Senior Purple Vocab Words due Oct. 3


Write ten sentences using any ten different words in context, giving clues of restatement, inference, or contrast.

This is due before school on Monday Oct. 3. Write or print out your sentences if you're having trouble posting.

Antediluvian--adjective 1. of or belonging to the period before the Flood in Genesis
2. very old, old-fashioned, or out of date; antiquated; primitive: antediluvian ideas.

Antibiotic—noun 1. any of a large group of chemical substances, as penicillin or streptomycin, produced by various microorganisms and fungi, having the capacity in dilute solutions to inhibit the growth of or to destroy bacteria and other microorganisms, used chiefly in the treatment of infectious diseases.

Automaton noun
1. a mechanical figure or contrivance constructed to act as if by its own motive power; robota person or animal that acts in a monotonous, routine manner, without active intelligence.

Beneficent adjective
Doing good or causing good to be done; conferring benefits; kindly in action or purpose.

Synchronize verb (used with object)
1. to cause to indicate the same time, as one timepiece with another
Circumscribe verb (used with object), -scribed, -scrib·ing.
1. to draw a line around; encircle: to circumscribe a city on a map

Communion noun
interchange or sharing of thoughts or emotions; intimate communication: communion with nature.

Diction noun

Inaccessible adjective not accessible; unapproachable.

Interstate adjective 1. connecting or involving different states: interstate commerce.

Malapropism noun act or habit of misusing words ridiculously, especially by the confusion of words that are similar in sound.

Neologism noun 1. a new word, meaning, usage, or phrase.

Omnipresent adjective present everywhere at the same time: the omnipresent God.

Multilingual adjective 1. using or able to speak several or many languages with some facility.

Impermeable adjective 1. not permeable; impassable.

Sanction noun 1. authoritative permission or approval, as for an action.

Retrofit verb 1. to modify equipment (in airplanes, automobiles, a factory, etc.) that is already in service using parts developedor made available after the time of original manufacture.

Avert verb (used with object) 1. to turn away or aside: to avert one's eyes.

1. The doctor prescirbed an antibiotic to eliminate the infection.
2. Louis and Gary synchronized their watches so that they were sure they would leave and arrive at the exact same time.
3. The detective circumscribed the crime scene with white chalk.
4. The surgeon excised the tumor using a scapel with a steady hand and a lot of concentration.
5. I wish I could call myself fluent in Italian, but I still have a lot of work to speak it with ease.
6. The caution tape blocking the door made the gym inaccessible to the fans that showed up in hopes of watching the game.
7. Catholics believe in an all-knowing and omnipresent god.
8. There is not one multilingual teacher at Saint Mark's that can teach Spanish, French, Italian, and German.

1) The chemistry professor told us to avert our eyes because the reaction was going to cause a blinding light.
2) Shannon is considered multilingual because she is fluent in the English, Italian, and Spanish languages.
3) In order to better prepare for the SAT, Betty would flip through the dictionary and learn the spelling, usage, and definition of a neologism.
4) Whilst editing her article on cat breeds, Betty decided to excise the paragraph about favorite toys of the cats.
5) As the seniors arrived for their graduation, there was an omnipresent sense of sadness because this would be the last time they were all together as a class.

I should be fluent in Italian since I have taken it for four years.
His job requires him to be multilingual since it involves a lot of traveling.
When my dad is mad at his mom he cracks jokes about her being antediluvian.
I have to take an antibiotic for my ear infection.
Although it might help her out I don’t think it is beneficial to the whole team.
Synchronize our watches sounds like something James Bond would say.
They have to excise the tumor from her brain.
My dad thinks he’s fluent in italian, but really he has malapropism.
When I’m home alone at night I have hyperawareness, and I get paranoid that someone is breaking in every time my dog moves.
The crowds of underclassmen in the hallway are impermeable at times causing me to be late to class.

1. While performing their routine the cheerleaders were not synchronized, some were going to fast while others were a step behind.
2. The girls wound was starting to cause her pain, afraid it might be infected she went to the doctor to get some antibotics that would help fight the infection.
3. In order to go abroad she had to learn to speak fluent French, not just a few sentences here and there.
4. While most kids in the U.S only know how to speak English, kids from other countries are multilingual, learning many different languages at a young age.
5. My had to go a different route to school due to the signs and cones lined up across the road, making my usual way inaccessible.
6. Your first communion is a big deal, it helps you become one step closer to God and being more connected to the Christian community.
7. When I got off the ride I was dizzy and my equilibrium was off.
8. In the subway of the foreign city the girl went into hyperawareness mode and made sure all her valuable items were stashed away out of sight.

When my sister was sick, the doctor gave her an antibiotic to help her get over the sickness.
At lunch I always get excised from line from cutting in front of everyone.
The man was being beneficent for holding the door for the ladies behind him.
The father told the little girl to avert her eyes away from the inappropriate picture.
My father can already speak French fluently, and he only had practiced it for a year.
My parents and I drove on the interstate highway without stopping.
I did not approve of or sanction the action of my friend.
Student Council works the best when they are all in equilibrium.
My dad tried to retrofit the wiffle¬-ball bat so he could use it during the game.
He quickly disabused the notion the man was guilty when he came back with evidence to prove he was innocent.

2. Being fluent in spanish is beneficial for the young aspiring doctor because this gives him a better chance to obtain the job.

The doctor finally came up with the diagnosis for the patient and immediately put him on antibiotics to help cure his sickness.
The sump pump is an automaton that empties water through a pipe once it is filled to the top.
The beneficent green house organization built thousands of efficient homes that conserve energy by using solar panels.
The boy and girl were in communion with one another and decided to go on a date to a restaurant.
The boy’s story was written in great diction and the teacher decided to use it as an example for other classes.
A rocket shooting off the ground is an equilibrium since it has the force of gravity pulling against it and momentum pushing it up.
The elevator was inaccessible because of the fire on the first floor so the people had use the stairs to escape the burning building.
Compared to America, water fountains are not omnipresent in countries where there is a lot of poverty.
I often find myself malapropism because I tend to mix up the words “synonym” and “cinnamon” which I easily mispronounced.
