Blue Sophs--Vocab Unit 9 due Friday

Rows 1-3 work with words 1-10. Rows 4-6 work with words 11-20. As always, post ten sentences giving contextual clues to the meaning of the words.

1. Jack’s guilty sentence given by the judge wasn’t bad considering he could’ve been put in prison, but instead the judge mandated him to 50 hours of community service.
2. Teachers do not like it when students have a paroxysm in the middle of a lesson; they prefer that you raise your hand and wait to be called on.
3. During my peregrination throughout France, I went site seeing and got to see the Eiffel Tower.
4. Holden says that the auditorium at the Museum of History had a redolent smell of rain.
5. Amy prefers the morning hours of the day over any any time after 8 because the skies are refulgent and not dark.
6. When I was younger, my friends and I would have a shibboleth you had to say in order to get into the tree house and if you did not know the password, you could not enter.
7. You cannot expect a tyro to the road to automatically know exactly what to do, that’s why there are stickers that say “Novice Driver” that they can stick on their cars so you know to take it easy on them.
8. There is no use in trying to calm an angry person down during an argument, they are unremitting and will continue to do so until all of the anger is gone.
9. Someone who has a short attention span might vacillate often while having a conversation with them.
10. For National Women’s Week, we are trying to help stop the vituperative violence against women.

2. Because I live in a rural area of Maryland, I would describe the surrounding farmland as bucolic.

6. The freshman had great potential to be goalie, but she did not take it seriously and acted like a dilettante.

1.After she was done her performance, the pianist received a great acclamation from the audience.
2.After driving through the very upscale part of the town, I was a bit surprised when I saw the bucolic homes just a few miles away.
3.The two candidates continued to calumniate each other thinking they could gain an advantage by putting their opponents down.
4.The little boy was very chary as he looked both ways and crossed the street.
5.After all this time of thinking they were enemies, we learned that they were in collusion planning to surprise us all with their secret relationship.
6.The dilettante comedian was no where near as funny as the professional we had seen just last week.
7.After the unexpected loss of their good friend, I expected them to be more upset but they were surprisingly imperturbable.
8.I taught my sister how to count and skip numbers by using increments of 2, 5, and 10.

1. When the girl returned to school after being sick for so long, an acclamation filled the classroom.
2. Although their farm was fairly close to the city, it had a very peaceful, bucolic characteristic to it.
3. The little boy was calumniated for stealing the little girl's crayon, but it had really just fallen on the floor.
4. My mother is a chary driver, and she doesn't pull out of my neighborhood unless the roads are cleared for a mile.
5. My brother, sister, and I have a collusion to not tell our parents when we get into trouble.
6. The art major was disqualified from the painting competition because it was only meant for dilettantes.
7. When imperturbable boy laughs at a joke, you know it must be extremely funny.
8. Not being satisfied with the size of their house, the couple decided to add an increment rather then move to a different house.
9. When my strict teacher orders us to remain silent, no one fails to listen to her intimidating mandate.

5. The SF Giants and LA Dodgers made a collusion not to sign Zack Greinke; however, the Dodgers broke that agreement when they inked him to a 6 year, $147 million deal.
6. There's no room for a dilettante in this business.
7. Dogs for the blind are trained to be imperturbable.
8. There was a 10% increment in the price of those shoes.
9. The workers were mandated to strike.
10. He received a paltry signing bonus which was barely enough to go out and celebrate for the occasion.

12. The girl's pedantry was appealing to the directors of the company at first because they realized how smart she was, but they quickly grew tired of her pretentious behavior.
13. In one of my favorite movies, The Descendents, George Clooney and his daughter go on a peregrination to Hawaii to search for a man.
14. The smell of the beach and the sound of country music are redolent of all my past summers.

2. I hate when people think they are so much smarter than you so that have to show off by doing a pedantry in front of everyone.
3. The part of the vacation was making a peregrination through the forest to see all of the wildlife.
4. My old family photo album is very redolent and brings backs some great memories of my childhood.

4. Every time I smell lavender, the redolent scent reminds me of when my siblings and I would play tag in the field during summer.

6. The two best friends created a shibboleth for their fort so that only the ones who knew the password could enter and no trespassers could get in their fort.
