Green Class--The Dream vs. The Real Thing

As the Dutch sailors aboard Henry Hudson's Half Moon (name of the ship) saw the New World, Nick imagines that they must have held their breath, "face to face for the last time in history with something commensurate to [their] capacity for wonder."

In your last blog response (200 words or 25 blog line minimum due Thursday, June 2), respond to one of these prompts:

1. Relate a personal experience where the reality matched or exceeded the dream

2. Relate a personal experience where the reality did NOT live up to the dream.

3. So you're not a dreamer by nature and you never get keyed up for anything. How's your life going? Explain what keeps you going, your own road to success.

4. Cast the new movie production of The Great Gatsby, casting the characters of Gatsby, Daisy, Tom, Myrtle, George, Nick, and Jordan Baker. Explain your reasoning. Make sure that Daisy is a "dream" and that Jordan Baker is someone that I'd really like (for her athleticism, of course).

By the way, rumors abound that Leo is set to star in Baz Luhrmann's new production of Gatsby. Luhrmann directed DeCaprio in Romeo and Juliet some years ago.

A dream that did not turn into reality was when I applied to work at sofrito’s on Kirkwood highway. Its not my dream job or anything but the reason I wanted the job is because the money I would make would go towards paying for the rims and tint I want for my car. I applied for the job several months ago and the owner said he would call but never did. This was a letdown because If I would have been hired there I would have made great tips and the pay is 8.50$ an hour which is not bad for a kid my age. So far I still haven’t gotten a job and have zero dollars saved up for my tint and rims. What keeps me going is searching for a job to have in the summer. I recently applied at rita’s and chipotle on mainstreet. My friend owns Margerita’s and they offered me a job so I will most likely work there. Soon enough I will have a job but until it’s set in stone the search is still pending.

2. If you’ve ever been to a carpet store with an indecisive customer you understand the boredom of the large warehouse. After an hour of rolling out different rugs they start to all look the same. Especially when you could care less what one is picked. “Will this match the brown couch?” “Will dad think this is too dark?” I could no longer pretend to care about these questions my mom asked, so I decided to wander around. There was a contest where the winner received five thousand dollars in free merchandise from the store. There were numerous sections with address, emails, phone numbers, etc. Since I had all the time in the world, I entered and put it in the box. Thinking it was a waste of time, but would pass the time. A week later when the store called my house to say our family had won my mom was pleased with what my boredom had caused. Reality was I never thought we’d actually win. It wasn’t necessarily my dream to get free carpet, I don’t think any teenager dreams of nice new tile floors. But it was a great win for my family and very unexpected. The win exceeded my expectations.

2) Over this Easter vacation, I got a job interview at Ritas Water Ice in Newark. I put in so many applications at different places and I was so excited to finally get an interview. I went on the interview and the manager seemed like he liked me. I thought I did pretty well and that I would get the job right away. He told me that he would call me at the end of the week. Days passed and I still received no call. To this day I still have not heard from him about the job. I was very shocked that I did not get the job, especially because the interview had gone so well. I wondered what I did wrong, who got the job instead, and where I would work now. Ritas was the place I really wanted to work because it seemed laid back and fun. I knew some girls who worked there so I thought they would put in a good word for me. I learned through this experience that reality does not always live up to my dreams. I learned to not get my hopes too high, and to maybe try harder to get what I want. I cannot always expect my dreams to come true.

My personal experience that exceeded my expectations was visiting California for the first time. I expected to come upon a land of mediocrity and trees, but soon found out that it was much more than that. There was beautiful scenery in the areas which I traveled and truly was impressed with a place for the first time in my life. I went to San Francisco and walked through Chinatown, saw the Golden Gate bridge. All the while the train which runs through, and around the city would taxi us around. I stayed at a house in Orinda, California. The area, which surrounded the house, was beautiful and extremely pleasant to look at and was a very nice addition to the house, which was already in great condition. I got to go fishing in the San Francisco Bay, which is still one of the fondest memories I have of that vacation. The captain was a quirky, old Vietnamese man who constantly ate celery. I even fell asleep on the front of the boat when it was going back into the harbor. That vacation was the most fun time of my life and I couldn’t have asked more from it, or been with better people who I like to share my time with.

My Family owns a fishing house in Virginia and I always look forward to going there. As the week slowly approaches I get so excited. I find myself dreaming of what the future week will hold.I dream of riding on the boat and catching fresh fish. then the fish caught from that day will then be cooked and the whole family will feast! then later that night the family will stay up really late playing board games and card games. after we are all exhausted from the sun and the hard long day we all go to bed where we hear the sound of the ocean. When you get up the sun is shinning and you have another boating day ahead of you. Some times you go to the beach or for bike rides around the little town. usually reality is much better, however sometimes the mosquitoes and the sun burn can ruin the trip for you. When your spending time with family and friends though the trip can not possibly go wrong.

When I was little, my dream was to go to Disney World. It was all I ever thought about. I would bother my parents all the time to take me. I was even excited to go on the plane. My sister, who is four years older than I,was beyond scared of flying. I kept telling her it would be fun and that she would just love it. Finally, my parents surprised us and told us we were going to Disney. I immediately packed my clothes even though we weren't leaving for another week. Once we were on the plane my ears were bothering me because of the air pressure. I cried the whole flight and held styrofoam cups on my ears the entire time. My sister was content the whole ride. I was so upset she was having a better time than me. I had a great time in Disney however...until I got lost for an hour. I ended up sitting behind the check-in counter for an hour until my parents could get to me. So I am able to say my reality did not live up to this dream of mine to say the least.

I am not a dreamer, but I never get to caught up in reality either. I am the type of person who sets goals for himself and try to achieve it without getting caught up in different obstacles. I’ve alsways have a dream, but everytime I get closer, it becomes a lot more of a mere vison which could end very shortly. Just like in The Great Gatsby, Gatsby dream and love for Daisy caught him in so much trouble and it ended in a diaster. I try not to look in the future but concentrate on the present in order to get stuff done. If I focus on the future and dreams, then I waste so much time dreaming that I get distracted. Currently my life is fine and much better because I can get more work done. Every Morning when I wake up, I think to myself; what would today be like? Anything exciting? I try to find motivation and things to do. My parents and friends are the ones that keeps me going down the road to success and inspires me to do amazing things. They have a major impact in my life. I often look up to my dad and grandmother because of their hard work. My grandmother worked very hard in the fields in China and when My dad turned 12 he started working at her side. Msny years later, they immigrated to America without any Englishand made a living but working in construction sites. Later they opened a chinese restaurant to support my mom and me. My dad’s favorite quote to me is “ Son, don’t look in the future because the more you think about it, the more side-track you become. Always get stuff done before you think about other things.”

My life is doing very well. You want to know how I keep doing what I do? Very well. My road to success is to make my life as interesting as I can legally make it without going against my own values and morals. I work hard because it keeps my life from being boring and I keep trying my best so that I can be a well-rounded individual. I know that my views on reality and dreams are unique to me and others do not need to have my ideas. I never force my ideas or values on others because that would mean I would not unique. Instead, I listen to the ideas of others and take them into consideration so that I can respect them. I choose my friends carefully and I act the way I want to act because I don’t want people to see a fake me. If someone does not like the real me then they just should avoid me. I wish to better myself because I have only 1 mortal life and I want to make it the best on I have.

The thing that keeps me going in life is the inspiration I get from my brothers and sister. Throughout their lives, they have been very successful in sports, clubs, and school. They have received good grades and have all attended the University of Delaware for physical therapy, accounting, and nursing. I want to be able to get good grades and go into college to do nursing. This is my dream job and keeping their success in the back of my mind always pushes me and makes me want to be the best that I can be. My life is going great right now and I am doing well in school. I have all A’s and B’s and I am hoping that this will encourage me to keep doing well in school. I always think about never giving up and always achieving what others say I cannot do. I have a dream of becoming a nurse, buying a house, and raising a family. I stay motivated to achieve this dream by having a family who is an inspiration to me. I try my best and put my best foot forward in everything I do. I try to never give up and look down upon myself. I try hard to focus my attention on the good things in life and not the bad things that will put me in a bad mood. This helps my road to success by keeping me motivated and giving me the strength to achieve my dream.

My life at this point is going very well. The end of the year stress is starting to wear off. I am finishing up my final papers and fighting to be exempt from my finals. The days seem longer but everyday is step closer to summer. I am studying and doing my homework outside. Sitting outside in the nice warm weather helps me to concentrate. I did some reading at the beach this weekend and it reminded me that during the summer I still have to worry about summer reading! You teachers will never let me fully escape from school! For the summer I plan to get a job at my sister's summer camp and spend every possible weekend down at Rehoboth Beach. I also plan on spending a week down in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I am really excited to start my junior year at high school, but knowing that junior year is the most important year of high school sometimes scares me. But I know that I am ready to face the challenges of junior year. Thank you for a great English class this year and I hope you have a nice and peaceful summer!

I think a good choice for Gatsby would be Ryan Gosling. He can pull off the whole suave look that Gatsby is supposed to have. Ryan also has the same mesmerizing smile that Nick describes Gatsby to possess. Joseph Gordin-Levitt would be a good fit for Nick. Nick has to be a refined man, which he pulled off very well in 500 days of summer, who has to be mostly a bystander but still play a part in the story. Considering that Tom is supposed to be a “Hulk” of a man, I thought Lou Ferrigno would be the perfect choice since he literally was a hulk. A girl who sends off a dreamy and beautiful atmosphere just as Daisy does would be Zooey Deschanel. She has all the qualities needed to be Dasiy. She has Beauty, a dream-like quality and she has a very distinctive voice that melts people with every note. Since George and Myrtle have a marriage that is partly just for show and Myrtle is cheating on George I thought Kevin Spacey and Annette Bening would fit that very well. Kevin and Annette had that kind of relationship in the movie American Beauty. For Jordan Baker I would choose Cameron Diaz. She has a sportly look to her and could be a good Jordan.

Choosing to do option number 4, I am going to cast the characters of Tom, Daisy, Gatsby, Myrtle, George, Nick, and Jordan. Each character has it own unique style and personality, making it crucial that the actor and actresses cast to portray them, match their qualities. Tom is a harsh presence, with a big build of a body, and an almost superiority about him. To play Tom, I would cast George Clooney. He has many of the qualities of Tom, and others that he himself might not have, but could easily portray. Daisy, who is "dreamlike" and has a voice like "money" is a hard person to cast because of this elegance. I believe that Reese Witherspoon would make an excellent Daisy. She is a beautiful blonde woman, with an elegance and sweetness about her. Gatsby who is mysterious, rich, showy, and slightly obssesive is another difficult choice. Brad Pitt is immediately the person I think of to portray Gatsby. He is mysterious and could play Jay Gatsby flawlessly. Myrtle, is the "other woman." She has a slightly snobby air about her, and knows no boundaries. I would cast Drew Barrymore as Myrtle. She would be an amazing Myrtle, and could play the part to a T. She could play the demanding, and arrogance of Myrtle greatly. Nick, who is he narrator of the story, is probably the most normal character. He is slightly quiet, but still personable. To play him, I would pick Jake Gyllenhaal. George, who is Myrtle's husband, is a poor man, and tries to do everything to keep his wife happy. He's "so dumb he doesn't even know he's alive" and doesn't even notice what's going on right under his nose. Gerard Butler could play the hardworking and ruffness of George perfectly. Lastly, is Jordan Baker. She is a golfer, sporty, yet still attractive. To portray Jordan, I would pick Jessica Biel. She is sporty, yet pretty. Her body type is exactly that of a golfer, slim yet muscular in all the right places. She would make an excellent Jordan. This is my cast for The Great Gatsby, and who knows, maybe it'll end up in the remake.

At this point and time, my life is going well, but of course there is always the end of the year stress. Even though summer is right around the corner, my teachers are still teaching us new material. The school days seem to be dragging out and knowing that everyday brings me closer to summer is a good feeling. It’s hard to believe that my sophomore year is almost over. Now I know why people tell me to enjoy my high school years because they go by fast. I find it hard to believe that I can drive by myself in less than a month. This summer is going to filled with many new experiences. I hope to have a part time job and meet new people. Another thing that makes me happy is knowing that my junior year of high school is write around the corner. I know junior year is a lot of work, but to me it is a new chapter in my life. I am very sad to see my sophomore year end, but i have some great memories and hopefully there will be even more next year. I can't wait for the last day of finals when my life will be stress free.

If I were casting characters for the new Gatsby movie, here is who I would choose. I would cast David Beckham as Gatsby because of his charm and perfect smile. I would cast Reese Witherspoon as Daisy because she has blonde hair and is good at playing ditsy blondes. She was Elle Woods in Legally Blonde and did an excellent job. Tim McGraw would make a good Tom because he is scruffy and muscular. His accent would add to the part. I would cast Drew Barymore as Myrtle because she is a good actor and would do a good job portraying the character Myrtle. Jake Gyllenhaal would be a good Nick. His looks and class would be good for the part. Gerard Butler would be a good George because he can be calm but also crazy. Jojo would be cast as Jordan because she is good at playing a tomboy.

If I was the new movie director for The Great Gatsby, I would have the perfect cast. Gatsby would be played by Ryan Gosling because he is a very quiet and clever looking person who has a lot of charm and a great smile. Daisy woulod be played by Julianne Hough who is a dancer and country singer, who has a sweet southern accent. Tom would bbe pplayed by Ryan Reynolds because he looks tough and is muscular like you would picture in the book. Myrtle would be played by Drew Barrymore because she fits the part well, she can be a little snobby at times. George would be played by Shia LeBeouf, because he is a quiet type like George. Nick would be played by Jake Gyllenhaal because he has honest eyes. Jordan would be played by Ashley Greene because she is a plain -but nice looking- girl.

In recasting The Great Gatsby I would choose Brad Pitt to play the role of Gatsby because he is a very wealthy man who is also looked at as very charming and good looking. For the role of Daisy I would choose Jennifer Aniston because she is amazingly beautiful and I think she is the definition of a dream girl in my mind. Next, for the role of Tom I would cast Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson due to his inhumane strength and his daring good looks. For the role of Myrtle I would choose Oprah Winfrey due to her history of having such a “fierce vitality” always trying to improve her life in the most dire of situations. For George Wilson I would be tempted to choose Mark Wahlberg due to his career in movies as being part of the lower class in society and fighting for his loved ones and himself, just as he did in the movie Four Brothers. Nick would be the hardest one to cast I believe I would have to cast Toby Maguire not only because there is talk about him playing the role of Nick in the possible remaking of The Great Gatsby but because his superb job in playing Spiderman constantly fighting between fiction and reality just as Nick does with Gatsby. Finally, for you Mr. Fiorelli I would cast the former leading Australian Professional golfer Jenny Sevil, all because of her pure athleticism… and it doesn’t hurt that she is a sight for sore eyes.

Last summer my friends and I were going to a summer field hockey camp at Cape Henlopen beach. We were all really excited and spent many hours on the phone together discussing what we were packing and talking about how fun it was going to be. The day finally came, and we all drove down separately. When we met at our cabin it was an immediate disappointment. It was a very hot cement room no bigger than my bedroom. There were bugs flying around everywhere. Not ready to give up on our hopes of having a fun time at the camp, we kept our heads up and went to dinner in the mess hall. We were once again disappointed when the food was terrible. Sleeping that night was very hard because of the heat and none of us got much sleep. The next day, we had to go through a whole day of field hockey in the hot sun with such a lack of sleep. The rest of our days there went along a similar pattern. Little sleep, bad food, sweltering in the hot sun, and so on. The only highlight of our days was getting an hour of beach time everyday. However, we had to walk very far from the camp to get there. By the time we got there, we had little time on the beach. Needless to say, the day we left was one of the happiest days of our lives. Now we look back on the experience and laugh, so it seems worth it.

If I was to make a new movie cast for The Great Gatsby I would chose the following. For Jay Gatsby I would choose Channing Tatum because the women love him, he has a smooth talking voice. Also he has a lot of money, he’s very attractive and he does not really flaunt his money. For Daisy I would do Cameron Diaz because she’s pure and can be really flirty. Also she’s is really attractive. I would use
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Tom because The Rock is a big muscular guy and he played football in college for University of Miami. The Rock can also play the mean guy role. As Jordan Baker I would use Natalie Gulbis. Natalie Gulbis is a Professional Women’s Golfer that is a very beautiful woman. Jordan was also a golfer in the movie. To me, Kevin Costner would play a good Nick Carraway. Kevin Costner is a good Nick because Nick asked a lot of questions and thought about a lot of things when it came to Gatsby and his life. In Field of Dreams Kevin acted as a farmer who ask a lot of question and had to figures things out on his own, kind of like Nick. Zach Galifianakis could play the role as George. George wasn’t a really smart guy but he was a nice guy and Zach Galifianakis is the same way but he also can be really funny. Lastly Angelina Jolie would be my Myrtle. Myrtle to me was a good looking lady but was also on the crazy side to me, and in the past we have seen Jolie play the roles of being a crazy lady and the really sweet and attractive wife. This would be my new movie cast for The Great Gatsby.

If I were to recast The Great Gatsby I would make a lot of changes. For Jay Gatsby, I would cast Jason Statham. The reason that I would cast Jason Statham as Gatsby is because he is good looking, woman LOVE him, he is mysterious, and has that smooth way of talking. Statham has a lot of money and has a big house, but he doesn’t flaunt his money to everyone. He just uses it for the woman he loves. The twenty first century Daisy would be Reese Witherspoon. Reese Witherspoon resembles Daisy because of her light skin and her beautiful blonde locks. Reese has a distinct voice that makes you want to listen to her all day. For Tom, I would cast Vin Diseal. Diseal is very built and has the appearance of Tom. He is a great actor and could pull off Tom’s arrogance. Mandy Moore would play Myrtle because Moore is a light heavy and when I think Myrtle, her face comes to my mind! For her husband George, I would have Robert Pattinson play him. I would do this because in real life, Pattinson seems like a genuine and kind of shy guy looking for the best in everyone! Nick Carroway would be played by Justin Long. Long has played many rolls where he has to be the “good guy” and that’s what he would be playing in this movie. Last but not least, the actresses that would play Jordan Baker is Charlize Theron. (look her up Mr.Fiorelli!) She is blonde, she has a sporty look, and most of all she is absolutely stunning! This would be my All-Star cast of the modern version of The Great Gatsby.

3) In my life, what keeps me going from day to day, is the idea that my future has no boundaries and everyday is a stage for me to be myself and make it my own. Also, the hope of possibly changing someone’s outlook on life, or making their life just a little bit easier any chance I get. Now, this idea of life is easier said than done, but it helps to be optimistic, care free, and tolerant of others. You have to be willing to say yes to life and take any chance you get to try a new experience or adventure because it could lead you to greater things. I believe life is a book and you are the author. You, yourself, are the main character and you get to choose your friends, enemies, and how to react to every action in this book. You never know when your die to go will be, so treat every day like it’s your last and have no fears. Fears make you stray away from experiences that could lead you to a better life. Always be yourself and don’t change for anyone. You were given your personality and characteristics for a reason, and it’s your job to use these appliances to better yourself and everyone around you. Give out a random compliment, or smile or just do a simple good deed for someone and it will makes a bigger difference than you think in that persons mind. It reassures them that people still have some goodness in them. You may not agree, but I personally think karma is real. So always be willing to help others because in the long run, life might gift you a little help up once in awhile. Just always remember, life is how you make it, and nobody else’s decision but your own.

I am not a dreamer so what gets me through life is my family, friends, and dance. My family is a big part because they are always there for me and always will be. No matter what happens I know I can always trust and count on them. They encourage me to do the best I can in all I do whether it is school or dance or anything. My sister Lauren is the one who gets me through the most because I look up to her and I know I can go to her with anything like when I need help with my homework she is always there ready to help me. She is my best friend and I could not imagine going through life without her by my side. Also my friends are a big part because they are also always there for me. My friends are there for me in my best times and in my worse times. The cheer me up when I’m down and help me get through everyday with there support. Dance also gets me through life because its my passion and my sport. When I go to dance I forget about everything else happening in school, with my friends, or with my family and think about what I’m trying to accomplish.

The cast of Gatsby would include Brad Pitt as Gatsby. He would be good for the role because he is a well-known prominent figure in society and very popular. Everyone knows who he is as do they know who Gatsby is. Megan Fox would play Daisy because she is a popular, attractive actress presently. People seem to be smitten by her looks and are drawn to her, just like people are drawn to Daisy. Keanu Reeves would play a good Nick because he seems like a pretty mellow person. He seems to get along with everyone and be very down to earth, respectable, and honest. Tom would be played by Billy Zane. He appears to play villains often and has an attitude in which he thinks he is better than others. He would play a good Tom because he acts as if he has authority over others in his roles often. Myrtle would be played by Vanessa Williams. She would be suitable because he often plays a reckless character that will do whatever it takes to get what she wants. She likes to have a lot of men and is not always loyal to her husband while in character. Jordan Baker would be played by Jessica Biel because she often portrays a tough character, in which she is her own person and does whatever she wants. She would play the careless character of Jordan well because of these attributes.

If I were to recast the movie of Great Gatsby, I would cast Clint Eastwood in his younger years, as Jay Gatsby because he was very mysterious when he played Dirty Harry. Even his smile, is mysterious and an eye catcher, just like Gastby’s was. I would cast Raven Symone as Myrtle, because she’s heavyset, but carries her weight well. She’s also very pretty and liked to party in her show “That’s So Raven.” I would cast Justin Long as Nick. I would cast Justin in this role, because in many of the roles he plays, he is a genuine, average looking guy. Michelle Wie would play a really good Jordan Baker, because she is a female golfer and is very pretty. Also, she is one of your favorites. I would cast Scarlett Johansson as Daisy, because she’s pale, pretty, and has a different kind of voice. She is known to play a very attractive, flirtacious girl. Chris Brown would be casted as Tom because he beat up Rihanna, just like Tom hit Myrtle. Chris is also a well-built guy like Tom, and can be seem as a jerk, and kind of intimidating. Hayden Christensen would be casted as George, because of his blue eyes and innocent look. In Star wars, he plays a good guy that turns bad. In the Great Gatsby, George is a good guy, until he kills Gatsby.

1. Relate a personal experience where the reality matched or exceeded the dream

Last year, my family and I went on a cruise. I didn't really want to go, but it was my sisters graduation present so i had to go. As we got closer to departing Delaware and starting the actually cruise,i got more and more excited. As soon as the cruise started, I immediately loved it. There was so much to do. You could go in either of the three pools they had, you could go rock climbing, and go to any wide variety of shows. There was a belly flopping contest, a mens sexiest legs contest, and even an American idol contest. My family and I went to Haiti, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and the Dominican Republic. We did a lot of really cool things at the islands like go ziplinning, exploring through caves and mountains, scuba diving, and we even went to one of the most famous beaches in the world. This cruise exceeded my expectations by far. Now every time someone asks me what i want to do for vacation, i say a cruise. I also would recommend a cruise to anyone who would like to have a lot of fun, and just enjoy the company of their family and friends.

I’m not a real dreamer; however, my life is going fine. I have food on the table fresh water and a warm bed to sleep in at night. This idea of it can always be worse keeps me going. I could be poorer or sicker, but I’m not and I am grateful for it. This notion allows me to carry on my path to success. This mentality also allows me to be never really be brought down. Also I believe in luck. This is mostly because I am relatively lucky, and thing usually turn out in my favor and I rarely fail. This is essentially how I keep going, and it is working. I usually don’t like discussing my philosophies because I feel that people who dream won’t like them. Even with all my other ideas I still do have one dream. I want to become a micro biologist and develop cheap medicines for third world countries to use and I also hope to eventually cure AIDS and HIV.

If I where to cast a movie for Great Gatsby I would first start with Brad Pitt as my actor for Jay Gatsby. Brad Pitt is a handsome man who just looks like money. He dresses nice and has a nice smile. For the casting of Nick I would use Justin Long he just seems like a normal guy. For the casting of Tom I think Vin Diesel, he is a big hulking guy, he does not look like money but he fits the physical nature of Tom. A person that would be a good Jordan would Anika Sorenson she is a good golfer, but I do not think she ever cheated as a golfer. A good George would be Daniel Craig; he looks like a worker and has those big blue eyes. Kristie Alley would be a good Myrtle, she is kind of on the heavy side and she is an ok actress and she is coming off that successful stint on dancing with the stars. A good Daisy would be Jessica Simpson, I believe she is from the south and even if she is not she is an actress so she could do that nice southern accent.

For Gatsby I would cast Paul Walker because he may seem tough but he is a very caring person when he acts and he also is sort of a suave like person like Gatsby. For Daisy I would cast Eva Mendes because she is a dream girl to almost every man just like Daisy was the dream girl to Gatsby. For Tom I would cast Jason Stathom because he is a tough and sneaky person just like Tom was with Daisy. Myrtle would be Reese Witherspoon because when she acts she can be melodramatic or any personality you need her to be like Myrtle was. George I would cast Dolph Lundgren because he seems like the person that wouldn’t be mentally stable if something went wrong like when Myrtle was killed. For Nick I would cast Mathew Mcconaughy because he was a loyal friend and sort of looked up to Gatsby as a mentor of sort. Finally I would cast Megan Fox as Jordan because she’s a temptress that was constantly tempting Nick to be with her till he finally had enough and told her his true feelings.

Reality rarely ever exceeds or matches the dream. However, I was lucky enough to have an experience that was both. When I went to Greece, it did not just meet my expectations- it exceeded them. I had never been out of the country before so I was both excited and nervous to go halfway around the world, especially without the comfort of my family. The scenery there was far better than I could have ever imagined. It's one thing to see clear blue water and white sand in pictures, but to actually sit on the beach is a whole different experience. Because the group got to stay with host families we were all able to learn so much more about teenage life and the Greek culture. I didn't expect to learn so much! The way people drive there is scary, I was surprised I didn't see any accidents! Teenage life is a lot less supervised and strict. Most kids do what they want whenever they please. That part was fun while I was there, but I know I wouldn't want that much freedom all the time. Also, the food was out of this world! I couldn't believe how good it all was. I probably ate enough carbs to last me the rest of my life. The beginning of my trip was an emotional hurdle due to the fact my host family and I did not get along, but after being moved to a different home I had such an amazing time. The hardship taught me patience and tolerance and that I need to speak up when something is wrong. I don't like to look at the negatives of the trip, so I find myself thinking of only the good things that came out of the situation. It made me appreciate my family and what we have so much more. I learned to be independent because I had to make decisions all on my own based on finances and other "grown-up" things. I believe I grew more responsible as a result. I went to Greece expecting beautiful scenery and to learn a little history about the Gods, but it was a whole difference experience. I witnessed some of the most amazing sights I believe I will ever see. I made so many new friends that I will remember for the rest of my life and that I miss so much. I got comfortable and adapted to the ways of Greek life and I felt like I belonged. It was an adventure that few will ever get to experience, and for that I feel so lucky and grateful. Reality was definitely better than my dream and I will remember it forever.
