Vocab Unit 1 Blue Section Only




















Post (over this weekend) ten (10) sentences using ten different vocabulary words correctly, giving a context clue to the meaning of the word within your sentence.

Rows 1-3 should work with words # 1-10. 
Rows 4-6 should work with words # 11-20.

Your context clue should use restatement, contrast, or inference as explained on p. 7 of your vocab book.

Of course, identify yourself according to your first name, last initial, and section color.

e.g. Usually slightly nervous and uncertain, most ninth graders entering St. Mark's are somewhat taciturn during their initial days in school.

1. When at a Eagles game it would not be germane for me to brag about my favorite team, the Steelers.
2. My appetite is insatiable, I am almost always hungry even after a full meal.
3. Many small children are intransigent, and do not cooperate until you bribe them with candy or a new toy.
4. In the early 1900s, African-Americans were often insulted by invidious white men.
5. Men like Bill Gates should be very largesse with their immense wealth, so they often donate to many foundations.

1. The first key to a successful business is an acquisitive and thrifty personality and the ability to recognize a good investment which will bring in profits from a bad one which will do nothing but eat away at your money till you have nothing left.
2. One of the most puzzling things about dictators is that when they arrogate a territory they instantly seize and pillage all of the goods and resources they can and then wonder why they are hated so.
3. When I arrived to hear the supposedly eloquent and charismatic speaker I was horribly disappointed by his use of banal and basic terminology.
4. I understand that it is a good thing that my parents lecture me when I have made a mistake but sometimes they belabor the point far too much.
5. I don’t understand how one can say that a critiques constant carping is sometimes to nit-picky when the whole point of being a critique is to be nit-picky.
6. One of the things that really annoys me occurs when I read an essay which isn’t coherent and as a result seems to be nothing more than a bunch of random ideas which have no point to the main topic.
7. I watched as overtime the water when placed into the freezer congealed into hard little ice cubes.
8. When writing my books I often will try to emulate a certain idea from one of my favorite authors whilst at the same time trying to make sure that the work contains some of my own ideas.
9. It is my personal belief that the people who often times deserve the greatest encomiums are the ones who did the small thing that affected a person in a big way rather than the big thing that affected only a few people.
10. As a catholic so often it is easy to say that we will eschew from certain things when we are asked what we would do in a situation, however when we are actually faced with the scenario a lot of the tome we do just the opposite of what we said.
