Yellow Class--The Dream vs. The Real Thing (final soph blog)

As the Dutch sailors aboard Henry Hudson's Half Moon (name of the ship) saw the New World, Nick imagines that they must have held their breath, "face to face for the last time in history with something commensurate to [their] capacity for wonder."

In your last blog response (200 words or 25 blog line minimum due Thursday, June 2), respond to one of these prompts:

1. Relate a personal experience where the reality matched or exceeded the dream

2. Relate a personal experience where the reality did NOT live up to the dream.

3. So you're not a dreamer by nature and you never get keyed up for anything. How's your life going? Explain what keeps you going, your own road to success.

4. Cast the new movie production of The Great Gatsby, casting the characters of Gatsby, Daisy, Tom, Myrtle, George, Nick, and Jordan Baker. Explain your reasoning. Make sure that Daisy is a "dream" and that Jordan Baker is someone that I'd really like (for her athleticism, of course).

By the way, rumors abound that Leo is set to star in Baz Luhrmann's new production of Gatsby. Luhrmann directed DeCaprio in Romeo and Juliet some years ago.

In the Great Gatsby when Nick made a comment about the Dutch sailors. They were aboard Henry Hudson’s Half Moon seeing the New World was like a dream. It exceeded their dreams of what the New World would be like. In my life I have had dreams and some of them have come true. The most recent one that I experience was when I turned sixteen. I sent out invitations to my friends about having a simple bowling party. I did not expect anything too over the top or exciting. I just wanted to hang out with my friends for my big day. But that wasn’t the case in the end. My family and my boyfriend were going to go to dinner before we went to my bowling party. We were going to go to a nearby restaurant called Tony’s. I was ready to leave by a certain time, but my mom kept insisting just a few more minutes. It didn’t occur to me that anything was suspicious. So eventually we left home and arrived at the restaurant. When we went inside my mom said come here and started walking to the back of the restaurant. I thought she was going to show me the bathroom or something. I was thinking in my head, “What the heck is she doing? This is really weird.” But then she walked straight back into a back room enclosed by a decorative curtain. Then my brain started to register what was going on. I stepped into the room and BOOM! There were a lot of people in the back shouting, “Happy birthday!” I saw my friends and some family. The room was decorated in my two favorite colors, pink and orange. I was really surprised and the room seemed hazy in my eyes because I couldn’t make myself focus… yes, this was real. Everyone was coming up to me and saying happy birthday and how it was a surprise party. I asked anybody that was standing near me at the time, “So…. We aren’t going bowling right?” I was just too surprised to even speak for awhile. Later, I was told my face was quite animated when this happened. I didn’t know what to say or do except keep smiling. I couldn’t keep the grin off of my face. It was just too crazy. I kept saying thank you and I was looking at all the decorations and I saw presents in the back of the room. It was amazing. My mom wouldn’t stop taking pictures, but I didn’t care. I wanted to remember this day. I say all my really close friends there, my grandparents, my aunt and uncle, my parents, and my friend’s parents. It was amazing. Little did I know that the mastermind behind this extravaganza was my best friend, Missy. She helped the whole thing come together and I didn’t get suspicious about it. Not even once. I kept giving her big hugs because I didn’t know how else to thank her. It was really awesome. She is an amazing friend. She helped to do this for me?!” This was all I could think about. It was a great party. I had a dream that my sixteenth birthday would be a great one. This completely exceeded my dreams. I felt so lucky and blessed. It had to have been my best dream that came true, yet.

3. Although I don’t have any huge dreams for my future, there are some aspects in my life that keep me going. Some of these aspects that encourage me to pursue my life as a teenager to the fullest would be my friends, my family, and my academics. First, my friends are my absolute motivators. This summer I’m going to move down to Fenwick Island beach and work all summer. At first I wasn’t too happy with the plan, considering that would be a summer away from my friends. I would live with my grandmother the whole summer and it wont be easy to commute back and forth from the beach. Although I am excited to make money and start taking on more responsibility, it can be very scary too. My friends have been here to support me, and all of my decisions I made for this summer. They are here to constantly tell me that everything is going to be okay. Their positive words keep me going throughout this week before I have to leave for the summer. Second, my family has support my decisions for this summer as well. My family is always there for me no matter what it is. For a while, my academics weren’t the best and I was really upset about it. I’m the kind of girl that likes to have my grades high, and be in a position where my grades are good enough for a few mistakes towards the end of the year. My family is always there to help. Studying for tests, reading over materials with me, helping with projects, and making sure I allow enough time for homework each night. They greatly impacted my road to success. Thanks to my family and friends, my academics also keep me going. When my grades are high, and I feel like I’m comfortable with where I am in school, I have the motivation to succeed in other areas. All of these factors have kept me going on my road to success.

3. Although I’m not a big dreamer, there are many little things that keep me going. Some things that keep me moving forward in my life are my family, friends, and sports. My grandmother has recently had a stroke it has affected my whole family. She can no longer speak normally but the little words she can still say like “I love you” make a world of a difference. This is something little along with her occasional smiles that keep me going on and shows me what really motivates me in life. My friends also find ways to encourage me and keep me on my path to success. I’ve been friends with Andrea since kindergarten and knowing that she will always be there for me like the past 11 years is what keeps me going. Its not always about dreaming what the future holds that keeps me motivated, its sometimes what has happened in the past that really means the most. One of the main goals for cheerleading was winning state champs for the fourth year in the row. Although that’s what we really wanted to accomplish, something that meant more to us was uniting as a team and stop all the arguing. This little thing turned out to be exactly what we needed to win state champs. After we all came together as a team, we ended up accomplishing what we wanted to from the beginning.

My life is going good right now, school is tough because the year is almost over and all the teachers are cramming projects and papers at the last minute. Although school is hard I'm am still giving it my all because i want to skip the finals instead of having to stay for the last three days. I want to be accepted into the University of Delaware which is what keeps me going. I have studied hard for all my tests and quizzes this year in order to get a good GPA for college. Right now i am stressed out due to all the research papers that i have to write and all the tests i have to take. Every week i do things that allow me to relax such as playing darts on Tuesday, and i enjoy hanging out with friends on the weekends. These things keep me going, the things that are fun allow me to try hard in school. I always look forward to the summertime which is my favorite time of the year. During the school year i try my best to get good grades and study as much as I can so i can make the best of my life. This whole year i have gotten all A's and B's which is my main goal during the school year. My own road to success can be reached through hard work and determination. With all this work i hope to get into a good college and that is what keeps me going.

In life, there are obstacles and roadblocks that get in the way of what we are really planning to do. These challenges are always an issue but with many motivations to get me through them I always can keep myself going. Family is one of the biggest motivators to me. No matter what I do in life they always encourage me to keep pushing on and they are always proud of me in both my successes and failures. Their support and love are the biggest motivation to me because I know they believe in me so it tells me that I should believe in myself. Friends are another great motivator in my life. Without them, I do not know where I would turn. Their advice and support is one of the biggest factors of getting me through the toughest parts of my life and I am truly grateful that they care about me and give me advice that no one else in my family can match. Some other motivations in my life are music and sports. With music, I can find a song that matches how I am feeling at the moment and I know that someone else has gone through this and it is going to be okay. Also sports are another factor that keep me going. I always look forward to matches and games and tournaments for softball and volleyball and that is motivation alone to want to be a part of something that makes me feel good. Also, being on a team is like a support system built in because you have to grow together as a family and they help me through so much in my life. All of these factors in my life are true motivators to me and I do not know where I would be without them.

I am not a big dreamer and I do not get keyed up for a lot. My life is going pretty smoothly. If I had to pick three things that keep it going, they are family, friends, and volleyball. My family is extremely close and very big. My mom and dad both have three siblings, which explains why I have so many cousins. My mom is one of my best friends. I literally tell her everything and she definitely is a reason my life is going so smoothly. I have many friends in school and out of school because of volleyball. My friends are there for me whenever I need them. Without my friends, I would not be living such a luxurious life. Volleyball affects my life twenty four- seven. Volleyball can get hectic and frustrating with losses, but my team is like a family. My volleyball team is always there to pick me up when I am upset with my play and cheer for me when I am succeeding. My volleyball experiences could affect my life negatively if I did not have such a loving and caring team. My family, friends and volleyball are definitely three main reasons my life is following the right path.

A personal experience where reality did not live up to the dream was when I went to the Grand Canyon in Arizona. I thought it would be cool to see the amazing view of the canyon. However, it did not seem as great as I imagined it. The bus ride to the canyon was about five hours. Due to that I had to wake up four o’clock in the morning to get the bus to a stop where see if you are on the list to go to the Grand Canyon. Then you get on another bus that takes you to the Hoover Dam. Then you would take the same bus to a stop at the bottom of the canyon where you get on a different bus that takes you to a gift shop. Then you take another bus, which finally takes you to the Grand Canyon. By this time I did not even want to see the canyon anymore. After seeing enough of the Grand Canyon we took the bus back to our hotel in Las Vegas. We arrived at the hotel at three o’clock in the morning and I just wanted to forget about the trip to the Grand Canyon.

A personal experience where the reality did not live up to the dream was when my soccer team did not win the State Cup finals. My dream was for my team to win state finals, but for the past six years we have received second place. Our dream was to win this tournament and to then go to regionals. At regionals we would play teams all over the east coast, and if our team won that then we would go to nationals and play for the national championship. The national championship is the ultimate dream for my team, but there would be a very slim chance of ever reaching the goal of this dream. This year my dream is still able to be achieved on Saturday, in a game against the Hockessin Heat. If we win this game my dream from when I was 10 years old will be fulfilled.

My life is going well right now. School is almost over and there has been a lot less class work to do lately. I feel completely ready for summer and to put down my school books and relax. I'm not worried about being exempt from any of my classes because I know that i'm not close enough to be exempt from any of my classes except for spanish. My tendency to procrastinate keeps me going because it forces me to feel last minute pressure and causes me to finish my work on time. The fact that school is almost over also keeps me going because I know that i'm almost at my summer vacation and also a necessary break from school work. I know that if I just hold out a little longer it will be worth the effort because how rewarding summer break can be. The thought of being on a beach and relaxing is enough to push me forward and keep me moving through the boring life in high school.

My life is good right now. But I am very stressed by all of the work I have to do as the school year is coming an end. I have many research papers but have finished some of them ahead of time. I enjoy spending time with all of my friends on the weekend and just relaxing during the week. My pool was opened last week and I finally went in it yesterday. It felt so great and I can’t wait to go in it this summer with my friends. Summer will keep me trying to get an A for my classes for the year so I will not have to take some finals. And by doing that, summer will come a couple of days earlier for me. I have tried very hard in middle school and high school and have gotten second honors every year so far. I hope to continue doing this throughout the rest of my high school career. By doing this, I hope to get in a good college and continue on to get a good job. I am currently trying to get a job at Acme for summer and stay with that through the next couple of years. All of these things keep me trying in school and in my life.

While St. Mark’s football players strive to accomplish their goal of winning the annual game against Salesianum, other athletes, such as dancers, train to win the most physically and emotionally demanding annual competition called Starpower. Every night my dance team and I had rehearsals to perfect every aspect of our routines in order to win the first place trophy. In addition to team routines, many dance studios select their most dynamic and powerful dancers to submit a solo into the competition. Solo candidates are eligible to win the highest, most honorable title, “Miss Starpower.” Although the title its self expresses in words a dancers wonderful talent, it also comes with prizes such as two tickets to Los Angeles, an opportunity to model in the Urban Dancewear Costume Catalogue and a meeting with the top L.A. talent agents. In my competition over Memorial Day weekend I competed my solo, “The Way You Look Tonight,” by Maroon Five along with approximately 35 other girls and boys. At the awards ceremony, the screams of the proud dancers faded to a hush as the title winner was being announced. The second runner up for the title of Miss. Starpower was announced and after a pause that seemed like hours, the audience discovered who the first runner up was. As I heard the judge slowly pronounce my name into the microphone, I realized I had won second place out of the entire competition. Although I was ecstatic to win first runner up for the title in a huge competition, it was disappointing because I did not walk away with the label “Miss Starpower.” This real life situation can relate to Gatsby’s attempt to win the competition against Tom to get Daisy. Throughout the novel, it can be suspected that Daisy and Gatsby might end up as a couple because their relationship keeps growing stronger. However close to the end, Daisy realized that she did once love Tom and decides to stay with him for the rest of her life, leaving Gatsby alone in his mansion. My feelings were similar to Gatsby’s throughout the duration of the competition because like Gatsby, I was hoping that I could win my dream of winning the title and most importantly, become a known dancer. Similar to my situation, Gatsby came close to winning Daisy’s heart but walked away with the second place trophy as she decided to stay married to Tom.

A personal experience that matched or exceeded a dream for me was when the 2011 St. Mark’s football team won the State Championship. I have been playing football since the sixth grade-my parents wouldn’t let me play until then- and I love the game. When I completed grade school and moved on to St. Mark’s I wanted to continue on with my football career. I knew St. Mark’s football team had a good reputation and that almost every year they would make it to the playoffs. This made me realize that football in high school was no easy task. I soon learned that the good reputation came with a price-hard work. Freshmen year I was only on the freshmen football team, which has no real connection to the junior varsity and varsity teams. But seeing the varsity football team go all the way to the State Championship and lose to our greatest rival, Sallies, was just heartbreaking. Seeing our team fall short seemed almost unreal. How did this happen? I asked myself. After all, the senior players seemed more like super heroes to us freshmen then actual humans. Who could have guessed that they could be defeated? After that game it was made clear to us soon to be sophmores that the goals made this past year were to be achieved next year. Just cause we fell short this time does not mean we cannot succeed next fall. So the work began, the juniors became the seniors, the sophmores the juniors, and us freshmen, no longer the little guys on campus. We worked our tail ends off, five days a week, from that winter till September 9th-Milford. The first game of the 2010-2011 season. We went on to win that game and every other game that season until we finally reached the playoffs. After achieving a first round By-week, we started to prepare for our first playoff game. Win after win, round after round we finally made it to the last game, The Delaware High School State Championship. First quarter, we were getting crushed. Middletown seemed to be unstoppable. They were out playing, out working, and outscoring us all the way into the third quarter. Halftime: The locker room, senior captains Brad and Jake stand up, there is silence throughout the room. The coaches are outside discussing the game plan. Brad looks around the room slowly, staring at each of us one at a time, individually. No words needed be said, his stare said it all. The team stood up together, we all came close, as to not miss the next epic words that would be released by Brad. The words he spoke were spine-chilling, he yelled at us, told us we were Spartans, that we do not accept defeat, that we have worked too long and too hard to just give it all up now, that we would not lose this game. So together we walked slowly out of the locker room, suddenly extremely confident and collected. There were no more worries, victory was inevitable. We rushed on to the field, ready to take what we deserved. We went on to win that game, after staging an almost impossible comeback in the fourth quarter. Yet somehow it did not seem impossible to us players. After the game felt like a dream, it was exactly how I had imagined it. The reporters and cameras and tears and hugs, all of it, till slowly we made our way back to the buses. And it was over.

One personal experience where the reality did not live up to the dream was the time I visited Niagara Falls. My family and I went with our close friends up to Niagara about two years ago. When we arrived at the hotel, my friend and me hung out and we went on the water slides, which was fun. Then the next day we went to see the waterfalls. It was a cool sight to see, especially at night when the lights were shown on the waterfalls creating an extravaganza of different colored water. But in reality, besides being a nice sight, Niagara Falls is not all that special, once you realize it is just another waterfall. Perhaps it is one of the biggest in the world, but it is still just a waterfall, which is very common and easy to find, even if they are not big. After that, we went under the waterfalls. Sure, it was pretty cool, but it was wet and cold and just unpleasant to spend hours under. My visit to Niagara Falls is an example of where the reality did not live up to the dream. Even though it may be considered a wonder of the world, which I agree that it is a cool sight to see, once you realize that it is just a Waterfall it is really not all that special, and not what many would dream it to be.

If I was to cast the new movies production of the Great Gatsby the most important characters would be Gatsby, Daisy, Tom, Myrtle, George, Nick, and Jordan Baker. I would have Pierce Brosnan play the part of Jay Gatsby because he is mysterious and sophisticated. I think that this part was made for him. For the character of Tom the actor I would choose would be Kiefer Sutherland. I would choose him because he is very determined and he isn’t a pushover. Hugh Laurie would play the part of George because he is a good round actor and looks like he would fit the character of George. Tom hanks would be the actor to play nick caraway because he is a strong actor and I think he would fit that role. For the character of Daisy I would choose Reese Witherspoon because she would fit in with the other cast of characters in this movie. Renee Zellweger would be the character for myrtle because she can play many different roles. For the character of Jordan baker I would choose Angelina Jolie because she can play a character who can be dishonest and can bend the truth.

For the recasting of the Great Gatsby I would choose Brad Pitt as Gatsby. Brad Pitt would make a perfect Gatsby because he can be a very serious actor, he has been called one of the most attractive men, and when he is mad he looks like he could have killed a (like Gatsby looks when he is mad). I would cast Reese Witherspoon as Daisy because she’s very attractive, and could act in a way to seem very insipid and obsessed with money. I would cast Tobey Maguire for Nick. I choose Toby because he is very trust worthy actor and he has experience carrying the story as Spiderman in three movies. He often started each movie narrating and kept it up all movies and his voice does not sound like it would drag on. I would cast Hugh Jackman as Tom Buchannan. Hugh is a very strong actor, very big and athletic. Hugh Jackman was Wolverine in X-Men. Hugh would be a good choice for Tom because Tom was a former football player and was still very athletic and intimidating person. For the part of Myrtle Wilson I would cast Megan Fox. I would cast her because she has plan the role of a poor character in the past. Also she would be a very flirty, seductive person to lure Tom away from his wife Daisy. For George Wilson I would cast Owen Wilson. I would cast Owen because George was a blonde, spiritless man, and fairly handsome. I felt Owen Wilson fit the part perfectly. Last, just for you Mr. Fiorelli I choose Nicole Hage the 9th place finisher LPGA Tour for Jordan. She looks like she could play a rich golfer and best friend to Daisy and she is a golfer, but she does not cheat.

#2. A personal experience I had were reality didn’t live up to my dream was when I strived to achieve straight A’s at the end of freshman year. I decided to set this goal for myself and tried to push myself to work very hard. I turned in all my homework on time and made sure I was well prepared for every test and quiz. Unfortunately I slowly started to realize that I might not be able to achieve this goal or dream. I think this is because I set my goal to get straight A’s too late into the quarter. Even though I was able to bring most of my grades up, I didn’t give myself enough time to bring all my grades up to an A. Although I did not achieve my goal it helped me learn a lot. It made me realize that if I push myself that hard all of the time, I could easily get all A’s. It also got me in the habit of always making sure to do my homework and prepare for quizzes and tests. For the start of sophomore year, I decided to set another goal. The goal I set this time was to strive to be exempt from most of my finals. As of now I only have to take two finals which means I succeed in accomplishing my goal. I think this was a better type of dream for myself because it spanned over a long period of time which made it easier to achieve.

Reality can exceed a dream quite often and I know that for a fact. Thanks to a friend of mine, Rob, I found out on a double date he dragged me along. Notice how I said "dragged." I didn't want to go, but I had to because I was his wing man. Plus, he said he'll never forgive me if I don't go because boys are suppose to do things like this for each other. I knew I would feel bad if I didn't go, so I went. He said his girlfriend was bring along a cousin of hers. I was worried at that point because I have no idea who this person is. I didn't even find out her name until we introduced each other when we first met. The whole car ride there, I was complaining about what if she's boring or annoying, or if we have nothing in common to talk about the whole movie. Then there's the dinner also! Its going to be awkward if we have nothing to talk about. At this point, I was ready to back out of this deal, but then I couldn't because we were already in front of the movie theater. I didn't have a dream about what this unknown girl would be like and look like, but it was more of a hopeful feeling that she would be done to earth and it wouldn't hurt if she's pretty. At least, I wouldn't mind. Turns out that is she a very well educated girl, who is down to earth, and not to mention drop dead gorgeous. OMG! By the way, I finally found out what her name was, and it's Meagan and I also got her number. 'Til this day, we're still good friends.

For me, an experience that lived up to the dream would have to be the Atlantis resort on Paradise Island, in the Bahamas. The dream of the Atlantis is always the city that was lost under the sea, and the resort lived up to that legend. From the “under city” that held lobsters and sharks to the gods that are painted on the main lobby’s panoramic ceiling. Throughout the whole vacation, there was more and more eye – opening experiences. The Dolphin Cay, where you could swim with rescued dolphins of hurricane Katrina, and the Walking with Sharks adventure that put you twenty feet under water with black tip sharks up to nine feet long. The Atlantis was a waterworld of slides, rides, pools, lazy rivers, and the Water Tower. The Water Tower is a huge structure that had snake – like figures formed into the sides of its sea – washed – sides that held five exhilarating slides for all people. When you were done with the rides for the day there were twnty plus restaurants that served fresh caught seafood and meals that would put Italy’s fame to the test. Even through all of these great attractions, the main topping of all was the people. Everyone at the Atlantis was hospitality based and made you laugh and would drop everything to help you with what you needed. My dream of The Atlantis was tha there was going to be great weather, exhilarating water rides, great food, and incredible fun. The Atlantis of reality was much more then I could ever have expected.

1. Some people think they are very smart and logical enough to call the others who always dream about something they would love. Of course, many of the dreamers eventually fail to bring their dreams to reality. People call these failed dreams "fantasy," in my personal view. Like Jay Gatsby had an enormous, or maybe impossible dream and failed to get what he really wanted to, dreaming may end up with great frustration and discouragement. Personally, I am a dreamer. It has always been more than just a fun for me to dream things and imagine I would be doing what I always wanted to do. Although I myself have experienced some failures and the reality did not match with my dreams, I also had some experiences the dream came true.I started playing the piano when I was five.I never thought I would be a good piano player and my teachers thought I was not very talented in music. I was always behind many of the kids who went to lessons together and I was very discouraged and disappointed almost every time I tried to play the instrument. Even my mother once told me, I remember, maybe it was not my thing and just give up the dream. For 11 years, I sometimes wanted to quit playing the stupid thing. Even though I could quit playing the piano, I could never quit dreaming to be playing beautiful music with my own fingers, not in the compact discs. The dream kept me going while people were thinking I was stupid enough to keep doing what I was not good enough to do. After these hard moments, for more than 10 years, I now play Chopin and Liszt most people could only hear from the cd players. My dream eventually came true and fantasy became reality. I personally think I still not good enough and I should play better, I am very proud of myself I never gave up when people listen to my music and appreciate it.I am still dreaming. I have a lot left to achieve and I believe I will dominate them because I will never give up. Dreaming has been such a great value in my life and I am not going to quit doing this even though I taste some failures after doing it, because it's not so fun not to dream.

For the character Nick, I would pick Tobey McGuire. He is a good story teller and would be able to portray when Nick is bold and speaks out or when he is more reserved and stands in the background to observe.
Gatsby- Bradley Cooper
For the character Gatsby, I would pick Bradley Cooper. He is handsome and seems like he can play the Gatsby that is sneaky and knows what he wants and goes out to get it. He has experience playing roles like this in the past.
Daisy- Reece Witherspoon
For the character of Daisy, I would choose Reece Witherspoon. She is beautiful and is “dream like.” She fits the characters appearance and can act flirty and makes her voice sound like ‘money.’
Tom- Jake Gyllenhaal
For the character of Tom, I would choose Jake Gyllenhaal. He is a tough guy who comes off as not being intimidated or afraid of anyone. He also is a fairly big guy who defiantly looks like he could be an ex- football player.
Myrtle- Tia Leoni
For the character of Myrtle, I would choose Tia Leoni. She is a woman who can play the part of the woman Tom is having an affair with. She fits for the most part the description of Myrtle and would be able to act the part well.
George- James Franco
For the part of George, I would choose James Franco. He can play shy and quiet, but also fiery. He does show too much emotion which is what the part of George should be.
Jordan Baker- Troian Bellisario
And last but not least, for the character of Jordan Baker, I would choose Troian Bellisario. Although not a golfer in real life, she is very athletic and the show she is currently starring in, she is an athletic actress. She is also witty and looks like Jordan should look like.

I'm a big dreamer and when reality sets in, I'm sometimes disappointed that those dreams exceed the real thing. For example, last summer my best friend and I went to spend the first week of summer in Cape May. It was so much fun and we couldn't wait to go back and spend more time down there. About two weeks later, her grandmother, who lives in Cape May, called us and said we could live with her and work at one of the hotels down there. We immediately asked our parents if it would be okay and when we had their blessing, we left for the rest of summer. On the ride down there we couldn't help but gush about how much fun we would have and how much trouble we could possibly get into. We made plans to stay out late and to walk around town until the morning. It was an exciting fantasy to think about staying away from home all night and to not get in trouble for it. However, our dreams were soon crushed flat. Once there we both worked long hours at the hotel and barely had a day off. Even though we were together at the hotel, we never did live out our dream. If we weren't working hard, we were sleeping. It was a big wake up call for us. We set an expectation that this job would be easy and that we could slack off. It was hard at first to not stay up all night and explore the town and sit on the beach, but we got use to it. By the end of summer we had different dreams. For this year, we dream of going to the beach for a week by ourselves and relaxing the whole time. We promise to never step foot inside that hotel again either, we don't want to be reminded of the hotel that crushed our dream summer.

Once I had a dream. That dream was to watch Pirates of the Caribbean 4. After the first movie I immediately fell in love with Orlando Bloom and since then I have purchased and watched all three movies. When I first heard that Johnny Deep was filming the 4th movie, I was extremely excited since I love the other three. But then the tragic news came that Orlando Bloom and Kira Knightly were not going to be in the new movie and that it was just going to be Johnny Deep and that they had also hired Penelope Cruz. At first I thought that Cruz would be replacing Knightly as Elizabeth. I was extremely angry simply because I hate it when the cast of a movie changes. But later I found out that Cruz would be a new and different character in the movie, which made me happier. Then one day my friend suggested that we go see Pirates on its premiere date. I agreed but I still couldn’t imagine that the movie would be good without Bloom and Knightly. But I decided to give it a chance especially since I have always loved Johnny Deep especially in Tim Burton movies. So I bought the tickets and watched the movie. I found the movie to be extremely funny and enjoyable. I ended up liking the movie so much that I wanted to watch it again. Plus the plot leaves room for a continuation if they decide to make another movie, which I hope they do.

There was one instance in my life where things definitely did not live up to the expectations that me and my team had. When I was playing football for the Conway Crush we were playing the Falcons in the finals. I was around 12 years old. The Falcons were undefeated for 4 years straight and nobody expected to win but we stayed pretty even the entire game. It was the fourth quarter and we were down by three points. We had possession of the ball and there was about 5 minutes left on the clock. We were making pretty steady progress down the field and got a couple first downs. The team was getting excited at the fact that we had a chance at beating the best team in the league in the championship game under the lights which was a big deal for us. It was third down and we had 10 yards to go for another first down. At that level nobody really ever threw the ball but our coach wanted us to go for it. The coach put me at tight end which was not my normal position and decided that the ball was gonna be thrown to me. The quarterback threw me the ball for a ten yard pass and I caught it and ran another 34 yards with it. This was very exciting and me team was ecstatic. They were very happy that we only had 5 yards to go till we pretty much won the game. The play after I had the long pass and run the quarterback fumbled the ball and the Falcons recovered it and ran out the clock. The team was looking forward to winning against a team three years undefeated but our expectations were cut short.
