involved in sports and find news relating sports interesting. In today’s society many athletes feel entitled to doing something just because they are “Celebrities”. Over the past year there has been various accounts on athletes getting in trouble for something that they should not be doing. Society looks up to these people as role models. When they commit a crime or do something wrong we begin to second guess ourselves as to why we look up to them. I believe athletes should be held more accountable for their actions because of their celebrity status.
My approach for this research paper is intended to be persuasive. My thesis will be that Star Athletes should be held responsible for their actions because they are viewed as role models to people of society. Since they are humans they are allowed to and will make mistakes. However every single thing they do will be examined and they will expect to not make mistakes because of their status. Even if they do something that is small to normal peoples standards, they will still get scrutiny for their actions.
Star Athletes often believe that their fame will allow them to get by something. An example of this is Florida State University Quarter Back, Jameis Winston. In spring of 2014 Jameis decided to walk into a grocery store and just take crab legs without paying for them. Another account of an athlete taking advantage of their star status would be Johnny Manziel. Manziel was partying and getting drunk in public. Although legal, his actions made others not want to look at him as a role model. I plan to use multiple internet resources and some books regarding celebrities using their status in society as a way to get out of something.

The topic of my research paper is the safety of pre-hospital emergency workers. Being the child of two parents in the medical field can be tough at times. My mother was a Paramedic and my father is currently still one. The horrific things i hear them talk about makes me wonder about the safety of pre-hospital emergency workers. Paramedics and EMT’s are assaulted in the back of ambulances every single day. They are sometimes the first people on scenes and they have no clue what they are walking into. It’s a dangerous job. There are some instances where ambulances crash and because the person is attending to a patient, they are not wearing a seat belt. This vastly increases the person’s chance of being extremely hurt or even death. Police officers have guns, nightsticks, and tasters. But what do emergency workers have? They basically have nothing to protect themselves except for their partner and their body. This causes large amounts of stress and images in people’s mind they cannot forget. This is why the mental safety of pre-hospital emergency workers is also very important. When they are off shift they are left alone with their feelings from work. Statistics show a large amount of pre-hospital emergency workers are diagnosed with depression and alcoholism. I feel like it should be a point that these people see catastrophic things and put their lives on the line every day and the least they deserve is a good support counseling system and a society who understand what they go through every day. Society hears about police officers being shot or getting into car accidents but nobody really hears about what goes on in a Paramedics or EMT’s world.

For my research paper, the topic I chose to write on is racially biased police officers in the United States. I chose this topic because it is a problem that goes on in a nation where everybody is equal, no matter their color. I also noticed this topic in the newspaper recently, which gave me the idea to write about. I plan to use examples of situations that police officers have been biased or have seemed biased in their acts. I will use the internet or maybe some newspaper articles to find information on this topic. Information for this topic should not be hard to find since there are many cases where police officers have been racially biased. I am going to research statistics of the nation to see if there is a part of the country where this problem has maybe come up the most. I am also going to research to see if there is a race that police officers are the most biased to. A third idea I am going to research is the idea that racially biased police officers affect the communities where their cases have had come up. For my research paper, I am going to take a persuasive approach, stating facts to prove that there are accounts where police officers have been racially biased in the United States.

A thirty-two billion dollar business forcing people to work against the wills. Some people promised a better life while others are just children abducted because of their small size. Although assumptions are made that these people are used just for sexual crimes a lot of them are paid over extremely low wages to produce items lie bricks and chocolate. Many of these people trafficked are treated like slaves and expected to work long hours and be shackled to a post or to another prisoner. One of the most important events that human trafficker participate is the annual Superbowl. Many people ,especially women and young girls, are trafficked to the the men staying in that town for the Superbowl. A lot of people brought into human trafficking are expected to reach a nightly quota. The quotas normally range from five hundred dollars to one thousand. Women are expected to be with six to ten different men every night seven days a week. The women who have been apart of the human trafficking circle are expected to teach the girls how to handle their job efficiently and show them how to reach their nightly quota. Other ways people are trapped into human trafficking are being in a relationship where they are promised gifts, given compliments, and also promised fast money. By being promised all these things the women are trapped into thinking its okay to become physically intimate with this man ,but later down the road they are promised that by many different men. Women and children are sold online daily. People sell these people by selling them on false websites advertising massage parlors while others are not as discrete and sold on the category of escorts.

The reason I chose to do my research paper on underpaid teachers is because I want to become a teacher myself and I don’t think teachers get enough credit for what they do. If you think about it, none of us would be where we are today if we didn’t go to school and have different teachers. In my research paper, I plan on comparing and contrasting the salary of a teacher with different careers. I also plan on highlighting how much money a teacher should make depending on the college degree that they earned. Of course I think that a teacher with only a bachelor’s degree shouldn’t receive the same amount of money as a teacher who has a doctorate. Although I plan on having many comparisons, this research paper will most likely be more argumentative. Different subtopics that I will probably include are how much a teacher makes, what a teacher really does and how many hours a week the average teacher works (as home and in school). Other things I may mention are the pros and cons of being a teacher and statistics on how many teachers live below the poverty line. I think it would be interesting to highlight the different environments that teachers are placed in, especially high school teachers. This paper will be biased towards teachers being paid more. Most of my information that I will find will be from an online source. I plan on looking up different graphs and statistics along with different articles with personal experienced and others opinions on teacher’s salary.

I was lucky enough to grow up with three siblings, two sisters and one brother. My relationships with my siblings have had an enormous impact on my life. My sisters were there for me to talk about girl things like makeup and boys, things I wouldn’t be able to talk to my brother about. Since my relationship with my sisters is so essential to my life, I’ve decided to talk about the theme of sisterhood displayed through various genres like books, movies, and music. I did some research on Amy Tan, an author we briefly studied, and she has a novel titled The Hundred Secret Senses talks about her relationship with her sister. One of my all time favorite movies is Frozen, a Disney animation with a different theme then you would expect. Frozen shows the relationship between two sisters, who are both princesses, and how their relationship changes due to extenuating circumstances. In the end, viewers are able to see the importance of sisterhood and that is what I want to depict in my research paper. The Help, a novel and a motion picture displays a different form of sisterhood. The theme of sisterhood in the Help is not displayed by ladies who are related and share the same blood, but is instead displayed by women who share the same struggle. These women stand by each other although they have different stories; they know what it means to be a true sister. The bible also speaks of sisterhood and brotherhood. Love your neighbor as yourself and care for your brothers and sisters is one key theme in the bible. To me, the relationships that you build in your family are very important and I can relate to, which is why I choose to write my research paper on this topic.

Social network has been radically changing the communication landscape over the past several years. Interact through the Internet where a plethora of social media tools has totally changed the way of communication. In these years I found myself growing up quickly and s did the social network technology. Instead of talking, looking at each other, while being at the same physical place, people seem to be spending more and more time communicating behind a keyboard. I can see and feel the benefits provided by such technologies that seem to make everyone’s life easier, but I believe they still have some potential negative effects on people which should not be ignored. Therefore, I want to develop a research paper based on the topic of the impact of the social network. I will mainly go online to search for some data and information that are analytical and can be easily compared or contrasted. I would choose “Online Identity vs. Real Identity”, “Speech freedom vs. Offensive Comment”, and “Sharing information vs. Privacy Exposure” as subtopics.

My research paper topic will discuss the criticisms of advertising on television commercials and what negative, lasting effects these advertisements can leave on children. I have chosen this research paper topic because marketing and television production is a field that I plan on studying in college. I hope to learn more about these topics from a psychological and ethical side that I probably won’t hear about too often in college, which will hopefully make me a little more well-rounded and down to earth in the field. In this paper, I would take an opinionated stance and provide examples of how children have distorted views of society because of television ads. This way, my paper will be analyzing effects of commercials from this point of view and argue against the kinds of commercials that can ruin a child’s self-confidence. In my research paper I will explore subtopics such as commercials that distort a child’s body image, encourage substance abuse, and promote violence. I also plan on analyzing, comparing, and contrasting the way advertisements affect children on channels that are geared towards a younger audience as opposed to channels like MTV. Another subtopic I intent to explore is the ethical side of advertisements, exploring what is morally acceptable to show to children. I intend to research a lot on databases, such as the Gale Database that provides many resources in turn. The Gale Database gives me access to primary sources like magazine articles, journals, and newspaper articles. Of course, acknowledging that we are in a progressing digital age, I intend to use a lot of credible websites as well. Lastly, I plan on finding book sources as well that have studied the effect of media on children.
