Seniors Vocab Green Class due Monday Oct. 3



Write ten sentences using any ten different words in context, giving clues of restatement, inference, or contrast.

This is due before school on Monday Oct. 3. Write or print out your sentences if you're having trouble posting.

Antediluvian--adjective 1. of or belonging to the period before the Flood in Genesis
2. very old, old-fashioned, or out of date; antiquated; primitive: antediluvian ideas.

Antibiotic—noun 1. any of a large group of chemical substances, as penicillin or streptomycin, produced by various microorganisms and fungi, having the capacity in dilute solutions to inhibit the growth of or to destroy bacteria and other microorganisms, used chiefly in the treatment of infectious diseases.

Automaton noun
1. a mechanical figure or contrivance constructed to act as if by its own motive power; robota person or animal that acts in a monotonous, routine manner, without active intelligence.

Beneficent adjective
Doing good or causing good to be done; conferring benefits; kindly in action or purpose.

Synchronize verb (used with object)

Omnipresent adjective present everywhere at the same time: the omnipresent God.

Multilingual adjective 1. using or able to speak several or many languages with some facility.

Impermeable adjective 1. not permeable; impassable.

Sanction noun 1. authoritative permission or approval, as for an action.

Retrofit verb 1. to modify equipment (in airplanes, automobiles, a factory, etc.) that is already in service using parts developedor made available after the time of original manufacture.

Avert verb (used with object) 1. to turn away or aside: to avert one's eyes.

2. The speaker’s diction in the story was old English and hard to understand.
3. The beneficent owner gave his workers off on the snowy morning so that they would not have to travel in the bad weather.

1. As we drove through Amish Town, many aspects of their life were very antediluvian, as they hung their clothes to dry, and still used a horse and buggy.
2. Beneficent people probably had an easy time writing their college resumes since they spend so much time volunteering.
3. One of the most difficult parts of cheerleading is making sure everyone is synchronized and on time so that the routine looks put together.
4. While Sally was at the party, she new she shouldn’t drink because she had to drive her friend home, but she was counterintuitive when she choose to drink anyways.
5. Most singers have to put a lot of emphasis on diction when performing so that the audience can understand and appreciate the song.
6. Lisa read The Secret Life of Bees at least fifteen times, so she was very fluent in her discussions about the novel.
7. In college, especially when attending a large school, it is often thought that since your classes are so big, the professors are inaccessible and wont give you the time of day.
8. My uncle, having lived in four different countries, is multilingual.
9. While doing homework, it was extremely difficult to avert my attention away from the TV and back to my homework.

1. Though I would rather sleep after my long day of school, I realized that it would be beneficent if I studied for the upcoming test since I was failing the class.

2. The dancers’ movements were very synchronized, and every movement they made looked very together, causing the routine to look perfect.

3. She told Bob that she believed in UFO’s, but he just stared at her counterintuitively, believing that they could not exist.

4. Susan was fluent in Italian, but when she went to Sicily, she could not understand the people because their diction was so different.

1. We need to synchronize our watches to the correct time for daylight savings time.

3. Interstate 95 is the road I use to get to St. Mark’s everyday.
4. I wish I was fluent in French after 7 years of it in school, but I’m not.
5. My mom seems to be omnipresent, especially when I don’t expect her to be everywhere I am.
6. Being multilingual is very important if you are a foreign ambassador.

4) It must have taken the swimmers a lot of practice in order to synchronize their strokes in tune.
5) The Harvard speaker had great diction and used a vast vocabulary during his speech.
6) After taking French in college, Sarah was fluent in French.
7) During the hurricane, many homes and buildings became inaccessible because the roads were flooded.
8) After touring Europe for many months, Dianna became multilingual and can speak French, Spanish, Italian, and English without hesitation.

1. Doing my vocab homework was very beneficent for me because I knew what would be on the vocab test.
2. Synchronize diving is a really cool thing because the both do the exact same thing at the same time before they hit the water.
3. My dad and I are in communion on the thought that jumping off a bridge for publicity is wrong.
4. Because both of the men pushed with the same force, they did not move and were at equilibrium.
5. I hope when I went into surgery they excised the tumor completely off.
6. When my pup pup went to Italy he had an advantage because he was fluent in that language so he understood what they were saying.
7. The parking spot was for the handicapped only so it was inaccessible to me.
8. My cousin is multilingual because he knows how to speak in Italian, German, French, and Spanish.
9. Hopefully my ceiling is impermeable so none of the rain gets into my house.
