Sophs Journal #1: Your Favorite Work of Art--post before Tuesday, Sept. 8

What is your favorite work of art.
Please don't limit your definition of art, or your choice, to the "fine" arts, like painting. Please feel free to include the "pop" arts, like music, film, cartoons, or television.

You might want to use this post as a "warm up" or pre-writing to the final essay that is due Monday, September 14. However, you may choose to write about something else for the final essay, too.

Complete this blog/journal response before Tuesday, September 8, so I can post all of your classmates' responses for you to read.

Remember, in responding to blogs, you should first write your response in a Word document, save it, and then copy and paste it as a comment at Schoolsville. Eventually, I will collect all of your "blog/journal" responses at the end of each marking period as a graded assignment.

Be more succinct here than you will be in your essay--write a MINIMUM of 200 words (your essay should be 3-4 typed pages).

At Schoolsville, you probably want to respond to these questions:

1. What is your favorite work of art?

2. Give a brief description or overview of this work.

3. Why is this work your favorite? How does it make you "think" (appeal to your intellect) and/or "feel" (appeal to your emotions)? Briefly and specifically explain your answers.

To get an idea of how to respond properly to this blog, you may check out the archives for August 2013 and August 2014 and read some of the responses to this blog entry made by the Classes of 2016 and 2017.

The image that you're viewing is of Jamie Wyeth's Portrait of a Pig(currently on display at the Brandywine River Museum in Chadds Ford, PA), one of my personal favorite "works of art." I'll tell you a little about my choice in class some day soon.

The movie, "The Blind Side" by John Lee Hancock is my favorite work of art. The movie is based on a true story and it is about the professional football player, Michael Oher. It talks about all the difficulties he went through when he was younger. Later in the movie, the Tuohy family took care of him for a while and treated him like he was their own son and soon they adopted him. Michael was very strong but not very good at football but practiced really hard with S.J. (the youngest son of the Tuohy family). Michael Oher was offered scholarships to many colleges and universities, but he had to keep his grades up. At the end of the movie, it tells you about which college he chose to go to and then into his professional football career. I really liked this movie because of how it was a real story and I just felt that it was very inspiring. I felt like after watching this movie, anything was really possible, but you just have to work real hard for it. This movie was also emotional because of his past and with his mom and her drug addictions. "The Blind Side" is an inspirating movie in many different and unique ways.

Ever since I was a young girl I loved to read. My mom and I would read a book every night before I went to bed and sometimes I would convince her to read two. Back then books were just something fun to read and I believe they still are today. One of my favorite books is "Thirteen Reasons Why" by Jay Asher and it is one of the most magnificent pieces of art I have ever read. This novel is as thrilling as a rollercoaster, as suspenseful as a horror movie, and as mesmerizing as a television show. The book is about a teenage boy named Clay Jensen, who one day gets a box of numbered tapes at his doorstep. He was confused as to why the tapes were sent to him so he decided to watch them. Clay put in tape number one and figures out that the tapes were made by Hannah Baker. Hannah Baker was a girl that went to his school. Notice how I said was, well Hannah Baker was dead because she had committed suicide. These thirteen tapes sent to Clay were the main reasons why Hannah had killed herself. Before Hannah died she had decided to make a tape for each person who caused her to take away her own life. In the tapes it tells the stories of how that individual person had ruined her. The tapes are sent around town going to everyone on them for them to watch. And Clay comes to realize how he hurt Hannah so badly that she would kill herself. This amazing story makes me realize how important it is to be nice to others. It shows me to not take life for granted and it makes me think and care about everyone around me. "Thirteen Reasons Why" is my favorite work of art by far because it brings out all types of emotions from me like sadness, guilt, and many others. And remember, "You can't stop the future. You can't rewind the past. The only way to learn the secret... is to press play."

When I think of art I think of many different things; paintings, sculptures, dance, and one of my favorites, music. Music has literally been a part of my life since I was born. My parents have been exposing me to all different types of music since I was little, 90s alternative music, 80s hairbands, classic rock, country; things that they listened to and still continue to love. I personally tend to lean more towards listening to alternative and pop, and one of my all time favorite musicians is Ed Sheeran. He is a singer-songwriter who has been playing guitar since he was very young and released his first EP when he was only fourteen. As a singer-songwriter it is hard to define Ed Sheeran's music but he describes it as "acoustic soul with hip-hop influences." My favorite album of his is X. On X, he sings about everything from love to losing his grandfather to running away from his home and his responsibilities. I think one thing I like about his music is that he sings about many things and many different emotions. Not all of his songs are about love, or breakups, or partying. Each of his songs tells a story, and makes you think a little bit.

Ever since I was young, History has been my favorite subject in school. One place that truly personifies American History is none other than Colonial Williamsburg. Inside the Revolutionary City sits one of the most beautiful buildings in America, the Governor's Palace. This iconic landmark is truly my favorite work of art. The amazement, wonder, awe, beauty, and history is second to none of any place I have ever been. Before you step into this lovely mansion, you can not help but look at the famous gardens of the Governor's Palace. This elaborate garden is home to terraces, a canal, a holly maze, and innumerable number of different plants and flowers. After passing the iron gate atop with the royal statues of a lion and a unicorn you can only look up as the enormous facade of the house faces you. This Palace contains three stories complete with a bell and a weather vane. The grand foyer houses the most expensive granite floor in America at the time of the Revolution. You also see the most striking feature in the house: over 500 weapons line the wall including muskets, pistols, and swords fit for fighting. The house also has a few bedrooms including the master bedroom, a large dining hall, an eloquent ball room, a parlor, and the kitchen along with the servants quarters. As you can see, this house blends history and beauty all into one and that is my the Governor's Palace is my favorite work of art.

To me, art incorporates many genres; paintings, statues, sculptures, pictures, and nature. Throughout my life, my parents have been taking me to many amazing museums and estates. Over the summer, my family and I went to Thomas Jefferson's house, also known as Monticello, in Charlottesville, Virginia. Thomas Jefferson's estate captured my interest as soon as we arrived. Once we stepped into the mansion, I was taken aback by all of his beautiful portraits and paintings that I saw all around me. Monticello reflects Jefferson's many interests and innovations. His house contains priceless books, maps, scientific instruments, artwork, and personal items. Equally impressive are his botanical and vegetable gardens and plantation. I admired his beautiful flower beds, over 160 different species of trees, and stepped inside his greenhouse (the greenhouse was a perfectly situated spot for us to run into during a sudden downpour while on tour!). On our last stop, we paid our respects to Thomas Jefferson and his family at his grave. Interestingly enough, the epitaph Jefferson wrote himself, did not mention his presidency. It only included these words: "Author of the Declaration of American Independence, of the Statute of Virginia for Religious Freedom, and Father of the University of Virginia." Monticello truly incorporated "art" for everyone!

My favorite form of art is live theater. The first live show I ever saw was when I was 6 years old, and it was “Mamma Mia” on Broadway. I was instantly in love. I knew from the moment that the lead character, Sophie sang the song “I Have a Dream”, that live theater was what I wanted to do with my life, and Broadway is the ultimate goal. Since then I have been involved in over 20 shows, the parts I played varying from a member of the chorus in “The Little Mermaid”, to a Troll and Elf in “Snow Queen”, to playing Amaryllis in St.Mark’s production of “The Music Man” this past spring. In my opinion, there is no better feeling then when you are on stage performing and you can’t see anyone watching from the audience because the lights are so bright that the audience is completely black, but when you finish singing, dancing, or acting, or maybe doing all three, you can hear the applause of audience you can't see and if you're lucky you can hear chairs squeaking in the audience which means you're getting a standing ovation. Live theater and performing is a huge part of who I am and I can’t imagine my life without it. And to me thats what art is.

My favorite piece of art is the 1994 television show Friends. Created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman, this hilarious sitcom is based around six friends living in Manhattan. This show stars Jennifer Aniston (Rachel), Courteney Cox (Monica), Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe), Matt LeBlanc (Joey), Matthew Perry (Chandler), and David Schwimmer (Ross). Throughout all ten seasons, there are fights, marriages, divorces, family trouble, and many laughs. This television series is one of my favorites because it shows how strong friendships can be and how long they can last no matter how old you are. It also expresses such a strong feeling of love within every episode that you feel like you are best friends with every single one of the characters. Friends reminds me of not only my own friends and family, but my friends' families as well. We all fight and get upset with each other, but in the end it is only because we love one another and want the best for our loved ones. From Ross and Rachel's many breakups and Phoebe's oblivious nature, to Monica and Chandler handling married life and Joey hitting on girls at Central Perk, many people are able to relate to this show, no matter how old you are.

There are many magnificent works of art produced by many talented people. Art comes in a lot of different forms; paintings, dramas, books, poems, movies, etc. My favorite work of art is a book series called "The Selection" by Kiera Cass. "The Selection" takes place in the far future when the United States of America doesn't exist anymore. The nation is now called Illéa. Just like in older times, Illéa is ruled by a king and queen. In this time of the story, the prince is searching for a wife to become the princess of Illéa. In order for the prince to find his true love, the kingdom holds a 'selection'. Every girl in the right age group has a chance to enter but only thirty-five girls are selected to live at the palace to see who can win the prince's heart. The story is written in first person point of view, showing us the thoughts of a poor girl named America Sings who has been chosen to participate in the selection. This novel is my favorite because there are many themes to it. There is a great amount of romance between America and the prince, a lot of thrill and suspense as the kingdom undergoes many attacks from rebelling nations, and growing friendships between the girls who have been selected to win the prince's heart. "The Selection" is so well written; the descriptions of the palace make me feel like I'm there with everyone in the story. There are a lot of conflicts that make me think how the characters are going to act. For example, America heard that her friend Marley, another girl in the selection, was going to be executed for supposedly having an affair with one of the guards of the palace, but America risked her spot in the selection to stand up for her and tell everyone the truth. Most of the people didn't believe her, but standing up for Marley only got Marley sent home instead of executed. In conclusion, "The Selection" has taught me to always stay true to yourself and to always stand up for what you think is right.

Art can be expressed in many different ways including the expression through movies. My favorite work of art is the movie Romeo + Juliet, created by Baz Luhrmann. This movie is set in a modern city where two rival gangs, the Capulets and the Montagues, have a lifelong hatred toward each other. There are multiple street fights that result in the killing of many members in the gangs. A member from each of the gangs fall in love, Romeo from the Montagues and Juliet from the Capulets, and eventually marry in secret. In the end they both end up killing themselves because of a horrible confusion. The movie is set in a completely modern world that has luxuries such as cars and guns, but uses all of the dialogue from the original play, Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare. This work of art is my favorite because it mixes a modern lifestyle with a classic literature. The movie makes you realize that Shakespeare created a timeless love story that could have been set in any period of time and would have still moved the viewer in the same way. It makes you feel the sadness and remorse that Romeo and Juliet felt in their tragic love story.

Art does not have one set definition. It is possible to argue that anything is art. Some forms of art are paintings, movies, songs, and books. My favorite work of art is a book titled Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell. It is the epic love story of Park Sheridan, who is kind of an outsider, and Eleanor Douglas, who is even a bigger outsider. Park partially feels different because he is half Korean while the majority of the residents in Omaha, Nebraska, are strictly Caucasian. Park also has a strange obsession with music and comic books. Eleanor on the other hand, she posses bright red hair and tends to be found wearing men's clothes instead of women's. Park first saw Eleanor on the bus ride to school and allowed her to sit with him out of pity. Their form of interaction was silently reading Park's comic books on the way into school. They eventually began discussing the comic books with each other, sharing their thoughts about music, and holding hands on the bus. Throughout the course the book, the characters begin to open up and their struggles are made known. Eleanor suffers in poverty, is a victim of bullying at school, and also has to deal with an alcoholic stepfather who abuses her mother. Park feels that his love of music and comic books combined with his lack of interest in sports or other "manly" things makes it impossible for his father to accept him. With the help of one another they are learning to overcome their obstacles. I really enjoyed the reality of the plot combined with the uniqueness of the characters. I was hooked from the first paragraph. It taught me the importance of being kind to others and to be grateful for everything I have in my life. I also learned that It is okay to be different. While reading I found myself going from laughing to crying with the flip of a page. Rowell's Eleanor and Park is a phenomenal piece of literature and will continue to be favorite work of art for a very long time.

There are so many different types of art. Even so, if I could list all of my favorite pieces of art, then this paper would be extremely long and probably would never end. I'm one of those people who loves so many different things, and I could never choose a favorite song or other type of art. For this writing assignment, I'm picking the song Dirty Night Clowns by Chris Garneau. Garneau is definitely one of the top artists that I listen to mostly because he puts so much emotion into his songs, and sings about some of the most gruesome things. The song Dirty Night Clowns is about child molesters, or the Dirty Night Clowns, who would sneak into children's rooms and rape them. I believe the narrator was raped by them, hence the lyrics, "I will never be dirt free", this also shows how scarring the experience of being raped is. The narrator is wanting revenge for what the clowns did to him, the lyrics, "Let them be buried, buried alive In their suits, in their ties" give clue to this. Another disturbing lyric is "up the stairs come find me", this shows how gross and wrong the act of molestation is. The song has a rather cheerful carnival sound to it that makes the whole thing even more peculiar, and hints how innocent the children are. I absolutely adore this song and its message of how repulsive rapists are. The final thing that I love about this song is how "in your face" it is to society, and it shows how disgusting the world actually can be.

Whenever You think of art you think of many things: sculpting, writing, drama, drawing etc. When I think of Art I think of painting. Painting is very expressive and full of details, colors, and creativity. I enjoy looking at the many types of paintings from many different time periods. My Favorite Painting and work of art is The School of Athens by Raphael. Raphael was an Italian Renaissance painter who painted The School of Athens in 1511. It is considered his masterpiece and truly it is. The painting is set in Athens at Plato's Academy and has many depictions of great Greek philosophers like Aristotle, Plato, Pythagoras, Epricus, and many more. The painting blends many different colors, styles, techniques, and famous philosophers. I really like this painting because it makes me feel like I have traveled back in time to Ancient Greece and am getting a look at daily life and what goes on in the School of Athens. I have always admired how the School looks so realistic and how it feels like I am watching the philosophers at work. I also like how this painting is set in Ancient Greece because it is my favorite time period and topic to discuss in history. I have seen many different paintings but none have caught my attention as much as The School of Athens. This masterpiece is a classic and shows the many talents and techniques of the Renaissance artists. It will always remain as one of my favorite paintings.

When I think of art I think of passion and emotion. Art doesn't have to be a painting or symphony, I think it can be anything that makes you feel something. My favorite work of art is not as traditional as many forms, but it means something to me. Forest Gump, directed by Robert Zemeckis, is my favorite work of art and film. The first time I saw the movie Forest Gump, staring Tom Hanks, was this summer. Everyone has always told me how it was such a good movie, but I never go around to watching it. I know many people see this movie as just a good movie to watch, but if you really think about it; it is so much more. Forest had such a hard life, everyone doubted him as a child and though he was 'stupid', but he accomplished so much. The best part is Forest didn't even realize he was doing incredible things, he just wanted to do them for fun. Forest had such a big heart and was loyal to everyone he loved. He risked his life for Bubba without a second thought, he changed Lieutenant Dan's life, and waited for Jenny his whole life and loved her the whole time. The 1994 movie, Forest Gump showed me that no matter what anyone says, you choose who you want to be.

My favorite work of is the film Good Will Hunting, which I am really able to enjoy this film every time I watch it. Will Hunting (Matt Damon) is a boy genius who was severely abused as a child and has been in trouble with the law ever since. He has a genius level IQ but decides to work at one of the most prestigious universities in the world as a janitor. After solving a graduate level math problem with utter ease, Professor Lambeau (Stellar Skarsgard) decides to try and help young Will find his true potential. I was able to see this movie in the beginning of my freshman year, and have enjoyed watching it as much of I did the first time. After watching this movie, it makes me think about everyone deserving a second chance and no matter where your from, you deserve to follow true calling no matter where it takes you. Throughout the movie, Will is able to meet with therapist Sean Maguire (Robin Williams). After meeting with Mr. Maguire, Will is able to truly answers the questions within himself that could never be answered by reading a book. All in all, Good Will Hunting is an evoking story of a young man's struggle to find his place in the world by first finding out who he really is. This unpredictable and fascinating movie is able to help me truly learn something about myself which is why it is my favorite work of art.

When I think of art the first thing that comes to mind is music. Music has no exact definition. Music I believe is the most inspirational form of art. I believe this because of all the different types of music including everything from hard rock too contemporary sad music to extremely up beat. There truly is something for every one. My favorite artist is Tupac Shakur he grew up on the streets of New York and California. Living on the streets was hard for him at he fell deep into the streets such as selling drugs and getting into gangs. This wasn't the hardest part of his life. He said the hardest part was his mother that was addicted to hard drugs throughout his life. Another hardship he said he went through was not having a father figure in his life. He received his first break for rapping when he got into the rap group called Digital Underground. His first album "2Pacalypse Now” had three hits that set him apart from the rest of the group. His most famous album was “Me Against the World” this album went two times platinum. This album has my favorite song “Dear Mama”. In this song he talks about how his mom tried as hard as she could to raise somebody that already thought he was a man. He reminisces about when he was young having his mom come in late at night from her job to try and make them a hot meal. Tupac is my favorite rapper because of against all odds came out on top even after being shot five times he still came out on top and pursued his legacy of a career that is still prevalent to this day nineteen years after his tragic death.

"One ring to rule them all, one ring to find them, one ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them." This is a famous quote from my favorite author, J.R.R. Tolkien, who created the world of Middle Earth, my favorite work of art. The realm illustrates a story about races of easily corrupt men, wise elves, stubborn dwarves, and simple hobbits. They all must work together to destroy the master ring of Sauron and end his return of darkness and power. When I was small, I first discovered Tolkien's Lord of the Rings and its prequel, The Hobbit, from my parents and sister. People don't usually consider books to be artwork, but the realm of Middle Earth deserves nothing less than to be called a masterpiece. I fell in love with the original storyline and the diversity among the characters within the pages of the novels. Everything was so intricately designed, leaving no space for plot holes, like a great puzzle piecing together to create Tolkien's world. Even the six movies, directed by Peter Jackson, captured the tale and histories of Middle Earth just as well as the writings by Tolkien himself. Through years of hard work from thousands of production team members, actors, extras, and directors the films reached new heights of brilliance. Both of these men, J.R.R. Tolkien and Peter Jackson, are true artists in their creations. I like neither the books nor the film adaptations better than the other because I simply love the world of Middle Earth. That is the true work of art. The story and history was brought forth by the master writer Tolkien, but it was marvelously imagined and visualized by Jackson, who strung together an excellent series of movies. I can only hope that the realm of Middle Earth, full of elves, men, dwarves, orcs, and hobbits, can be enjoyed as much as I did while I was growing up.

When the word Art comes to mind many things come to my mind. Books, Paintings, Movies, Songs, and Dance are just a few. One of the best books I have ever read was the "Spectacular Now". I am not a big reader, but I could read this book over and over again. It started off with me seeing the movie and that was so good that I wanted to read the book, which was even better. It's not your average love story either. It shows the struggles that people go through during their high school years and the temptations that come along with high school. The main character is a 18 year old boy named Sutter a party boy who doesnt really have any motivation in his life. One day he comes across a girl named Amy, who i would say wouldnt be seen at the type of get togethers Sutter is at. She is a straight A student who is dreaming of going to the college of her dreams, but cant because her parents dont have that type of money. Amy and Sutter spark a connection very quickly and i guess you could say they didnt know they needed eachother until they met. This book is a rollercoaster of ups and downs in these twos lives. The author makes this book so intriguing because you dont know what types of things these kids can get into and you never want it to end. It might not be the book for everyone, but it definitely is the book for me.

Art can be displayed in numerous ways. It can be presented through: painting, filmography, photography, singing, and even dancing. My favorite work of art is a film or television series called, "That 70s Show". The series, "That 70s Show" is a period sitcom based in the late 1970s that follows the lives of a group of teens in a fictional town of Wisconsin. The show captures the experiences of these developing characters as they grasp what life is like in 1970s, United States. The show addresses many prominent events and themes of the seventies. Relevant social topics such as: Sexism, the economic hardships of the recession, and blue-collar workers suspicion of the American government are displayed and discussed in the show. Many guest stars, and references are often relative to the seventies, and even the episode names can be traced back to seventies pop culture. This production is my favorite work of art because the staff in charge managed to create, and bring to life a group of vivid characters who so accurately display what life was like in another time period. This piece of art helps me to acknowledge the complexity of every life and how each one affects another. The show also draws to attention how the society of a time can affect someone's life. The series makes me feel; sympathy, for when the characters undergo hardships; inspired, when a character is courageous; and of course; estatic, for when a character achieves a goal or dream. I favor this work of art because it expresses the life of a 70s teen and his or her family in the U.S.A.

My favorite work of art would have to be the enchanting Harry Potter novels by J. K. Rowling. These magical books tell the story of a kind-hearted boy who has felt out of place his entire life until he discovers the truth about his family and himself. He learns that he is a wizard, and not just any wizard, but a very famous one. These books portray a combination of diverse characteristics that make them so addicting for me. They show the love and strength of great friendship and adventure from start to finish, but they also show how power and greed can destroy a person. Magical fantasy is brought to life in these books though the use of wands, broomsticks, wizardry school, and spellbinding creatures. I think my favorite part about the Harry Potter serious is how J. K. Rowling manages to intertwine things that happen in the first book with things that happen in the very last. I have now read these books four times an every time I realize something new that really amazes me. Whenever I sit down with a Harry Potter book I find myself engrossed within minutes. They are a form of relaxation for me; a place that I can go to whenever I need to unwind.

While art is usually thought of as paintings that sell for millions of dollars, it can also be seen as the cinemas. My favorite work of art is the movie Forrest Gump starring Tom Hanks. The movie's main star is Forrest Gump, who was born with polio and is thought of to be retarded. Everybody picks on him except for one girl, Jenny Curran, who sees Forrest as a person. What is amazing is that he overcomes the Polio, and against all odds becomes an All-American football player for the University of Alabama. After this he goes to Vietnam where he earns the Congressional Medal of Honor, but loses his best friend Bubba. After he leaves the military, he starts a shrimping business and follows through on his promise to Bubba to give half the money to his family. When he reunites with his friend Jenny he realizes that she is not the woman he always dreamed of, and well, he started running. He spends 3 years running across the country. Finally he realizes he has to talk to Jenny about everything. Only to find out that he is the father to a son. After the first time I saw this film I just remember thinking to myself, "Wow, he truly lived the American dream". And, it also shows that a simple boy from the south can do anything he sets his mind to. In short this piece of art can be summed up like this, a hard working, loyal, simple, American man makes it in life against the odds.

To me their is no such thing as just one type of work of art. Everybody has their different views and feelings on how emotions can be displayed through art. Most people probably think that art is just a painting, picture, or sculpture, but art can also be displayed through music or theatrics. My all time favorite work of art is the television series "Friends." Although their were several people who helped with the writing of this show, the creators were David Crane and Marta Kauffman. This sitcom aired in 1994 and made it through ten seasons in eight years. In this show, it follows the lives of six 20-something year old friends who lived in Manhattan, New York. The main cast consisted of Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, and Matthew Perry. Their names in the show were Rachel Green(Aniston), Ross Geller(Schwimmer), Monica Geller(Cox), Joey Tribbiani(LeBlanc), Chandler Bing(Perry), and Phoebe Buffey(Kudrow). Throughout the eight years of this comedy, this group of friends go through family troubles, past and future romances, laughs, fights, tears, and break-ups. I love this show because even through Ross and Rachel's many break-ups, Phoebe's eccentric personality, Chandler and Monica trying to deal with twin babies and Joey and his habit of flirting with every girl he meets, it shows the love that they all have for one another through it all. This show makes you want to have these types of relationships with your family and friends as you go through life because in the end of it all, no matter what happened, this group of people showed what it meant to be true friends even in the worst of times. They stuck by each other's side through thick and thin. I have always been in love with this show and it will forever be my favorite work of art.

There are many different types of art in the world we live in, and out of all of them my favorite is probably movies. Movies I believe are better than all types of art because it is a combination of almost all type of art. For example in movies they have music, images, architecture, and they always tell a story like a book. I believe a movie is the easiest work of art to get engrossed in because it is not as confusing as an intricate painting, and you can grasp the whole story in one sitting unlike a book or a television series. Another interesting part of movies is the actors. A movie’s actors contribute to the quality of the movie very much. When a movie has a leading actor you like it will almost always be good to you but maybe not to others. Also movies are great because they can make your emotions fluctuate depending on what is going on in the movie. Lastly there is a kind of movie for anything that you are in the mood for at a given time. Although movies are less complicated than most other works of art, I believe they are just as interesting.

Art can be described as many ideas, from paintings to ideas written on paper. My favorite work of art is the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. I remember getting Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone for Christmas when I was seven. I was so nervous to read it because I thought it was going to be a really scary book, but as soon as I finished the first chapter I was hooked. This series is truly fantastic with all the fantastic magic, the exciting duels, and the surprising plot twists. The character development in this story flows well between books, like when Professor Severus Snape goes from a professor who hates Harry because of who his father is, to a spy for the villain Lord Voldemort, and finishes as a hero by keeping the promise to Harry's mother of keeping Harry safe. These books have taught me the message of love and friendship. The friendship bonds in these books are very realistic because they still have fights with each other and Ron even betrays Harry and Hermione at one point but it makes that bond even stronger. Love is also one of the main themes of these stories. Harry is saved from Voldemort because of his mother's love and sacrifice for him to survive. Severus protected Harry because of his love for Harry's mother. In the end these books have taught me important lessons that I will carry with me through my life. "Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light." -Albus Dumbledore

My favorite work of art is the song "Knives and Pens" by Black Veil Brides off their first record "We Stitch These Wombs". The meaning behind the songs is you have the power to choose between knives or pens. Using knives for destruction or pens for creation. The lyrics "with knives and pens we made our plight" Means you can define the outcome of a dangerous situation by taking the high road and turning the situation into something positive or be negative and only hurt yourself more. The lead singer of the band, Andy Biersack, inspires me to always follow my dreams and not let other peoples opinions stand in my way because you are in charge of your own future. The title comes from a line from the band Alkaline Trio's song "Over and Out". Growing up Alkaline trio was Andy's biggest inspiration and favorite band. He followed his dream and is now an inspiration to kids like himself as the lead singer of Alkaline Trio, Matt Skiba, was to him This is my favorite piece of art because anytime I hear this song it instantly puts me in a good mood and inspires me.

My Favorite Work of Art

I see art in many different things. In fact, I see art in everything. In my opinion, anything that interests you or someone else is art. My favorite piece of art is the movie Chasing Mavericks. It is based off of a true story. The movie is about a young boy who has a dream of surfing the biggest wave known to man. This film is one of the most inspiring stories I have ever heard. It teaches you to do anything and everything to get what you want and where you want to be. It proves that no matter how many obstacles are in your way, if you set your mind to it, absolutely everything is possible. I love this movie because it has so much positivity and inspiration within it. It is an amazing piece of art.

My favorite work of art is a book titled "The Outsiders". The author of this book is S. E. Hinton, and she wrote it while she was still in high school. The story is told in first person, through eyes of a kid named Ponyboy. The book talks about two rival groups who are separated by social class, their names are the Greasers and the Socs. Ponyboy is a young member of the Greasers, and in the book, he and a fellow Greaser named Johnny, get into a fight with some Socs. The fight results in the death of a Soc named Bob, so Johnny and Ponyboy go into hiding. After a while, Johnny, the one who killed Bob, decides to turn himself in. On their way back home there is a fire and so the boys try to help. Johnny gets injured from this and then later dies from his injuries. When the boys get back, there is a huge brawl between the rival groups, and by the end of the book, more lives are lost due to the way things have played out. The reason I like this book so much is because it is very real. The book talks about the differences in society which exist in our own world. I also like this book because one of its themes is loyalty and friendship, throughout the entire book you see the friendships that are there and the loyalty that these people have for each other. It is just a good book all-around.

Art is not limited to only paintings that hang in museums. I have come to realize that television shows, movies, and books can be considered art as well. My favorite work of art is the animated television show Avatar: The Last Airbender. In the show, there are four nations at war: the Fire Nation, Earth Kingdom, Water Tribe, and Air Nomads. One hundred years ago the Fire Nation wiped out the Air Nomads and invaded the Earth Kingdom. In this world, some people in the different populations have the ability to "bend" the elements of their specific people; either air, water, earth, or fire. However, there is one person who can bend all four of the elements, called the Avatar. The Water Tribe siblings, Sokka and Katara, discovered Aang, the Avatar, frozen in an iceberg for 100 years. This show follows their adventures as Aang learns to bend all the elements and defeat the fire nation. Avatar is a show that I have watched since I was eleven years old. It is incredibly well-written with an complex plot and even more well developed characters. The show deals with many interesting and thought provoking topics such as revenge, forgiveness, hope, and honor. After watching the show over and over again, I still get caught up in the action and think about many of the themes and how they affect my life. Even though Avatar: The Last Airbender is not considered fine art, it is a masterpiece to me.

My favorite piece of art at this time would the song, but mostly the video All I Want, by the band Kodaline.  The video was raved about so immensely that they made a sequel to it called ‘All I Want Part 2’. All I Want is a slow song and in the first video is matched with the story of an unfortunate looking man and a coworker. The man was born with the face of a gargoyle and falls for his beautiful coequal. As seen in the video, the thoughtful man is harshly bullied by his associates consistently and even is partly harassed by his love. The video shows his life alone with his dog in peace but it changes when his peers start to sexually coerce his love. This obviously makes him angry and he fights off the men. While walking the women one they get to know each other and the video ends with her kissing him on the cheek. This video shows the importance of treating everyone kindly and not to juggle bad on the appearance of a human or creature. The video only compliments to song which by listening to the lyrics each person will take out something different.

Throughout my life, I have been exposed to many different forms of art that have affected me in many different ways. From books, to paintings, to songs, each has shaped me into who I am today. Recently, I watched the two Kill Bill movies both directed by Quentin Tarantino and ever since I've been able to think of nothing else. The movies' acting, camera angles, music, and costume design create such an atmospheric setting that it's hard not to become completely invested in it. The Kill Bill series revolves around a woman simply known as "The Bride" and her journey of revenge to kill the four members of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad (who she formerly belonged to) and its leader Bill after they interrupted her wedding rehearsal and murdered the entire wedding party and beat and shot The Bride in the head. Both movies explore how far The Bride will go to get her revenge and how she won't let anything stop her, even death. There are multiple times in the movies where she should have been killed but still manages to survive like being shot in her head, stabbed through her chest, and even buried alive. Even though The Bride's journey to get her revenge seemed almost impossible, she still manages to have a happy ending and be reunited with her daughter who she thought was also killed on the day of the wedding rehearsal. The Kill Bill movies are the best pieces of art that I have seen in a very long time. They are influential, investing, and are all around perfect movies.

My favorite work of art is the movie Wolf on Wall Street starring a tremendous actor, Leonardo DiCaprio. This movie shows the timeline of a money-craving, and inspiring young man who seeks to make his fortune within the stock market industry. He starts as a homely, respectful stockbroker who wants to make a solid living with his wife in New York. After early exposure to a stock man's dream; penny stocks; he learns how to maneuver and manipulate stocks in a way where he could eventually make around a million dollars a week. Although this movie is very well put together, I also believe that it develops a fantastic message. The constant referrals to drugs and alcohol may give the movie a negative connotation in some people's eyes, but it develops a much greater message. It shows that even though money can help one's lifestyle, it can ruin a person's values and eventually ruin their life. For example, Jordan threw a huge party at his house which led to him meeting a woman who he would later have an affair with. Throughout these affairs he also had extreme addiction problems when dealing with drugs and alcohol. Also, this drug use led him to create severe damage to a neighbor's property and he was thrown in jail. However, I do believe this movie shows a direct and impactful message. This movie animates how one man can completely change his life through hard work and natural intelligence. He went from living in terrible quality condominiums, to living a penthouse lifestyle with many financial perks. All in all, this movie is one of my favorites. I could watch it over and over again and it would still be fascinating. It sends many messages while entertaining the viewer which, in my opinion, makes an incredible piece of art.

Art is a way of portraying our feelings in a way that can be expressed to others. My favorite work of art would be all of the Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling. Rowling, specially known for these books, made a piece of art that soon after creation would be known worldwide. These books are very special because they let the readers live in a world where there are regular people, muggles, and wizards. The concept of people with special powers makes anyone get excited and wish for the to be them. These books are so well written that when you read them, you will feel as if you are one of the characters. As a whole, the books lack many problematic issues. There are only a few and you need to look keenly to spot them. Rowling made a masterpiece that creates a hope for ourselves to be a "wizard" and live in this world with Harry Potter, his friends, and his enemies. For myself and my younger sister, these books will always mean a lot to us because they were a gift from my grandmother, previous to her passing. Although they have that meaning to us, they also are just very well written and very touching books. They really grab at your emotions. Even after reading the books many times and watching all of the movies twice, I still get broken up when the characters I feel emotionally connected to die. Not too many pieces of art really connect to me or make me think about them often. My little sister comes to me and asks me if we can go read Harry Potter or sit and watch the movies and no matter the time, my work I have to do, or how many times I have been through this, I can't stop myself from ignoring her requests and not obliging.

My favorite type of art is movies. I've always loved movies whether it was renting from blockbuster or pulling up Netflix, going to the theater, or just simply watching a movie I found on TV. I love how the stories are always told in such a creative way. My favorite movie is The Fault in Our Stars, based on the book by John Green. I enjoyed the book, but I liked the movie more mostly because I loved seeing the characters and the story brought to life. This movie is a love story about a girl named Hazel who has thyroid cancer who meets a boy, Augustus Waters, who had osteosarcoma that caused him to lose his leg. They meet at a support group where Augustus is there for moral support for his friend Isaac, who is going blind. When Hazel and Augustus meet there is a spark between them where were not sure if its romance or dislike. They spend time together and learn a lot from each other. Hazel and Gus do many things together such as reading each other’s favorite books and going on spontaneous dates. They also travel to Amsterdam together to visit Hazel’s favorite author who turns out to be an incredible jerk. Despite this disappointment, they have an amazing time just being together. Later on their trip, Gus reveals to Hazel that his doctors found a reoccurrence of his cancer. Given the type of cancer he has, they both know that is almost surely fatal. The news upsets Hazel tremendously and despite her grief, she is driven to make every remaining moment with Gus special. When they return from their trip, Gus asks Hazel and Isaac to write eulogies so Gus can be alive to hear them. In Hazel’s eulogy, she talks about how thankful she is for the amazing time she spent with Gus and for everything he has taught her. Gus dies shortly after this scene and Hazel finds out that Gus wrote a eulogy for her too and the movie ends with her reading it. This movie is my favorite because although it made me cry, it wasn't supposed to be sad movie about cancer. It was meant to be a beautiful love story with the message of living every day to the fullest. This made me feel inspired to do just that. It makes mewant to make every moment and day count because you never know when it's going to end.

There are many different forms and types of art work that can be found in all things. My favorite form of art work is photography. What I love the most about it is the essence of the moment that it captures. Within photography, there are many genres in which pictures are categorized. My favorite of these genres is nature. Within the genre of nature, there are so many different categories. My favorite category is portraits of the different types of flowers and plants. With any form of photography, angles and stability of the camera make a picture look its best. I love the most how a picture can capture the delicacy of flowers. One of my favorite pictures is a photograph of a rose bush that I took. I love how in this picture it captures the essence of hard and soft. The flowers of the rose bush capture the softness of the petals and the pure beauty of them. But the thorns of the rose bush are like the armor of the beautiful roses to protect them. The best thing about photography is that as the photographer, I get to choose the focus of the picture. I choose if I want the focus to be on one rose close up, or to be focused on a bundle of roses on the bush. Although this passion of mine is a hobby for right now, I wonder what it will bring for the future.

Art is expressed in various amount of forms. Each form brings out a different aspect of the true meaning of art. A piece of art that stands out to me is a particular song. This song, holds a special place in my heart. Written in 2012 by Justin Bieber, the song Believe is the focus message of his album, Believe, and concluding song in the album. He wrote it in a time of need for positivity in which he was in a bad place. It talks about his journey and how if it weren't for his fans, he would not be where he is today. There are so many people in this world that try to bring him down. They talk badly about him, spread rumors, and insult him with such cruel words. In this song he rises above all of this hate and tells us we can do anything we wish to do in life if we believe in ourselves, and each other. I feel that although Believe is just a song from a famous guy to most people, to me it touches my emotions and views in life for a handful of reasons. It is the most played song on my playlist and I always turn to it when I feel down or out of place. I feel for him and connect through his words. This song is truly full of love and passion and I feel that is exactly what art is and is supposed to be.

One of my favorite works of art is the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas. It was directed by Henry Selick and based on a poem written by Tim Burton. This movie focuses on Jack Skellington, a tall skeleton living in "Halloweentown", a town dedicated to preparing for Halloween. He is the best in the town at making Halloween what we know it as, which is scary and spooky, but recently, he has been feeling stuck in a rut and wants something new. After he comes across Christmastown, he brings the idea of Christmas back to Halloweentown so that they can try to recreate Christmas their way. I love this movie for many reasons. Halloween and Christmas are my two favorite holidays and this movie ties them together in such a creative way. The movie is done in stop motion which I have always liked very much. The animation is very well put together and seems almost like a regularly animated cartoon. There is a lot of detail put into every scene. Every time I watch it I can find something that I didn't notice before. A big reason why I love this movie is because it has many songs in it that I love to sing along to. I never get tired of them. I have loved this movie since I was very young and continue to love it to this day. I always feel very happy when I watch this and it never fails to improve my mood. This is a classic movie and that I will watch for years to come.

My favorite work of art is the movie, "Remember The Titans." This movie was written by Gregory Allen Howard on September 29, 2000. "Remember The Titans" was based upon a true story about a football team who had to overcome their differences with race to become the winning undefeated team they were. At the beginning of the movie almost no one knew each other but had to quickly begin learning who their roommates are and facts about them and their families. During their many practices, the coach, Hermon Boone, would take the whole team on a hike to explore the schools surroundings, including a trip to Gettysburg memorial were over fifty thousand people died fighting the same fight they were still fighting today, segregation. The reason i enjoy this movie is because it is based upon a true story and it showed how people fought to get their rights just like everyone else. It showed how people who were complete nobodies, became their state champions going undefeated not losing to a single team.

Art comes in many different forms, buy my favorite work of art is the movie “The Wedding Singer”. The movie’s main character, Robbie Hart, is played by Adam Sandler. Robbie works as a wedding singer and is paid to sing at weddings. One of the servers, who is played by Drew Barrymore, Julia meets Robbie outside and they become friends. When the day of Robbie’s wedding finally comes, he is left standing at the altar by himself. After being dumped on his wedding day Robbie becomes depressed and does bad performances at some of the weddings. He helps Julia to continue planning her wedding. One day while Robbie and Julia are planning they kiss. In the end Julia and her fiancé are on a plane and Robbie realizes he loves Julia. He gets tickets to be on the same plane as Julia and sings a song to her. Finally it ends with Robbie and Julia getting married. This movie is my favorite work of art because I laugh whenever I watch it. If I am feeling upset and want to cheer myself up somehow, this movie always does the trick. Although art comes in a variety of forms, I like this movie because it is so easy to relax and get a good laugh out of.

My favorite work of art is the television show Grey's Anatomy. It shows many different aspects of life such as success, heartbreak, tragedy, and love. The main character, Meredith Grey, starts off the show as a young surgical intern. Her mother was a very prestigious surgeon who had won some of the best awards and had completed many very difficult surgical tasks. Meredith has to learn to live up to her mother's expectations, also while balancing her social life. Meredith falls in love with the surgical chief of neurosurgery, which is constantly creating new scenarios. Her closest friends are Christina Yang, Alex Karev, Izzie Stevens, and George O'Malley. The drama between them is never ending, such as when Izzie Stevens falls in love with a patient and cuts his wires to make him higher on the transplant list. Every situation in this series is very well thought out and has beautiful music accompanying it. Even in the saddest of scenes, the writers of this show thought of the perfect things for the characters to say. The series is still going strong, but many of the characters have died in the show. Watching the characters die is very sad because you feel like you know them personally. The way the writers portray the deaths is very dramatic and at most times unexpected. This show can make you feel happy and glad, or very sad.

One of my personal favorite works of art is the movie titled "Straight Outta Compton." This movie came out on August 14, 2015 and was rated one of the best movies of 2015. It follows the hip hop/rap group N.W.A around as they rise to fame in one of the most dangerous cities in the United States, Compton, CA. Little did they know, that they would change the whole genre of rap music forever. I like this movie because it has every aspect of a great movie and is very accurate in how it was directed. There is violence, humor, horror, and so much more. N.W.A is a group of five African American men (Ice Cube, Eazy E, Dr. Dre, DJ Yella, and MC Ren) who are struggling to make money in their everyday lives. After they noticed that Ice Cube has a unique and rhythmic talent, they decide to put some money into the music. After many successes and hardships, they made their way to the top of the charts with their first studio album "Straight Outta Compton." But after issues with the manager, Jerry Heller, and other money problems, Ice Cube left the group and N.W.A fell apart. The founder and rapper Eazy E tried to get the group back together but his diagnosis of aids interrupted that. This work of art makes me think about how hard it must have been to grow up in Compton and actually turn your life into a success. That is why "Straight Outta Compton" is my favorite work of art.

What appropriately fits under the category of art varies from person to person. Some say art needs a message or that it needs an explanation. I believe that art simply needs to evoke a feeling in you. One of my favorite pieces of art is the T.V. show "The Office". It's a comedy series my family and I enjoy, never tiring of it's charm. It makes me feel many emotions connected to humor and love alike. I was introduced to the show by a friend and was drawn in by the antics of the quirky characters and their life stories. After getting a few seasons in, my dad showed interest in it and began watching the show himself. Once we started watching it together, my sister and mother eventually joined in. Now watching "The Office" together is a favorite family past time. We've bonded while spending the time together and through the humor on the show. Watching "The Office" by myself now reminds me of home and family fun. I'm glad I have this experience with "The Office" in order for me to call it my favorite work.

Works of art can be many different things, such as, songs, movies, portraits, and even dances. My favorite work of art is actually a movie called “Grease”. This musical movie takes place in a high school called Rydell in 1959, where there are many diverse social groups. The movie follows the two main characters, Sandra “Sandy” Dee and Danny Zuko as they deal with the social roller coaster of being teenagers. Sandy is a brand new student at Rydell and conservative, while Danny is a relaxed person who is very popular and in the past hasn’t cared about people’s feelings. They met over the summer and didn’t think that they would ever see each other again. When Sandy arrives, at Rydell she is shocked to see that Danny goes to school there and that he would treat her so differently in that setting compared to their summertime at the beach. Sandy becomes friends with the Pink Ladies, which is the popular girl group that is allowed to date the T-Birds. Meanwhile Danny is a T-Bird. By the end of the movie they both come to realize that being different can sometimes be a good thing. Sandy wears more carefree clothes, while Danny letters in Track to show that they value and respect each other’s differences. This movie makes me feel many different emotions throughout it. Towards the beginning of the movie it makes me feel annoyed and sad that Danny could be such a jerk to Sandy after having spent a whole summer with her. Then towards the end it makes me feel happy and full of joy that they finally figure out that relationships are all about give and take.

My favorite work of art is a movie called "Remember the Titans".  One of the reasons why that "Remember the Titans" is my favorite work of art is that it was based upon a true story. This movie is about a desegregated high school that hires a black head coach, Herman Boone (Denzel Washington), to their football team. Coach Boone then tries to bring his black and white football team together even though the rest of the city disproves. This movies shows a lot of pride especially Boone. When Boone moved to the white neighborhood to take the head coach positioned he faces a lot of detest and opposition. After all that detest and people wanting him to leave, he still has his pride and does what he has to do for his football team. Another instance of having pride is when the team started to except each other as the same while the rest of the city disproves of it. They still excepted each other and saw blacks the same as whites. They judged people of their personality not the color of their skin. When watching this movie it really touched me by showing me their unity even through difficult odds. "Remember the Titans" is an inspiring movie in many unique ways.

My favorite work of art is the song "Colors" by Halsey. I like this song because of Halsey's frequent use of metaphors. The most common type of metaphor she uses in this song is color. This song bears a strong resemblance to Taylor Swift's song "Red". Both songs use colors to describe people, emotions, moods, or personalities. The song's chorus talks about a man and describes him as being blue and grey. These colors give off a feeling of sadness or emptiness. Halsey says she is "covered in the colors" meaning that the "colors" or feelings of the man are affecting her. Also in the song are mentions of pills and smoke, leading me to believe that maybe the blue and grey colors of the man come from his smoking or drug use. Halsey's use of metaphors makes me think about the song more and helps me appreciate the thought and emotion that she put into "Colors". Halsey sings a song about how someone, possibly herself, is falling apart. They are described as "blue" and "grey" yet also "devoid of color". She also uses phrases like "you're dripping like a saturated sunrise" and "you're ripped at every edge but you're a masterpiece" to hint at the fact that maybe her or the man she mentions is still beautiful even as they fall apart. I think this is an important point to make because I think everyone can relate that to their own life, or even someone else's. The song has a pretty deep meaning yet Halsey sings it in such a way that she makes it all seem beautiful, like even as someone is falling apart before our eyes, nothing can take away from their beauty.

Art can be described as the expression of human creative skill and imagination. There are many different forms of art, which include: paintings, television, sculpture, movies, music, acting, and dancing. Being artistic means that you have the capability to express yourself in a way that you feel confident and unique. Although I love to dance my favorite art form would be the television series "Gilmore Girls" directed by Amy Sherman-Palladino. The characters Rory and Lorelei Gilmore are strong, courageous, and outgoing women who live in a small town. They understand what hard work is and they model that in the television series. This show has taught me many valuable life lessons that can give me guidance in my future. Lorelei and Rory's mother-daughter friendship is truly rare in today's society. It is inspiring to see a mother understand her daughter with such sincere love and deep perspective. "Gilmore Girls" has taught me to value relationships and respect every person who comes into my life. In the show, Lorelei tells her daughter that it's alright to work hard and take every opportunity life gives you. "Gilmore Girls" has taught me that struggling is okay, but it's how we recover from hard times that define us as a person. Everyone can strive in life, and expressing your personality can push you to become better.

My favorite work of art would have to be the book "A fault in Our Stars". It's a page turner for sure. The passionate love story between a young teenage girl with breathing problems and a teenage boy with an amputated leg, and later to be found with cancer, find themselves falling in love with each other. They're unbreakable bond began at a group therapy meeting for people with all sorts of disabilities. From the moment they set eyes on each other, they both instantly felt a spark. And from there it only grew stronger. I like this story because it teaches us to look passed the outside and to love someone for who they are on the inside. Loving someone for looks is not the way to go. Their love story is so spontaneous, it almost makes me wonder why I don't live life the way they do. They both have physical problems but always seem to stay positive and strong willed. People always take their life for granted not knowing that at any given moment it could easily be taken from them. "A fault in Our Stars" makes me realize that I should live every day as if it were my last, and to love everyone as if it were the last time I'm seeing them. The way we choose to look at life is our decision. We can either make it a miserable experience or a delightful one.

Every person has their own definition of the word art. I am a huge fan of old rap/ hip-hop music and movies, so I chose to write about the newly released movie Straight Outta Compton. This film is a wonderful combination of drama and music, specifically rap/ hip-hop music of the 90's and the group N.W.A. Straight Outta Compton, which released in August 2015 is already being considered one of the best films of all time. The film is about a group of five strong-willed young African American men that grow up in poverty in the worst area of California that overcome all odds to become successful. The three main characters in the movie are: O'Shea Jackson, better known by his stage name Ice Cube, played by his almost identical son O'Shea Jackson Jr., Group leader Easy-E, and the musical mastermind Dr. Dre. Although casting was based more on the actors rapping ability, on stage personality, and believability these men are almost identical forms of the N.W.A. The Notorious legacy of the group and their downfall is one most want to remember and some try to forget. Their run- ins with the police and government were depicted in the story and really speaks to what has gone on with police and African American youth men today. Known as the World's Most Dangerous Group, their music and their story is one that will never be forgotten.

Art has many different forms such as paintings, movies, plays, music, and many more things. My favorite type of art is music, but my favorite genre of music is EDM (electric dance music). EDM is also known as dance music, techno, or just electric. Narrowing it down to one favorite song is almost impossible because there are so many amazing ones out there. Electric dance music is a set of percussive music genres produced by DJs. Artists that I really like to listen to are ODESZA, DJ snake, Avicii, and Major Lazer. It became popular in the 1990's and is usually the type of music played at most music festivals and raves today. EDM is a favorite of mine because it's a feel good kind of music. Listening to it automatically puts me in a better mood and I could listen to it all day. It makes me think about how many different sounds, instruments, and vocals there are and how putting them all together can create such unique and beautiful music. Hearing an incredible EDM song makes me feel happy. I really like this type of music because of how unique every song is. Each song is truly its own work of art.

My favorite work of art is the movie Inception directed by Christopher Nolan. This movie is difficult for some to follow, though, but it has an interesting and inspiring theme if you can understand it. This movie is about a man named Dominick Cobb who can manipulate dreams of his own and also of others. Progressing through the movie, he finds others who have this same 'power'. Their main goal is to use others' dreams to change decisions on things that will change the future. The central theme of this movie is that everyone is wrapped around their own lies or mistakes and are determined to finish their task(s) without being distracted by these obstacles. One example of this is when Dominick Cobb dreams that his wife, who had passed away, is living and he cannot seem to get her out of his memory. I think that this is fascinating because when he believes he is in reality, he could be hallucinating in his poor mental stability, but the only way to tell is the totem that his wife owned. When he realizes that he is in dream space, a non existent place where Cobb is the creator in his mind, he wants to delve deeper into this deep deep dream. This is mind boggling, but so inspiring because in reality, humanity could just as easily be a life-long dream that you cannot escape from only depicted to be somewhat realistic. The depth of thought required to understand the plot in Inception is why it is my favorite work of art.

My favorite work of art has to be the book series called The Selection. Written by Kiera Cass, it's about a competition to marry the dashing Prince Maxon and live a life of priceless jewels and fame. Any girl would jump at the chance to escape the life they were born into, except America Singer. Throughout the first three books, you follow America's point of view as she tries to keep her secret relationship with Aspen hidden while trying to prove to Maxon and the rest of the country of Illea that she sound be the next queen. In the fourth, and soon to come, fifth book, you follow America and Maxon's oldest daughter, Eadlyn go through a Selection of her own. Ever since I picked up the first book, I haven't been able to stop myself from reading the entire book that day. I'd stay up until 3 in the morning just to know what happens and how it ends. I love this book series with such passion because every time I say, "Oh, I'll just finish the chapter and go to bed," I get caught reading the rest of the book. At every turn of the page, I don't want to take my eyes from the captivating story. And I know that I'll be one of the first people in line to get the last book in the series next year.

Art comes in many different forms paintings, ideas that are then put on paper, and pure talent. Usually art is thought of as high dollar paintings or Broadway acts, but it is also thought of as anything that inspires you. My favorite work of art is the 1984, tv series “The Transformers” written by the inspiration, of Takars, and Hasbro, toy line. I know what you might be thinking, “a cartoon, for kids? You have not seen anything else better.” Well I have seen a lot of great movies, plays, I have read really great books, and been around a lot of museum of fine arts. But something about Transformers still fascinates me. The show its self is a cartoon about two warring factions of robots, Autobots(the good guys), and Decepticons(the bad guys) on the planet Cybertron . The factions crash-land on Earth and, millions of years later, begin their battle anew in Reagan-era America and across the globe.
Plots generally centered on a Decepticon plot or invention of the week, which would be used to gather energy or Defeat The Autobots FOREVER!!, and the Autobots' efforts to stop the plan. Most of the time the Decepticons were forced into retreat, and the Autobots drove off victorious. I think the significance of this show for me was, that the Autobots always wanted to help out one another and do the right thing even if it was the wrong thing, while the Decepticons wanted things done there way no matter what. For Example. The Transformers home planet, crybertron was dying and they need to act fast, kill another planet for there's to live or move on? Well the Autobots wanted todo the right thing which was to move on, not to sacrifice anyone’s life, but the Decepticons could care less. It remains favorite work of art because of the great qualities the Autobots have for each other, and how cool is it to see a car transforme into a robot!

Art is an intresting subject for many people. Since the dawn of humanity people have been making art almost anyplace we can lay our hands on. This is partly due to the fact that art is a way of expressing human emotions into something more understandable for others; and since the very nature of art is somewhat of a broad subject it can be found in a variety of ways. It can be painted on a canvas, it can be carved into rock, it can be can be heard in music, and, more recently, it can be shot in film. My favorite work of art is shot in flim, and is titled,"2001: A Space Odessey". 2001 is a movie that tells the story about humanity, technology, evolution and extra-terrestrial life. The 140 minute long movie follows a space voyage to jupiter and an sentinent computer nammed Hal after a large black monolith is discovered that is connected to the evolution of humans. Although the movie is almost two and a half hours long only about twenty minutes of it contains actual diologue. To make up for the lack of diologue the director, Arthor C. Clarke, uses music and sound to fill in the gaps. The film is filled with many different classical pieces of music that most people will be able to reconize without ever having seen the movie. This movie is one of my favorites because the scenes are shot in a way that is just pleasing to the eye. As the actors are moving through space they seem almost as if they are actually there. Even though the director was limited by the technology of his time he was still able to come through and produce an amazing movie that many people will adore forever.

My favorite piece of art work is the movie Unbroken. All-though many people say the book is 100 times better, after watching the movie, it still gave me a sense of perseverance , courage, and self-discipline. Unbroken is the true story of Louis Zamperini, who served in the air force as part of a bomber crew. Zamperini's plane went down in the Pacific Ocean and he and two other survivors drifted over 40 long days living on rainwater and the illusive fish or bird they could catch. This scene in the movie was very touching to me because it taught me not to complain about the tiny things in life. Louis then drifted ashore the coast of Japan where he became a POW. Over the next 2 years, he suffered from disease, exposure, starvation, and near-daily beatings from guards. But not once, did Louis break. Through these grueling 2 years, he never gave up even through those nights that he didn't know if he would wake up in the morning. This perseverance and bravery over these 2 years showed me that anything I put my mind to is possible, no matter what obstacles one faces. After the war ended, Louis was united with his family and recently passed away last year at the age of 97. To me, I am more impacted by a true story. The fact that this piece of art work was not fictional, impacted me more as I was able to witness one man face so many obstacles and never give up

When people hear the word art they think of a painting or a drawing. The dictionary definition of art is, "something that is created with imagination and skill and that is beautiful or that expresses important ideas or feelings." Art can include things such as movies, music, dance, books, poetry, and many other things. My favorite work of art in the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. The Outsiders is about two rival gangs, the socs and the greasers. It follows a gang of greasers that include, Ponyboy Currtis, Sodapop, Darrel, Dallas Winston, Johnny, Two-Bit, and Steve Randle. The book focuses on a boy named Ponyboy Curtis, who lives with his brothers Sodapop and Darrel. S.E. Hinton started writing this book when she was 15 but wrote most of it while she was 16. The Outsiders was inspired by the Socs and the Greasers, who were 2 rival games at her school, Will Rogers High School. She felt sympathy toward the greasers which is why she wrote from there point of view. When this book was published in 1967 the author was around the same age as I am and she wrote this amazing book at such a young age. This book is my favorite work of art because when I read it for the first time I didn't want it to end. I enjoyed reading it and didn't want to put it down. I was very interested in the story line and I loved seeing how the characters developed throughout the story. As you read this book you find out more about each character and there life. I feel like I am in the story when I read it. I never get bored when I read it and the book always keeps you wondering what is going to happen next. The Outsiders is a classic that will always be my favorite book and that is why it is my favorite work of art.

My favorite work of art is the science fiction film Interstellar by Christopher Nolan. It features Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, and Michael Caine. It takes place not too far in the future, where worldwide droughts limit crop growth and cause massive food shortages. Former NASA pilot Cooper runs a failing corn farm with assistance from his father-in-law and daughter Murphy. Murphy tries to convince Cooper that her bedroom has a ghost haunting it, as things often are knocked off shelves. During a dust storm, Cooper finds a pattern in the dust which he discovers to be coordinates to a hidden NASA facility. There, he meets Dr. Brand who explains that a wormhole had appeared by Saturn which leads to a far away galaxy. Twelve brave astronauts volunteered to travel through the wormhole, knowing they might not be able to return home. Cooper, Brand, Romilly, and Doyle embark on the Endurance through the wormhole to evaluate the three planets that have been proposed to be inhabitable. My favorite things about this film is the soundtrack and the fact that it is not entirely fiction. The soundtrack was composed by Hans Zimmer, who has provided soundtracks for many of Nolan's other films. It, in my opinion, conveys the drama of the movie fantastically. Over all; the acting, scenery, props, and story all come together to create a masterpiece of a film that I would love to see again.

My favorite work of art is the movie "Remember the Titans". The movie "Remember the Titans" took place in 1971, a time in which racial prejudice was high . The local High school in the movie is forced to integrate an all black High school with an all white High school. The movie follows the struggle of the High school's football team as they attempt to get along with each other. The head coach of the football team also faces adversity and racism from other coaches in the state because he is black. The tensions of the white and black players is high at the beginning of the movie but changes as the players begin to bond through football. The football team begins to become a family. The team goes on to be undefeated and win the state championship. The movie "Remember the Titans" shows the camaraderie and sportsmanship that makes a great football team. This movie is my favorite work of art because it depicts the struggle of a racially integrated team in the 1970's

At first, this assignment seemed impossible given how indecisive i am but then i thought of something that influenced my childhood and made me who i am today. My favorite piece of art is a group of books known as the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. The magical series is written about a famous, orphaned wizard known as Harry Potter. He ends up at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and has many adventures there. These books portray friendship and love through their ups and downs. They also show what greed and power can do to a person. I hold these books so close to my heart because i grew up with them. My brother and I have watched the movies together since i was 7. In grade school my friends and I would talk about the books all the time. I love these books because i can relate to them and they remind me to be myself. I reread the series all the time and they never get old. They relax me when I'm stressed or sad and never fail to make me happy. The Harry Potter series take me to a magical and enchanting place that I never want to leave.

My favorite work of art is the musical Phantom of the Opera based on the novel le Fantôme de L'opera by Gaston Leroux. The musical was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Based in Paris in 1881 Christine Daae becomes the star of the opera after The Phantom threatens Carlotta's life if Christine doesn't sing. Throughout the entire show he idolizes her and her singing thinking she is the only one good enough for my theatre. But there is some conflict between the prima donna, Raoul, and the produces/managers. During the second act they ask Christine to perform so they can lure The Phantom into a trap. Of course it doesn't work. The phantom being enraged takes Christine into his layer where Raoul has to fight him off. The Phantom makes Christine choose between himself and Raoul. Before she can choose The Phantom lets them go out of the kindness of his heart. In the last moments before the curtain falls Christine comes back and The Phantom sings "Christine I love you" and they kiss. In this moment my heart is so happy because the thought that she could love him with his deformities it just always makes me feel happy. Sometimes I re watch the movie or the musical and it always makes me feel the same way: happy. Even though i might know what is going to happen it always makes me happy. That is why it is my favorite work of art.

To me art can be explained or defined in many ways, not just through music, painting, writing, or acting; I think that it is anything that stands out and puts a message in your head. For me, this is the song "Stairway to Heaven" written and played by the band Led Zeppelin. Basically it's speaking about life and all of its goods and bads that we will encounter. Also it says that even though we try to not think about it, our life will eventually come to an end, and by that time we should be able to look back and say to ourselves that we have helped others and just simply gave back. Also it's saying that we should have lived happy and lived life to its fullest so that we can be eternally happy up above. In particular my favorite set of lines in the song comes at the very end stating " And if you listen very hard,The tune will come to you at last. When all are one and one is all, To be a rock and not to roll." I comprehend this verse to mean as we get older more and more responsibilities, people, and problems will be put into your life and will sometimes seem almost impossible to tolerate but at the very end it will all come into tune and will work out for the better.

My favorite work of art is the genre of music called Rap/Hip Hop, and in particular the artist Logic. Sir Robert Bryson Hall II, or logic as most know him, is an American rapper that grew up in the crime riddled city of Gaithersburg, Maryland. He grew up with his parents suffering with drug addiction and alcoholism, which inspired some of his songs. Most of his songs have underlying messages that very few people pick up while listening to the songs themselves. He is considered an underrated rapper, but his latest album "Under Pressure" has given him a lot of popularity over the past two years. Logic has always tried to explain the negative things that have happened in his life and then turn it around with a positive message, such as achieving your goals in life or overcoming various things. One specific example is the song "Nikki". Most people thought in the beginning of the song that it was about a woman in his life, but it was later revealed in the end that it was about his addiction to cigarettes, and how he overcame it. He went on in an interview to say that he hopes people could relate to the song if they were addicted to a certain thing like cigarettes, and that they could overcome it with work and confidence. The lyricism and flow in his songs is what made me start liking his songs back in 2013 and continue to like him to this day. It also makes me realize that I have it easy living how i do and do not have to go through the hardships that some people in this country do. What his music contains and how he puts it into lyrics is what makes this one of my favorite works of art.

There are many different forms of art in the world, some easy to see, and some others are unable to see. When it comes to the different forms of art I enjoy looking at most. From dancing to singing but from all the different forms of art I find Paintings to be my favorite. Specifically, Vincent Van Gogh's starry night. The Starry Night is an oil painting the Van Gogh made in 1889. During Van Gogh's time Starry Night, along with his other paintings, was worthless. People told Van Gogh he was a terrible artist and no one would buy his paintings. The Starry Night was based off a sketch Van Gogh made from the view out his window. Even though his paintings were deemed as terrible and worthless, Van Gogh's Starry Night is one of the most valuable paintings in the world today. Many love this and many other works by Van Gogh.

It's hard to pick just one work of art as my favorite, but my favorite work of art to talk about is the movie An American in Paris. An American in Paris combines dancing, singing, paintings, music, and drama into one. It is one of my absolute favorite movies and I have seen it so many times. An American in Paris, directed by Vincente Minnelli, includes Gene Kelly, Leslie Caron, Oscar Levant, Georges Guétary, and Nina Foch as the cast. All of these actors have their own set of unique talents that make this film a classic. An American in Paris is about an American soldier who stays in Paris after World War II to become a painter but also makes friends and finds love in the process. His name is name is Jerry Mulligan (played by Gene Kelly). Jerry is a struggling artist but still persists in his work. While in Paris he makes many good friends. His best friend, Adam Cook (played by Oscar Levant) , is a fellow American in Paris who is also struggling with his job as a concert pianist. One day Jerry and Adam go to the cafe below their apartment building for breakfast when Adam's good friend and former employer Henri Baurel ( played by Georges Guétary) comes to visit. Henri is a famous singer in Paris and is engaged to Lise Bouvier (played by Leslie Caron). Jerry, Adam, and Henri chat in the cafe about Henri's fiancé Lise. Lise is shown dancing ballet in different settings, costumes, and styles of music as Henri tries to describe all of the components of Lise's personality. This part in the film has been my favorite ever since I watched it when I was five years old because Leslie Caron is such an amazing dancer. Watching this part of the film inspired me to take ballet classes when I was little because I wanted to dance just like her. An American in Paris is a celebration of all forms of art and reminds viewers to appreciate it.

Art can be expressed in many different ways, through movies, paintings, music, and more. My favorite work of art is The Help. It was origionally a book, but then it was made into a movie. The Help takes place in 1963, during the Civil Rights era, in Jackson Mississippi. The Help is a very inspiring story. There are many things about The Help that make it my favorite work of art. I like that during this time, when most people in Jackson were mean to their maids, one woman named Skeeter wanted to learn about their life, and respected them the way they should have been. She stood up for the mistreated maids and decides to write a book about their lives. Even though it is against the law, Skeeter and the maids write the book to inform others of how they are really being treated. I also love the movie the Help because of the relationships that form between the maids and the children they look after. Since the maids spend most of their time looking after the white women's children, the maids and children became very close. They treated the children as their own, and the maids were mothers to the children. The children don't understand the controversy between white and black people. They just look at the maids as people who look after them. When the maids get too old to work or fired, the some of their children are devastated. When Aibileen Clark is fired from her job, the last thing she says to the child she raised is, "You is kind. You is smart. You is important." The Help can be looked at as a love story between the maids and the children.

My favorite work of art is the book, The Moon is Down. This book was written in 1942 by John Steinbeck. I like this book because it has history in one of my favorite time periods, how descriptive John Steinbeck is with the scenes in the book, his use of Characters, and his use of imagery to make you think you know we're the people are living all though he does not actually say where. Those are some of the reasons why The Moon is Down is my favorite work of art.
With that now I will explain why I choose The Moon is Down as my favorite book. When John Steinbeck wrote about the different areas in the book you could almost see the officers planning room, the mine, the railroad tracks, and even the center of town. Most of the characters in a Steinbeck book ether do something unexpected or the valiant and honorable thing to do. Steinbeck did such a good job of describing Europe with out actually saying where the book took place. The U.S. even used the book as propaganda and the Europeans printed the books and spread them around the conquered areas. The final reason this book is my favorite is because it uses my favorite time period, World War II. World War II is my favorite time period because it shows the end of the Great Depression into America's greatest and most prosperous years.
That shows why I like the book, and how he used my favorite time period and genres. Also how many great ways John Steinbeck used literary devises to convey his story. Also how it is an inspiring story about how people stop invading armies. With that I have shown why The Moon is Down is my favorite book.

One of my many favorite works of art is The Outsiders. It was originally a book written by S.E. Hinton but much later transformed it into a captivating film. This book, written in 1967, was the only novel of its kind published at that time. Unlike the other popular books in the 1960s, The Outsiders tackled a subject that no one before Hinton mentioned, discrimination by wealth. I loved both the novel and the film because of how dynamic the characters are. Whether you're reading the book or watching the movie you feel as though you personally know Dallas, Pony-boy, and Johnny. This story features such an amazing cast of characters that you can so easily laugh and cry with. The Outsiders is my favorite work of art because of how honestly it captures what life was like in the 1960s for those people with less money. It shows how rough it was for Pony-boy and his friends just because they lived on the other side of town and were "greasers". I believe this story catches my attention because I can easily relate to the emotions of the teen characters and their mission to be happy and to fit in.

My favorite work of art is the book Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. This book, which was later turned into a movie which is also an excellent work of art, is the story of a World War II American soldier who was captured by the Japanese. The name of this soldier was Louis Zamperini. Before Louis joined the armed forces, he was an Olympic runner in the 1936 Olympic Games. But when World War II broke out, he joined the military as someone who flies with the bombing planes. During a test flight in his plane however, his plane malfunctioned and crashed into the Pacific Ocean, killing most of his crew. Louis and two others were the only ones to survive the crash. The three survivors then spent the following forty seven days floating in the ocean before being captured by the Japanese. Once they were captured, they were taken to a Prisoner of War (POW) camp. Unfortunately for Louis, he was recognized by one of the wardens there as an Olympic runner and became the favorite target to be tortured. The warden was known as The Bird. The reason I really enjoy reading this story is because it is inspirational to everyone who reads it. Not that I plan on getting captured and being in a POW camp, but it shows extreme perseverance that he was able to not give up even after he hadn't seen his family in almost two years. It teaches everyone who reads the book or sees the movie that no matter how bad things get, it will always get better and it teaches you not to give up during the process.

When I think of art the first thing that comes to my mind is dancing. For my whole entire life, I have been a dancer. I have gotten to experience all kinds of art from different styles of dance. Dance is the art form in which human movement becomes the medium for sensing, understanding, and communicating ideas, feelings, and experiences. To me art is a a deep, well thought out piece of choreography. All pieces of dance have emotions, whether it's happy, sad, mad, confused, etc. Dancing can tell a story through its movement and the way the dancer connects with the music. Dancing itself has its on language and understanding. When people dance they can feel their body and all of their surroundings. You can truly see the art of dance by watching a dancer express him or herself through the emotion in their movement.

I absolutely love movies - especially ones that make you think. A great example of these kinds of movies and my favorite work of art is the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, directed by Ben Stiller. Ben Stiller also plays the character Walter Mitty, a single, lonely man who lives a repetitive, boring life. He has frequent, life-like daydreams in which he is the hero, and his coworkers often have to snap him out of them. He works for the magazine Life as a photo processor. An important photographer, Sean O'Connell, sends him an incomplete roll of photo negatives. Mitty sets out on a spontaneous international escapade to find O'Connell's missing photo, traveling to Iceland that very day. He follows clues that O'Connell left while encountering both physical and emotional obstacles. A beautiful part of this movie is when he gets fired from his job, but he doesn't stop working tirelessly to find the missing piece of the puzzle. He finds his sense of purpose and discovers what he really values in life - adventure. This is my favorite work of art because it tells the story of an ordinary, relatable man who learns to make the most out of life, and it makes me want to explore the world and all its hidden surprises. So often, we get focused on day to day activities that we forget to live in the moment. This incredible film instills in its viewers a yearning to travel the world, to be bold, and to dare to do things that they have only ever dreamed of.

My favorite work of art is The Fast and Furious series. This series starts with Brian O'conner , one of the main characters, as an undercover cop trying to infiltrate Dominic Toretto's group of street racers who are suspected to be involved in a string of robberies. As the first movie unfolds , Brian gains the trust of all but one member of Dominic's group, Vince. Vince plants a seed of doubt into many of the members of the group which eventually leads to Brian revealing himself as a cop. After Dominic crashes a car while being chased by Brian, Brian realizes he is too close to Dominic to let him be arrested so he gives him the keys to his car to escape. This leads to a long lasting friendship between Brian and the rest of Dominic's group. After going their separate ways they cross paths again when Brian is working undercover for a drug lord that Dominic is looking into. This is when they start finally working together for a common cause. Throughout the rest of the series the bonds between the group only continue to go as they face adversity from the outside world. This series is both entertaining and exciting to watch. The combination between that and seeing the bond between friends is what makes The Fast and Furious series my favorite work of art.

My favorite work of art is the movie Wolf of Wall Street starring a tremendous actor, Leonardo DiCaprio.

My favorite genre of music is Alternative and while I have a favorite band and a favorite song that are not the song or artist listed below, I feel that one of the most thought provoking artist and songs are Hozier and most of the songs from his debut album (Hozier) and his EP (From Eden). The song I want to bring attention to is "Arsonist's Lullabye". The song is essentially the story of a man's battle with his mental illness, which is implied to be schizophrenia due to the line which states "When I was a child, I heard voices..." and his obsession with fire that had developed when he was young. As the man gets older, his obsession grows worse as he begins experimenting with flammable materials. He becomes almost incapable of not smelling gasoline at the age of 16, as explained during the line "I knew the scent was mine alone". The man began to believe that in his later years that his fixation with burning would end, however; he soon realized that it didn't and clearly states that he could only be at peace knowing all of the destruction he caused and the ashes that remained as proof. The chorus of the song provides us with the knowledge that he believed that the only thing he had was fire and it also implies that he believed the voices mentioned earlier to be his "demons" and that he never "tamed them" but "kept them on a leash" which you can only assume means that he never fought his urges but let them drag him or draw him to ultimately causing ruin. It is mentioned in the beginning of the song that the man dies but for reasons unknown as depicted in the line "I learned the voices died with me" and due to the overall tone of the song one can assume that he committed suicide.
This song starts a conversation about mental illness and how we treat those with it which is a topic that I feel should be discussed more often and more sincerely. I really love this song because it brings the viewpoint of the person causing destruction and not just the victims of the crime. People tend to ignore the criminal's mental health when hearing of the crime(s) committed and when they do hear about the mental stability of the person they tend to ignore it. This song is unique because it doesn't dehumanize the man, like mainstream media tends to do with the perpetrators of unforgivable crimes. I really find it incredible how the song sounds both sorry but almost matter-of-fact and I believe that is supposed to represent how the man feels about himself and what he did. This song is so beautiful because of not only its sound but of the message it delivers.

Throughout my life, art has impacted how I express myself and my perspective on life. Although there are many forms art can come in, my favorite would have to be books. One of my favorite books is Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. It follows the life of a high school girl who gets bullied because she called the cops on a summer party. She is completely isolated and no one will talk to her other than to harass her. Not even her parents will give her much attention. No one understands that she had something horrible happen to her and that is the reason for what she did. However, art had given her a sense of expression. She was able to use it to dig herself out of her silence and depression. Eventually, she gains more and more confidence after speaking up little by little. She is able to confront her issues and defend herself. This novel really showed me how important it is for you to speak up for yourself. It made me sad how people could just assume things so quickly. It also showed how art can really impact you and how you express your emotions. It was very uplifting when she finally started gaining confidence and was finally able to tell someone about what she was bottling up inside. This novel is my favorite because of all of the ups and the downs and the reality of the situation. It shows that speaking up for yourself and others will turn out for the better.

"I'm a winner. I am going to win." This is my favorite quote from Coach Herman Boone. Coach Boone is the main character of my favorite work of art "Remember the Titans." This movie is set in Virginia at the high school T.C. Williams. T.C. Williams was the first high school in Virginia that was integrated. After the school was integrated, Coach Boone was named the first African American coach in Virginia. There was a lot of tension and bitterness when different races were forced to play on the same team. After working out these tensions and fighting during camp, the team was than challenged to take the same bond they created into the real world. They faced many challenging teams with great players, but through their bond they use teamwork to stick together, and they end up winning the Virginia state championship with a perfect record. "Remember the Titans" is my favorite work of art because it shows the real meaning of brotherhood and has also been my favorite movie since I was little. This movie inspires me because it shows that hard work and dedication pays off. This is and always will be my favorite movie. If you haven't already seen this movie, I seriously suggest watching it.

It took me several days to figure out what my favorite piece of artwork was, however after careful consideration, I determined it to be: "The pursuit of Happyness" by Christopher Gardner. "The Pursuit of Happyness", is a true life story that mirrors a single father's struggle with poverty. I enjoy this movie because it contains many inspirational quotes and life lessons that I feel will motivate others. One of the lessons the movie teaches is how to believe in yourself when no one else does. This lesson shows that perseverance and self-motivation is all one needs to succeed through life's obstacles. The second lesson from the movie is that real education starts outside the classroom. This can be seen when Gardner would get straight A's as a boy. He would imagine all the things he could do when he grew older. However, with time he realized that while it was important, everything you learn in school can not equip you for real life situations. I appreciate how this movie shows that hard work can turn into success and that idea alone, is realistic. Ultimately, this movie motivates me to do my best in life, follow my dreams and become successful in life. It shows me to never stop trying to reach my goals in life no matter what anyone tells me.

My favorite work of art is Les Misérables the musical. Based on the novel by Victor Hugo, the musical brings to life the story of not only the main character, Jean Valjean, but the lives of revolutionaries, and students during the time of the French Revolution. I chose Les Mis because it's about true love. True love isn't always a person, it can sometimes be be an idea or an event. Valjean's true love is his daughter Cosette. He took her in when she was a young girl after her mother, Fantine died of tuberculosis. Fantine became a prostitute after she lost her job and couldn't pay rent. Despite the fact that Valjean has constantly being hunted down by Inspector Javert because he escaped his parole, he would always provide a safe and healthy home for Cosette. Both Valjean and Fantine were willing to give up their health and their freedom for the wellbeing of Cosette. As Cosette grows up under the protection of Valjean, she meets a wealthy young man by the name of Maruis Pontmercy. In just one glance, they are both in love. As Cosette has no struggle knowing what her true love is, Marius is not so sure. Yes, he is head over heels in love with Cosette, but he is also a revolutionary hoping to overthrow the government with Enjolaras, Éponine, and his fellow students. He is torn between following his heart, and doing what is right. He chooses both. He fights at the barricade with his friends, but at a cost. Everyone dies but him because Valjean saves him for Cosette. So Marius ends up with his true love knowing he did the right thing by defending what he believes in even if he lost people he loved.Maruis' longtime friend, Éponine fights with the revolution. She came from a household where her parents did not love her but she knew love because she knew Marius. She spent her entire life in love with him and could do nothing about it because he did not love her the same way. Éponine helps Maruis find Cosette, because she knows it will make him happy. As long as he is happy, she is satisfied. In the first battle at the barricade Marius is almost killed but Éponine grabs the barrel of the enemy's gun and points it at herself as it fires. Éponine dies so that her true love can live. True loves comes in different forms. Enjolaras is sort of the leader of the barricade. He can think of nothing better to do than to fight for his freedom, and that's what he did. He fought for the thing he loves the most; his country. He fought for its people and he fought for a better tomorrow. The reason why I love this musical so much is because it beautifully depicts true love. Every single character in Les Misérables has to sacrifice something for their true love. Every person who died at the barricade died because they loved something and they wanted to protect it. Whether it was a husband or wife, a country, or even freedom, everyone has to love something. One of the last lines of the last song is "To love another person is to see the face of God." This line is sung by the whole company, as symbolism that every single person had someone they loved.

"The Book Theif" is a novel that is centered around the life of a young girl named Liesel. It is based on the era of World War II and narrated by Death,  Death narrates and explains the reasons behind each character's demise and explains how he feels when he takes the life of a character, Death is given a sense of care instead of fear. The story picks up when Liesel's father abandons her family , her little brother dies, and her mother is forced to give her up. She moves in with her foster parents Hans and Rosa Hubermann. Hans, was a World War I fighter who becomes very close with Liesel, and teaches her how to read in secret. They help each other with reading and write all the words they learn on a wall in the basement. Liesel becoming infatuated with reading and writing starts stealing books (hence the title of the book). Liesel steals the books the Nazis are looking to destroy and starts to write her own story's.  As Germany's state worsens her foster parents hide a Jewish man named Max, putting Liesel and her family in danger. Max is a Jewish fist fighter who hides in the Hubermanns basement, his father fought in the war with Hanns so the Hubermanns agree to hide him for awhile. Max quickly befriends Liesel and they both bond over reading and writing. "The Book Thief" is my favorite work of art because of how different it is and how it is constantly reminding the reader how important it is to appreciate you're life and the time you are given and to not fear death when the time comes.

The definition of art is the creative expression of ones imagination and talent. My favorite work of art is the painting The Singing Butler. It is an oil painting by artist Jack Vettriano. It shows a couple dancing on the beach. There is grey skies and bad weather. There are two butlers standing next to the couple holding up umbrellas because of the weather. The couple is beyond dressed up for the scene, and happily dancing.I think the message of this painting is that no matter what the situation is, joy can always come from it. Also, everything can be looked at in a positive way.

He has a mentor who teaches him to follow his dreams, no matter what the odds are. The two main characters grow together and bring out the best of each other. After you watch this film, you will feel inspired and have a whole new, positive, perception on life. It is an amazing piece of art.

My first post wasn't 200 words

My favorite piece of art is 21 jump street I was watching it over the weekend and I realized how well it expresses both emotions of the two characters. Schmidt and Jenko are undercover cops that are sent back to high school for an undercover drug operation. When they mix up there given names that were assigned to them by the captain. They realize that high school is going to be a lot different then it was when the went to high school for the first time. When Jenko went to school for the first time he was the dumb jock that had a great time and Schmidt was the exact opposite. When they mix up there names and personality's. Jenko turns into the nerd, and Schmidt turns into the poplar kid. As like the first time in high school they were not good friends and the same happens when they go back again with different personalities. I think the movie expresses that peer pressure can tear really good friends apart just for popularity. That is why this is my favorite piece of art.

There are many forms of art, most of which are beautiful, but my favorite form of art is books. My favorite work of art is the life touching novel written by Mitch Albom, The Five People You Meet in Heaven. This work of art touched my heart in the summer after seventh grade. This novel follows the life and death of a maintenance man named Eddie whom risked his life to save a young child. This is my favorite work of art because it has a few inspiring themes. The main themes incorporated in the novel are that there are no random acts in life, that lives are sacrificed to save others, and that you should always forgive.

Art is a word that could mean many things, such as paintings, music, movies and more. One of my favorite works of art is the movie "The Shawshank Redemption". The movie is about a man, Andy Dufresne, played by Tim Robbins, who is sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his wife and her lover. The prison he is sentenced to is thought to be the toughest prison in the United States. Throughout the movie, Dufresne befriends many people such as Red, played by Morgan Freeman, and even the Warden. Dufresne still believes he is innocent after being convicted, never giving up on himself even if he is in a terrible position. This movie makes me feel that everyone has a right to continue and to never give up like Dufresne. He thinks highly of himself even being in prison, because he knows that he didn't commit the crimes he is sentenced for, driving him to do very daring things. This movie is my favorite work of art because I like the theme and the setting of the whole movie. I have always been a fan of prison movies and how people survive their times their. This movie is a good combination of drama and suspense throughout most of the movie.

My favorite work of art is the Sistine Chapel, which contains the countless frescoes painted by the famous Renaissance artist, Michelangelo. I have enjoyed art ever since I was little, and appreciate the time and effort it takes to create such a beautiful piece of artwork. Many may not know the fact that Michelangelo, at first, wanted nothing to do with the four-year-long endeavor, but reluctantly accepted the request from Pope Julius II. At the time of the offer, Michelangelo was working on Pope Julius II's marble tomb. Michelangelo considered himself a sculptor, not a painter, and wanted to finish his sculpting masterpiece. Also, Michelangelo had no experience with frescoes before the Sistine Chapel, and didn't want to get involved in a huge project. While working on the chapel, he designed a scaffold that instead of being built from the ground up, is supported by holes in the wall. Some say that Michelangelo agreed to paint the Sistine Chapel because he figured that helping out the Pope would get him a ticket straight to heaven. With all things considered he took on the massive undertaking, and completed a true work of art. Michelangelo created a masterpiece that contains numerous paintings that still continue to amaze us today.

Rachel Patten’s song, “Fight Song”,  is my favorite work of art. The meaning of this song is very important to me because the artist talks about perseverance. She is ready for the world and whatever it has to throw at her. You can tell that she has been through a lot in life from some of the lyrics. She does not want to settle any more. The instrumentals are bold and confident in the chorus, enhancing what she is trying to get across to listeners. She knows what she is capable of and is ready to show everyone what she can do. She is becoming who she is meant to be. The message this song sends out is something that I take to heart and can easily relate to. Nowadays, people are so worried of what others think and say about them. It is so easy in the world today to get trampled on, but Rachel Patten refuses to stay down. She gets back up and tells the world that she still has a lot left in her. My favorite line is, “Like a small boat on the Ocean. Sending big waves into motion”. This line hits me hard. Even though I am just a teenage girl, I am capable of making a huge impact on people. I want to be able to do big things and achieve my goals even when there are obstacles in the way. "Fight song" is my favorite work of art because of the musical components and the message it gives out that lets me relate to it.

When I think of art, many things come to mind. The one thing that stands out above all to me is music. To be more specific, I think of the song "Terrible Things" by the band Mayday Parade. It is a mixture of sadness but also happiness that blends well together. The main base of the song is this man explaining the love story between him and the boy's mother and where his mother is. He explains how much joy they gave each other and how they loved unconditionally. He tells his son stories of how they met and how they fell in love. As he is telling his son these stories, he says " now, son, I'm only telling you this because life can do terrible things." At this point he is pouring out to his son how much love they had. She explains to his father that she is dying and has little time left but tells him that he was the greatest thing that had happened to her. While telling the story to his son, he turns sad and bitter. In his eyes, love is to be avoided so that the same thing doesn't happen to his son because of how it broke him. When he met his wife, he had believed in all the wonderful things of love. But once she passed, he only saw the terrible things in love. What makes this tragic story beautiful is how it is played on piano throughout the whole song and how much emotion was put into the words that move me to be amazed.

My favorite work of art is the movie Interstellar. It's a movie about how there could be another habitable world for humans because earths resources are running out. A man has to leave his family and possibly never see them again so that he could find somewhere for them to live in the future. I also like the theme of the story which isthat when making hard decisions always go with what you think is right. It is my favorite work of art because I like the idea that someone could actually go to another world be able to live and survive there.

Art is defined as the various branches of creative activity, such as painting, music, literature, and dance that exert emotional responses from people who view or enjoy them. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak definitely does this. The first time I had to read this book was the summer after seventh grade for summer reading. I thought I was going to hate it, and I put off reading it until the last week before school started. The story was so beautifully written, and it had such a unique narrative device; it was told by the personification Death. Set in Germany in the 1930s and 1940s, the basic plot of the story is that a young girl, Liesel, is abandoned by her mother after her brother Werner's death and she is taken in by two foster parents, Hans and Rosa Hubermann. Her foster father, Hans, learns that Liesel cannot read, so he teaches her using a book she stole from the people who buried her brother, a gravediggers handbook. She steals more books over the course of the novel, and eventually writes one of her own. Another major occurrence in the book is the illegal harboring of a persecuted Jew in liesel's family's basement and the connection he and Liesel develop. The story ends tragically, but it makes the book even better. It's the best book I've had to read for school, and it affected me a lot considering I usually don't get emotional over books.

One of my favorite movies is remember the Titans. Remember the Titans is a book of perseverance, courage and heart. Remember the Titans is a movie about how a white football team gets merged with a black football team. In the beginning they are rude and disrespectful to the black kids. But then they go to Gettysburg for practice. After going to Gettysburg they bond and become one as a team. As they start the season they start to struggle with what the African Americans were dealing with. They all aren't aloud in places and in result feel awful. After one of their games their starting line backer gets hit by a truck in his car and becomes a paraplegic. The team dedicated the season to him and won the championship. After they became champions and graduated the line backer was in the special Olympics and won a gold medal. I chose this movie because it shows all things that I enjoy. Football and a good story.

Art comes in many different forms. It can be crazy, colorful, dull, and anything in between. My favorite piece of art is the TV show Criminal Minds. I like this show because it makes the viewer think outside of the box. It does this because most people always picture police following clues and catching the bad guy, but this is not quite how this team does it. The team is called the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU). The BAU creates profiles to try to catch murderers. I think it is really interesting how they study the lives of the killers so closely because I never thought of using that method to catch a criminal. They try to find someone who fits the profile, and if a person fits the profile, that means they are the killer. I love how everything seems unrelated but falls into place at the end. There are many sad, joyful, and suspenseful moments. Sometimes, the criminals even come after members of the team, so they help each other out and risk their lives for each other. I think that is really amazing how much they care about one another. The sense of family really adds to the show. I think the creators of this show are true artists because they can stir up such deep emotions in people. Criminal Minds is an amazing piece of art and I love to watch it.

My favorite work of art is Dance (Mattise) by Henri Mattise. It is actually 2 separate paintings with the same name, by the same artist, and they both look similar. I first came across these paintings when i was on Tumblr. The painting looked so interesting to me and almost had a calming sense to it. It is a Russian painting that is supposed to convey liberation and hedonism. The painting was made for Russian businessman and art collector Sergei Shchukin.
