Senior Journal #5 Rock Riffs (purple and red)
THIS IS YOUR FINAL JOURNAL ASSIGNMENT FOR THE FIRST MARKING PERIOD.
POST BEFORE SCHOOL ON MONDAY.
ALL JOURNALS #1-5 ARE DUE PRINTED OUT ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 26.
TO GET SOME IDEAS, THERE ARE SOME FORMER COMMENTS IN THE OCTOBER 2009 ARCHIVES ALONG WITH SOME COMMENTS BELOW FROM TWO "OVERACHIEVERS" [WELL DONE].
Wanna get creative and have fun with some of your favorite songs ? Then try "rock riff writing." It's an idea that I have "borrowed" from Julianna Baggott, a St. Mark's alum and accomplished author.
There are no hard and fast rules. Choose a song that you really enjoy and use it to write a description, scene, dialogue, character sketch, or story (or film?) treatment.
I've included lyrics from a song that you might know by Billy Joel called Scenes from an Italian Restaurant. It's a story song already that involves two fairly well-defined characters, Brenda and Eddie. Read over the lyrics below:
Brenda and Eddie were the popular steadies /And the king and the queen of the prom /Riding around with the car top down and the radio on / Nobody looked any finer /Or was more of a hit at the Parkway Diner / We never knew we could want more than that out of life / Surely Brenda and Eddie would always know how to survive. / Brenda and Eddie were still going steady in the summer of '75 / when they decided the marriage would be at the end of July / Everyone said they were crazy / "Brenda you know that you're much too lazy/ and Eddie could never afford to live that kind of life." / Oh, but there we were wavin' Brenda and Eddie goodbye. / Well they got an apartment with deep pile carpets / And a couple of paintings from Sears / A big waterbed that they bought with the bread /They had saved for a couple of years / They started to fight when the money got tight /And they just didn't count on the tears.
OK. if YOU had chosen this song, your creative opportunities would be endless to complete this assignment.
Describe your favorite Italian restaurant, from soup to nuts. Or describe, in even more detail, their Brenda & Eddie's humble abode.
Or write a scene at Brenda & Eddie's wedding, perhaps, that foreshadows their eventual breakup. Or a scene where Brenda & Eddie really rule the roost hanging out at the local diner.
Maybe compose a dialogue in which Eddie proposes to Brenda. Maybe have Brenda proposing to Eddie, which might explain how Eddie wasn't ready to get married in the first place.
Character sketch Eddie. Dress him appropriately, have him talk, act, react, etc. the way he should. Do the same with Brenda.
Maybe take the point of view of one of their high school "friends" who tells us in a brief dramatic monologue that she knew their marriage would "never last." [dramatic monologue is when one character talks continuously to another, who never is heard responding].
If you're really ambitious, come up with a story or movie treatment. I would define a treatment as a basic plot road map with some interesting explanatory comments sprinkled in. If you're casting the movie, who would be your first choices to play the roles of Brenda and Eddie? Mine might be Marisa Tomei and Nicholas Cage. But they're both probably too old now to pull this off.
Hopefully, reading my "riff" ideas on this Billy Joel song will encourage you to be just as creative with your own choice.
By the way, the photo is of Caffe Napoli on Mulberry Street in New York's Little Italy.

Beautiful by James Blunt
After a long hard day at work James (the narrator) jumps on the subway. As he glances up he sees a beautiful mystery woman. They glance at each other, their eyes sticking on one another practically gazing into the depths of their souls and he feels something between them. James feels the sparks fly between them he’s sure they would have something great but he is also sure she will never be with him. As this subway ride continues James thinks of a plan—he wants this mystery woman to be his, but as he thinks about it a little more he once again comes to the conclusion they will never be together. As the subway comes to a halt they both get off and as they pass each other one last moment is shared between them and James is sure that wonderful moment will last them til the end because he knows the truth is they will never be together.
Mystery Woman: beautiful, a little shy, kind of stuck up, snobby/nose in the air
Narrator: Shy, nervous, not very good-looking, bad posture, sweet, sensitive, under cover poet
In this music video I would cast:
(Beautiful mystery woman): Megan Fox
(James, narrator): John Mayer
First Verse From- “Lose Yourself” by Eminem
His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy
There's vomit on his sweater already, mom's spaghetti
He's nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready
To drop bombs, but he keeps on forgetting
What he wrote down, the whole crowd goes so loud
He opens his mouth, but the words won't come out
He's choking how, everybody's joking now
The clock's run out, time's up over, bloah!
Snap back to reality, oh there goes gravity
Oh, there goes Rabbit, he choked
He's so mad, but he won't give up that
Easy, no
He won't have it, he knows his whole back's to these ropes
It don't matter, he's dope
He knows that, but he's broke
He's so stagnant that he knows
When he goes back to his mobile home, that's when it's
Back to the lab again yo
This whole rhapsody
He better go capture this moment and hope it don't pass him
I am going to relate these lyrics to what goes through Ryan Howards mind each time he gets up to bat for Philadelphia in this current 2010 postseason.
Howard waits in the on deck circle, he’s nervous. He tries to swing his bat with the weighted doughnut as hard as he can to warm himself up and chill the nerves. Ryan’s got a mouthful of Redman chew; he spits it sloppily on his shoe but is too determined in settling his mind for the job at hand to notice. Utley gets on barely by an infield single. The bases are loaded now. Howard walks up to the plate at Citizens Bank Park with an emotionless expression on his face, but really his stomach is on pins and needles. It’s the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs. Phillies fans shout for him to go yard. He takes the first pitch; it’s a strike on the outside corner. Giant’s fans behind the plate yell choke! The next two are junk in the dirt, the counts 2-1. The next pitch is gas up in the zone. Howard takes a big looping choppy swing at it but wiffs. The counts 2-2 now. He steps out of the box for a second, thinks about how this may be the last time he’s in this position. The teams getting older now and there’s no way for sure the organization will be able to pay all the veterans. He knows if he gets another fastball he’ll be able to tag it. Closer Brian Wilson of the Giant’s feels confident he can blow another fastball by Howard like the first two strikes. Wilson delivers the pitch, its up in the zone. Howard makes contact and drives the ball to left center. It’s got enough air under it to make it. GONE, Grand Slam homerun for Ryan Howard! Philadelphia takes game seven of the NLCS. They move on to the World Series.
Song: Sadie Hawkins Dance
By: Relient K
http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/relientk/sadiehawkinsdance.html
We were all in the bathroom talking about who we were going to ask to the Sadie Hawkins dance. Taylor wanted to ask Tyler, Susan was going with Steven, and Bethany was going with Brandon. “Ugh. Who am I going to ask?” I thought repeatedly. I didn’t have a boyfriend or any real close guy friends I could go with. “Who are you asking Ashley?” Bethany asked as we strolled out of the bathroom. “Umm…” I looked around. “…That guy.” I gestured towards a tall male with brunette hair who was walking down the hallway playing air guitar. “Aiden?” Susan replied with a questionable tone. “Yea. He’s cute. Why? Is he weird?” I questioned. Taylor looked at me, shrugged her shoulders and said “It’s your funeral.”
I went off to my English class that I shared with this Aiden character. He always sat in the back and napped, but it was his turn to present his dialogue assignment to the class today. He got up, walked to the front of the class, and started reciting his dialogue like he was a natural born actor. I was caught completely off guard by his open personality. After he was done, we all clapped loudly as he bowed like a gentleman. “He doesn’t seem so bad.” I thought. “And his sweater is nice.” Just as the thought finished in my head, someone yelled out “hey nice sweater grandma’s boy!” I turned and glared at the quarter back of our football team. “Leave him alone Chris” “No, no it’s okay. Thanks!” He replied sarcastically. “I got it from your grandma. She initially made it for you, but then she realized your head’s too fat to fit through the neck hole.” Everyone belted out in laughter. Even the teacher chuckled slightly. The quarter back got up angrily. Saved by the bell. It was time for lunch and everyone stampeded out like their hair was on fire, except me. I had to stop by my locker to get a book to do the homework for my math class I was too lazy to do last night.
I thought my combination as I put it in, “12-23-34.” I dragged my book out of my locker and shut it a little louder than I had planned too. “Fight fight fight!” It filled the hallway that lead to the cafeteria. I started walking a little faster to get there, thinking maybe I could catch the end of the fight. I walked faster and faster until I saw him, Aiden, run out of the Café and slide around the corner. He slowed his pace as he got up to where I was until he was completely stopped in front of me. He smiled and said “Thanks for standing up for me in English. That guy’s a jerk.” I laughed, “He lets his muscles do the talking. Except for his brain. That just sort of sits there.” He laughed. I looked at him, gathered some courage and said “You’re smooth and good with talking. Would you go with me to the Sadie Hawkins?” He excitedly said yes and we walked back to the café together. He slid his hand into mine, and I couldn’t help but smile. Just before we went into the lunch room, he turned to me and asked “Baby, do you like my sweater?”
War Pigs by Black Sabbath
Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
Evil minds that plot destruction
Sorcerers of death's construction
In the fields the bodies burning
As the war machine keeps turning
Death and hatred to mankind
Poisoning their brainwashed minds
Oh lord yeah!
Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor
Time will tell on their power minds
Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait 'til their judgement day comes
Yeah!
Now in darkness world stops turning
Ashes where the bodies burning
No more war pigs have the power
Hand of God has struck the hour
Day of judgement, God is calling
On their knees the war pig's crawling
Begging mercy for their sins
Satan laughing spreads his wings
Oh lord yeah!
I used the lyrics from this song to make up a story of my own using the characters from this song.
BANG
The continual beating sound on the door resonated. Splinters flew from its wooden frame. Three men lay huddled in the room behind the door. They were older men, obviously used to living the good life.
They were terrified.
BANG
The first was a general. Stars and decorations for bravery and heroism decorated his jacket. Don't let his uniform fool you. He is no hero. His father was a rich man, he lied, he misinformed, and he killed to get to the top. In his later years he sent the men under him to their deaths. He made many a widow in his time. War was his game. He knew when to give "respects" for the brave troops under him. They were pretty popular with the press and they usally made them forget about the men who gained the field and focus on the man who led them. The general could care less about his soldiers. They are pawns.
BANG
The second was a politician. He was a man who had hawked for war. He called men cowards and unpatriotic for their qualms with his vision. Of course, he himself had never fought in a war. He had more important things to do. But he always reminds his voters of his patriotic "fervor". He loves his country. Well... he loves when its war producers line his pockets. Why should he care about the poor who die for his cause? They are pawns.
BANG
The third was a manufacturer. His products were death. Whether by bullets, gas , or missles, he made his profit off of others hatred and pain. He made weapons that could burn, eviscerate, vaporize, and slowly choke for the right price. He's watched his weapons work (from a safe distance of course). The fields burned. The victims died. And he smiled. Caring for the victims? That's for families of the victims of his creations. He has profits to make. Why should he care about the fate of his guinea pigs? They are pawns.
BANG
The war pigs celebrated death. They revelled in it. They ate and drank to it. To their success. To their gain. But soon, the pawns fought back. The trickle of protestors became a flood. They became trapped in their own room of decadence. The protestors anger became rage. The war pigs were trapped in a device of their own selfish making.

Just a Dream, by Carrie Underwood
It was two weeks after the day she turned 18/all dressed in white, going to the church that night/She had his box of letters in the passenger seat/six pence in her shoe/something borrowed something *blue*/and when the church doors opened up wide she put her veil down trying to hide the tears oh/she just couldn’t believe it /she heard the trumpets from the military band and the flowers fell out of her hands..
Baby, why'd you leave me, why'd you have to go/I was counting on forever, now I'll never know/I cant even breathe/It's like I'm, looking from a distance, standing in the background/ Everybody's saying, he's not coming home now/This can't be happening to me/This is just a dream..
Characters: Ashley-wife
Dan-military husband
An officer
Dan: I’m so happy now. We’re finally together.
Ashley: I know I can’t believe we’re married. Finally!
Now we can live happily ever after. Just you and me.
..Well, what about tomorrow… two years is a long time Dan. I know I have to be strong, but I’m just worried.
Hey babe, don’t be worried. Let’s just think about tonight, about you and me, together, forever. I’m going to serve my duties and I’ll be back before you know it.
I wish you could just stay here with me… don’t leave me okay?
Babe I would never leave you. I will always love you, forever and ever. I’ll come back to you.
Promise?
I promise….
(Two months later)
Ashley: (thinking to herself) -two years? How am I going to last two more years. Every day feels like a struggle to keep going… I just want him here. I want his arms around me. I miss that comfort. Shutup Ashley you’ll just start crying again. You just got done all of that don’t start up again.-
(doorbell rings)
Ashley: hi how can I help you?
Officer: are you Ashley Jones?
Ashley: yes that is me? Is there a problem?
Officer: (bows his head) I’m so sorry…
Ashley: (takes the envelope from the officer’s hands, closes the door, and with shaking hands opens up the envelope) “Dear Mrs. Daniel Jones, I am sorry to inform you that your husband has been killed serving his duties…” –What? This isn’t true. This is just a dream. (she rereads the letter over and over again) you promised me! you promised me forever and you broke it. please please come back Dan. I can’t do this without you. I don’t know what to do without you.. I just can’t. (tears take over the thoughts and words)…
At the funeral, Ashley remains in the car. Her stomach is in knots and she can barely breathe. Dressed in black and watching and listening to the military band, she gets out and walks slowly to the coffin. The military band and the sad songs play. The tears just keep coming down her face. Ashley thinks to herself what she wishes to tell Dan.
Ashley: -Baby why did you have to go? Why did you leave me? I was counting on forever. I love you and I always will, but I don’t know what to do without you. I feel like no one else is here at this sick place but you and me… and your fading. I’m standing by myself and I know you’re not coming home now…-
(every other person): -I’m sorry for your loss. -I’m so sorry. -He will be honored forever for serving his country.
Ashley: This isn’t real. It’s just a dream.

I leaped out of the shower, grabbed my towel off the hook and dried up as fast as I could. Tonight was a big night and I'm late!... great. Not only is it our aniversery but it's the night I will ask my one true love to marry me. What a great way to start things out by being late. wonderful. I know it may be a little early to pop the question but I am absolutely positive about this girl. I can see Sadie standing next to me in thirty years with graying hair and the same small ring perched on her pretty little finger. Now that I am nineteen my dad finally lets me take his Camero out on special occasions, and boy is this one. Sadie and I have only driven together in it once, and it was the best date we've ever had, we flew through the back roads with speed, style and love. I told my dad I was leaving and I rushed out the door to the shiney red beauty in the driveway. Time to pick up my other beauty, in my old junker it takes about fifteen minutes to get to her house, but in the Camero it takes about eight. I might actually make it on time. The tires screeched as I slammed the breaks and I was out of the car almost before it was at a complete stop, my hands were vibrating with anticipation for the night. It was starting to rain, I hurried up the stairs and reached for the knocker with my heart pounding through my chest. I heard her laugh with her mother as she hugged her goodbye and her soft excited footfalls as she skipped to the door. Sadie flung open the door and leaped in my arms as she squealed with excitation when she saw the Camero. We raced to the car and flew out of the driveway. She loved the Camero even more then I did. The engine was purring as we whisked through the twists and turns of all the back roads on the way to the restaurant. I rolled my eyes and pressed the accelerator further torward the floor when she provoked me to go faster and faster. We were on the last backroad before the main highway, we sped up the last hill and as we started to decend I saw it.
There in the road, up straight ahead a car was stalled the engine was dead
I couldn't stop, so I swerved to the right , I'll never forget the sound that night
The screamin' tires, the bustin' glass and the painful scream that I heard last.
Evertything was black. Everything was gone. Finally I pushed throught the curtain of blackness and drew myself into the reality of head to toe pain. I drew open my eyes which were filled with a warm and gooey liquid that wasn't tears, there were people everywhere. The rain poured down on me waking me up out of my state of dizziness. Sadie! Where was she. I saw a swarm of people all panicking and flustered around one area. I jumped to my unable feet and collapsed, this would not stop me. I forced my body and ran to the crowd. She lay there motionless and broken. I lifted her head and she opened her eyes and looked at me and said "hold me darlin' just a little while". I felt the ring in my pocket, I took it out and slid it onto her weak hands. She looked at me and smiled. I held her close and kissed her our last kiss. Her eyes closed and didn't reopen. She fell completely limp. I whispered 'I love you', and kissed her once more.
Oh where oh where can my baby be? The lord took her away from me. She's gone to heaven so I got to be good, so I can see my baby when I leave this world.

Oh where oh where can my baby be? The lord took her away from me. She's gone to heaven so I got to be good, so I can see my baby when I leave this world.
Last Kiss by Pearl Jam

“Last call, all aboard!” the conductors voice booms over Grand Central station as I sprint towards the train. I leap on just at the last minute. I am on my way to DC for a conference. Trips for pleasure are scarce these days. In my business, music, you have no time off. I am always writing songs to sell. Lately I’ve had a pretty bad writers block. I get on the train and I am absolutely exhausted. I slump down in my seat, expecting to have at least a decent nap on this long ride, so I can at least ponder ideas for songs. As I reach for my iPod, I hear a high-pitched voice behind me. “Is this seat taken?” I turn around to see a girl, no older than 13, in a ragged t-shirt and beat up jeans. I somehow found myself moving my jacket over and shaking my head no. She smiles and I notice one tooth that is badly chipped. I can’t help but wonder how someone could walk around with half a tooth missing.“Where are you headed?” the girl asks. “DC” I reply a little more tersely than I had intended. I was just so tired, and hadn’t had my usual morning Starbucks. She doesn’t seem to pick up on my tone, and continues to inquire questions. All I wanted to do was sleep, and try to think of some good lyrics for a song. Couldn’t she understand? I then finally volunteer a question of my own. “Could you let me sleep?” That’s all I asked. She looks away and I see her chuckle to herself. “ I may be younger than you. And you may have more money in your pocket than I have ever seen in my lifetime. But you would think, a rich girl like you, with a good education and all, would know how to be nice to someone who could use it. Guess they don’t teach that to you in college. Funny the way things are, if you think about it.” I am in complete shock of this answer. I am at a loss for words. She is completely right. Things aren’t fair. I look down see her tattered shoes, and remember her chipped tooth. I look down at my brand new shoes, and remember the whitening strips I had packed in my suitcase. I then open my laptop and title the page “Funny the Way it is”. My writer’s block is gone and I go into a frenzy of typing. I now have something to present at the meeting, thanks to the girl next to me. However, she won't get any credit. Funny the way it is.

A Little Piece of Heaven by Avenged Sevenfold: how the two lovers met.
A boy and a girl, unsespecting of what would happen later that day, were carrying about their lives as if it were and other monday morning at Huntington Beach. He going to work, adn she to school. A long and hard day goes but, but still nothing out of the ordinary. As if it were fate, they both decide they need to relax with a favorite book in the near by coffee shop. After paying for her tripple grande hazlenut mocha latte, she turns suddenly when someone taps her on the shoulder.
"Excuse me, but your shoe is untied."
"Oh thanks," she says as she looks down at her shoes. After tieing it, she looks up to thank the person again, but is unable to speak. Standing before her is a tall, and very attractive guy. Then she noticed that he was carrying the same book as hers. "Oh I love that book." She said with a school girl smile.
"Yeah, it's my favorite," he replied as he noticed she was carrying the same one. "And might it be yours too?"
"Ever since high school."
Finding her sweet, and quite cute, he asked her if she would like to sit with him while enjoying their coffee. obviously, she was egar, but not too egar, to accept the offer. For the three hours the two talked and drank coffee. At the end of the night they decided to make plans to meet at the same place and time the following week.
There are so many songs that I can think of that tell a story. These are my favorites because it actually means something and isn’t just a bunch of random rhymes or phrases. The most recent one that popped into my head first is a song called Speak Now by Taylor Swift. Almost all her songs tell a story but this one’s the most intense I’ve heard. I’ve chosen to tell the story of what was going on before this song. Taylor and Jake met each other their sophomore year in high school. Their best friends were dating each other and decided to introduce them on what seemed to be a double date. As a group they went out to see a movie and then get ice cream and Taylor and Jake really hit it off. The two began hanging out more and more and started dating soon after. They stayed together throughout high school long after their best friends stopped dating each other. Before they knew it, it was the end of their senior year and college was on the horizon for both. Taylor wanted to be a school teacher and was going to be attending the local college in the fall. Jake on the other hand had been granted a football scholarship to a school that was pretty far away. Taylor and Jake had discussed how hard this would be but they both knew that Jake couldn’t pass up this scholarship, especially since it’d been his dream school since he was little. Their last summer together was bittersweet. They spent every minute of it together and promised they wouldn’t let the distance mess things up and at the end of their schooling they’d be together again and get married. The fall came and they said their goodbyes. Throughout their freshman year things were alright but it was putting a great deal of stress on the both of them, especially their relationship. They began getting into fights over stupid things when they never used to fight before. After struggling through their first year apart Taylor was excited to have Jake home for the whole summer when she got a call. It was Jake and he had some bad news. The school had offered him a summer job working as a camp counselor mentoring young kids who wanted to play football. It was an opportunity he just couldn’t let by. Taylor said she understood of course but was secretly very upset. That summer they got into their biggest fight yet and decided it just wasn’t worth it anymore. The long distance thing was killing both of them and ruining their college experience. It was very tough on both of them but they knew it was for the better. Three years passed and Taylor and Jake both went through several different relationships. Neither of them forgot each other but they had moved on. After not talking or seeing each other for four years Taylor picked up the newspaper one morning and noticed a name she hadn’t heard in years. It was a wedding announcement. Her heart dropped as she read the names Jake Williamson and Emily Buckingham. She knew Jake wasn’t hers anymore but she never thought he would be marrying another girl. Immediately she knew he was making a huge mistake and she needed to stop him. Taylor had no clue where to find Jake except for this wedding that would be taking place the following week. This would be the hardest thing she’d ever done but Taylor realized now that she couldn’t lose Jake forever. She was still in love with him and she had to find out if he felt the same way. The week passed quickly and Taylor became more and more nervous as she drove to the church the wedding would be taking place at. She was watching the people file into the church and realized she didn’t belong here at all but she kept her courage up and knew what she had to do. As she hid in the back section of the church by the windows the wedding march began to play. All she could do was stare at Jake at the front of the church and pray she was doing the right thing. As the music stopped and the priest began to talk Taylor heard her cue: “..speak now or forever hold your peace..”. She stepped out from behind the curtains and began running down the aisle yelling “Stop! You’re making the biggest mistake of your life Jake!”

Fifteen Lyrics by Taylor Swift
You take a deep breath and you walk through the doors
It's the morning of your very first day
You say "Hi" to your friends you ain't seen in a while
Try and stay out of everybody's way
It's your freshman year and you're gonna be here
For the next four years in this town
Hoping one of those senior boys will wink at you and say
"You know I haven't seen you around, before"
'cause when you're fifteen and somebody tells you they love you
You're gonna believe them
And when you're fifteen
Feeling like there nothing to figure out
Well count to ten, take it in
This is life before you know who you're gonna be
Fifteen
Taylor is a young, nervous freshmen arriving at her first day of high school. Taylor sees some familiar faces and says hi to some old friends. Her new school has her feeling scared and excited. She tries to stay out of the way of all the students to make sure she isn’t made fun of or picked on. As Taylor is walking through the hallway she meets eyes with the football quarterback player who happens to be a senior. He winks at her and looks her up and down. Taylor is filled with excitement and instantly falls in love with the boy. She pictures them together forever and how exciting it will to date a senior. Taylor day dreams of being the most popular girl and having the best high school experience. When Taylor sees the senior boy in the hall the next day, she approaches him and says hi. He just stares at Taylor and tells her to get lost. Taylor is crushed, heart broken, and begins to cry. Taylor feels as though she will never love again and how the world could be so cruel.
If this song was turned into a movie I would cast Abigail Brislyn as Taylor(the nervous, love-struck freshmen) and I would cast Taylor Lautner as the senior quarterback player.

After a long day at school, Dave (the narrator/singer), comes home to get ready for his big date. He's been waiting on this since he woke up and wrote down a list of things to say to her during his classes, he couldnt stay focused with her on his mind all day. He thought she was too good for him, he was lucky to even get her to agree to a dinner date on a lousy Wednesday night. All this runs through his head while he tries to find his perfect outfit, not too dressy but not too casual- he doesnt want to look like he's trying too hard. He looks around the room for his cologne his mom got him when she said it would help him find a girl, his mom had always been trying to help him with relationships. As he walks into the bathroom searching around, he looks in the mirror and panics about what to do with his hair. Leave it messy and untouched, or fix it up with a hint of gel and take a blowdryer to it? He was at a loss, and when he checked his phone for the time, Dave was sure he was doomed. 7:00. He said he'd pick her up at 7:15, he had never rushed faster in his life. He hops into his dad's car that he let him borrow for the night, sprays on some cologne he found in the glove box and heads off. Before he knew it he was ringing her doorbell, popping in a last minute piece of gum. There she was, smiling and happy to see him. His heart raced and he stuttered a "Hey, you look a-a-amazing tonight."
To act out this scene, I would choose Jesse Eisenberg to play Dave, and Blake Lively to play his date.
CheaterCheaterBestFriendEater by NeverShoutNever
There was this boy who was very in love with his girlfriend. But then one day she told him that she had slept with his best friend last week. She really broke his heart by telling him this. The girl obviously did not know what she had until she lost it. She didn’t appreciate it because she didn’t realize what was right in front of her until it was gone because she gave it away. The girl didn’t think that the boy actually knew her but on the contrary the boy knew all about her type. He knew that she’s the type of girl that spends all day and night talking on her phone. He knows that she would feel bad after cheating on him but even after her texts and calls he doesn’t feel bad because she had just slept with his best friend. On top of it all the girl still has the nerve to say that it was entirely his fault that she cheated on him. The girl still continued to call him even though he still wasn’t answering his phone. The boy later realizes that he was being stupid and a fool by letting the girl in and taking control of his heart. The boy keeps telling himself that he knows about her type and he should have been more careful. He knows that she still feels sad but he won’t feel bad because no matter what she still slept with his best friend.
We're going to be friends- The White Stripes
The summer has come to a conclusion and everyone is enrolling back into school. There will be a young gentleman and a young lady returning back to school both beginning their first year in college. They walk together casually daily to class, throughout these casual walks to class they have many underlying daily adventures. Bother the girl and boy appreciate the smallest living creatures, people watch, observe and explain their thoughts on the most general things. As days pass, their ritual continues, coincidentally they also both have a few classes together. Unconsciously, they find themselves spending countless days together and without knowing it they slowly but surely fall in love. An elementary love, where nothing is forced and everything came naturally.
In this story I would have Rachel Mcadams plays the girl because she comes off as a beautiful and charming young woman all the while genuine, capable of sweeping any man off his feet. For the male role I would have Shia Labeouf play the role, this is because he has a homey country and welcoming look, he also seems genuine and very down to earth; the kind of guy that would become more attractive after a conversation.

http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858604626/
I had never felt this way before, staring into the eyes of my new car. The car was at least 20 years old, but to me it was all new. The feeling was new. The rectangular piece of plastic in my hand was new. My age was new. I was 16. I jerked open the door of the junker and nestled into the ragged leather seat on the driver’s side. I turned the ignition and just sat there for a moment listening to engine growl. I took one more look at the piece of plastic stating that I, yes I, Phoebe North, was now legally able to drive in the state of Connecticut. I lifted off the seat, slipped my license into my back pocket, and reached toward the radio. I couldn’t find a single station that came in clear, but that didn’t matter. A crackling Pink Floyd song hummed in the background as I placed my foot on the gas and rolled away down the street. I drove around for hours, just me and my newly acquired freedom. It didn’t matter that no one was in the passenger seat next to me. It didn’t matter that I had no destination. And it didn’t matter that my gas was almost at E. The only thing that mattered was that I could now drive and no one could take that away from me. This was going to be the best summer I have ever had. Is there any better feeling then to be sixteen in July? I doubt it.
“Fun, Fun, Fun” - The Beach Boys
In this song, a girl gets to drive her dad’s T-Bird around, supposedly forgetting that she had to go to the library for him. Instead she’s driving fast and having fun. My question is where did she actually go? Near the end of the song it says that she shouldn’t have lied. Obviously that means she was out doing something she wasn’t supposed to. I know it’s a little out there, but maybe she went to a party, lying to her dad, telling him she was going to the library. While she was at the party she might have had a few drinks, having fun with friends, without thinking about how she would have to be returning home soon. So she gets in her car, and on her way home she is pulled over by the police and is charged with a DUI. Her father found out because the police called him. Then, even though her license has already been revoked, her dad takes the car away from her. That might have been what really happened and the Beach Boys just lightened the mood of the whole situation… but who really knows? If I were to make a movie out of this, I would probably pick the Hilton family for the cast. Of course, Paris Hilton being cast as the fun loving, drunk driving teenager.

He was a boy, she was a girl
Can I make it anymore obvious?
He was a punk, she did ballet
What more can I say?
He wanted her, she'd never tell
secretly she wanted him as well.
But all of her friends stuck up there nose
they had a problem with his baggy clothes.
He was a skater boy, she said see ya later boy
he wasn't good enough for her
She had a pretty face, but her head was up in space
she needed to come back down to earth.
five years from now, she sits at home
feeding the baby
she's all alone
she turns on tv
guess who she sees
skater boy rockin' up MTV.
she calls up her friends, they already know
and they've all got tickets to see his show
she tags along and stands in the crowd
looks up at the man that she turned down.
He was a skater boy,she said see ya later boy
he wasn't good enough for her
now he's a super star
slamin' on his guitar
does your pretty face see what he's worth?
sorry girl but you missed out
well tuff luck that boys mine now
we are more than just good friends
this is how the story ends
too bad that you couldn't see
see that man that boy could be
there is more that meets the eye
I see the soul that is inside
He's just a boy, and i'm just a girl
can I make it anymore obvious?
we are in love, haven't you heard
how we rock each others world
I'm with the skater boy, I said see ya later boy
i'll be back stage after the show
i'll be at a studio
singing the song we wrote
about a girl you used to know
In this song Avril is a young, rambunctious, edgy girl who appears out of nowhere and sits in a couch and is talking about this boy that she knows. She tells that she is basically out of his league and forgets about him. Then once he becomes famous she remembers him and tries to talk to him again. Heartfully he agrees and they fall in love and write this song which she narrates.
If this was turned into a movie I would cast Avril (narrator to be Maryl Streep and the "Skater Boy" to be George Clooney

Taylor Swift-Picture To Burn
Ring, ring! Ring, ring!
“Hello?”
“Hi Nate its Taylor, we have to talk.”
“Sure baby what is it?”
“I know about you and Emily!”
“Uh, I can explain.”
“I’m sure you can’t, were over!”
“But baby, wait!”
Taylor hangs up the phone. Then looks down at the picture she is holding of her and Nate and tosses it into the fireplace.
Later that night Taylor goes over her best friend Abby’s house. She tells Abby about Nate and how he cheated on her. Abby could not believe that Nate would cheat on such a sweet girl like Taylor. Abby and Taylor stayed up all night talking about how much they hated boys and how they wished there was some way they could get back at Nate. After a whole night of thinking they finally figure out how they could get back at Nate. They were going to hide the old pickup truck that Nate never let Taylor drive. Taylor knew where he kept the spare keys and also knew when he had football practice.
So the next day when Nate was at football practice Taylor went over Nate’s house and because his mom did not know about the break up yet she let Taylor in. Taylor chatted with his mom for a few minutes, told her she needed to get something from Nate’s room, and got the spare key. Taylor waved bye to Nate’s mom with a smile. Once she got home she told Abby to come over and together they waited until it got dark for part two of their plan. That night they drove to Nate’s house and took his car to Abby’s house because he did not know where Abby lived. That morning when Nate woke up he noticed his car was missing and freaked out. He hitched a ride to school and figured he would deal with it when he got home.
When Nate was at football Taylor and Abby dropped the car back off before Nate could get the police involved. Taylor left him all of the pictures they had together but with burn marks all over them. When Nate got home from football he was happy but confused to see his car back. He went inside and found all the burnt pictures. He also noticed that his previously fuel gas tank was empty. Nate looked around and yelled furiously, “Taylor!” Taylor and Abby watched from a distance and laughed at Nate. Taylor knew that all Nate would ever be too her is just another picture to burn.

my story is a scene of taylor swift seeing a bad situaation that made her have trust issues and stuff like that. here are some of the lyrics to the song hat helped me make this scene.
"Flash forward, and we're takIn' on the world together
And there's a drawer of my thIngs at your place
You learn my secrets and fIgure out why I'm guarded
You say we'll never make my parents' mIstakes"
"Braced myself for the goodbye, cause that's all I've ever known
Then, you took me by surprIse
You saId, "I'll never leave you alone."
"You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter
You are the best thing that's ever been mine"
so here is my story of the background on the moment Taylor Swift witnessed as a child that mae her so scared to love.
Narrator: lIttle taylor Is fast asleep In her bed wIth not a care In the world. Shes dreamIng of prInce charmIng sweepIng her off her feet just lIke her dad dId wIth her mother. From a dIstance she hears somethIng
Dad: (dIstant voIce): no I don't love you. I stopped long ago.
Narrator: awoke fast from her dream enterIng the nIghtmare of realIty. she bolts out of bed and tIp toes to the door dazed and confused. she opens It so only her one eye can see outsIde It.

I chose American Pie by Don Mclean. Knowing the background of the song makes this somewhat hard. What I’m going to do is write what I imagine as I hear the song
Because of the fact that the song takes place over a few decades there are multiple scenes in this song, I’m only going to describe the verses, and not the chorus.
Verses 6 & 7:
The setting is a large palace and there is a crowded ballroom filled with people all trying to get a glance of the King and Queen, there is a Jester singing, in a very retro jacket that he barrowed from some fifties movie star. Then when the King wasn’t looking the Jester proceeded to steel his “Thorny Crown” ~ Reference to Jesus? ~
The next scene I see is still in the same verse but I see the Jester being held on trial for ‘stealing’ the Kings ‘thorny crown’ and a verdict was never returned. Right after that I see Lennon reading a book of Marx about communism and it’s benefits. There is a quartet practicing at a park under a gazebo. Then a group of people singing sad songs in a dark room filled with a depressing and melodramatic air.
Verses 8&9:
It’s a long hot summer day, and there is a never ending flock of birds filling the sky. Somewhere there is this bomb dropping fast, which lands on a football field and doesn’t explode. The next thing you know the Quarterback of the football team attempts a foreword pass but fails miserably. All the Jester can do is sit on the sideline and watch due to an injury.
Then the halftime show starts and the air seems to fill with “sweet perfume” of the marching band, so sweet that the people started to dance, but when they did, the football players tried to take the field but the marching band wouldn’t yield. Was anything revealed, “the day the music died?”
Verse 19:
There is a city in utter chaos little children were screaming, lovers were embracing each other crying, poets dreamed all without a word being spoken. Complete and totally silence, no noise of the city, no church bells ringing, nothing.
The next scene is on a train platform, with Three Beings walking down towards the train’s entrance and climbing aboard a train that takes off into the setting sun towards the ocean. Of those three people, there was a larger single person that they all made up. The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit, but they are only one when you’re not looking for it do you truly see them as one being.
American Pie by Don McLean
Verse 6:
Now for ten years we’ve been on our own
And moss grows fat on a rollin’ stone,
But that’s not how it used to be.
When the jester sang for the king and queen,
In a coat he borrowed from james dean
And a voice that came from you and me,
Verse 7:
Oh, and while the king was looking down,
The jester stole his thorny crown.
The courtroom was adjourned;
No verdict was returned.
And while lennon read a book of marx,
The quartet practiced in the park,
And we sang dirges in the dark
The day the music died.
Verse 8 & 9
Helter skelter in a summer swelter.
The birds flew off with a fallout shelter,
Eight miles high and falling fast.
It landed foul on the grass.
The players tried for a forward pass,
With the jester on the sidelines in a cast.
Now the half-time air was sweet perfume
While the sergeants played a marching tune.
We all got up to dance,
Oh, but we never got the chance!
`cause the players tried to take the field;
The marching band refused to yield.
Do you recall what was revealed
The day the music died?
Verse 19:
And in the streets: the children screamed,
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed.
But not a word was spoken;
The church bells all were broken.
And the three men I admire most:
The father, son, and the holy ghost,
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died.
Back to December- Taylor Swift
As I walked down the cold sidewalk to where he was I thought of all the things I had been keeping locked up inside of me. Today I was finally going to tell him everything I’ve wanted to say since that night back in December. As I walk, my surroundings become a blur as I am so preoccupied with everything that is filling my head. Sorry I know is not good enough, but I hope he can forgive me for everything. Each step closer I take to him the more anxious I become. Questions flood my mind- what will I say? Will he forgive me? My palms are sweaty and I know it is not because of the layers I have on. It is my nerves. I go back to the night in December all the time.
The tree coming up on my right reminds me that I am near. What should I say? I miss your tan skin, your sweet smile, how you were so good to me? No. None of it seems right. I flashback to how he held me in his arms one September night. That was the first time he ever saw me cry. The memories like that remind me of how he was always so good to me. I want him to see that I cherished every minute with him and always will. Maybe this is wishful thinking on my part. Probably mindless dreaming, but I know this is the right timing. One year to the day of that December night.
I see where he is now and my breath catches in my throat. I know I have to do this and I know that if I do not I will live my life with the regret of all the things I left unsaid. I need to tell him now so that he understands that I am truly sorry for everything that happened. I walk up to the spot he is at. I kneel down on the grass, not caring that my knees are going to be wet. As I look at the tombstone in front of me I read his name and the date of that devastating night in December that has haunted me since. I take a deep breath and say,
"So this is me swallowing my pride, standing in front of you saying I'm sorry for that night. I know this is a little late but it's been hard on me. I know the accident was not my fault but I can't help to question myself and wonder. A million what ifs go through my head all the time. What if I had been going slower or faster would I have avoided the other car. What if I went a different route, we would have been safe and you would be here with me right now. I go back to December all the time. All I do these days is miss you. All I remember from that night is seeing you laugh from the passenger side. I wish I had realized what I had when you were mine, now all I have are sleepless nights. I'd go back in time and change it but I can't. I know you are listening to me in heaven and I want you to know that not a day goes by where I do not think of you. You are always in my heart and I am truly sorry for the way everything turned out. I love you and will see you again."
After everything I had said I felt like a weight had just been lifted off my shoulders. A sudden breeze blew and I knew that he had heard me. I know that I can live my life and that he is always with me. Today will be stitched into my mind just as that December night a year ago. I go back to December all the time, but now for a different reason.

Meet Virginia- Train
She doesn't own a dress
Her hair is always a mess
You catch her stealin' she won't confess
She's beautiful
Smokes a pack a day, but wait, that's me, but anyway
She doesn't care a thing, about that hair
She thinks I'm beautiful
Meet Virginia
She never compromises, loves babies and surprises
Wears high heels when she exercises
Ain't that beautiful
Meet Virginia
Well she wants to be the queen
Then she thinks about her scene
Pulls her hair back as she screams
"I don't really wanna be queen"
Her daddy wrestles alligators
Mama works on carburetors
Her brother is a fine mediator
For the president
And here she is again on the phone
Just like me hates to be alone
We just like to sit at home
And rip on the president
Meet Virgina, I can't wait to
Meet Virginia, yeah, yeah, hey, hey
The man who sings this song cant wait to meet this woman. He describes her as stubborn, beautiful and confident. He finds this very attractive and is anticipating their meeting. So once he meets her he begins to fall in love. He loves her for her flaws and begins to accept it as part of her personality. Their relationship grows for the next few years, mostly with Virginia calling all the shots, but when the man proposes to her it throws her for a loop. They go through all the wedding preparations but on the day of their wedding Virginia leaves him at the alter, the commitment and responsibility of marriage scared her. Her over confidence and independence is threatened so she leaves him. He is traumatized but somehow saw this coming. It later taught him the influences that others have on his life, and eventually moves on and marries later in life but still wonders about Virginia.
Taylor Swift - Mine
You were in college, working part-time, waiting tables
Left a small town and never looked back
I was a flight risk, afraid of fallin'
Wondering why we bother with love, if it never lasts
I say, "Can you believe it?"
As we're lyin' on the couch
The moment, I can see it
Yes, yes, I can see it now
Do you remember, we were sittin' there, by the water?
You put your arm around me for the fist time
You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter
You are the best thing that's ever been mine
Flash forward, and we're takin' on the world together
And there's a drawer of my things at your place
You learn my secrets and figure out why I'm guarded
You say we'll never make my parents' mistakes
But we got bills to pay
We got nothin' figured out
When it was hard to take
Yes, yes
This is what I thought about:
Do you remember, we were sittin' there, by the water?
You put your arm around me for the fist time
You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter
You are the best thing that's ever been mine
Do you remember all the city lights on the water?
You saw me start to believe for the first time
You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter
You are the best thing that's ever been mine
Oh, oh, oh, oh
And I remember that fight, two-thirty AM
You said everything was slipping right out of our hands
I ran out, crying, and you followed me out into the street
Braced myself for the goodbye, cause that's all I've ever known
Then, you took me by surprise
You said, "I'll never leave you alone."
You said, "I remember how we felt, sitting by the water.
And every time I look at you, it's like the first time.
I fell in love with a careless man's careful daughter.
She is the best thing that's ever been mine."
You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter
You are the best thing that's ever been mine
Do you believe it?
We're gonna make it now
And I can see it
I can see it now
In this song Taylor is a guarded young girl who has issues of her own to work out. She comes across a boy who understands her and loves her for her. They spent time together and imagine a future and what it would be like. Yes, they would have things like "bills to pay" but she is completely satisfied because she has the person who loves her. They get into a fight at one point and she realizes that he won't leave her like she expected. Its clear that there is an underlying problem that has to do with her parents which is why she considers herself a "careless man's careful daughter". If I were to cast these characters for a movie I would choose Zac Effron as the protective college boy and Kristen Stewart as the guarded, careful young Taylor Swift.
Carry on my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more
Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
I was soaring ever higher
But I flew too high
Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I'm dreaming
I can hear them say
{Refrain
Masquerading as a man with a reason
My charade is the event of the season
And if I claim to be a wise man, well
It surely means that I don't know
On a stormy sea of moving emotion
Tossed about I'm like a ship on the ocean
I set a course for winds of fortune
But I hear the voices say
{Refrain
No!
Carry on, you will always remember
Carry on, nothing equals the splendor
The center lights around your vanity
But surely heaven waits for you
Carry on my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry (don't you cry no more)

A Little Bit Stronger by Sara Evans
This girl Jessica fell in love with this guy named Robert. They were in love from the moment they first met each other. Jessica knew he was the one for her, nothing could change her feelings. One day, Robert calls Jess and tells her he has moved on, he is done with her. She was extremely crushed. She never thought this day would actually come. Time goes by and each day she realizes a little bit more about herself, realizing she is a little bit stronger than she originally thought. Doing the normal things, getting up, going to work, somehow something always reminds her of him. Each time she made it through stronger than she originally was. Waking up each morning, feeling the pain every day, she puts the pain away and walks out the door with a smile on her face. She gets in her car, turns on the radio while she drives to work, hears their old song, and changes it immediately to keep his memory away. She soon realizes he will never change, and even though she will always love him because what that had was real, she will become a better person because of it, getting stronger everyday even when it hurts the most. As time goes by, she realizes she never cries, she never thinks about him. She is too busy living her own life and not worrying about what he is doing, or how he has been and every day, she gets a little bit stronger.
"Lightning Crashes"
lightning crashes, a new mother cries
her placenta falls to the floor
the angel opens her eyes
the confusion sets in
before the doctor can even close the door
lightning crashes, an old mother dies
her intentions fall to the floor
the angel closes her eyes
the confusion that was hers
belongs now, to the baby down the hall
oh now feel it comin' back again
like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind
forces pullin' from the center of the earth again
I can feel it.
lightning crashes, a new mother cries
this moment she's been waiting for
the angel opens her eyes
pale blue colored iris,
presents the circle
and puts the glory out to hide, hide
By Live
An old mother down the hall has spent her whole life dealing with the confusion that comes with it. The new baby down the hall from the old mother is now being brought into the world and being presented with all the confusion that comes with life. Birth and death are regular occurrences.
The old mother has lived and experienced many things; too many to think about. The old mother, nearing her end, begins to rethink her life and tries her best to remember. The confusion she is experiencing is what she had lived through. Soon enough there will be a newborn coming. The newborn will experience the confusion of life just as the old mother had. The circle of life repeats itself over and over.
Brief narration depicting the meaning of the song (old mother):
“My years have caught up to me. I look at my photo albums going back to my birth. There are too many spaces in time. There aren’t enough pictures to retell my story. The dates are written on the back of each photo, but what happened on those days where a picture didn’t record what happened. What happened…? What happened…? I can’t remember what happened. Is memory only used for the meaningful times? What about those everyday days? What happened then? Think! Think fast the end is coming. I know it! I’m prepared to leave. I want to remember everything but it’s impossible. I will always remember my first boyfriend’s name. I will always remember that snow storm junior year of high school. I will always remember the town I grew up in. I will always remember my high school graduation. Those things I can recall. Did I ever make a snowman in that snowstorm of my junior year? Did I ever cry at my high school graduation? Did my first boyfriend forget our one year anniversary? These things… detailed and precise; these things I can’t remember. I wish I could though. Death is a way of life. Someone else in many years will also be thinking of the same things on their deathbed. But right now another child is born and has a whole life ahead of them. Soon enough… it’ll be them."
Song: Piano Man by Billy Joel
Like the song Scenes from an Italian Restaurant, Billy Joel creates a wonderful story and vivid description of a place through song, which in this case, happens to be a bar. The whole song depicts four different scenes one might find at a bar on a Saturday night. The first of the four is pretty typical. The man he is sitting next to is probably a regular in the bar, very passionately enjoying his routine drinks; he could possibly be an alcoholic but no one really knows for sure. We do know is that he would like Billy to play him a song, a song that can bring him back to his childhood or another happy time in his life.
The next man, John, works at the bar, and doesn’t seem to like it very much. It’s a job that pays the bills, but he is not bad at it. He is a good friend of Bill and gets him what he wants while he is at the bar. John wants to get out of the bar scene, away from the same boring job, and pursue his acting career. However, it seems easier said than done; for now, John is stuck at the bar, waiting on customers and giving Bill his free drinks.
As the night goes on Bill notices more people in the bar. The next two are probably friends, or maybe they have just met for the first time. It appears they get along well, mainly because they seem to be in the same situation; they are both caught up in their work and do not have time to share their lives with a woman. In this same part of the night he notices a waitress and a businessman who appear to be having a conversation. Actually, the waitress is flirting and trying to make a move on the businessman. However, he is becoming drunker by the minute; most likely drinking away his problems. Either way, they both sit together and drink to their own problems.
Finally, the attention is now focused on himself. He notices the crowd and the manager is pleased to see him again. The manager feels relieved that he is there because knows the people in the bar will appreciate the music and make them feel good. Most of the people are drunk; it is very loud, and it all smells of alcohol. Nevertheless, they all give him tips for his entertainment. The performance means so much to them and appreciate his work that night at the bar.
If this were a movie, I would probably cast Colin Firth as Bill. The setting would be in a British Pub, most likely in London, in the present day.
You Belong With Me by Taylor Swift
This song is very descriptive and tells the story of how Taylor has a crush on one of her boyfriends who has a girlfriend already. Taylor sees a part of him that his girlfriend doesn’t understand and she feels she gets him better than anyone else. She knows his story from a different perspective and she likes him for every part of him, flaws and all. But this boy barely notices her as more than just a friend because she isn’t the head cheerleader or the gorgeous prom queen. She is just a plain Jane. So she is just waiting for him to get up and realize that she is perfect for him and has been there the whole time. He belongs with her and is blinded by it. When she is hanging out with just him, Taylor feels like this is how it should be all the time; just her and him. This other girl, when she’s around, seems to bring him down and he’s not himself when he is with her and Taylor is the only one who sees she is wrong for him. Taylor is on the sidelines dreaming and waiting for when he finds out that she is the one for him because they are so alike. She has always been there for him and what he is looking for is right in front of him.
If this were a movie I would cast:
Emma Stone as Taylor Swift- the plain Jane best friend to the guy she’s in love with that can’t notice she is perfect for him.
And Hayden Christensen as the boyfriend.
Jimmy Eat World, "The Middle"
Hey, don't write yourself off yet
It's only in your head you feel left out or looked down on.
Just try your best, try everything you can.
And don't you worry what they tell themselves when you're away.
It just takes some time, little girl you're in the middle of the ride.
Everything (everything) will be just fine, everything (everything) will be alright (alright).
Hey, you know they're all the same.
You know you're doing better on your own, so don't buy in.
Live right now.
Yeah, just be yourself.
It doesn't matter if it's good enough for someone else.
It just takes some time, little girl you're in the middle of the ride.
Everything (everything) will be just fine, everything (everything) will be alright (alright).
It just takes some time, little girl you're in the middle of the ride.
Everything (everything) will be just fine, everything (everything) will be alright (alright).
Hey, don't write yourself off yet.
It's only in your head you feel left out or looked down on.
Just do your best, do everything you can.
And don't you worry what the bitter hearts are gonna say.
It just takes some time, little girl you're in the middle of the ride.
Everything (everything) will be just fine, everything (everything) will be alright (alright).
It just takes some time, little girl you're in the middle of the ride.
Everything (everything) will be just fine, everything (everything) will be alright (alright).
I feel like this song would be great dialogue in a movie scene where a girl is getting advice from a friend or parent or boyfriend. It speaks from the heart and simply says to ignore what people think or say about you. To worry about being yourself and living everyday one day at a time. A lot of movies have scenes where there’s a heart to heart conversation so this could definitely fit into any movie.
Cats in the Cradle-Harry Chapin
My child arrived just the other day
He came to the world in the usual way
But there were planes to catch and bills to pay
He learned to walk while I was away
And he was talkin' 'fore I knew it, and as he grew
He'd say "I'm gonna be like you dad
You know I'm gonna be like you"
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home dad?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then
My son turned ten just the other day
He said, "Thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let's play
Can you teach me to throw", I said "Not today
I got a lot to do", he said, "That's ok"
And he walked away but his smile never dimmed
And said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah
You know I'm gonna be like him"
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then
Well, he came home from college just the other day
So much like a man I just had to say
"Son, I'm proud of you, can you sit for a while?"
He shook his head and said with a smile
"What I'd really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys
See you later, can I have them please?"
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then
I've long since retired, my son's moved away
I called him up just the other day
I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind"
He said, "I'd love to, Dad, if I can find the time
You see my new job's a hassle and kids have the flu
But it's sure nice talking to you, Dad
It's been sure nice talking to you"
And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me
He'd grown up just like me
My boy was just like me
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then
*told from the point of view of the father’s wife
“Hey dad, you wanna play hide and go seek or catch?”
“Not today Bran, I’ve got work to do”
“Okay, but can you play tomorrow?”
“Sure son.”
I stood there in the living room looking out of the open window, I saw Brandon’s face light up when he saw his dad walk out of the house. His face fell a little when he heard him say “not today” for what seemed like the thousandth time. He immediately asked him if they could play tomorrow, and his face lit up once again when he said “sure son.” I sighed knowing that this was just another empty promise just like all of the other times, I knew all too well that tomorrow he will say the same thing. The door opened and I knew that my son had come inside from playing.
“Dad can’t play today.” he said “He has work to do but he said that we’ll play tomorrow! You know what mom, when I grow up I wanna be just like dad!” He said smiling as he ran upstairs towards his room while I sighed again. He has never gotten a chance to bond with his dad, this is what he thinks a dad should do. I know that my husband is missing out on his chance and no matter what he is convinced that he is going to be like his dad, which sadly I think will happen.

Holiday in Spain: Counting Crows
“Got no place to go /but there's a girl waiting for me down in Mexico/ She's got a bottle of tequila, a bottle of gin/And if I bring a little music I can fit right in /We've got airplane rides/ We got California drowning out the window side /We've got big black cars /And we've got stories how we slept with all the movie stars /I may take a holiday in Spain /Leave my wings behind me /Drink my worries down the drain /And fly away to somewhere new /Hop on my choo-choo /I'll be your engine driver in a bunny suit /If you dress me up in pink and white /We may be just a little fuzzy 'bout it later tonight /She's my angel /She's a little better than the one that used to be with me /Cause she liked to scream at me /Man, it's a miracle that she's not living up in a tree /I may take a holiday in Spain /Leave my wings behind me /Drive this little girl insane /And fly away to someone new /Everybody's gone /They left the television screaming that the radio's on /Someone stole my shoes /But there's a couple of bananas and a bottle of booze /Oh, well happy new year's baby /We could probably fix it if we clean it up all day /Or we could simply pack our bags /And catch a plane to Barcelona 'cause this city's a drag /I may take a holiday in Spain /Leave my wings behind me /Flush my worries down the drain /And fly away to somewhere new /Take a holiday in Spain /Leave my wings behind me /Drive this little girl insane /Fly away to someone new /Fly away to someone new /Fly away to someone new”
My “must-have-song” on my ipod is “Holiday in Spain” by the Counting Crows. Whenever I hear this song it provides me with a miniature escape from life’s everyday burdens. The slow and carefree melody places me in a realm of relaxation. Ironically, my family and I also have traveled to Spain. The Counting Crows epitomized the country’s laid-back atmosphere in the words of their song and the carpe diem tone is refreshing. Although my family and I didn’t travel to Spain to “drink our worries down the drain” or meet up with a lover, we did venture off to Spain to leave daily stress at home and experience Spain’s culture. There, we explored the endless possibilities Spain could offer in the duration of our trip. We went every place you can imagine; including Barcelona, Madrid, Maliga, Marbella, Puerto Baῆus, Valencia, Cadiz, and Ronda. In the Spanish cities we danced, ate crazy foods, and went to a 300 year old restaurant with a wall of pig heads. While we were in the area, we managed to take a day trip to Africa. In Africa we saw snake charmers, road camels, and met a spice expert, who named my sisters and I the “spice girls”. The vacation brought more than just leisure and excitement, but also insight on the worlds different walks of life. Overall it was a great experience. “Holiday in Spain” brings forth the enjoyment I felt and reminds me of the worldview gained.
Change- Taylor Swift
"So we've been outnumbered, raided and now cornered
It's hard to fight when the fight ain't fair
We're getting stronger now from things they never found
They might be bigger but we're faster and never scared
You can walk away and say we don't need this
But there's something in your eyes says we can beat this
'Cause these things will change, can you feel it now?
These walls that they put up to hold us back will fall down
It's a revolution, the time will come for us to finally win
We'll sing hallelujah!
We'll sing hallelujah! Oh
Tonight we standed on our knees
To fight for what we worked for all these years
And the battle was long, it's the fight of our lives
Will we stand up champions tonight?
It was the night things changed, can you see it now?
These walls that they put up to hold us back fell down
It's a revolution, throw your hands up, 'cause we never gave in
We'll sing hallelujah!
We sang hallelujah!
Hallelujah!"
Scene: A tough, admirable football player gets in a terrible car accident and is paralyzed from the waist down. He gets hit with something bigger than he could’ve ever imagined. At first he wants to run- get away from it all because he feels defeated. “This fight ain’t fair” he says to himself. This is nothing he’s ever come across and knows he doesn’t need it. He feels as if he’s let everyone down. But what he doesn’t know is God has a plan for him- things will change for the better and he will get through this because he was built “to become stronger from things he never found- because he’s faster and never scared.” The battle is long, and it was the fight of his life. It was a revolution. The night that things changed- He stood up to be a champion, in the Special Olympics. The walls that were put up to hold him back- fell down. He threw his hands up because he never gave in. Hallelujah!
"She's in Love with the Boy" by Trisha Yearwood
Katie's sitting on the old front porch/Watching the chickens peck the ground/There ain't a whole lot going on tonight/In this one horse town/Over yonder, coming up the road/In a beat-up Chevy truck/Her boyfriend Tommy, he's laying on the horn/Splashing through the mud and the muck/Her daddy says, "he ain't worth a lick/When it came to brains, he got the short end of the stick"/But Katie's young and man she just don't care/She'd follow Tommy anywhere/She's in love with the boy/And even if they have to run away/She's gonna marry that boy someday/Katie and Tommy at the drive-in movie/Parked in the very last row/They're too busy holding on to one another/To even care about the show/But later on outside the Tastee Freeze/Tommy slips something on her hand/He says, "my high school ring will have to do/Till I can buy a wedding band"/Her daddy says, "he ain't worth a lick/When it came to brains, he got the short end of the stick"/But Katie's young and man she just don't care/She'd follow Tommy anywhere/She's in love with the boy/And even if they have to run away/She's gonna marry that boy someday/Her daddy's waiting up till half past twelve/When they come sneaking up the walk/He says, "young lady get on up to your room/While me and junior have a talk"/But Mama breaks in and says, "don't lose your temper/It wasn't very long ago/When you yourself was just a hay-seed plowboy/Who didn't have a row to hoe"/"My daddy said you wasn't worth a lick/When it came to brains, you had the short end of the stick/But he was wrong and honey you are too/Katie looks at Tommy like I still look at you"/What's meant to be will always find a way/She's gonna marry that boy someday/She's in love with the boy
It was one year after Tommy had proposed to Katie and he was waiting anxiously at the end of the isle waiting for Katie to progess down in her beautiful white gown. He thought about everything they had been through together, all the struggles they had managed to get passed in order to end up at that day. Tommy thought of Katie's dad telling him that he wasn't good enough for his daughter, but still trying his hardest to get her father's approval. He knew that he was in love with Katie and that Katie was in love with him. They were meant to be and he knew that he couldn't give up on Katie. He continued to thank Katie's mother every time he saw her, because he knew if it hadn't been for her, they wouldn't be getting married. The music started and Tommy's thoughts were focused on his beautiful bride-to-be walking down the isle to the wedding bells on her father's arm. He felt like the luckiest man in the world. It felt like hours that she was walking down the red carpeted isle, but finally she was in front of him. Tommy looked first at Katie who had the brightest smile on her face and then at her father who was smiling just as bright. As Katie let go of her father's arm he patted Tommy on the shoulder and whispered quietly, "You're a lucky man." Tommy knew at this point that the past didn't matter; it was finally accepted that they were in love. Her father knew that it was meant to be, that it had found its way. He could be happy, they could be happy together. They could have a wonderful future together in harmony with eachother and their families.
Just a dream
By Carrie Underwood
This is the scene where Jake tells Carrie about enlisting. Jake was a senior and Carrie was a junior in high school. They have been dating for a year and are the epitemy of High School sweat hearts.
Jake: “I have to tell you something.”
Carrie: “K whats up?”
Jake: “I have decided I want to joint the army.”
Carrie: “What!?!”
Jake: “I’ve already enlisted. You can’t talk me out of this.”
Carrie: “But we discusted this! You said you’d go to school and wait for me!”
Jake: “We can still be together!”
Carrie: “Nooo” sniffles “It’s not that same.”
Carrie turns to leave.
Jake: “Babe calm down! We talked about this.”
Carrie: “What’s there to talk about.”
Jake: “Don’t be unreasonable. You knew this was going to happen. I’ve always wanted to join the army.”
Carrie: “But I go want you to go!”
Jake: “Well I don’t have to leave until July that gives us three months.”
Carrie: “Then what?”
Jake: “Well you get to start your senior year and have the best time of your life. You won’t even notice I’m gone. And the training camps only an hour away so we can take turns visiting each other on weekends!”
Carrie: “You make it all sound so easy.”
Jake: “I know it will be work but we can do this!” He kneels down. “I love you and that is all that really matters. Will you marry me?”
