Senior Green Class Vocab Homework



1. Choose any ten (10) vocabulary words from the list below and write sentences using them correctly in context and giving clues to their meanings.

2. Post your sentences as comments on Schoolsville using your first name, last initial, and section color to identify yourself. If you have trouble posting, print out your sentences to bring to class tomorrow.

I hope to make up your vocabulary test (on Tuesday Sept. 27) from your class's sentences.

Here's the list:

1. The autocratic nation did not thrive due to the incompetent ruler.
2. The teacher circumlocution and did not give me a straight forward answer.
3. Due to the guilty verdict, the man now had to serve 5 years in jail.
4. The boy’s cologne permeated the room in such a strong manner that even people on the opposite side of the room began to cough.
5. The chubby boy is omnivorous, eating anything and everything that comes his way.
6. Once the dentist extracted the wisdom tooth, he then began to sew her gums back together.

1. The dentist had to extract a tooth, which left a hole inside the little boy’s gum.
2. The verdict of my parents left me unhappy and miserable all night.
3. The boy’s mood constantly fluctuated when it came to social topics.
4. With winter coming around the corner, my doctor advised me to get inoculated against certain maladies.
5. This year the cheerleading team has a few neophytes, but this will not be a set back only a bump in the road to success.
6. As the giant tree began to fall the enormous group of bystanders began to divert in all different directions, hoping to stay clear of its path.
7. In retrospect, I now realize that I should have studied more for that biology test.
8. When asked about what went on at the party the previous night, the children begin to talk in a very circumlocution kind of way.
9. When the choreography was first taught the routine had a very asynchronous look to it, making the coach go over the exact timing for each stunt.

As we drove through the colonial town of Williamsburg, we saw many antebellum houses for sale.

The student council was set up in an autocratic way so that no one else could voice their opinions.

Many banks act as benefactors to students by loaning them money to pay for a school that they wouldn’t be able to afford on their own.

The police got tired of the boys circumlocution and let him go home.

Because roaches are omnivorous, anything left out overnight will be eaten by the morning.

In order to confuse the enemy the army diverted their path and snuck up on them from behind.

Before she could detect the slightest sign of cancer, it had completely permeated her body.

The verdict of the Casey Anthony trial was that she had not intentionally killed her daughter and she was innocent.

We extracted the juice from the lemon to make lemonade.

In retrospect, I probably should have studied for the test since I needed to get an A in the course.

1. During the O. J simpson trial the verdict was not guilty, people around the world were enraged the outcome.
2. When she finished college, in retrospect, highschool was the easiest time of her life, even though at the time it didn’t seem like it.
3. It took a lot of convincing but the girl dissuaded her friend from sneaking out late at night, as to ensure that nothing wrong happened.
4. Weighing yourself everyday is bad because your weight fluctuates everyday, so you never know what your exact weight is.
5. Every Christmas, the students on scholarships send thank you cards to their benefactors.
6. The young boy started running for an hour everyday, soon his meager appetite became omnivorous.
7. On my way to school I had to divert my direction due to a huge accident on the road.
8. After hitting her head on the car door she experienced intermittent pain and dizziness throughout the day.
9. There is no quick and easy solution to this complex, multifaceted problem.

After looking at the board, divert you attention to the T.V. screen.
The houses after the Civil War looked horrendous, but the antebellum homes were gorgeous.
I began to extract the ball away from Keith after he began to drive to the basket.
The illness began to permeate Canada and all the through North America.
Scott was a neophyte to the baseball team, and because of that he had the most strikeouts at the plate.
Many people convened in the Student Council office to discuss Spirit Week.
Generous benefactors made the Joe O’Neill 5k a great success.
My friend has always suffered from a terrible malady, chicken pox.
Lisa dissuaded John by telling him to instead vote for Jack and not Hank.

Vocab Sentences
1. First impressions aren’t everything, sometimes people turn out to be the antithesis of what you originally thought of them.
2. Sometimes people attempt circumlocution in an attempt to escape having to tell a painful truth.
3. In order to make lemonade you would need to extract the juice from a lemon by cutting it in half and then squeezing it together.
4. My thirteen year old brother has become quite omnivorous in the past couple of years eating everything in his path.
5. When he came to find that his life has gone awry, he took the necessary steps to divert it back to a clean path.
6. Her hyperbolic mannerisms made the character a captivating person to follow.
7. Sadly, my friends and I have asynchronous lunches this year making it hard for us to socialize throughout the day.
8. A diabetic’s blood sugar levels fluctuate drastically on a daily basis.

5) Some of my friends have such a short attention span they divert the conversation all the time.

7) The stock market fluctuates a few times per year, that people don’t know where to keep their stock.

1. Many people would regard Mother Theresa as a major benefactor in history because of her help to the poor.

2. Everyone in the courtroom could see that the man was guilty of the murder, but somehow the jury found not enough evidence against him, therefore their verdict was "not guilty".

3. I find that a true friend is not one who dissuades you from doing what you want to do, instead they push you and tell you to strive for your goals.

4. The girl always came to school late, claiming she lived further away than me, but in truth, our houses were equidistant from school.

5. My dad helped me when I got a splinter by extracting the wood from my foot.

6. I would not say she was one of my best friends, seeing as though her mood always fluctuated and I like a more stable friend.

The old lady came across a malady during her later years in life which eventually caused her death.

The laughter permeated throughout the room once the teach broke the silence with a joke.

The people of the town convened for a meeting in the hall to discuss the break-ins that were occuring.

Sally dissuaded her friend from buying the expesive pair of shoes because she was already broke to begin with.

Once the verdict of the trial was spoken, that Joe was found not guilty, his family rejoiced and gave him big hugs.

A neophyte would find lacrosse a challenging sport considering it takes a lot of practice to get your stick skills down.

Each hurdle was equidistant from each other so that the runner would get a fair amount of space in between each one.

When Kelly realized buisness was not what she wanted to do with her life, she diverted to becoming a history teacher.

The sanctimonious women prayed multiple times an hour and bragged of her religious beliefs.

1. In full retrospect, learning from previous mistakes finally becomes a pure ease.
2. As I was proceeding down south route 1, I missed the exit and was forced to divert my tracks.
3. In order to weigh out decisions and improve your decision making, you must be aware that there will always be an antithesis opposed to your ideal decision. You just have to be careful to choose which will work out better.
4. During laboratory experiments, it's extremely crucial to follow the directions and extract the precise amounts of chemicals from the beaker to place into the test tube.
5. For parents who have full time jobs and also have many children, having a nanny around can be a huge benefactor.
6. Laser hair removal is a bit pricey but effective. Not to mention, it's highly innocuous too.
7. The omnivorous cheetah made sure it chased down the gazelle to get its fix of juicy meat for dinner.
8. Once cancer is found in the body, it tends to permeate throughout.
