Seniors #1 Journal: Your Bucket List [post before Thursday]
Consider this first journal a curious mixture of themes presented in the somber short story, The Portable Phonograph, and a movie called The Bucket List, a 2009 film in which two older men make a list of things they want to do before they die or "kick the bucket."
In keeping with the themes of both works, here's your exercise:
Facing dire circumstances (let's say you are marooned on a island), you are in need of some hope, some inspiration, or just one more day of what you enjoy doing the most.
Briefly explain, in a few sentences for each, your choices. Final word count for the assignment must exceed 200 words. Number your answers.
Post before class on Thursday, November 21.

1. If I was only able to read one book before I died, it would be The Five People You Meet in Heaven. I would read this because it would remind me of everyone I would see again and that I shouldn’t be afraid. Also, if heaven is anything like the book, I could see my accomplishments and everything I had done throughout my life to help other, and see how it affected me. I think it would give me peace to know their outcomes.

1. I think that the last thing I would want to read would be the bible. It would give me something to think about, and it would give me hope if I knew my situation was desperate. Also, the bible is very interesting, with many different, entertaining stories in it, not just one story.

2. Hearing “I Lived” by One Republic would make me feel better because the song is about appreciating each second of life and living your life in a way so that when you look back, you can truthfully say that you did it all- that you “owned every second that this world could give”. Additionally, this song always cheers me up because the tune is happy instead of weary and sappy.
3. I would choose to watch the show Friends because in a situation where I am stranded on an island, I would need a good laugh. I would be thankful to enjoy a last laugh because I prefer to be optimistic, and I believe that a day without a laughter, is indeed a day wasted.

This past year we had a family reunion on Canyon Ferry Lake and my cousins, who do not usually go on vacation because they are a family joined by marriage two years ago and have a total of six kids, were able to join us. My siblings and I are all very close with our cousins and being able to experience Montana with them gave us memories that will last a lifetime.
6. I want the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle explained. I have always had a love for the ocean and have always found shipwrecks interesting. 9. I would literally guard my family members with my life. I am closest to my grandma and I could not imagine life without her. I am also very close with my sister Christina. But choosing one person to guard out of my grandma, sisters, brother, parents, or Pop-Pop would be almost impossible.
1. If I were marooned on an island, I would want to read the poem, “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost because it is my favorite poem. I like this poem because I like what it represents and that would be doing what’s best for you, even if it happens to not appeal to others. It means not being a follower, but rather a leader, setting your own path for others to follow.
2. I would want to hear the song, “I Hope You Dance” by Lee Ann Womack. This has been my favorite song since I was a little girl. My mom used to always play this song in the car saying it reminded her of me and what she hopes for me. 3. I would want to watch “The Wizard of Oz” because it is my favorite movie. My parents told me that when I was younger and was having a temper tantrum they would always count on this movie to calm me down. I think this movie would bring me happiness, even if I was stuck on an island.

5. I would like to visit Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida around Christmas time. I love the amusement park especially all the rides. And I also love all the characters that walk around. If it was during Christmas time, the park is all decorated with Christmas trees, Santa, and presents. Also, the characters are dressed up for the holidays. The charisma of the park makes me happy, and I think it’s just an all around happy place to be especially around Christmas time, since it is my favorite time of year.
6. I would want the answer to cancer. I know a lot of people who have been affected by it, not only the person with the disease, but also their friends and family. I think if there were a chance of survival for me, and coming back home, I could use this answer to tell others and save many lives.
7. I would like to have a conversation with Olivia Culpo, Miss Universe 2012. Ever since she was crowner Miss Rhode Island in 2012 she has been a role model to me. I look at Olivia as our “modern-day” Princess Diana because she does a lot of work with HIV/AIDS and I think Diana is someone women have always looked up to.
8. The last activity I would like to do would be to swim in the ocean. Whenever I go down to the beach I am always in the water, and it is one of my favorite things to do.

I liked the mystery and secrecy of the book, especially after dissecting all of the hidden motifs in my literature class.
2. If I could hear just one more song it would be Pachelbel’s “Canon in D”. It is so full of joy that it just warms my heart whenever I listen to it. Whenever I hear it, I picture myself walking down the aisle at my wedding. The overwhelming happiness associated with the image of my wedding day is why I love the song so much.
3. I would watch the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith one last time. This movie is so thrilling and even though it’s three hours long, my attention is always engaged. I think I like it so much because secretly I’ve always wanted to be a hot spy like Mrs. Smith is in the movie.
4. For my final meal, I would want to have a nice, big steak dinner. It would have to be cooked at the most perfect of medium rares. To top this perfect meal off, it would have to be glazed over with mushrooms.
5. If I could visit any place again it would be the Outer Banks in North Carolina. I went there for vacation in seventh grade and I never wanted to leave. We had the biggest house right on the water. We all got our own king bed, even my little brother who was in fourth grade at the time. We had our own secluded walkway right out onto a private beach. The weather was always perfect. There were so many nice places to run. The food was amazing and there was always somewhere new to shop. We never ran out of things to do. It was paradise.
6. I would finally like for someone to explain to me why ‘life’s not fair’. It really doesn’t make sense to me. I have had plenty of times where I have failed at or lost something that I really wanted. Each new failure it felt as if I seemed to say “well, I’ll get it next time”. Then, next time rolled around and I was again shoved down to the ground. How is it fair that I have to be crushed each and every time? Well that’s it right there: Life’s not fair. No. I need an explanation.
7. If he were still alive, I would want to have a conversation with Frank Lloyd Wright. I would ask him how he became so successful and what I should do to become successful in my architecture career. After talking to him I could brag to my dad because my dad really likes Frank Lloyd Wright’s style.
8. I would want to host the biggest party ever. I would want to celebrate with all of the people in my life that make it so great. I would love to just live it up one last time and have the most fun that I’ve ever had in my life. No drama, no worries, just carefree bliss with all of the people I enjoy spending my time with.
9. I would guard my boyfriend with my life. How ‘ooey-gooey’ of an answer is that? But besides my family, he really is the one person that I can always come to for anything. He always brightens my day up and never stops making me laugh. I can’t imagine what my life would be like without him. I care about him so much that I really would take a bullet for him.

3. A Cinderella Story is the movie I would want to watch one more time. Even though I have seen it a million times, I still remember the day my Nana took me to see it in the movie theater. If I were at the end of the tunnel, with no light of hope left, I would have a few things in mind that would be necessary to accomplish before I “kicked the bucket”. For starters, I would read the poem “Invictus” by William Ernest Henley one last time, for a little inspiration. It would give me the willpower I need and desire to survive. If I could only listen to one single song, it would have to be “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo`ole. This song fills me with nothing but good island vibes and would help liven up my spirit. My favorite movie of all time, “The Dark Knight”, would be a must-watch for me in times of trouble because it is the most action-packed, thrilling, entertaining film I’ve ever seen and under those circumstances I would most likely need a hero like the Batman to look up to. My “last supper” would definitely consist of my mom’s homemade chicken and biscuits because they always hit the spot. If it were possible, I would love to be able to go to one last Ravens game with my dad because the incredible moments and experiences I have shared with him at those games over the years are some of my fondest memories. The mystery of life itself and the purpose for our very existence would be quite interesting to have explained to me as well. If I could have a conversation with any celebrity or famous person before I passed, I would have to choose the one and only James Franco. Everything about the man intrigues and puzzles me at the same time. I consider myself a bit of a thrill-seeker so if I could spend my last day at some kind of amusement park with all my friends and family that would be perfect. If I had the opportunity to guard something with my life I would have to guard my mother because she has taken care of me my whole life so I would feel responsible to make sure she’s ok.

1. If I were ever in such a horrible situation and had to choose one last work of poetry before I died, I would choose the poem “What Life Is!” by Abdul Wahab. This is a short, simple poem about the ups and downs in life that everyone must go through at some point. I would choose this poem because at the end it says that no matter what you’re going through you have to stay strong, keep your head held high, and stay positive, and I think that’s exactly the message I would need to hear at that time.
2. The last song I would want to listen to if I were stranded on an island would be “Forever Young” by Jay-Z. This song was the background music to my eighth grade class collage at our graduation. 3. A movie that I would like to see again before I die would be The Hangover trilogy because they are currently some of my favorite movies and they never fail to make me laugh.
4. My favorite meal that I would have to have if it were to be my last meal would be steak. The first reason I would choose steak is because it’s delicious and I favorite for many people. More importantly, however, I would choose steak because it reminds me of home. For the past several years, every Sunday during the summer my dad’s family would come over to go swimming and the most popular meal every Sunday was steaks on the grill.
5. One place I would love to visit for one last time is the Outer Banks in North Carolina. I have been there a couple times in the summer for family vacations, and every time we go it’s like I fall in love all over again. It’s one of my favorite places, and I’m even trying to go to college somewhere in North Carolina.
6. If I could receive the answer to only one of life’s serious mysteries I would want the answer to what do people have to do while they are living to be guaranteed entrance into heaven. 7. The one famous person I would most like to have a conversation with before I die would be Morgan Freeman. 8. One activity that I would love to do before I die is to go skydiving. I think that nearly everyone would put skydiving somewhere on their bucket list because it’s a thrilling experience. I have never been skydiving before, but I can only imagine the rush one has when plummeting to the earth.
9. The one prized possession that I would guard with my life would be my cellphone because of all its uses. It can be used for calling, texting, emailing, video chatting, social networking, searching the internet, listening to music, and playing games. No matter what could happen the iphone would still be useful.
1.One of my favorite poems, ever since I was a little kid, was Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein. I know it's just some little kids poem, but for some reason I've always seemed to like it. I would really like that to be the last poem I ever read.
2. The last song that I would ever like to hear would be Let It Be by The Beatles. The song is so calming and inspirational in my opinion, the message to just "let it be" would just let me accept these dire circumstances and calm down. Plus, the Beatles have always been one of my favorite bands, so I would love for the to be the last thing I ever hear.
3. The last movie I would want to watch would be Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I consider this to be one of the funniest movies I've ever seen, and I would love to get a great laugh in before I died, and this movie has never failed to make me laugh and it has become my all time favorite movie ever.
4. The last meal I would ever want to have would definitely be just Thanksgiving dinner. This includes the turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, green beans, the works. And I can't forget the pumpkin pie! Who wouldn't want another Thanksgiving dinner?
5. The last place that I would like to visit again would be Tennessee. The mountains in Tennessee have been the most beautiful the most beautiful place I have ever been to in my life. It is so serene and peaceful there, and that would be the perfect place for me to spend my final time.

7. A famous person I would love to have a conversation with would be, without a doubt, Kid Cudi. His music has greatly impacted my life in so many different ways, and I consider him to be a musical genius. I would love to ask him what each of his songs are really supposed to mean, ask him what inspired him to write each song, and let him know how much his music and message means to me.
8. Right before I died, I would love to be able to play one last game of volleyball. I have been playing volleyball ever since I was very little, and it would mean the world to me to be able to play it one last time.
9. There are two people that I would guard with my life, and they would be my grandparents. They are the most important people in my life and I am very close to them.
1. The final work of poetry that I would want to read would be “Invictus” by W. E. Henley. “Invictus” is my favorite poem of all time and would be appropriate to read as an act of finality, particularly because of the third stanza: “Beyond this place of wrath and tears/ Looms but the horror of the shade/ And yet the menace of the years/ Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.” It booms and inspires and charges the soul in a way that cannot be surpassed by any other work of writing I’ve ever come across.
2. The song “Mallory” by Chase Coy makes me smile every time I hear it. It’s cheesy as heck but it’s also catchy as cooties and Chase Coy is one of my favorite singers so I honestly can’t resist.
3. I’d watch the movie “August Rush” one more time. The first time I saw “August Rush,” I watched it twice in a row. I’ve never gotten sick of it. This movie made me appreciate the city, music, and life all at once. It’s the kind of movie that doesn’t make a big deal out of itself, but is so beautifully made. I might even dare to say it moves the human heart.
4. My final meal would be breakfast because a last meal is not complete without bacon, in my opinion. On a serious note though, breakfast food and the whole ambiance of a huge, family morning meal at any time of day is something that I’ve always loved. When I was little, my mom would make a big breakfast every Sunday so associate many family memories with breakfast. The tradition of family breakfast has passed to my friends, too. Every few weekends we all get together and make a breakfast from scratch and sit down to have “family breakfast” at dinner time. Long story short, I love breakfast on an emotional level. Also, breakfast food is amazing in general.
5. If I could, I would go to Firefly all over again. Firefly is a three day music festival held in Dover in the beginning of summer which I had the opportunity to attend last summer. Seeing all my favorite bands in one place playing all my favorite songs while I was with all my favorite people was absolutely surreal and my life would not be complete without being able to go one more time.
6. Space and the supreme vastness of the universe fascinate me. I would want more than anything to know about the entirety of the universe: what’s in it, who’s in it, and where/if it ends. I would like to be able to fathom the unfathomable reaches of creation.
7. The one famous person I would love to have a conversation with is award-winning author John Green. John is not only my favorite author, but also one of my favorite people. He speaks eloquently and intelligently and interprets the world in a unique way. I would love to pick his brain and discuss everything under the sun with him.
8. As my final act, I’d like to travel the world—the whole world. I believe that almost all hatred arises from ignorance and so I believe that the only cure for this is traveling to other countries and learning to appreciate all types of cultures and people. I think it is so important that all people travel and experience as much as possible in order to understand the complete superficiality of the melodrama of their day-to-day lives. I have such a desire to see every country so that I can learn more about the world around me.
9. There is no material possession in this world that I would bother to protect with my whole life. I would, however, protect every single person that I love with all that I have. This encompasses my family and tight-knit group of friends. Every single one of them.

9. Someone I would guard with my life is my mother. She’s always been there for me and she’s basically my best friend. I would do anything for my mother. I can’t imagine my life without her.
1. Books are my passion. They have the power to transform my life into an adventure, and I never even have to put shoes on. Choosing one final book to read would be impossible for me. However, if the situation were dire enough, I would choose the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. This series holds incredible memories for me. My father read the entire series to me (even though I could read on my own). He would make up a different voice for each character, making me laugh and cry with the story. Re-reading this series would make me feel close to my dad, and my childhood.
2. I am a music lover, and I am a lover of many genres of music. I have never had one “favorite” song because every song speaks to me at certain times in my life. However, if I could only listen to one more song, I would “Drops of Jupiter” by Train. This song, whenever it comes on shuffle or the radio, always brings up that bubbly smile that can only be induced by true happiness. This song for me represents delight and contentment.
3. My favorite movie has always been and will always be Beauty and the Beast. If I could choose one final film to watch in my lifetime, I would choose this Disney classic. As with Drops of Jupiter, this movie instills in me true and total joy that I crave every day. It never fails to make me smile, no matter what the circumstances.
4. My favorite meal would be the guacamole from Rosa Mexicano in New York City. I have been a patron of this restaurant only twice in my life (most recently for my birthday this year), but I have never tasted anything as incredibly fresh and delicious as their guacamole. I could eat it everyday of my life, and it would never lose its incredible flavor.
5. I have been to amazing places in my life, including six counties outside the United States. If I had to choose one last place to visit, I would choose the Swiss Alps, specifically Murren. While there I would hike through the awe-inspiring Alps, listening for the sound of jingling bells wrapped around the necks of brown cows and drinking out of fresh water streams trickling through the forest. I would be surrounded by immense beauty and the overwhelming majesty of God’s creation. Plus, the fondu was incredible as well.
6. There are not many mysteries of life that I question. However, one that I have always wanted to understand is where do we truly go after death? Does Heaven exist, and if so what is it like? If God is made of love, does Hell truly exist as well? I want to understand where I am headed.
7. If I could have a conversation with anyone in history, I would probably choose Shakespeare. I would want to know if he truly meant for his sonnets to be seen. I would want to tell him how his works have impacted so many lives, including mine. I would want him to know how influential he was in shaping the world of modern literature.

9. Besides people, the only material possession I would truly guard with my life is my laptop. My laptop contains all of my photos that I have ever taken, which are my memories from my various trips and vacations. I would never be able to part with any of these photos, and therefore, I would guard my laptop with my life.
1. The work of poetry I would pick is The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. This poem is the first story I ever remember fully reading with my grandmother. It became the constant bond between us. Some days when I would spend time at her house I would ask to read it three or four times a day.
2. One song that I would love to hear is This Will Be An Everlasting Love by Natalie Cole. This song has forever made a mark on me personally. My favorite movies growing up were The Parent Trap and A Cinderella Story. This song is featured in both movies. This song reminds me that every little thing in life has an everlasting impact and effect on my life.
3. I would visit my tumblr page one last time. Tumblr is a place to reblog photos. I usually reblog a lot of beach photos. Tumblr has an endless scroll. I would use my endless scroll and reblog as much as possible to show how much beauty and inspiration can be shown through beautiful pictures.
4. My final meal would be a nice big glass of milk with six Oreo cookies. I am a snack kind of person and I love Oreos. Oreos truly are my favorite food. 5. One event I would love to attend one last time is the Saint Mark’s vs. Salesianum football game under the lights at Saint Mark’s. This night was one of the greatest nights to be Spartan. The energy, the love, the excitement, and the passion was felt that night. I was blessed to be apart of that night and would love to relive every moment of it.
6. I would love to know if there is someone in this world that looks like me. Around the world people always say that each person has a twin out there in the world. I would love to meet mine. I believe this statement is true because it has been proven before for so many people and I would love to meet my own.
7. I would love to have a conversation with Bethany Hamilton, the young surfer whose arm was bitten off by a shark while surfing. She truly is a huge inspiration to me. She never gave up hope and I would just love to meet her and gain words of wisdom from her. Seeing her surf is one of my lifetime goals.
8. One last activity I would love to do is go jet skiing with my entire family. Being out on the jet skis is one of the most calming experiences. Out on the water I have no worries, a lot of laughs, and endless memories. Seeing my family, including my grandparents, out on the boats and jet skis is a memory I will forever cherish.
9. I would guard my white baby blanket with my life. That blanket has traveled everywhere. From IKEA to the Outer Banks to many basketball tournaments it is something I truly value. My mom gave it to me the day I came home from the hospital and to this day it rests behind my pillow. It will forever travel with me and rest behind my pillow regardless of how old I am.
1. The last book I would want to read is To Kill a Mockingbird. TKAM is the best book I have ever read and if I knew I was going to die, I would want to read it again. It was so easy to follow and picture and I could not put it down for one minute. Harper Lee, in my opinion, wrote one of the most amazing stories and I would love to read it again.
2. One song that I would want to hear before I die is “Don’t Forget to Remember Me” by Carrie Underwood. This song is so meaningful to me right now because it is about graduation and going off to college. It touches my heart, along with many other songs by Carrie Underwood. If I were dying anything by Carrie would be a good song to listen to.
3. I would have to watch Mean Girls one last time before I died. I can quote every word with my friends and it’s hysterical! This movie is about a group of high school girls and their stupid drama, so I think it is relatable and funny to point out similarities between the movie and my high school.
4. My favorite meal is gnocchi in marinara sauce. I’ve loved it since I was a little girl when my dad would take us to Mrs. Robino’s on the weekends. My mom made me try hers and ever since, I’ve always gotten them. In a way gnocchi reminds me of my mom so if I were dying, I would want that to be my final meal.
5. If I could visit any place in the world one more time, it would be Italy. I have so many good memories from the exchange program and I would want to meet up with the Italian friends that I made. Plus the food there is amazing. I’d definitely have to see the Trevi Fountain in Rome because the fountain is gorgeous and was one of my favorite moments during my trip.
6. I would want to know the cure for cancer. There are so many people in this world, young and old, who have suffered from this terrible disease and it makes me so upset thinking that there is still no cure. Cancer takes too many innocent lives, it’s heartbreaking.
7. One famous person I would want to have a conversation with before I die is Brody Jenner. He isn’t very important and is only famous because of a reality TV show and his family name. However, I have been obsessed with him since the beginning of his show The Hills and he would be perfect to meet before I die.
8. Before I die, one activity I would like to do is go skydiving. A few of my friends have gone and have nothing but good things to say about it. I am always looking for a new adventure and skydiving would be a real thriller.
9. One person that I would literally guard with my life is my new baby cousin Greer. She is so fragile and young and I want her to grow up and have an amazing life just like I have had so far. If anything were to come between that I would have to step in. She is like a baby sister to me and I don’t want anything bad happening to her.
1.If I could read one last poem before I die it would be Ithaca by Constantine P. Cavafy. Although this poem is about life being a journey, it’s not as stereotypical as it might sound. I first read this poem because it was one of Jacqueline Kennedy’s favorite and I admire her greatly. Whenever I read this poem it helps me to prioritize what is really important in my life, and if I were dying or stranded on an island it’s words would help me to stay calm.
2.The last song I would like to hear is Moon River from the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s sung by Audrey Hepburn. I love this song because it reminds me of my cousin Maggie who passed away.
3.The last movie I would watch would have to be A Cinderella Story. It’s not that this movie is amazing; in fact, by cinema standards it’s pretty mediocre. However, it was my favorite movie since I was a little kid, and I’ve seen it, no joke, over two hundred times. It would most definitely cheer me up, and as Holden Caulfield would say, help me reminisce of the ‘good old days’.
4.My last meal would be my Uncle Jim’s famous corn beef and cabbage (plus potatoes, carrots, and soda bread.) It’s an Irish tradition we have, and it’s my favorite!

The Bible, If i was stuck on an island this is the only book I would want to have. It has hundred of little stories within it. I don't really think it would ever get old.

5. tell us one place or event you'd like to visit or attend one more time
The beach. Specifically Dewey Beach. Every summer since I can remember my family goes on vacation in Dewey for a week. My mom's side of the family comes with us. An estimated twenty people all squeeze into a four bedroom house and it is usually the best week out of the entire summer.
6. the answer to one of life's great serious mysteries is given to you--which mystery do you want explained?

Play a softball game that goes into extra innings

9. tell us a prized possession or person[s] that you would literally guard with your life
Any member of my family
I could never imagine seeing anything bad happen to my mom, dad, brother, or sister. I would give up my life for them any day if the circumstances allowed me to.

9.I cannot think of anything that I would literally guard with my life. I am not really attached to any physical item. But, I would fight for my parents and protect them at all costs.
1. If I had one last book to read, I would pick Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk.
2. One song that I would like to listen to one more time would be Million Miles of Water by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. They have been my favorite band for the longest time, and that song is so different and just nice.
3. My all-time favorite movie is 500 Days of Summer. I can quote the entire movie probably because I watch it at least once a week.

7. I would talk to Kurt Cobain because I think he had a very different perspective of the world and the people living in it.

9. I would guard my grandmother’s ring with my life. She gave it to me, and that is the last thing of hers that I have in my possession. I wear it everyday and I never think of taking it off.
1. In the nonfiction book I read, Proof of Heaven, he cites a poem that was attached to the picture of his deceased biological sister. The poem was “When Tomorrow Starts Without Me,” by Margi Harrell. This poem spoke volumes to me when I read it in Proof of Heaven. This final poetry reading before I die, would allow me to die peacefully, knowing that I lived a full life and was on my way to a better place.
2. As many of you who were in Mr. Fiorelli’s sophomore American Literature class with me know, I love Eminem and the song “Lose Yourself.” This has been and always will be one of my favorite songs. It’s so powerful and would definitely keep a smile on my face, even as I drew my final breath.
3. My final viewing of any movie would 100% have to be Bridesmaids. This is seriously the funniest movie I have ever seen. Not only does it continue to make me laugh despite the number of times I’ve seen it, but I could probably recite the entire movie as I was watching it. Melissa McCarthy and Rebel Wilson are the queens of comedy, regardless of what anyone else thinks or says. They could make me laugh even if I was on my deathbed.
4. This one is easy: Spaghetti. Spaghetti has always been a favorite of mine. It’s easy to cook, it’s convenient, and it’s insanely delicious. Spaghetti has been there for me since day one, so it’s only fair for it to be my last meal. Of course, meatballs and a glass of milk are both necessities.
5. Before I die, I need to visit one of these two places: Greece or Australia. I desperately want to see the Australian outback or the amazing architecture of Greece, preferably both. Either place would suffice as my last vacation. I have dreamed about going to these places since I was a little kid.
6. If I could know the answer to one of life’s greatest mysteries, I would want to know if there are aliens, parallel universes, and other planets with civilization like ours out there in the universe and in other galaxies. In addition to that, I would want to know how the galaxies came about. I understand that everything inside the galaxies came from the big bang, but what was there before that? Something had to be there to cause the big bang, right? Things just can’t arise out of nothing. So how did the original universe come about? Something had to have created it, right? It couldn’t have just always been there. And if God created the initial universe, where did he come from….. most of this is kind of incoherent, but it’s hard to put into words something that you can’t even wrap your own head around.
7. I would love to have a conversation with Morgan Freeman. He might actually be the coolest man on the entire planet. I mean, come on, his voice sounds like the booming voice of God. Plus, he has a great sense of humor, so I think we would really get along well.
8. Before I die, I want to experience nature in an awe filled way that brings me to my knees in tears. Maybe seeing the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis), seeing a Hawaiian waterfall, or go scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef. I want to witness something so pure and beautiful that it moves me to tears.
9. In the top corner of my closet, I have an Adidas shoebox filled with treasures – pictures, special birthday cards, notes, little knick-knacks, and other random things. Despite their apparent randomness, they hold significance and value. I have often though that if my house were to catch on fire, this would be the one thing I would grab on my way out. My second prized possession is a book of drawings I started when I was younger. Although I haven’t drawn in it recently, this was the beginning of my love for drawing. It’s also pretty cool to see how my work progressed over the years. This book holds a lot of memories and hours spent under a lamp with a consistently diminishing pencil.
1. The last work of prose or poetry I would want to read is a difficult thing to choose, but I think the most comforting book in my last days would be If I Stay by Gayle Foreman. It is the most stunningly written novel, and it explores all of the beautiful things in life, as well as speaks to the comfort that death might bring.
2. “Little Wing” Jimi Hendrix, or “That’s The Way” Led Zeppelin. Both songs are a little sad, and almost dream-like in their sweetness, and I listen to these songs religiously. They remind me of happier times with my family, and I have wonderful memories associated with each.
3. I would have to pick Forrest Gump as the last movie I would watch. It is the most uplifting film I have ever seen, and obviously if I was dying I would want to make myself happy.
4. My final ‘meal’, which happens to be my favorite meal, would be assorted French breads with different types of butter. I always order this at a restaurant we take my mother to for mother’s day, and the butters there are the most delicious flavors I have ever tasted; there are lavender, lemon, and honey flavored butters, and they are amazing. I also really love bread.
5. I would love to go to another Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros’ concert with my brother and Troby. It was the best night of my life so far. 6. I have always wanted to know where God came from, and what His genesis was, if there was one at all. For all I know He always existed.

8. I would want to climb to the summit of a mountain again. In seventh grade I climbed Mount Blueberry in Vermont, and it was one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. I remember being awestruck by the fact that the base of the mountain was thrush with greenery, and one I reached the apex snow began to sprinkle on my face. The view was the most beautiful thing I have seen in nature too; I could see what seemed like millions of other mountains in the distance. I thought I was literally on top of the world.
9. I would give my life for my brother’s with no hesitation. He has suffered so much, and I have always been protective of him. Joshua deserves to have someone guard him with his/her life, and I would gladly be that person.
1. The last piece of poetry I would want to read before I die is "Oh the Places You'll Go" by Dr. Seuss. The whole message of the poem is about the unpredictable journey that life is. It gives off a message of hope to the reader that whatever happens in the future, everything will be okay. I think that is a good mindset to have when the future of your life is unknown because if you think everything will be okay, you become less fearful and stressed out about death.
2. The song I would love to hear to make me feel better at the end of my life would be "It's a Great Day to Be Alive" by Travis Tritt because it focuses on being grateful for the things you have and looks at the bright side of situations. The song makes me appreciate anything good that I have in my life.
3. A movie that I would want to watch one last time would be "Mean Girls." It's not a serious movie and I do not learn much from it but it’s a classic and it can always make me laugh. Also, I have seen the movie so many times with friends and I quote it so often with them that it has created many funny memories in my life.
4. My final meal would have to be Thanksgiving dinner. This includes turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, rolls, green bean casserole, pumpkin pie, and most importantly, dozens of family members enjoying it with me.
5. I would like to go to the beach for one last time. It doesn’t have to be a specific beach; as long as there is sun, ocean, and sand, it is perfect. The beach is my favorite place I've ever been and it would give me the ability to relax and be happy. The warmth and comfort of the sand makes me feel safe and it allows me to forget all of my worries.
6. Before I die, I would like to have the mystery of where people go after they die explained to me. It would be nice to know where I'm headed and what to expect.
7. A famous person I would want to have a conversation with is Ellen DeGeneres. She is hilarious and she has lived a life filled with so many adventures; it would be interesting to hear about. She is so funny that at least I would be able to laugh before I died.
8. One last activity I would like to do is go to some kind of barbeque or party with family and friends. This barbeque or party would have to same as the relaxed get-togethers that I go every summer. I love these events the most because everyone goes to have fun and forget about any worries they may have.
9. I would guard my family and my close friends with my life. I would never want any harm to come to those people who I love. If any of their lives were in danger, I would not hesitate to give up my own to save them.
1. One poem that I would read one final time would be The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost. I worked on this poem my sophomore year and it has been one of my favorite works of literature ever since. I like this poem so much because of its emphasis on how one should be their own leader and not a follower. One should leave their own trace left in the world by taking “the road less traveled by.” This poem has taught me my life motto to take risks and challenges and enjoy my journey, which is why I would like to read this right before the end of my journey—in hopes that I lived my motto and took “the road less traveled by.”
2. One last song that I would listen to before I die would be The Best Day by Taylor Swift. I would choose this song because of the content and the memories tied into the song. The first time I heard this song was when I was driving to the beach to look for a prom dress with my mom. After the song ended, I found it on the internet and we kept replaying it til we memorized the whole thing. We always sing it at the top of our lungs when we hear it now and if I’m not with her, I always flashback to that early Friday drive to the beach with my mom. I also like the lyrics of the song for example my favorite part, “I have an excellent father, his strength is making me stronger. God smiles on my little (older) brother, inside and out, he's better than I am. I grew up in a pretty house and I had space to run. And I had the best days with you.” I like these lyrics so much because I can relate to my own life.
3. One movie that I would watch one final time would be Love and Basketball. I would watch this movie, not for any sentimental reasons, but because it has been and will forever be my favorite movie. Even though I have seen this movie so many times and know every line verbatim, I still always laugh and cry like it’s my first time watching it. I would want my final movie to be Love and Basketball to enjoy my favorite movie one last time.
4. My favorite meal that I would like to have as my last meal would be my mom’s homemade layered eggplant parmigiana with pasta, caesar salad, garlic bread, and cannolis for dessert. I would choose this because every Sunday my mom prepares a huge Italian dish for my entire family and we invite over my grandparents. Each Sunday we gather around the table, feast, share laughs, and make memories that will last forever. I will always associate these memories of my family with any Italian food which is why I chose an Italian dish as my final meal and specifically eggplant parmigiana because it is my favorite.
5. One place that I would like to be at for one last time would be on my boat at the Rusty Rudder. I would like to go there one last time because whenever I am there, I am surrounded by my family and close friends who are pretty much like family to me. My family’s boat would be anchored right smack in the middle of the lagoon with six other boats stationed around it. We’d have the music blasting and the kids would all be playing in the water or walking to get Grotto’s pizza in Dewey, as our parents sunbathe or walk up to the Lighthouse for some food and drinks. This may not sound like the most exciting place to be but I’ve made so many memories there that I’ll always cherish and would want to spend my last moment with the people that mean so much to me, at the place we all love.
6. One of life's great serious mysteries that I would want explained to me is why the nicest people have to have some of the most traumatic events happen to them. I’ve always wondered why people have to have a family member diagnosed with cancer, or have a parent die, or get paralyzed in a severe car accident. What makes me wonder more is that it’s not just any person, but that it’s someone who already goes through a lot, or is the sweetest student in your class, or someone that could not handle any more than they have going on. I know it’s not fair for anyone to go through with it, but I’ll always want to know why it has to be a specific person, and not someone like me.
7. One famous person that I would want to have a conversation with would be Taylor Swift. I would want to have a conversation with her because I relate to almost every single one of her songs and I think that she could give me advice on some of our similar situations.
8. One last activity I'd like to do would be to go skydiving. I’ve always wanted to do something fearless and I think jumping out of a flying airplane falls under that description. My aunt took my cousin, Jamie, skydiving for her thirtieth birthday and later I watched the film of them doing it. Ever since then I have always wanted to skydive out of an airplane.
9. One prized possession I would guard with my life isn’t really a prized object but it is my dog, Cocoa. I got Cocoa December 19, 2003 and remember every detail of that day. I would want to guard Cocoa with my life because not only do I love her, but I am proud of myself for raising her. Cocoa is technically my family’s pet but I take care of her because I was the one who wanted her. I am proud of myself for being able to raise such a great pet. I also would treasure Cocoa because of all the memories I have with her. Cocoa has created so many memories with my family, friends, and even me that I’ll always want to reminisce back to and remember.
1. One last poem I would like to read would be The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. It is one of my favorite poems, and even though it may be a bit depressing to read on a deserted island, it would be something I would enjoy nerveless. Also, since it’s a longer poem it would give me more time to read it.

7. I would like to have a conversation with Nikola Tesla. I have always like to read about history and great historical figures, and to me I feel as if he has had one of the biggest effects on modern society and technology than anyone. He invented many things, like hydroelectric power, the alternating current, and the induction motor, among other things. He was ahead of his time, coming up with things such as the first radio-controlled vehicle, in this case a boat. The technology and its usefulness was not realized until decades later.
8. An activity I would like to do last is canyoneering. I have done it before and loved it every time. There are not many chances to do it as there are no canyons that I know of that are in the eastern U.S., they are all out in the west. Doing it would kill two birds with one stone as canyoneering includes one of my other favorite activities, rock climbing.
9. An object that I have great value for is my alto saxophone. I have been playing saxophone for almost seven years, and piano for eleven years, but I have fallen out with piano. Music is more than just a hobby to me. Music is a part of my life that will always stick with me, and for me playing saxophone covers that. Maybe in the future I may change what instrument I choose to play, but so far I have stuck with saxophone.
1. The one prose that I would like to be my final reading would be The Glass Castle. This book opened up my eyes to a whole other world. I realized that as bad as you may think you life is, some one else’s is worse. It also taught me that you can do anything that you put your mind to and that is why I would like it to be my final prose.

3. The one movie I would like to see as my last movie would be The Notebook. I am a sucker for a chick flick and The Notebook is the perfect love story. 6. The one mystery I would solve would have to be if we truly stay in heaven for the rest of our lives. I believe that we all die and go to heaven but, it is hard for me to understand if we truly stay in heaven for the rest of our lives. I just believe that there is no way we are in one place for the rest of our lives.
7. One famous person I would like to have a conversation with would have to be Oprah. Personally, I believe that she is a saint. She has helped so many people and touched so many people in different was. She is also so funny and I know she would lift my spirits up.

9. I would take my whole family with me. I wouldn’t be anywhere without them, therefore I would take them all with me no matter what. I wouldn’t be able to just take one of them because I love them all for different reasons and that have all help me in different ways throughput my life.
The final thing I would read would be my favorite book, The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen.
The final song I would listen to would be You are My Sunshine from the music box my mom gave me when I was little because she would always sing it to me and my parents call me ‘sunshine’.
3. The last movie I would want to watch would be Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, it’s been my favorite movie since I was a little kid and still never fails to put me in a good mood.
My final meal would be breakfast, pancakes and eggs and every other breakfast food possible.
I would like to go to Disney World one more time. My family still goes to Disney every year even though my younger sister is now thirteen and my older is twenty. I always find something new and even more magical each time I go. Being in Disney allows me to be a little kid again no matter how old I am.
I want to know what happens after you die.
I would like to have a conversation with Hillary Duff. I’m just really interested in how she didn’t turn out crazy and half bald like all the other child stars. She seems to really have her life together and didn’t let Hollywood get to her.
One last activity I would want to do is dance. I would want to at least take a class or have a studio all to myself to dance. I don’t need music or an audience just one more time to do what I love (as cheesy as that sounds).
I would guard my family and friends with my life. Nothing is more important to me than the people I love.
1.I would have to pick The Princess Bride by William Goldman, because it’s a story I grew up with. My parents used to read to me before bed every night. And because I liked fantasy books so much, my dad read this particular book to me several times, with different voices for each character. Even though I’ve read it countless times, once I start reading it, it’s really hard to put it down.
2.One of my favorite songs is “Carry on Wayward Son” by Kansas, because it’s so driving. I walk around singing this song a lot when I’m home, and it’s really motivating. I like it because of the chords, the shifts in the music, and the harmonies, and while it doesn’t necessarily bring me hope, it would definitely be an inspiration.

8.I would like to play my flute. Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember and the flute was the first instrument I learned. Being able to play the flute one last time would be nice.
9.I would guard my journal with my life. It’s full of drawings and pictures of all of my favorite things, and I take it almost everywhere. It’s already one of my closely guarded possessions, so if it was my only possession I would probably defend it with my life.
1. The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. It was one of the most memorable books I have ever read. I remember every part to that book like I had just read it yesterday.
2. Cats in the Cradle by Harry Chapin. The first time I heard this song was with my dad in the car. He wrote this in memory of his dead son. The song is a sad song and if it was to be my last song it would definitely bring back memories of every stage of my life.
3. Act of Valor- This is my favorite movie and seeing it as my last movie would be great.
4. Eggs Benedict- This is my favorite meal to have. Every time my mom makes it I have about seven. The hollandaise sauce is the best part.
5. Aruba- This is the most beautiful place I have ever been too. To see the caves and the crystal clear water for the last time would be an amazing last sight.
6. What is the meaning of life? This is the question I would like to know because we have no definitive answer.
7. Tom Hanks-The reason I chose Tom hanks is because I like all of his acting in Forrest Gump, Apollo 13, Saving Private Ryan and newest one Captain Phillips. They are all marvelous and to just be able to sit and talk with such a great actor would be an experience of a life time.
8. Skydive- The last thing I would like to do is skydive. I have always wanted to do it and why not get the thrill of skydiving as one of your last activities.
9. My Family-I would hands down guard my family with my life. There is no doubt in my mind that I would give up my life for them.
1. I would want to read the poem "If You Forget Me" by Pablo Neruda. I would choose this poem because whenever I read it, it reminds me that the people who care about me and love me will always be there, and the people act like they care about me and love me would soon forget me if I were to die. It just reminds me to focus on the people who are true to me and forget the ones who are not because they do not deserve my time.
2. I would absolutely love to hear the song Beautiful Soul by Jesse McCartney because it would without a doubt make me feel better. It is a song that always brings me back to my childhood and instantly makes me happy. It reminds me of the carefree days of my childhood when good looks and boys did not seem to be the centerfold of every girl's desires. It makes me remember the days when the carefree and honest personalities of us children is all that mattered.
3. I would watch the hour long episode of Hannah Montana where she has to choose between Jake and Jesse to be her boyfriend because both of them just wanted to make her happy. Not only was this my favorite episode of my favorite childhood show when I was younger, but I love to go back and watch it on iTunes (yes, I bought it to watch on iTunes because I love it so much) sometimes still because it just reminds me of what real relationships are supposed to be all about. It helps me to remind myself that there are some relationships that are formed with moral intentions.
4. My final meal would be grilled salmon with a side of garlic whipped mashed potatoes and angel hair pasta with a garlic butter herb sauce.
5. I would like to visit to Italy one more time. I would just love to go back and relive the carefree Italian lifestyle that was able to let me settle down and enjoy life for a little while again.
6. I would want to know if my small and upcoming cheerleading team was from a big name gym, would we have made it to finals at The 2011 Cheerleading Worlds since competitive cheerleading is extremely politically and we had less deductions than teams that made it to finals?
7. I would like to have a conversation with Carrie Underwood because she is perfect.
8. I would like to go skydiving because its something I have always said that I want to do before I die.
9. I would guard my parents with my life. Since I am an only child, moved 50 miles from my hometown during middle school, started over at a high school where I knew only two people going in, and had to quit the sport that I was most passionate about for so many years because of an injury, my parents are really the only thing/people who have been there for me through it all. Without them, I do not think I would be where I am in life now.
1. The Raven. I have already read it but I never understood it very much. I don’t like prose or poetry but I still found The Raven interesting.
2. Thrift Shop. The song is incredibly annoying now but I cant help but still blast it when it comes on the radio.
3. The original Exorcist. I could do without watching it again because it was actually scary. But it was also cool at the same time.
4. My moms chili. Im not kidding I have never tasted anything better in my entire life. No question if I were to die right now I want my moms chili.
5. I have to say Baja. I’ve always dreamed of being able to compete there someday. Its just something that I would give anything to do.
6. Why girls tell guys they are not mad at them but bring it up in a fight three months later. It will never make sense to me unless somebody were to explain the real reason.
7. Travis Pastrana. He’s just amazing at whatever he does. Whether its dirtbiking or rally car racing he’s pretty good.
8. Meet Shatner. Who wouldn’t want to meet him. Hes awesome.
9. My Challenger R/T hemi. I would rather die than let anybody touch Chloe. Yes my car has a name and its named after my cousin. And yes I seriously would rather die than let anybody touch my challenger
1. One poet I am extremely fond of is Walt Whitman. His style was very radical for the time period and I admire that. His poem Song of Myself is my favorite poet by Whitman. I also like how his poems are centered around the theme of patriotism. His poems are fun to read and very well written.
2. One of my favorite songs of all time is Carry On by Fun. The song has a great, positive message. Even when you are going through a tough time you have to keep going. Fun is my favorite band and I love their songwriting and unique sound.
3. If I had to pick one television show to watch one last time it would be 24. 24 is my favorite show. Eight action packed seasons, twenty four episodes a season, each an hour, making the show’s events occur in real time. 24 keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering how Jack Bauer will save the day next.
4. If I had to pick a final meal it would be Buffalo Wild Wings. I love wings and Buffalo Wild wings have the best wings around. They have so many amazing flavors and great tasting wings. Plus, wings are usually associated with sports, so that’s a bonus too.
5. Every year me and my family visit a resort in the Poconos called Woodloch. This is probably my favorite place to be. It is a perfect combination of relaxation and fun and games. The people are so friendly and the food is so good, you just cannot go wrong there.
6. I would love to know why there is evil in the world. Is evil really necessary? I want to know what it would be like to live in a world full of peace and love, and without evil and sin.
7. If I had to pick one famous person to speak to it would probably be Mariska Hargitary, the actress from Law and Order SVU. Along with her brilliant acting, she is a great person and advocate for peace. She helps young children and has her own charity.
8. If I had to do one last activity, it would have to be going to a baseball game. There is nothing better than walking into a new stadium and sitting and enjoying a game of baseball. My dad and I go to a new stadium every year, and it gets better and better each time. Baseball is almost like an escape for me.
9. I would guard my family with my life. I know that is an easy answer, but they are the people I love the most, and I have no idea where I would be without them in my life.
1. If there was one work of poetry that would bring me inspiration and content it would be Dennis Taylor’s “The Best Thing In Life Is Life Itself.” A close family friend, my second mom, has always lived her life according to this poem. No matter the circumstances, she would always recite this poem to me when I was in tears or feeling unsatisfied. The poem reflects on the uncertainty of life and the obligation we have to enjoy every moment - even the bad moments - because they have shaped who we have become and brought us to where we are in life.
2. “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” by U2 would be my go-to song, without a doubt. Listening to any song by U2 brings back some of the best memories I have because my mom was obsessed (to put it lightly) with the band. But even more so, this song especially speaks to me because it reminds me that as I dance through life I seek to make the most of every day. Through my sins and my greatest triumphs I am constantly loved by God, who never loses faith in me as I try to explore for myself the world and it’s incomprehensible wonder.
3. The movie I would watch one last time would be the Disney classic, Sleeping Beauty. When I was a little girl, I would dance around the living room with my imaginary prince charming. I would hide my eyes when Malificent came on the screen and sing along to every song. It was the fairytale if my dreams.
4. There is no food that could ever compare to Velveeta’s Shell Macaroni and Cheese. When I was a child I lived off of mac n’ cheese. I never ordered anything else out to eat at restaurants - my parents stopped asking me what I wanted before they ordered. As I got older I my taste buds branched out to try new things, but when I became lactose intolerant my lust for mac n’ cheese was unsatisfiable by any lactose-free version that “tasted like the real thing!” It is my go-to food whenever I have a bad day - breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
5. If I could attend any event one more time I would relive my very first regional Irish dancing competition when I was nine years old. My teachers had trained my group of four girls for months to dance on a stage in front of five judges and competing against 250 teams, never expecting that we would make the cut for placement. When the awards were announced and my group was called for 51st place my teachers broke down in tears. We were the first group they had sent to regionals that had placed before and we have placed every year since.
6. If the was one mystery I could have the answer to, it would undoubtedly be the answer to what halpens to our souls after death. Having lost people very close to me to tragedy and cancer, I would wish for reassurance that the afterlife is all they had hoped for.
7. The one person I would love to have a conversation with before I "kick the bucket" would be Ciara Sexton, a multiple consecutive world champion Irish dancer who has nailed the lead role in Lord of the Dance & a new production, Heartbeat of Home. She worked harder than any other dancer to maintain her world title for six consecutive years against many amazing dancers, and had great opposition for the roles in both productions. She never let intimidation discourage her & I would love to ask her how she did it all while remaining so humble.
8. If there was one activity left that I could do I would dance a slip jig. To hear the rhythm and melody would lift my spirits no matter what circumstances I was facing. Dancing would free my mind and my soul from all worries.
9. A sister is a lifelong bestfriend. My sister is the most important person in my life and there isn't anything I wouldn't do to protect her. She is my confidant, my inspiration, and my motivator. I would be truly lost without her.
