Sophs #2 Journal--Your Favorite Work of Art

Tell us what you consider to be your favorite work of art. Please don't limit your definition of art to the "fine" arts, like painting. Please feel free to include the "pop" arts, like music, film, cartoons, or television.

You might want to use this post as a "warm up" or prewriting to the final essay that is due Thursday, September 16. However, you may choose to write about something else for the final essay, too.

Complete this blog/journal response before Friday, September 10.

Remember, I recommend that you write your response in a Word document, save it, and then copy and paste it as a response. Eventually, I will collect all of your "blog/journal" responses at the end of each marking period as a graded assignment.

Be more succinct here than you will be in your essay--write a minimum of 25 blog comment lines or 200 words (your essay should be 3-4 typed pages).

At Schoolsville, you probably want to respond to these prompts:

1. What IS your favorite work of art?

2. Tell me about it. Give a brief description or overview.

3. Why is it your favorite work? Does it make you "think" (appeal to your intellect) or "feel" (appeal to your emotions)? A little of both, perhaps? Briefly explain.

To get an idea of how to respond properly to this blog, you may check out the archives for September 2009 and read some of the 56 responses made by last year's sophomores to this blog entry.

The image that you're viewing is of Van Gogh's Starry Night, one of my personal favorite "works of art."

Music is a big part of life. I love music with a story and one that I can relate to. One of my favorite bands is the Jonas Brothers. I especially like their song, “A Little Bit Longer.” This song is about one of their members’ struggle with juvenile diabetes. Nick, who is 17, almost 18, was diagnosed with type 1, diabetes at the age of 13, when his older brother, Joe, took notice that Nick had lost an enormous amount of weight. His family was worried about him and his fans even more. Many fans and even Nick at first thought he was going to die. He wrote the song to kind of let his fans know what was going on with him and that everything was going to be okay. It is my favorite work of art because it brings different feeling to me whenever I listen to it. Many times when I listen to it, I feel sad and sympathetic for Nick and other people living with diabetes as it is a huge responsibility in their lives. I also feel thankful to God for me and my family’s health and that we are lucky to be healthy. Many times when I listen to this song in the car, as I stare out the window, I find myself singing along to its slow notes of the piano that Nick plays and the lyrics he sings. It calms me and brings different emotions to me. “So I'll wait 'til kingdom come/All the highs and lows are gone/A little bit longer and I'll be fine/I'll be fine,” are the last lyrics to the song. Even though this is a sad song, at the end Nick reminds his fans, other people with diabetes, and even me that even though life is hard, things will always end up being fine.

My favorite work of art would have to be Linkin Park’s song “Leave Out All the Rest.” I first heard this song a couple years ago while it was very popular on the radio. It did not mean much to me at the time but while I was reading the lyrics I realized that it explains how some people don’t always make the right choices in their lives. The song shows that when you die, people should not remember the bad things that you have done, but instead look towards the positive. The narrator explains that they have taken their beating. This means that they have been punished for the wrongs they have committed, and therefore should not be thought less of, as a person, because of them. This song shows that every person in the world has done something wrong at one time or another. The title, “Leave Out All the Rest,” is self explanatory in the fact that people should realize all of the good others have done in the world. The song also seems like a cry for help to make something good come out of a life of mistakes. Linkin Park and it’s writers came up with a great way to put teaching into lyrics and This is my favorite work of art because it has a good rock beat, great vocals, and it contains a very important life message

I woulda have to say that my favorite work of art is the 2010 movie "Avatar" directed by James Cameron the same director of the "Titanic". It is a truly amazing movie that reaches the edge of modern movie graphics. It is a story about how the human race has found a new planet that contains precious metal that is worth a lot of money located directly over a race of people much like us called the Navi. The humans attempt to bargain with the natives but they want nothing to do with it. So the humans create a creature similar to the Navi called an avatar. An avatar is a very tall blue creature resembling the Navi themselves that is controlled by the human. The humans then try to migrate themselves into the life of the Navi and understand why they refuse to move and allow the humans to gather their precious metal. The main character Jake Sully is accepted into the Navi and learns and adapts to how they live and all their customs. But when it gets down to the final moment Jake realizes his true life is with the Navi and he turns away from the corrupt humans in an attempt to protect the Navi. In the end of the movie there is a big battle and the Navi prefail and force the humans to leave their planet peacefully. This is my favorite peace of art because it shows how corrupt humanity can be and it teaches us to learn to live together in harmony and share everything. This movie had the most amazing colors and graphics I have ever seen in my life and in the end I kind of wish I could have lived on their planet called Pandorum.

Programming is my favorite thing to do. I was started on programming when my sister asked me to help her figure out how to make a car in a game, regenerate when destroyed. I when online to the game's wiki and I copied the program shown and placed it in the game. From this simple action, I learned of the thing behind all games. These simple typed words became power that fuels all modern technology. When I program I make a work of art on the computer and others enjoy it in the form of a game. The keyboard is my paint and the screen is my canvas. I show people the magic behind a computer and the art that goes into making all programs and games.

Ever since I was young, I always loved to read. One of my absolute favorite book series is Harry Potter, by JK Rowling. The first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's stone, was published in 1997. And the seventh and final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was published in 2007. Rowling started to write the first Harry Potter book in 1993. Her literary agent warned her that she would never make a fortune by writing children’s books (Rowling originally wrote Harry Potter for younger children but as the books progressed and became more complicated, the audience shifted to teenagers and young adults), but Rowling never gave up. In 1996, she took her book to several publishers, all of which turned her down, saying it was too slow and long for children. But in 1997, the British publishing company Bloomsbury Press decided to publish her book. After the books crazy success in England, it then got published it America and won several awards. Rowling then went on to publish the other books. In 2001, the first book went from #1 bestseller, to box office phenomenon. In these books, it explores the life of a young wizard, Harry Potter and his friends Ron Weasley and Hermoine Granger. Harry Potter attends Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Throughout Harry’s seven years at Hogwarts, he spends most of his time trying to battle and overthrow his enemy, Voldemort, who happens to the wizard that murdered Harry’s parents when Harry was just a baby. At the end of the seventh book, Harry and Voldemort battle it out to the death, and, of course, Harry wins and all is well in the wizard world. I choose this series as my favorite work of art, because i love Rowling's writing style and how she has a way with words. i love reading and re-reading these books and i never get tired of hearing about Harry and all his adventures.

I am a lover of the arts, but one of my favorites would have to be the TV series, Project Runway. I want to be a fashion designer, so I can relate to the contestants’ enthusiasm for what they do. Hosted by model, Heidi Klum, and joined by fashion consultant, Tim Gunn, the contestants are given a challenge- they must design an outfit for the appropriate theme. They may be only allowed certain materials, or are put on a budget. As the contestants create the outfit that a model will wear on the runway, Tim gives them advice. The outfits are judged by Heidi, fashion designer, Michael Kors, Elle magazine director, Nina Garcia, and another designer or celebrity. For each challenge, there is a winner, who typically gets immunity for the next challenge, and a loser, who is sent home. The winning outfit maybe featured in print media, incorporated into a limited edition look for a certain clothing brand, or sold on an online store. Before the loser being eliminated is revealed, the bottom three contestants defend their design to the judges. The contestants work diligently because the top three contestants present their line in New York Fashion Week, a huge deal in the industry. The winner gets $100,000 to start his or her own line and a fashion spread in Elle magazine. I love this show because it shows the stress designers can be put under and pushes the contestants to use their imagination and originality. To me, fashion design is a wonderful way to express who I am as a person, and the creativity within.

It took me longer than I thought it would to figure out what my favorite work of art was. When first assigned this essay I thought it would be pretty easy to pick out a piece of art and write about it, but I was very wrong. After a lot of thinking, I realized my favorite work of art is the movie, "Dear John" , directed by Lasse Hallstrom. The movie is an adaption of a novel by Nicholas Sparks, also the author of "The Notebook" and "The Last Song".
The story is about a young man, named John, who is part of the Army Special Forces. He's on leave when he first meets Savannah, played by Amanda Seyfried. John and Savannah show an interest for each other from the very beginning and in a matter of days the two are fall in love with each other. Soon enough, the two begin to introduce each other to their family and friends. Savannah introduces John to her neighbor Tim and his autistic son, Alan. John introduces Savannah to his father, who is very shy and loves to collect coins. Savannah tells John, that like Alan, his dad might be autistic. This upsets John and him and Savannah stop talking for a little bit. However, a couple days after their fight John goes to make up with Savannah. His leave is over soon and he wants to spend the last few days of it with Savannah. When John returns to the army, the two of them start a long-distance relationship and promise to write letters to each other all the time. John believes he won't have to return to the army again after this year. However, when the September 11 attack occurs, John is told that his unit will return to war. John is giving one weekend off and he returns home to Savannah and his father. When told the news of John having to return to Iraq, Savannah is upset, but tells John he needs to do what he thinks is right. John, like the rest of his unit, decides to re-enlist. For the next two years, John and Savannah keep writing to each other. John waits in anticipation every day for Savannah to write him back, but it doesn't happen as soon as he would like. Finally, John receives a letter from Savannah saying that she has been seeing someone else and that the two of them are now engaged. John is frustrated with Savannah and chooses to go on more and more dangerous missions. On one mission John is shot, but soon recovers. His Captain wants him to return home for awhile, but John, not wanting to see Savannah, once again re-enlists. For the next couple of years, John stays with the army, until one day he is ordered to go home. He is informed that his father has had a stroke and is most likely going to die. John spends most of his time with his ill father, but soon he goes to see Savannah. He finds out she is married to Tim, who was diagnosed with cancer and has to stay at the hospital. Later that day Savannah and John spend time alone together, but the night is ended with John saying goodbye to Savannah. John returns to the army once again and after a couple of months he receives a letter from Savannah. After that, John leaves to army and returns home. There, he reunites with Savannah and the love they once had for each other returns.
I love this movie because it's a modern twist on young love and the struggles people face in a relationship. "Dear John" tells the story of a love so intense that no matter what happens between two people, they still love each other. The storyline is filled with raw emotion, such as anger and sadness, that it makes the story come alive and makes me believe that John and Savannah are real people living in this day and age.

My favorite work of art would have to be the movie, “The Notebook”, by Nicholas Sparks. This movie is about two young lovers named Allie Hamilton, played by Rachel McAdams, and Noah Calhoun, played by Ryan Gosling. The two awkwardly meet each other one night at a carnival where it becomes love at first sight. Allie is a wealthy, polite teen that comes from a rich family and Noah is a poor boy from a small family. The two spend every waking moment together and they are completely in love. When Allie’s parents disapprove of their relationship, Allie and her family move away. This leaves Noah’s feelings crushed and to cope with his pain, he writes 1 letter to Allie everyday for 365 days. When Allie does not receive his letters, she moves on and gets engaged to a handsome soldier named Lon. As days go by, Allie goes back to visit Noah at the 200-year-old home he had reconstructed just for her. It is completely evident the two still have feelings for each other, which makes Allie have to choose between her fiancé and her first love. When Allie realizes the amount of love and respect she has towards Noah, she goes back to him and the two live together in love forever. I really like this movie because I feel that it really shows that all things will be good in the end and if they aren’t, it’s not the end. It shows that if two people are meant to be together, they will find a way back to each other no matter what the consequences are that come along. This movie also shows that if you give someone a chance, they could eventually be that one special person you spend the rest of your life with. “The Notebook” really touched my heart in ways of happiness, sadness, pain, and love which is why this is my favorite work of art.

Sophomores journal #2
your favorite work of art

My favorite piece of artwork is "The Curse of The Crying Boy". It was an beautiful artwork but no one knows for sure who painted it.
The artwork had quite a history around it. There was a grim, horrible, unexplained legend of this painting which I find intresting. As the legend goes, it stared around 1912 in London, England. When a mysterious artist who practice Satanic Cult, has painted a portrait of his son when he was crying. But that night, the artist went crazy when he claimed that he saw what looks like a demon in the shadows, and finally it drove him so insane that he committed suicide. 2 years later, the house had caught on fire and the child, who the artist was painting, was dead and underneath him was the painting his dad painted for him. Years later in 1985, the London museum decide to sell it to a wealthy family. Thats when the curse started. one morning, the family who bought the artwork was found dead!! It seems that a fire had started for no reason in the middle of the night and everything was burned so badly but the painting was untouched and unharmed. Few months later, a couple of families decides to have it., and the same thing happened; everything was burned down except for the painting. Soon, the most popular New England newspaper, The Sun, published on page 13 of its 4 September edition a story headlined: “Blazing Curse of the Crying Boy”. In August of 1993, after the last incident, the real copy of the painting mysteriously disappeared and nowhere to be found.
The reason I like the artwork is because it has meaning and a story behind it. This artwork has more of a history than any other artworks. It also makes me think differently. What if you're that little boy, your father is a crazy guy worshipping Satan, and you died 2 years later. how would you have felt? Not only its beautiful, but it also means alot to people so that's why I choose this work of art.

I would have to say that Pooh’s Grand Adventure is one of my childhood favorites. In the story, a lovable bear named Pooh Bear, with all of his other friends such as Rabbit, Tigger, Eeyore, Owl, and Piglet, all go out on an adventure to rescue one of their missing friends. Christopher Robin, a young boy , goes to his first day of school, and leaves a note on Pooh’s Door Step. The note states that he is going to school, there is no need to worry about him, and he would be back soon. The note is also attached to a honey pot, because Pooh loves honey. Unfortunately they misread the note and thought that Christopher Robin is very far away and they are all very worried. So they all go out on an adventure! In this journey, Pooh and the others discover that they are “Braver than they believe, they are stronger than they seem and smarter than they think.” In the end of the story they find Christopher Robin and they realize that they have accomplished things that they never would have even dared to try before. I really like this movie because it teaches you to have courage and fight for what you believe in.

Wishes. That one word has a huge influence on many people. You can wish for a million dollars or a new car. But, do you ever think about wishing for others, not yourself? One of the biggest things I try to do is to stop thinking about what do I wish for? Instead I think what I would wish for others. Many times I say to myself “My wish…”, but maybe the words following those could be for someone else. These thoughts lead to my favorite work of art, “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts. This is a country song that can have many meanings depending on the listener. The first time I heard this song, I found clear meaning. For me, the song is a friend telling another friend about their wishes for them as they are leaving. To others this song may merely be another country song, but to me it is a lot more. This song makes me think about the weight of a real friendship. It demonstrates the care and love that develops between friends and how those deep feelings turn into a lifelong link. The link holds tight no matter how far the distance becomes over time. The song made me appreciate the wonderful friendships that I am blessed to share with others and how much those friendships mean to me. This song makes me feel that if any of my close friends were to leave I would wish all of the things listed in the song for them. Friendship is one of the few things in life that can last forever. People can wish for cars, houses, or money but, those things will not last forever. Wishing for things like “your life becoming all that you want it to” or “your dreams stay big but your worries stay small” seem like better things to wish for. Now, I am human and in the past and probably the rest of my life I will wish for things that are material like a new puppy or a bigger something. But this song helped me to make a promise. Every time I make a wish for myself I will make a better wish one for someone else. So, my wish for all my friends is that “your life becomes all that you want it to” but “I hope you know somebody always loves you.”

It took me awhile to pick my favorite work of art. I knew I wanted to do a song but I wasn’t sure which one, after thinking for a while one song came to me. I first heard this song about two years ago, I was in my room and I heard my sister Sydney playing music in the room next to mine, when I walked in I saw her sitting in a huge pile of clothes with some strange scarf on her head as usual. I asked her what song it was and she told me it was “Skeleton Song” by Kate Nash. I will always remember this moment because I loved this song so much. When I heard this song the first thing I noticed was the tune and the actual music, it is very happy in some parts but then it can be very dramatic and sad in other parts. In the song she is singing about her imaginary friend skeleton from when she was a child. She tells about how her friend has been with her through everything, she sings “You have seen me through some trials and tribulations and some tears, but everybody thinks I’m weird”. As the song goes on she gets older and she runs into a dilemma because she cannot be friends with the skeleton anymore or people will think she is weird. The main reason I loved this song was because it shows how people get older and things change, but it also can remind me of when I was a kid and had my imaginary friends. This song can be both happy and sad to me, overall I just think it’s really cute and it will always put me in a good mood listening to it.

I thought long and hard about what my favorite work of art would be. I thought about what gave me the most feeling and what made me think a lot in the end. My favorite work of art is William Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. This story has everything that a great classic story should have. There’s love, rivalry, hate, bravery, sadness, joy, suspense, and shock. The story takes place in a town called Verona where two families of high fortune whom are the Capulets and the Montagues are at a rivalry. A Montague named Romeo meets the Capulet’s daughter Juliet and they quickly fall in love with each other. This is a dangerous affair because the two families hate each other and if these two lovers were caught there would be a tremendous quarrel between the families. Romeo and Juliet get married through Friar, the priest of Verona. But as the story goes Romeo receives word that Juliet has died which is cover up from the Friar so that Juliet and Romeo could flee together and live happy, but Romeo never got the message about this and he decides to kill himself by her side and as she wakes up she see Romeo dead and she kills herself. This is why it is such a great story because fate intervenes and these two were star crossed lovers and were not meant to be. This story made me think about how quickly things can go bad and that in the end you can never escape fate.

I think that my favorite work of art would have to be "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zepplin. From its soft, melodic acoustic intro to its blazing, but captivating solo, this song displays a masterpiece of instumental creativity. It may even be one of the best Led Zepplin song to have ever been written. Its beginning starts with a sad but calm acoustic passage played by Jimmy Page, who's soulful manner a playing brought a certain emotion to the song, making it very connective to the listeners, including me. However, as emotionally reaching as Jimmy Page's guitar playing was, it was the lyrics that spoke the most to me, which were sang by Robert Plant. I interpreted the lyrics of the song to be about a woman who lived a very wealthy live that was dealt the choice (as we all are) to either continue the road of luxury and fall to sin or give up what she had and lead a life of purity. The reason that this is my favorite work of art is because it blends a message with a very memorable guitar passage.

Music is my favorite type of art cause if you put a beat or rhythm behind your story, you feel more passionate about it. This is why I chose Eminem’s “Loose Yourself.” This is an immensely, motivational song because Eminem, or Marshall Mathers, speaks of all the troubles and obstacles he has had to overcome in order to become one of the supreme rappers in the game. Some of these hurdles he has overcome are: the most obvious of being white in a predominately black profession, growing up in the ghettos of Detroit, not having a father, having an abusive mother, being a divorced parent, and not being there for his two daughters. In this song, Eminem speaks of his first rap battle and how he is so nervous that he ends up throwing up. This is happening because he is realizing that if he doesn’t make it, he will continue to live in a trailer park of 8 Mile, and not be able to supply for his family. In the chorus of this song, he tells us about how if we genuinely want something, we to go all out in the moment and give it all that we have. Also, that we may only get one shot in life to pursue our dream so we must always be ready to take the chance and succeed. Through the entire song, you begin to notice that he begins to psych himself up I order to live his dream. He starts to realize that he can make his ambition happen and that it is his time to shine. The last line of the song, he leaves us with kindhearted words to show he worked for what he wanted. Eminem tells us, “You can do anything you set your mind to, man.” I love this song because you can use it in just about any art of your life. It also shows everyone that no matter how great he is now, that he wasn’t always that way and that he strived for where he is today.

My favorite work of art may have to be the movie My Sister’s Keeper directed by Nick Cassavetes. I first saw this movie by myself one night when my parents out with their friends. I was glad to watch it by myself because I knew I was going to cry. This movie has so much emotional intensity that it is impossible not to feel any sort of emotion when you watch it. The movie is about a family struggling with the eldest daughter's fight with leukemia. Cameron Diaz stars as the overbearing and protective mother fighting for her child’s life. Kate, the eldest daughter with leukemia played by Sofia Vassilieva, was diagnosed when she was quite young and the family decides to conceive another child that would be an exact match for Kate. This is otherwise known as a “designer baby” and along comes Anna, played by Abigail Breslin. Since she was born she was forced to donate blood and all other bodily things to her sick sister. Anna struggles to find reassurance that her family would still love her even if Kate wasn’t sick, so she decides to file for medical emancipation. I love this movie because it shows you the many struggles of life and how everyone doesn’t have it as good as everyone else. I can relate to this movie in many ways, though not as serious. It never seizes to make me cry. It is a great work of art.

i love listening to music ,watching movies and looking at old art work, but my favorite work of art is probably the 2004 movie, "The Notebook". Its a love story centered aroind an older man who reads aloud to an older woman who he regularly visits. From a faded notebook, the old man tells the life story of a couple who fell in love. The couple soon got seperated by allie's, the girl's, parents, who didnt think they were right for each other. Seven years later they reunite and their love is rekindled, and they get married and have a good life together.Though her memory has faded, his words give her the chance to relive her youth and the unforgettable love they shared. In the very end you find out the old man reading the story and the older woman he read to were the couple that the story was about.Allie finally remembers her youth and Noah, who read her the notebook he kept. This is my favorite work of art because, its a great romance that makes me think about love and what it would be like if i were in the position Allie was in , in the movie. It is really romantic and emotional, and i cried at the end,its a great work of art that really gets me thinking about how things in that movie could relate to my life, and i sometimes wish things could be like they are in movies.

I would have to say my favorite work of art is the movie Remember the Titans by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Boaz Yakin. This movie was made in 2000 and tells the story of the 1971 T. C. William Titans. Up in till that school year the school was only for white people, but that year they were pressure into making the school integrated. This is back when racism was still very common and Coach Boone takes over from the current head coach Bill Yoast because they wanted a colored head coach in the league. The African American and Caucasian athletes of the football team frequently clash in racially motivated conflicts at their football camp, especially between the captains (and main characters) Gerry Bertier, and Julius Campbell. But after forceful coaxing and rigorous athletic training by Coach Boone, the team achieves both racial harmony and triumph. Soon after returning from football camp, Coach Boone is told by a member of the school board that if he loses even a single game he will be fired. Subsequently, the Titans go through the season undefeated while battling racial prejudice, before slowly gaining support from the whole community. There are some more ups and downs in the movie, one being Gerry Bertier getting in a car crash and paralyzed from the waste down right before the championship game. Then he dies 10 years later, which takes use to the beginning and end of the movie were everyone from the movie is at his funeral remembering what happened 10 years ago. This movie is my favorite for main reasons, but the main reason is even though adversity and hard times you can rely on your friends to be their for you. Not only in football (or any sports) but in life as well.

Not only in football (or any sports) but in life as well.

My favorite work of art is the movie In the Land of Women. The movie is about Carter Webb, who moved to his grandma's house to be her caretaker when she thought she was dying. He meets a family living across the street including Lucy Hardwicke, Paige Hardwicke, and Sarah Hardwicke. He befriends these women and becomes almost romantically involved with Sarah and her daughter Lucy. Sarah, the mother of Lucy and her little sister Paige, recently discovers she has breast cancer. Carter helps her stay happy through this sickness by listening to her when she needs it. Lucy and Sarah do not get along most of the time. They do not understand each other very well. They become closer though when Sarah is dying of cancer. Carter helps explain to each of the women how important the other one is to each of them. He helps them understand their differences. I like this movie because it shows me how important family really is. It shows how you should try and understand your family as best as you can. This movie makes me feel sad because of the dislike between Lucy and Sarah who simply do not understand each other and their lack of communication. It also demonstrates how it is vital to stay close with family because you do not realize that you could lose them at any time.

When I was asked what my favorite work of art was, I immediately thought of a song I heard on the radio called “Starts With Goodbye” by Carrie Underwood. I usually don’t like country that much but once I heard this song I fell in love with it right away. The song is about a girl who is trying to let go of her loved one and move on because she knows it’s for the best. She talks about how she is at a crossroad in her life and there are two paths she can take. She can either deal with the pain and misery she’s in, or she can let go. She chooses to let go, even though it may be one of the toughest things in her life. The girl realizes that letting go starts with goodbye, even if a part of her will always be missing without her loved one still in her life. Although it’s going to hurt her deeply inside, she knows that things will be better in the future. At the time that I heard this song, it related to me perfectly. I also know how hard it is to let go and move on with the rest of your life, when you are in a situation where you truly care about someone and the feelings aren’t always returned as you would like them to. It’s always tough in the beginning, but I realize now that all of it was worth it. Listening to this song really got me through a tough part of my life, and I recommend it for others who are dealing with a situation similar to this.

My favorite work of art would probably have to be the movie the perfect storm. I saw this movie for the first time way back when I was a little boy at my cousins house. And I still remember the fear, yet also the wonder that it gave me. As a kid, that movie awesome...only cause of the crazy storm. But I've watched it many times since then and I have come to enjoy it for other reasons as well. The movie stars some big time actors such as George Clooney who is William "Billy" Tyne, captain of the Andrea Gail, a sword-fishing boat. Mark Wahlberg as Bobby Shatford, the youngest of the crew. Diane Lane as Chris Cotter, girlfriend of Bobby. She didn't want Bobby to go because she had a bad feeling about the fishing trip. What happens is, Captain Tayne is broke and he needs a good catch on this last voyage. However while at sea the crew gets news of a huge, catastrophic storm. Captain Tayne heeds off the warnings from other ships though and his ship and crew get caught right in the middle of the perfect storm. The coast Guard tried in vain to rescue the crew but the storm prevented that and so finally after the previous struggle, a giant wave over almost 200 feet comes towards the ship. Tayne tells Billy to go full steam ahead to make it over the wave. There is a split second where you just about believe they might make it...but at the last second the wave forces the boat to flip over. Only Bobby manages to get out of the boat alive. However, he has no chance of surviving. He is last seen all alone, floating among the waves. Back at shore, a memorial ceremony is held while families worry and wait for a ship that will never come home. It's not the happiest movie in the world but I like the actors and the reality of...if you make stupid decisions then things won't always turn out for you. And also the movie taught me a lot about family and friendships, I learned that you should never make a decision that will put your friends in harms way and that your family will suffer just as much. All in all it's a great movie and I think everyone should watch it.

When I think of a favorite movie
it is hard to narrow it down to but if I were to have to I would have to say Remember the Titans. I first saw this movie with my mom when i was about 7 or 8 and I just liked it because it was about football but as a got older I begin to grasp the concept of the movie. Remember the Titans takes place in 1971 Virginia,a very rascist state in this time period, and is about a newly assigned african-american high school football coach. The high school had just intergrated and the team was full of players who did not want to play with each other just because the color of their skin. The coach straightens this out by playing no favorites and eventually everyone starts palying as one. The Titans go on to win a state title, because of the success of the team everyone eventually accepts the changes.
This movie is one of my favorites because it is actually a true story.

I would have to say that my favorite work of art is the film, “ Coyote Ugly.” My first experience with this film was watching it as a young girl and being totally oblivious to the actual meaning of the story. After watching this movie several times, I have finally started to understand the life lessons the movie was trying to teach. Which is that you have to go after your dreams and not to change your ideas for anyone. Violet Sanford, the main character moves away from her hometown to New York in pursuit of her dreams to become a songwriter. Since Violet knows very little about the city and the music business her attempts of getting her demo tapes to a producer are useless, additionally her apartment is broken into, which leaves her with nothing. Coincidentally, Violet gets a lead for a job in a nightclub called Coyote Ugly. Coyote Ugly’s bar maid job turns out not to be as Violet expected. Since she needs the money, Violet takes the job and starts learning the ways of the city. After getting in trouble because of many misunderstandings, Violet's friends and family try to rid her of stage fright so that she can perform her songs herself. Eventually Violet is able to perform a song which becomes a great hit by famous singer, Leann Rimes. This movie does a great job of showing that hard work and determination will always help you succeed in whatever you choose to do. Personally, “ Coyote Ugly” exemplifies relentless pursuit of your dreams.

My favorite work of art isn’t necessarily “a work of art”, it’s actually a song. I’ve heard too many songs to count in the past month, but “A Drop in the Ocean” is the only one that actually made me stop and listen to what the artist was trying to say. I like how Ron Pope uses “A Drop in the Ocean” to express his feelings and make himself relate to his listeners. Whenever I listen to it I can understand how Ron is feeling when he wrote it. His song is kind of depressing but he talks of hope and what he dreams of. In his song he says, “It’s like wishing for rain as I stand in the desert.” This speaks of something that’s almost impossible, but in the following lines he says “But I’m holding you closer than most, because you are my heaven.” He adds hope at the end of something that he knows will probably never happen. If I’m in a bad mood I know I can listen to this song and instantly find hope.

My favorite work of art of all time would have to be the movie Avatar. It was made this year by the director of James Cameron. Cameron also directed Titanic, and these two movies made the most money with Avatar being in first. It was played in the theater in 3-D and is showing again with new scenes. It starts with Jake Sully going to the planet Pandorum. The humans there are trying to dig a certain kind of special rock that makes them a ton of money. But the problem is that the natives there will not leave their home. They become hostile with the humans. Jake can transform to be a thing that humans created that look like the natives. It is his avatar. He is sent to the natives to investigate them, befriend them, and see if they will move. Jake has a broken leg, but when he is his avatar, he can run, jump, and do many things he couldn’t. Later in the movie, Jake becomes so used to his new life and likes it so much that he prefers it over his old one. When the war comes to drive the natives out, he helps them by gathering all of the people on Pandorum to fight against the humans. They win the fight and force the humans back to their home planet. I like this movie because it looks so realistic, some of the scenes in it are breathtaking. You can relate this movie to when the Europeans came to drive the Native Americans out of America. The only difference is that the Europeans won in reality, and in the movie, the natives win. This is the absolute best movie I have ever seen and one of the longest (about 3 hours). It is my favorite work of art by far.

My favorite work of art is undoubtedly Tom Shadyac’s “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective”. I was first introduced to this movie when I was 10. I distinctly remember spending the night at my friend’s house and staying up all night watching movies such as “The Matrix”. After we finished that we put in the pet detective and it was like love at first sight from that day up to this day I have never gone through the movie without bursting into laughter. For that reason it is my favorite work of art because to me everyone needs a good laugh in their day and that’s exactly what this movie gives you. In perfect harmony Tom Shadyac and the writers of this movie combined outrageous comedy with intellectual detective work while sticking to a strict story line. The movie is based around the Miami Dolphins, during their primetime, and their real live mascot dolphin that gets “dolphin” napped just weeks before the super bowl. That is when they call in the pet detective, played by Jim Carrey, who throughout the investigation keeps running into dead ends around each and every turn, but with his relentless attitude never gives up until his task is completed. Due to the attitude portrayed by Jim Carrey in this movie I have learned to live my life with the mindset of never giving up no matter what lies in front of you.

My favorite work of art that I can think of right now is the musical band the Blue Man Group. I have only seen them one time but they blew my mind away in that one appearance I have seen. The band consists of three guys who are painted all blue and do all of the stuff on stage. They also have more band members playing in an upper room where the audience can see them. Those guys are dressed in skeleton costumes and are lighted up. During the show, the three blue men do tricks and make the audience laugh. They mostly make music with things you wouldn’t expect to make music with like construction pipes and they also do a lot of drumming related music. They really get the crowd into the show by asking for volunteers to do some strange but funny things. One of the things a boy had to do was go backstage and put on a plain white apron. Then the three blue men threw many different colors of paint onto the apron. My favorite part of the show was when the lights in the theater started flickering and rolls of toilet paper from behind you were being unraveled and everyone was pulling on the huge rolls and throwing them near the front row. It was a lot of fun and everyone was very excited. The very interesting thing about the Blue Man Group was that neither one of them talked the entire time and they only had one facial expression too. This is my favorite work of art because it made me feel alive and happy. It was a lot of fun since I saw it in New York City with my whole 8th grade class on a field trip. This band was funny and they did a lot of interesting things. I enjoyed the show very much and I would very much like to see them again.

One of my favorite works of art is the movie Men in Black. This is one of my favorite works of art because this movie shows you that people are not always who you think they are. This movie is about a secret organization that deals with aliens and keeps the public from knowing that they exist. In this movie Will Smith plays an ordinary police officer but a man from the organization Men in Black (played by Tommy Lee Jones) tries to recruit Will Smith into the men in Black. I also enjoyed this movie because it involved two of my favorite actors Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith. Both of these actors are excellent at every character they play and I do not think the movie would be the same without them. The interaction between both of them makes the movie enjoyable because both actors are the opposites of each other and at times make the movie funny. The special effects of the aliens in the movie were very convincing and made it more enjoyable to watch. This movie is remarkable because of the way it presents itself to its viewers and it is great for the whole family.

Taylor Swift is one of my favorite musical artists due to the fact that she is my age and writes songs for many of the teenage life problems. One of my favorite songs she has written is, “Mine”. I first time I heard this was when my sister was playing some music for me on YouTube. I really enjoyed the tune so, I looked up the lyrics. The girl was tired of love because it never works out anyway but, then the boy comes around and changes her way of thinking. As it flashes back to all the good times they had she says about the boy, “You are the best thing that’s ever been mine”. The couple came to be so much in love and they know so much about each other. But one night they fight and she walks out and he follows her. She was ready for the break up but he surprises her and said “I’ll never leave you alone” and he says “She is the best thing that’s ever been mine”. This is one of my favorite works of art because it deals with the love of two teenagers and it is probably one of the cutest love songs ever. It deals with what a lot of girls expect out of relationships and Taylor Swift does a beautiful job of expressing that boys are sensitive and sweet and do care about girls.

My favorite work of art is the movie, “The Goonies.” “The Goonies” is a movie about a group of friends that live in Oregon whose homes were bought out by the local country club, and the club is going to knock their homes down for an expansion of their golf course. The kids are sad about their homes, and they do not want to move. While the kids are cleaning Mikey’s attic, they discover these old artifacts and ancient treasure map. The group of friends decides to pursue this map, and try to find the treasure in hopes to save their homes. While they are searching for the gold, 3 crooks’ start to follow them and hope they can steal the treasure from the kids. When the kids find the treasure the Fratellis (the crooks) try to ransack the children and take the gold for themselves, but it sets a booby-trap and the kids flee to the ocean and show their parents the treasures. They got enough treasures to save the homes, and everyone is so excited about it. This is one of my favorite works of art because it’s a great movie about kids having an adventure and having enough courage to save their homes themselves. The movie is a classic comedy that never gets old, no matter how many times you watch it.

One of my favorite cartoons of all time is Spongebob Squarepants, created by Stephen Hillenburg. It is beyond doubt one of the best cartoons ever and can make just about anyone laugh. Spongebob is a childish, unusual sea sponge who lives in a pineapple in the city of Bikini Bottom. He works at the Krusty Krab as a fry cook and is actually very skilled at it. From 1999 to 2010, over 100 episodes have been released and in 2004 “The Spongebob Squarepants Movie” came to theaters. Two of my favorite episodes are “MuscleBob BuffPants” and “The Bully.” Musclebob Buffpants is a hilarious episode that shows Spongebob wearing blowup muscle arms that make him seem strong, but when his friend Sandy enters him in an anchor throwing contest his weak self is revealed. This episode showed me not to portray myself as someone who you are truly not, but to be confident in your own self, know matter how different you are. The Bully is a comical episode of a new student at boating school with Spongebob. The new student is a bully to Spongebob and threatens to kick his butt. This makes life miserable for him but eventually he becomes friends with the bully. Every time Spongebob is on I cannot resist watching it because of how amusing it is. This TV show really stands out to me because of how great the comedy is, and also the morals each episode portrays.

For my favorite work of art I have picked the movie “Notorious” the movie describing and showing you, first hand the rapper Christopher Wallace A.k.a Notorious B.I.G’s life. The movie is about the struggle in the early years of Christopher’s life, when he had a hard time with money. He had to deal drugs just to make money to feed his daughter. The movie goes on to show his relationship with tupac shakur and puff daddy. Christopher makes it big as a very successful rapper and is at the height of his career when his friend tupac was shot, but not killed. Tupac blamed the shooting on Christopher, thinking that Christopher wanted to make more money by having tupac dead. The movie then shows the rivalry between tupac and biggie but even more so about the east coast, west coast argument. As the movie approaches the end, tupac shakur is shot again and killed. Christopher then releases his second album titled “Ready to die” and makes a bold and risky move by going to California to promote it. After the promotion biggie is going back to the airport when a black sedan pulls up next to his SUV and someone in the sedan fires multiple gunshots at Christopher’s SUV and kills him. This movie is my favorite work of art because it shows that no matter who your parents are and how much money you had; you can always become somebody big. This movie is sad when biggie dies but that’s what makes it a great movie. I want to end with my favorite quote from the movie “we can’t change the world unless we change ourselves.”

Nicholas Sparks is one of my favorite writers and I enjoy many of his books. In my opinion, his best book is Dear John. It only took me 3 - 4 hours to read it. I was so mezmorized by the characters and how much emotion they showed. The story is about a boy and a girl who met at the beach. When the girl, Savannah, drops her purse into the ocean, the boy, John, saves it for her. They instantly fall in love, but their time together is short. John is in the Army and is sent over to Iraq for a year. This really puts a strain on their relationship because Savannah decides they should only communicate through letters. When John is allowed to visit for a week, he and Savannah fight alot more than they did before, but they are still in love with each other. Then John goes back to Iraq and he starts to get fewer letters from Savannah. This makes him worry. One day, he gets a letter from her telling him she wants to break up and that she has started to date her a childhood friend named Tim. John decides to stay in the Army, but he is forced to come home when his Dad gets very sick. Soon, John's Dad dies and he decides to go visit Savannah. He finds that Savannah has married Tim and Tim has developed cancer. Also Savannah has opened up a horse stable for kids with disabilities; her childhood dream. John is still in love with Savannah, but decides he can't see her again because it is too painful. So he says goodbye to her with the thought of never seeing her again. One night, though, he comes back and watches her from a hill near the stable just to see what she has been doing. He realizes that he will always be in love with Savannah no matter what. This story really touched me! I could feel John's pain and can only imagine what it was like to be in love with someone, not be able to be with them and be at war too. I felt it was a great book and I could read it a million times over and never get bored of it.

My favorite work of art would have to be the movie, “Rudy.” It was a film that was released in 2000, directed by David Anspaugh. Not only is it my favorite work of art, but one of my favorite all time movies. I remember sitting in a hot and crowded classroom watching this movie for free time. It was the first time I saw this movie, but certainly not my last time seeing this movie. I believe I’ve watched this movie about 100 plus times. This movie is about a young man named, Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger who always had the dream of playing college ball at the University of Notre Dame. While attending Joliet Catholic High School, Rudy gained some respect and accomplishments on the football team. Despite not having the grades or money to get into Notre Dame, that didn’t stop him from getting in. He attended a junior college nearby to get qualify for a transfer. That’s exactly what he did. Football was what he loved to do, so there was no stopping this young man of fulfilling his childhood dreams of playing as a Fighting Irish. Not having the grades and money for college wasn’t his only obstacles. Rudy Ruettiger was only 5’6” and 165 pounds so people laughed at the thought that he wanted to play football. Not once did he let somebody get to him about him being to small to play. He took the criticism and ran with it. Somehow, someway, Rudy earned a spit on the team. In his senior year at Notre Dame, which was also his first year there, Rudy saw some action. On the final play of the game against Virginia Tech, Rudy was put in as a defensive end. To everyone’s amazement, Rudy rushed up field and sacked the opposing quarterback. To cap it all off, he was carried off the field by his teammates. I can really relate to this movie in many ways, so that’s why its my favorite work of art.

I have many favorite books, movies, songs and works of art. One of my favorites would have to be the book Kissed by an Angel by Elizabeth Chandler. This story deals with many issues such as life, death, forgiveness, faith, and acceptance. The plot is about Ivy, who when her boyfriend Tristian dies, looses her faith in her beloved angels. However, Tristin becomes her guardian angel. He discovers his last mission on earth is to protect Ivy from his killer who is Ivy's step brother. Although he encounters many obstacles such as drug abuse, lies, kidnapping, manipulating, and murder, Tristian is able to save and communicate with Ivy. She starts to beleive in angels again and allows herself to let go of Tristian. Although far fetched at times, this novel teaches good lessons. It gives you faith to beleive you have someone looking out for you always. It gives you faith in angels. The main charcter is able to move on in the end and find a new love. This is a good example of life goes on no matter what you have been through. Chandler is able to break the readers heart when Tristian dies, give you hope when he becomes her angel, keep you sitting on the edge of your seat with suspence, and rejoice when Ivy wins and moves on. This was a truly inspiring book and written beautifully. It will continue to remain one of my favorites for a long time.

Art -the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance. That is the Definition of art itself, stright from dictionary.com. But art does not have to be Beautiful per say, it can be gritty, and earthly. Because in reality, The world is not always a beautiful place. My favorite work of "art" would have to be the movie "Full Metal Jacket". This movie is not pretty or "nice". It depicts how the horrors of war and even training for war, can have terrible effects on a person's psyche.
I 1st saw this movie about 3 years ago and it made me think. I was shocked at the stuff that they had to go through in the training and in the actual combat itself. It fallows a new recruit going into the Marine corps. and later he actually gets deployed to go to Vietnam (this is during the war) and he is "assigned" (even though he doesn't want to) to report to a newspaper called the "stars and stripes" which is a propaganda filled paper. During his training however, he has to watch as a not so smart man who keeps messing up during training slowly goes insane. He is constantly belittled by his officer, and by his own squad, who are having to deal with his screw-ups. On the last day of training he Snaps and ends up killing himself and his captain. This scene in particular made me think about what we humans do to our enemies, and even people that are our allies. This movie is not for the faint of heart, but is most defiantly a piece of art, because, it so perfectly shows what the world really is, not the overly-happy mask that it puts on.

Among all of the movies and television shows I’ve seen I always will remember one clearly, that is the breakfast club. A movie about teenagers doing all kinds of awful things on a Saturdays detention was one of my favorites of all time. It all started one night where there was nothing to do. Sitting around watching t.v. seemed to be the highlight of me and my best friend brookes night. After searching trough all the countless movie one called the breakfast club came up, sounded interesting so we gave it a shot. Who would know this would be a memory that would last me a lifetime. Laughter filled the room the room the entire night as we watched it. It reminded us of all the stupid things we did and made us laugh so much at all the things we knew were so true about teenagers. We couldn’t relate to any other movie more. To this day we still make jokes and laugh about different parts and scenes in the movie. It made us feel as though we weren’t the only ones getting into trouble during school or in the movies case, after school.

Standing there in the hallowed halls of the National Smithsonian of Modern art I thought to myself, and my brother said out loud, “My God, anybody could do this!” This cracked the lone security guard up and practically made him pee himself. But little did I know that at that moment looking at Jasper John’s Target that I would become infatuated with it and eventually write a research paper on it. Looking back, what intrigued me so much was its simplicity and its elegance. It was a yellow and blue target on a red background, nothing more and nothing less. From this painting I went home and made some cookies in homage to it (they were awesome) and, as I have previously mentioned wrote a four and a half page paper on it. It has a strange allure to it that just makes you wonder why and if there is indeed a deeper meaning to it. My personal opinion is that it is pop art and it is essentially meaningless and that the artist just wants you to insert your own meaning. Is it a comment on society or is it a product of boredom.

My favorite work of art is music. One of my favorite bands is the Jonas Brothers because I can connect with their music and all of their songs have a meaning and a story behind them. So I decided to choose one of their songs. My favorite song of theirs would have to be “Hold On.” It is just one of those songs that are happy but sad at the same time. It tells that if you get your heart broken not to give up and just have faith. It also tells that you should never loose faith in yourself and if you keep your head up and hold on you can achieve your dreams. Some of the lyrics are “When it falls apart and you’re feeling lost, don’t give up on love, have faith, restart. Just hold on.” The song also sends the message that it’s not that hard to be a friend to someone when they are in need. The message I get from this song is not to give up and take a stand for what I believe in. It doesn’t matter what happens in life someone will always be there for you and you should stay strong through the obstacles that life throws at you.

Whey you asked us to each pick our favorite work of art, I had to stop and think for a moment. What exactly is my favorite work of art? This is a rather hard question to answer because art is such a general question. Art can be almost anything; a painting, or a play, or a song, or even a way of expression one's self. Several different ideas went through my head, but I knew I had to choose only one. So I decided to tell you about my favorite play. My favorite play would have to be Wicked. Wicked is a prequel to the Wizard of Oz. It is all about the lives of the wicked witch of the West and Galinda before Dorothy came into the picture. The play explains who these characters really are and how they got to be this way. The end of Wicked is the beginning of the Wizard of Oz, isn't that neat? When I heard about this rather new play a few years ago, I thought, “what a clever idea!” I couldn't wait to see how they made it all work out. The storyline was rather ingenious. I do not want to spoil it for you, but if you love the Wizard of Oz, than you will absolutely adore Wicked. I loved trying to piece the two stories together, and how Wicked explained how the wicked witch became who she is. Every little detail was just so smartly done, and the music is wonderful too. The songs are really catchy but they still tell a story and are not just fun musical numbers. Well as you can see by all of it's glorious praise, Wicked is one hit musical.

I would have to say my favorite work of art would have to be the film Brians Song. This is movie is said to be one of the greatest movies of all time. This film tells the story of Gale Sayers, a famous football player for the Chicago Bears and his friend and team mate Brian Piccolo. This movie is filled with compassion and emotion. At the start of the movie Gale and Brian don't get along. But as the season go's on and gets tougher they become good friends. Later in the movie Brian Piccolo becomes very sick and dies of disease. This hurts Gale very much and he dedicates everything he did that season to Brian. I first saw this movie when I was about 10 years old. My dad is a huge fan of the movie himself and told me to watch it and that I would love it. I myself being a football player made the movie that much better for me. This movie taught me about friendship and how important friendship is. I have a few friends in my life like Brian Piccolo and hope they stay with me always. I really love this film because of the values it represents and the morals it shows. I highly recommend you see this movie if you already haven't seen it.

Throughout the years I have had many different favorite works of art. They range from music to movies of all types. But there is one work of art that has been my favorite for a while now. It is a movie called "Law Abiding Citizen". This movie was created in 2009 and is an action movie about a guy name Clyde who is going against the justice system because the man who killed his wife and daughter was not sent to prison for as long as he should have been and his accomplice, who did nothing other than steal a few things, was sentenced to death. This movie stars Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler, and if I must say so myself may be one of the greatest action movies ever filmed. Throughout the movie you are on the edge of your seat wondering what on earth is going to happen next. Anything and everything that can go wrong goes wrong in this movie. It is so good it was even nominated for some awards. This is just some of the many reasons that "Law Abiding Citizen" is my favorite action movie of all time. I recommend that you and many others watch this movie if you get a chance

My favorite work of art would have to be the Jerry Bruckheimer film, Remember The Titans. This movie is based on the actual events of 1971 where of a football coach Herman Boone, played by Denzel Washington, tries to integrate a racially divided team at the T. C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia. The year is seen through the eyes of the football team, and they soon as a team become the unifying symbol for the community as the boys and the adults learn to depend on each other. Bill Yoast, an assistant coach, is also making a transition to help out Boone. The real life portrayal of athletes Gerry Bertier and Julius Campbell, played by Ryan Hurst and Wood Harris. Bertier and Campbell are the two football players from each race that appear within the storyline the most. Gerry Bertier is more of the leader of the white football team while Julius Campbell, of the black team, bumps heads with him. Tensions are eased during the two-week training camp in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. There, the players started off refusing to work or even sit at lunch with someone of the opposite race. Through out there time there they become a team a team of all different colors, a team of brothers with Julius and Gerry leading the pack. But when they return to Alexandria the players find the city that is strongly against the forced segregation of the high school. As the season progresses the team's success caused the community to accept the changes. After the Titans' perfect season, the team and the city were closer than ever. It is my favorite work of art because I love sports and the whole concept of the football brotherhood connection. I also love the connection Julius and Gerry make. They become so close they’re like brothers but everyone around then frowns upon their bond but they never let that stop them. My favorite scene is towards the end after Gerry gets into a car accident. Julius comes to visit Gerry and he walks in to Gerry’s room then the nurse says “im sorry only kin’s allowed in here” and Gerry says “Alice, are you blind? Don't you see the family resemblance? That's my brother.” That statement is the strongest line in the movie to me, because it’s so touching and shows how close they’ve become.

My favorite piece of art, I guess, would be the television show Always Sunny in Philadelphia. It is a dark comedy that airs on FX. It is about five people who work in an underachieving bar in South Philly. They basically are just five horrible people who conspire against each other, usually for some kind of money, and for some reason enjoy watching the downfall of others. In every episode they end up getting mixed up in some kind of shenanigans that usually end up in no gain of any kind. All five seem to be friends but each of them would quickly ditch the others for personal gain. Watching five morons get into a whole bunch of crazy stuff, for me is enjoyable. The show has no morals, isn’t trying to teach a lesson, isn’t trying to be emotional, and isn’t trying to be something it’s not. I don’t like watching shows and then having to think about the meaning and I don’t like it when they make me sad, because for me TV is about entertainment and being able just to sit down and relax and this show, allows me to do that. I think this show is perfect for what I am trying to do when I am watching TV and that is why it is my favorite work of art.

One of my favorite works of art is a movie called Ever After. It was directed by Andy Tennant and has the famous actress Drew Barrymore who is one of my favorite actresses. This movie is a spin off of a Cinderella but told in its own way. Its about a girl named Danielle who's father marries another women with two younger daughters. A few days later the father dies leaving his daughter behind with the stepmother. From than on she is forced to work for her stepmother doing chores around the house like in the original Cinderella movie. The movie becomes different when the stepmother sells one of the servants to pay off her growing debt. In order to get the servant back, Danielle's friend, she has to dress like a lady in waiting. After getting the servant back she runs into the prince and from than on he falls in love with her thinking that she is a lady in waiting. So when his father tells him that if by the ball he finds a girl to marry he shall be allowed to marry her. He picks Danielle until he finds out she is just a commoner from her stepmother and stepsister. He decides not to marry her anymore because she lied. In the end the two of them marry happily. I really like this movie because it teaches you the lesson of, no matter who the person is you shouldn't judge them on just their title but their personality. It's unfair to end a friendship with somebody just because of who they are. Be friends with people who treat you the way you want to be treated and like you for who you are no matter your status.

My favorite work of art is a book called “Peace, Love & Baby Ducks.” It’s about a girl named Carly, she is rich and rebellious. She has a younger sister, Anna who’s always there for her. One summer Anna turns hot and things change. Carly likes this guy, Cole, he is friends with Carly’s best friend, Roger. Carly wants to get with Cole but ends up friends. When Carly and Anna’s parents are gone for the weekend Anna and Carly decide to have a little party. They invite Cole, Roger and other close friends. Before the party there’s a box a baby ducks from the neighbors that say “ hot chick for hot chicks”. They keep the ducks for a while so they can grow. The small party becomes a huge party with underage drinking. Carly flips out and goes to the bathroom to find out one of the baby ducks is dead. Carly gets mad
cries and orders everyone out. When that didn’t work Rogers yells for everyone to go and they do. Carly finds Anna, but Anna is hooking up with Cole, Carly’s crush. Carly is mad and tells Anna hurtful things so Anna leaves the house. The next morning Carly realizes what she had done and tries to finds Anna. In the end they make up and Carly finds the right guy who is Roger! This book is good because I felt like I was right there with Carly, I understood her. In the end of the book I was in tears, I wanted to yell at her sister just like her and I cried when the one of the ducks died this book. The last scene part in this book is adorable the way she got the guy was cute and how her sister and her were best friends again. This book is an emotional roller-coaster!

One remarkable work of art that I have recently witnessed is a movie called "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas." Set in World War II, it tells the story of a young German boy named Bruno who has to move out to the countryside after his father is assigned to command a work camp. Bruno notices something that looks like a farm that is close to his new house. One day he decides to venture over to the farm, where he meets another boy around his age, named Shmuel, who wears "striped pajamas." Though separated by the fence that encloses the "farm," Bruno and Shmuel become close friends who enjoy each other's company. Bruno doesn't understand that, as a German, he is supposed to hate the Jews, or at least that's the impression that he has gotten from his father. One day, Bruno decides to dig a hole under the fence so he can come to the "farm," which is actually a prison camp. Shmuel gives him a pair of the "striped pajamas" so he would blend in with the other Jews. Bruno, Shmuel, and many of the other prisoners are then unexpectedly forced into a chamber where they are told they will be taking showers. The door is then closed, locked, and the Germans drop Zyklon B pellets in from the top. In a frantic search, Bruno's parents arrive at the gas chamber, but they are too late. I feel that this movie is a work of art because it illustrates the atrocities of the Nazis from a nine year-old's point of view. This emotional work shows the innocence of a child who doesn't understand why there should be hatred against people who are different. Shmuel doesn't appear to be any different from other boys in Bruno's point of view. The simplicity of a child's mind contrasts greatly with the horrible acts that were committed during this time. The ending of the movie was quite surprising and almost shocked me. It's quite sad that it takes the death of his own son for Bruno's father to realize what the Nazis are doing is wrong.

There is something about music that, I guess you can say, speaks to me. Is it the way that all of those instruments can somehow magically mesh together to form a harmonious tune? Or is it how it makes me feel that things in life can change and how life doesn’t really have to be this difficult? Listening to “I Dreamed a Dream” from the classic Broadway show Les Miserables truly gets to me. It’s not only because it mixes my two favorite things: music and acting, but it is a beautiful song built entirely out of the pain from a woman’s heart who clearly just wants her life to be the way she imagined it. The song holds a story, and that story is that her lover left her and her daughter with nothing but the clothes on their back. Having this happen to them, and even to anyone in general would be completely life changing. And in Fantine’s case it was. After he left her, she decides that her only way to obtain an income was by being a prostitute. And I know you will probably get a little mad about me adding that in there but it was necessary. Having that sort of job would make me hate my life too. As if her life couldn’t get any better though, her daughter is taken by evil foster parents who completely abuse her and use her to their advantage. But thankfully, Fantine gets an actual job working in a factory with people that, of course, hate her. And to top it all off, she is slowly dying of tuberculosis. Now I don’t know about you but I think she has her reasons to be singing this song. Also, in the song she says “I had a dream my life would be, so different from this hell I’m living, so different now from what it seemed, now life has killed the dream I dreamed.” These few lines are very deep and have a great way of ending this peice of music. And eventhough this being my choice for my favorite work of art seems pretty strange, I don’t care because this song really does speak to me. And I guess that’s what it’s all about in the end. Not really caring what it looks like to other people, but how it feels to you.

When I was little if there was one movie I watched over and over again I would have to say ‘The Lion King’. As I grew older I realized the how much this movie had actually impacted me. The first time I saw ‘The Lion King’ I was very young, I was three months old (according to my mother). I was mesmerized by all the colors of the Jungle and all the different animals in the movie. ‘The Lion King’ was such an influence on me for my birthday when I was seven I went to see the movie on the Broadway stage in New York City. Then I saw it again when I was 13 on the same stage! The movie impacted me so much when I was little, it gave me imagination and it brought joy to my eyes. In this movie Simba is the main character, he is the son of the “king of the jungle” Mufasa. Mufasa is the leader of this particular pack of lions, and his brother Scar is very jealous of this. Scar kills Mufasa by tricking him into saving Simba in a stampede. When Simba sees his father die he is horrified and scar tells Simba it’s his fault so that he will run away and Scar can be the leader of the pack. Simba then runs away deeper into the jungle where he meets his best friends, Timon and Pumba. They teach him a very important lesson ‘Hakuna Matata’ which means ‘no worries’. I personally use this saying a lot in my life, and I always have because of this movie. In the end Nala comes to find Simba and Simba comes back to lead the pack back into glory. This is my favorite ‘work’ because of one main reason, ‘Hakuna Matata’. My father has cancer and this movie has taught me the ‘bright side’ of every situation. This Movie and Play made me feel more than think. Because when I saw it in New York the characters interacted with the audience and it was so alive I could feel the emotion from the actors. Their costumes and the set was such beautiful artwork that the audience felt like they were really there with the characters. This movie is a movie that can relate to everyone in one way or another, it taught me the meaning of ‘no worries’.

Before this summer movies for me were just a way to hang out with friends and have a good laugh or a scare. But after seeing this summers blockbuster, "Inception" I knew right away it was a true work of art. The movie is difficult to explain in a few short words but basically its a movie about having the ability to manipulate yours dreams to the point where it changes your actions in the future. The movie kicks off telling you about two extractors one of which is Leonardo Dicaprio and how they're goal is to go inside peoples minds and extract their ideas and use them as their own. Then when they are offered the opportunity to do a job that is the exact opposite known as Inception they take a turn for the worse. In short they develop an elaborate plan to convince a very powerful buisiness man to break up his father's company through his dreams. While inside his subconcious however things become complicated because the main characters own thoughts of his passed away wife. Eventually after many complicated events they finally all awake simultaneously having completed their task. To me this movie was really a work of art because it does make you think about everything the film has to offer especially the cliff hanger ending where it makes you question the legitamacy of the events that occured previously, making the movie more interesting. Not only was it entertaining but it truly does appeal to a persons need to want to escape from all the troubles and hardships of everyday life. The thought of being able to momemntarily slip into a dream world where what you imagine is reality is amazing. This film was very innovative and made a real impact to not only my view on the possiblity of a film being considered art but an impact to those who watched it or plan too.

My personal favorite work of art would have to be the movie The Last Song. It tells of a passionate summer romance shared between a girl named Veronica and a boy named Will. Veronica, referred to mostly as “Ronnie”, is an extremely talented girl who has always had a special place in her heart for the piano, ever since she was very young. Although, when she witnessed the break up and divorce of her parents it struck her emotions very deeply. It was as if she was a completely different person; the sweet, innocent Veronica that everyone knew had transformed into a rebellious girl who was always getting into trouble, whether it was stealing or some other crime. So when her father moved away from New York City to Georgia, Veronica was forced to spend her summer there so that she could hopefully get out of her bad habits and spend quality time with her father. Veronica is in her in own little world the entire summer and does not even bother to acknowledge her father’s existence. She finds an escape from her melancholy life when she meets Will, the last person she would expect to fall in love with. Her romance with Will seemed to bring back old memories of when she used to play the piano, so one day she decided to play for him. Once she placed her fingers on the piano it felt as if she had never stopped playing. Finally when everything couldn’t get any better in Veronica’s life, the most unexpected, tragic event occurs. I believe this story teaches a magnificent lesson about love. Even when we are at a point in our lives when we seem to question our love, or seem to have lost our love, we will always find it again. Love will always return. The most incredible things can happen when you feel like you could break down at any moment.

I have seen many works of art in my life, but the one that really stands out to me is the movie “The Last Song.” Since the main character is a teenage girl, I found this moving appealing. Even though her life is very different from mine, I could really relate to it. I found this movie interesting because it dealt with love, loss, and truth.

Ronnie is a teenage girl who is a gifted pianist. After her parents separate, Ronnie quits playing the piano. Ronnie's Dad moves away and their relationship suffers. Ronnie and her younger brother, Jonah, go to stay with their Dad for the summer. While driving to her dad's house, they pass a church that is being rebuilt from a fire. Their dad mentions that he is responsible for the fire because he was the last person out.

When she arrives at her dad's house, Ronnie tries to be a rebel. She does not spend a lot of time at the house, but hangs out with her friends. Her younger brother, Jonah, stays close to his dad and keeps him company. As she is on the boardwalk one day, she meets, Will, her future boyfriend. One day when Ronnie is on the beach, she sees racoons digging up turtle eggs. She runs and screams to scare the racoon away. Since she is too worried that the raccoon will come back, she sleeps outside to protect the eggs. Will comes to check out the situation with the turtle eggs and they begin talking.

As Ronnie and Will spend more time together, Ronnie's relationship with her dad becomes stronger. Will's wealthy family is not happy with Ronnie's background. Eventually, Ronnie feels so comfortable with Will that she plays the piano at his house.

Just when summer is about to end, Ronnie, Jonah, their dad and Will are watching the turtle eggs hatch. The dad goes to get flashlights and collapses. As Ronnie visits him in the hospital, she learns he has cancer. She becomes upset with him because he has been hiding it. In Ronnie's dad's final days, Will and his friend confess they burnt down the church. Ronnie instantly breaks up with Will because she says that he hurt her dad's reputation. On his last day, Ronnie finishes the song that her dad started to write for her. At the funeral, Ronnie plays the song. Will shows up along with a lot of her friends. Ronnie and Will eventually get back together.

This movie appealed to my intellect because it reminded me that when you think life is going the way you want, God may have other plans both good or bad. This movie made me realize it is important to appreciate everything that you have, because before you know it, it is gone forever.

Art can be defined as many different things. It includes but is not limited to the fine arts such as painting. It includes music too! My favorite type of art would have to be music. Music is a major part of my life. I’m always listening to it and my favorite artist would have to be Sara Bareilles. She is a singer-songwriter and a pianist! Another one of her many talents are playing the guitar! That’s just amazing to be able to have that much going for you at such a young age (31). My favorite song by Sara is “King of Anything.” This song is about wanting to have control over your own life. The song describes a man thinking he knows best about what’s right for her. He sounds so innocent and full of good intent but she says its time for her to decide. She says, “Who cares if you disagree? You are not me. Who made you king of anything?” That very line is actually where the name of the song comes from. I have actually seen Sara Bareilles in concert a few years ago and that’s when I started to absolutely love her music and lyrics and pianist abilities. The reason why this song just happens to be my favorite is partly the upbeat and catchy rhythm of the song; also the meaning of the words. This song is empowering for women and it’s almost taking a stand saying that the girl in the song can make her own decisions and can carry herself through life just fine without being saved by the man in the song. This is generally a pretty happy and positive song in my opinion. Others may think differently but I believe that it’s positive! Most of Sara Bareilles songs are about people trying to tell the girl in the song things but her making up her own mind. I love the message that is song sends out to all who listen and really ponder the words.

Over my life, I’ve had many favorite works of art, whether it was movies, music, or paintings. But my absolute favorite work of art is the movie Titanic. This movie made me realize that you have to appreciate every minute of every day, because you don’t know when the end is going to be. I still remember the first time I saw it. I was 12 years old and my sister and I were sitting around doing nothing. She turned to me and said “have you ever seen the movie Titanic?” I said no. So she ran upstairs, grabbed the DVDs and raced to put them in! Since the movie is so long, it’s split into two parts. I was already mesmerized half way through the first part! Then the TV went black and I yelled to my sister “Katlin, hurry and put the next disk in!” I could hardly wait! By the end of the movie, my face was so red and my eyes were so puffy from crying! It pierced my heart! So many emotions were still running through me! The fact that it was a true story astounded me! What really touched me was the music that was in the movie. It really adds to the effect. I could watch Titanic over and over again! I absoluty love it.

For my favorite work of start I chose the song “It’s a small world”. I chose this song because the lyrics really relate to my life and also because it makes me think about all my wonderful memories at Disney. The first line in the song is “it’s a world of laughter, it’s a world of tears”. This line is very true in everyones life. Although everyone would love their life to be perfect that’s not always the case. Each and everyday we are faced with hardships and challenges that we have to get through. But there are also happy times too which are “full of laughter”. A specific example on how this relates to my life is a recent death in my family, my grandfather. We remember all the good times we had with him and all the laughter we shared. Our time of tears was when he passed away. Even though it was very hard to deal with we still got through it by remembering all the great times we had with him. The next line in the song is “it’s a world of hopes, it’s a world of fear”. This line makes me think about the war. We all hope for peace and fear for the soldiers. Everyday the soldiers fight for our country and also fight for their lives. They are put in life threatening situations daily.

It took me all week to think of my favorite work of art. I love so many different movies, songs, t.v shows etc. but I couldn’t think of my absolute FAVORITE. Then I thought back to my childhood the days when my sister and I would watch the movie Now and Then after school like it was a new episode each time. Every time it was the same movie, but every time it seemed to get better and better; especially when we could recite every word. Now and Then is a movie about four women meeting back up in their hometown of Shelby Indiana. They made a pact when they were younger to always be there when any one of them needed anything. But the adults soon vanish from the screen and the movie turns into a flashback from the summer of 1970 when the girls were inseparable. Teeny, the drama queen who knew at the age of 12 she’d win an Oscar, Chrissy, shy and girly, Sam, serious and smart, and Roberta the tom boy are best friends despite how different they all are. I love this movie because there are so many story lines. Roberta is dealing with the death of her mother while Sam is dealing with her father moving out. The girls try to solve a town mystery by having a séance near the grave of the infamous “dear Johnny.” Their acting portrays perfectly the humorous and touching parts of “growing up.” Some people would call this movie dull and predictable. I disagree; I guess it’s not too dull and predictable if I still get mad when I miss my favorite parts after seeing them a million times.

My favorite work of art would be the book Twilight. Twilight is written by Stephenie Meyer. It is about a quiet and awkward girl named Bella who moves to Forks, Washington to live with her dad, where she soon falls in love with the vampire Edward Cullen. When first meeting him in class, Edward is forced to stay away from her because he is so attracted to her. Bella soon finds out he is a vampire due to his cold skin, changing eye color, incredible strength, and his sparkling skin in the sunlight. Bella doesn't care that he is a vampire because she knows that he won't hurt her. Bella finds herself risking her own life just to be with him. She gets tricked into meeting another vampire who then attacks and bites her. Edward sucks the venom out of her to save her life. The book ends with Bella telling Edward that she wants to be a vampire too, so that she can live forever with him. The theme of the book is the main reason why I think it is my favorite work. I loved reading about the relationship between them. Bella loves Edward and would do anything to be with him, including risking her own life, while Edward is very protective and loving to her. You feel like you are in Bella's position with the way Stephenie Meyer describes Bella's feelings and her forbidden love. Twilight is a suspenseful, exciting story that shows the power of love and what it can do to someone. This book kept my interest and would too for any teenage girl. When I first started reading this book, I found myself reading it at every moment I could. I could probably read it over and over again. Twilight is a book I would recommend to anyone.

My favorite work of art is the movie Finding Nemo. I remember watching it for the first time. The brilliant colors captured me and made the movie, even though animated, realistic. In this story a young family of fish is attacked by a barracuda. The only fish that survive are the father and one baby fish that is named Nemo. After the horrible accident, the father fish is paranoid about everything. He takes safety to the extreme and therefore, Nemo has a very sheltered life. When it comes the time for Nemo to start going to school, he is relieved escape his father’s overprotecting ways and learn the meaning of adventure and discover life beyond his home. However because of this new sense of adventure, Nemo and his friends get themselves into trouble and Nemo ends up getting kidnapped by humans. When his father witnesses this, he chases after Nemo and is determined to save him. Along his journey to save his son, Marlin, Nemo’s father, comes across a fish with short term memory loss. They become friends and she ends up sticking with him until his son is found. Although her memory problem got on marlin’s nerves many times, she ends up helping Marlin find his son in many big ways. The movie Finding Nemo touched me, by showing the strong love of a parent in a way that even young children can understand. Marlin risked his life and would stop at nothing to find his son. This movie also showed me the meaning of friendship. Marlin’s friend Dory knew how much of a challenge it would be to find Nemo, and knew that she wouldn’t be much help because of her memory problem. However she stuck to Marlins side until he found Nemo and tried to help on every way possible. Even though this is a movie for children, it is enjoyable for people of all ages. It has drama, comedy, tragedy, and much more. I also enjoy the beautiful colors and animation of this movie. It really takes you on an adventure and shows how beautiful and magnificent the ocean is.

One of my all time favorite movies is Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life. This movie is about a man named George Bailey, his family, and his town of Bedford Falls. In the movie, the main character George Bailey realizes that he is living a wonderful life by seeing what the world and his small town of Bedford Falls would be like if he “hadn’t been born.” In the movie George is about to commit suicide when his guardian angel is sent to save him. It is the angel who grants George’s wish that he had “never been born.” George then doesn’t believe his angel, Clarance, and tries to find his family, but no one knows who he is because he is living like he was never born. Near the end of the movie George misses his family and learns his “lesson.” George receives money from all the townspeople of Bedford Falls and is able to settle his debt and then lives a prosperous life thereafter. Part of the reason why this is my favorite movie, and work of art, is because my family has watched it every year, for a long time, around Christmas. Watching this movie has become a tradition in my family. The first time I saw this movie I was very little. Although I probably slept through most of the movie, and didn’t understand what was happening in it, I can still remember sitting around the television in my family room with my family around me. The movie teaches me that I should treasure my family and enjoy the moments we spend together. This great work of art also tells me that I should enjoy my life and live it the best way I can, because it could change at any moment. My family came together to watch this movie, just how George’s family and friends come together at the end of the movie to celebrate their unity and support the Bailey family, their fellow neighbors, through their financial woes. As you can see, there are many lessons to be learned by even the simplest things in life, or even by a work of art.

I have seen many works of art, but the one that really stands out to me is the movie “The Last Song.” Since the main character is a teenage girl, I found this moving appealing. Even though her life is very different from mine, I could really relate to it. Ronnie is a teenage girl who is a gifted pianist. After her parents separate, Ronnie quits playing the piano. Ronnie's Dad moves away and their relationship suffers. Ronnie and her younger brother, Jonah, go to stay with their Dad. While driving there, they pass a church that is being rebuilt from a fire. Their dad mentions that he is responsible for the fire because he was the last person out. Ronnie does not spend a lot of time at the house, but hangs out with her friends. Her younger brother, Jonah, stays close to his dad. As she is on the boardwalk one day, she meets, Will, her future boyfriend. One day when Ronnie is on the beach, she sees racoons digging up turtle eggs. She runs and screams to scare the racoon away. Ronnie learns he has cancer and is upset because he has been hiding it. In Ronnie's dad's final days, Will and his friend confess they burnt down the church. Ronnie instantly breaks up with Will because she says that he hurt her dad's reputation. My favorite piece of art would have to be the song "18 and Life" by Skid Row. It is about a young boy named Ricky. He grew up on the bad side of town, and after barely graduating school he is left with no money and no home. He made a couple of bad decisions like doing drugs and drinking alcohol, and that leads to more bad decisions. He soon becomes an alcoholic, which is indicated by the verse: "When the bottle's your best friend". Then Ricky goes off drinking one night and he "fired his six-shot to the wind" and kills a child. Ricky gets sent to jail for life for killing the child. I think that this song is more than just a great metal ballad. What this song means to me is that you only have one life, so don't screw it up. Don't make bad decisions when you are younger because you have your whole life ahead of you. If you don't travel down the wrong path in life, it will pay off in the long run.

One of my favorite works of art is the movie “Black Hawk Down”. The first time I saw this movie was at my friends’ house and I loved it. I have probably seen it 20 times since then. This movie is a about a mission that the U.S. rangers went on in Somalia. This mission was supposed to only take about a half hour but went completely wrong and ended up taking about a day and a half. Everything went down once the first helicopter went down in the middle of the city. All of the soldiers had to get to the helicopter with low ammo and no water since they planned for a short mission. There were many injured soldiers but the area was too dangerous to get any of them help. Many soldiers died and one of the pilots were held captive by the Somalians but was saved a week later. The soldiers kept fighting as another helicopter went down and finally the next morning it was time to go back to base. There weren’t enough vehicles so the soldiers wounded and all had to run back for 12 miles. I like this movie because of the bravery of the soldiers that did that. I look up to them for never giving up and fighting until the end. The day 11 Rangers died and many were injured. About 1,000 Somalians died that day but they still consider it a victory for them.

I love to watch musicals, but one of my favorite musicals must be "Hairspray." I love the movie version made in 2007. This movie was starred by people like John Travolta, Nikki Blonsky, Queen Latifah, and Zac Efron just to name a few of the main cast. This has to be one of my favorite musicals because of the comedic script and the way the actors and actresses pursue their parts. They are so well rounded from the singing to the acting.
Not only was the acting and singing good, but the music was really inspiring. Every song that was sang also went well with the story line and it was very catchy which makes a musical really good. One example of an inspirational song in the musical was, "I know where I've Been" sang by Queen Latifah by her character Miss Maybelle. Since this movie was based around the time of segregation, this song is about how how we should stop segregation and the hard times colored people had to go through during this time period. During this song the scene is very powerful and emotional because this is the scene where not only did color people stand up for themselves but also the white people who knew segregation was wrong helped too. This is an inspiring musical with amazing music, a funny script and a plot that will make you watch it until the very end.

My favorite form of art is ballet. Ballet is a way to express yourself through movement. When you watch a ballet, such as the Nutcracker, you cannot help but have a smile on your face because it brings joy and memories to those watching. Because I am a dancer, I have had the experience of seeing many performances and being able to perform in them. Ballet is not an easy art form; it requires hours of practice, discipline, and strength. While performing in a show, ballerinas are supposed to make the audience believe that what they are doing looks effortless. But holding your leg above your head and dancing on your toes isn’t easy at all. In all the excitement of the performance, lights, and costumes, dancers still need to focus and remember all of their steps. I love ballet and being able to perform in front of many people. I love being different characters because it almost takes you out of the real world and into your own fantasy world. I love ballet and that’s why I dance almost everyday. Ballet is without a doubt my favorite art form even though it takes years and years of practice.

To be an icon in the world of art, the artist needs to stand out among countless other representations. The artist must captivate mankind to upgrade their name to a legend. Lauren Froderman, from Phoenix, Arizona hypnotized millions of viewers with her extraordinary talent. Although she was an ordinary girl from Phoenix, Arizona, her superb talent for dance proved to the world she was far from the average 18 year old. Lauren Froderman created my favorite work of art, her solo titled “At Last,” by Aretha Franklin. When Forderman showcased her dance on season seven “So You Think You Can Dance” tryouts, she acted as a magnet, and attracted millions of fans. I fell in love with her work of art because she took a familiar song written by the Queen of Soul and made it youthful, playful and a breath of fresh air! Although Froderman used a rhythm and blues song, she added an upbeat twist that gave me a different and pleasing outlook on the song. Forderman also includes her strength in the dance, which I admire and strive to accomplish when I perform. I enjoy how Lauren infuses a feminine style with masculine power and strength through her movements. The aspiring entertainer tells a story while she performs this dance and does not let steps distract her from feeling the song. Lauren lives in the performance and could also be known as an actress because she achieves making the audience believe she is the character telling a story. Rather than speak words, the story is told through her dance. Lauren Froderman’s dance inspires me to incorporate her style in my dance. Her ability explains how dancers have just as much strength as any athlete specializing in a different sport.
This is “At Last” performed by “So You Think You Can Dance” winner, Lauren Froderman: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5K8lfkZKYY&feature=related

Movies are a major thing in my life. I watch them whenever I’m bored or sad to cheer me up. Which leads me my favorite piece of art which I think would have to be David Zucker’s , Scary movie 3. It is about a girl named Cindy who must stop a mass murder that the aliens are planning to kill the humans, or so she thinks. It starts out with a tape of which you die a week after watching. But once it is shown on the news and everyone watches it the humans think that the aliens are coming to earth to kill them all. When the aliens get there they said they watched the tape too and really the only way to not die is to kill the girl who imprinted her evil on the tape. So in the end they kill her and everybody is happy. It’s my favorite work because it’s funny and makes me feel happy. It also makes me think about what would really happen if this exact scenario happened. I know that this will probably never happen but it makes you think what people would really do in situation like it. I don’t know what I would personal do in a situation like this, but the people in this movie come together to fight of the aliens at first and the evil girl too. So this movie also shows the importance of team work, and love because the guy that loves Cindy saves her in the end.

My favorite work of art would have to be a movie that I have always loved. The movie I chose as my favorite work of art is the ‘The Goonies’. The movie is about a group of neighborhood friends who hang out and eventually walk the plank, diving into a sea of adventure! This group of friends calls themselves “The Goonies” because they are the outcasts of most groups of kids. They find an old treasure map in the attic of one boy’s house the day before his family is moving out. They relate the treasure map to an old story of One-Eyed Willie. The group decides to follow the map eventually leading them to an old restaurant where criminals hide out. The boys find a passage downstairs and this is where the adventure begins! Still following the map through the passage, the group goes through a course of Willie’s traps to get closer to the treasure. The criminals from the restaurant end up catching “The Goonies”, trying to beat them to the treasure. The boys find Willie’s treasure with the criminals close behind them. Eventually, “The Goonies” keep some of the treasure, the criminals are caught, and the group gets to go back home. In the end, “The Goonies” save the day by using the treasure they kept to save the boy’s house, so their family doesn’t have to move. This movie is my favorite piece of art because it is a classic adventure movie that I never get tired of watching. This movie makes you believe that you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it. After watching this action packed film, you want to go on an adventure. This movie not only shows that you have the ability to achieve things when you are still a “teen”, but it also gives a great example of friendship and love. “The Goonies” is my favorite piece of art because it is one movie that I get excited about and enjoy watching.

My Favorite work of art is the movie John Tucker Must Die. The movie is about a guy named John Tucker who is the mister popular in high school, who is the star basketball player, and who is cheating on four different girls. John tells the girls they can’t tell people they are in a relationship because he can’t have a girlfriend during basketball season. He picks one girl from different cliques to make sure they never find out he is cheating on them. One day, all the gym classes get joined together, and the four girls John is cheating on get put on the same volleyball team. One of the girls says she is going out with John Tucker and the other girls say their going out with him too. That is when they all realize he is cheating on all of them and they want to get revenge on him. They ask one of the new girls, Kate, to help them get back at John. They decide to make John “undatable,” but that doesn’t work so they decide to just break his heart. The girls make Kate the kind of girl John likes and teaches her how to make John want her. John and Kate go out a few times, and he asks her to be his girlfriend. Once a year John has a birthday party, and that is where the girls were going to break his heart, but he finds out about their revenge before they get to break his heart. John after that decides to be honest with all the girls he dates, and Kate becomes a legend. This is my favorite piece of work because it relates to a high school girls real life. Girls always get cheated on by boys, but boys never know what it feels like to have their heart broken. This movie makes girls feel like they can make a boy fell the same way they do. After girls get cheated on, they can watch this movie and relate to how the girls feel in the movie. John Tucker Must Die is a good movie for teenage girls to watch and be able to relate to, that is why it is my favorite piece of work.

Considering there are so many mediums of art, it was difficult for me to think of my “favorite” as quickly as some did. Some people don‘t realize that they‘re surrounded by art, constantly. Even during your ride to school this morning, you were surrounded by art. Some of this "undercover art" includes architecture, store logos, radio music, and you were even sitting in a “work of art” at that moment. I decided to chose a medium that most would not think of when they first think of art, automobiles. Some movies or paintings portray adventure, but vehicles are one of the few forms of art that gives out an actual sense of freedom and excitement. My favorite of all of these "works” would have to be the Mazda Ryuga. This car was designed by a group of men in Japan in the late twentieth century. Ryuga means “gracious flow” in Japanese, which accurately explains the beautifully designed exterior. It appeals to the younger generation because of it’s futuristic design, but it’s not only a younger person vehicle. Many older people are attracted to this car as well because of it’s elegance and sophistication shown by it’s high quality materials, high comfort level, and “hidden details.” For those viewing this post that have not seen this car, I have posted a link of the interior and exterior of the car at the bottom on this post. Usually, the Mazda design has the "built-in smile." This smile makes the car look like it's grinning back at you. I love the way they thought of the costumer when making this because, sometimes, even the smallest hint of happiness can brighten up your day. You may be able to see the grin in the front of this car, but it's harder to see in this specific car than most other Mazdas. You can tell how much time the designers and mechanics spent on making this, and I applaud their creativity. One of the reasons that this is my favorite “work of art” is because it reminds me that art is everywhere. If art is everywhere that also means that artists are everywhere. The idea of considering yourself an artist is empowering and can give anyone, even those who may consider themselves insignificant, a sense of importance. Everyone has created some form of art at one time or another, making us all artists. When I see the Mazda Ryuga, I don’t just see a way to get from one place to another, but, instead, I see something that can compared to the magnificence of famous paintings around the world.

by it’s high quality materials, high comfort level, and “hidden details.” For those viewing this post that have not seen this car, I have posted a link of the interior and exterior of the car at the bottom on this post. One of the reasons that this is my favorite “work of art” is because it reminds me that art is everywhere. If art is everywhere that also means that artists are everywhere. The idea of considering yourself an artist is empowering and can give anyone. who may feel insignificant, a sense of importance. Everyone has created some form of art at one time or another, making us all artists. When I see the Mazda Ryuga, I don’t just see a way to get from one place to another, but, instead, I see something that can compared to the magnificence of famous paintings around the world.

Currently, my favorite work of art is an album from a favorite band of mine, AFI’s decemberunderground. It was the first album I owned from the band. I was so enthused when I opened the new CD, and before I put it in my radio to hear it, I pulled out the booklet with the lyrics in the front; I skimmed through its pages, and noticed the amazing photography of trees stripped of their leaves, bare vines, and a reoccurring theme of three onyx rabbits. I liked the art work they used to present the collection of songs, and it put me in the atmosphere the band wanted me to enter when I experienced their music, their feelings.

The album starts off with quiet, captivating piano playing, then the song right after that kicks of the rest of the album with an energetic, fast, and excited feel. I believe the contrasting emotions and sounds portrayed in the album give it such interesting qualities. The singer, responsible for the lyrics, uses words that match the music of the guitar, bass, and drums. The melodies and tempos also keep with the frosty feel of winter, or December. This cold and generally slow time of year, winter, was my favorite season as a kid. I loved playing in the snow instead of sweating on a humid day at the beach. Even though it was summer, listening to decemberunderground brought me to the white, fresh winter times I had so much fun in.

When people hear the word “art” immediately images of paintings and sculptures by famous artists come to mind, such as Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, or the statue of David by Michelangelo. People don’t think of everyday works of art such as Movies, Songs, or Books. Personally, my favorite work of art is, Steven Spielberg’s classic, Jurassic Park. This is one of my favorite movies because I like science fiction movies. I think that the theories the characters talk about in the movie sound so real that they should be tested. The movie starts on a fossil dig site where an archaeologist named Alan Grant and his student and girlfriend, Ellie Sattler, are invited to Jurassic Park by the man behind the whole park, Dr. John Hammond. Upon arriving at the island where Jurassic Park is located, Alan, Ellie and Dr. Hammond meet up with Ian Malcolm, Dr. Hammond’s grandchildren, Tim and Alexis Murphy, and Dr. Hammond’s lawyer, Donald. Upon entering the park Alan and Ellie are talking to each other about how nothing at the park could possibly be real, until they both watch a huge dinosaur walking by. Everyone goes for a tour around the park until a hurricane warning causes the tour to stop. As they are stranded next to the T-Rex pen, a worker at the park named Dennis turns off all of the security systems to the park. He did this because he was paid to steal all of the park’s secrets, and he needed to find a way off the island without being stopped. He never makes it off the island. Instead he gets attacked by a dinosaur. The dinosaurs start breaking out of their pens and terrorizing the people. Alan, Tim, and Alexis get separated from the main group and are chased by the T-Rex. Eventually, everyone is joined together again and they find a way to get off the island. I like how this movie just proves the fact that almost nothing in life can be controlled.

My favorite piece of art would have to be Eminem’s new album, the recovery album. The reason why I chose this as my favorite work of art is because it’s inspirational. Eminem has not had an easy life. He has been through man hardships, poverty, divorce, and drug addiction. This album is about a clean slate. He not only speaks the truth but he spreads good messages in several songs. My favorite song of his is 25 to life. In this song Eminem talks about his relationship with hip hop. He uses personification very well in this song by saying hip hop is like ex wife. A good quote to show this is, “I don’t think she understands the sacrifices that I made maybe if this chick had acted right I would’ve stayed.” In this quote Eminem is comparing his addiction with heroine to his relationship with his ex wife (hip hop). This song is very powerful and it talks about how he is now clean and is leaving the past in the past. Eminem is a very moving human being. He teaches me that even though things get bad you should keep your head high and move forward; don’t let what happened in the past effect your ability to succeed in the future. Eminem is one strong person.

I have always loved music, ever since I was a little kid and any kind of music too. Over the years there has been songs that I have liked or listened to over and over again but one song really hit me, Hurricane by Bob Dylan. When I first heard the song I had no idea what to think, I didn’t really understand what he was singing about so as soon as I got home I went on the computer searched up the meaning of that song. Bob Dylan wrote the song as a protest song because of the popular African-American boxer Rubin “Hurricane” Carter who, Dylan thought was wrongly imprisoned, which from what I have heard I would have to agree with Dyaln. The emotions I experienced during this song were surprising to me because hearing this song I became angry, and the reason I think I felt angry is because the way the police officers were being so unfair and not acceptable and they were being unfair to what seemed to be just a great man who did not deserve it. What I think I really enjoy about this song is the way Bob Dylan can just tell an interesting story with a great piece of art.

I'm not a huge movie fan, and i usually only watch whatever movie my friends usually take me to or whatever is on tv. But on this one beautiful sunny day, my best friend Courtney dragged me to a movie theater. She was dying to see this movie "The Blind Side", which to me looked really good because my favorite actress Sandra Bullock was one of the main characters. So I told Courtney, "alright, only if you're paying for my popcorn". Once we're inside and waiting very comfortably with my overpriced popcorn Courtney leans over to me and says "careful I hear it's a sad one", "yeah right, that's what they always say" I reply. But little did I know that it was a much more deeper meaning movie than about some woman sharing kindness to someone in need. This movie is about a 17 year old boy named Michael who is moved around to foster care throught towns, who usually ends up in the beat up sections of town with the wrong group of people. When one day, Michael is walking along the side of the road in the pouring rain when Leigh Anne Tuhoy a mother of two, pulls over to see if he needs a place to stay for the night. She eventually invites Michael to become part of their family. He is sent to one of the best schools, where they realize that he might not be the best at learning or academics but he is very protective, which gives Leigh Anne an idea to sign him up for football. Leighann and SJ teach Michael how to play football and helped him get his grades up. Michael soon goes to college where he gets drafted into the NFL. The lights turn on at the theater and I can feel the tears running down my face. It wasn't just a story about showing kindness around you, it was about showing love to everyone even if they look like a shady person to trust, that just might mean that they might need the most love to be shown to them.

A truly amazing work of art that I witnessed live about 2 years ago is STOMP. This group of “musicians” uses everyday items like brooms, trashcans, pipes, etc. to make wonderful music that sounds like actual instruments. Not only is there this innovative musical aspect in the show, but also a theatrical aspect that is quite humorous and comical. As the group moves from scene to scene on stage, the props used to make the music get even crazier and more imaginative. They keep you guessing until the end of the show, when they leave you wanting more. I first saw stomp on an episode of Sesame Street where two men walked in with giant metal trashcans strapped to their feet, banging them on the ground, against each other, and banging them with drumsticks. All of this banging actually produced a beat that sounded just the same, if not better, than any other beat I had heard. They later had four people using there hands to make a beat that was just as amazing to listen to as the banging trashcans. I was intrigued by how they brought music to the most simplistic state that they could, and make is something extraordinary. That’s why stomp is the most mind-boggling and credit worthy work of art I have ever encountered.

Throughout my life I have liked many works of art, though recently one particular work has caught my attention. This work is the movie Backdraft, about a group of firefighters in Chicago dealing with the struggles of everyday life as well as going to fires. The main character Brian McCaffrey, a rookie firefighter who is trying to gain the respect of his older brother and other firefighters while at the same time trying to follow in his father's footsteps who he watched die in a fire as a young child. I think this movie did a very good job of capturing the lives of firefighters both on and off duty. Me also being a rookie firefighter I can personally relate to some of the hardships Brian had to go through at the beginning and throughout the movie. Another interesting part of this movie is that while Brian is trying to make it as a firefighter he is recruited to help a fire marshal investigate a string of arsons that are killing civilians and also injuring firefighters. Brian is harassed by his brother and other firefighters for becoming a fire marshal's aide instead of continuing to become a firefighter but he feels that he is helping his community by trying to catch an arsonist. During the coarse of this movie Brian falls in love with a girl which also brings in another angle of a firefighter's life that most people don't get to see, juggling home life with life at the firehouse. In the end Brian catches the arsonist who is a fellow firefighter gaining the respect of his Brother just before his brother dies in a "Backdraft" set up by the arsonist before being caught. I feel this movie is a work of art just because it gives the viewers a taste of reality that firefighters go through every day.

My favorite work of art would have to be the tv series the OC by Josh Schwartz. This is about how a teenager Ryan Atwood gets in trouble and is adopted by a couple Sandy and Kirsten Cohen. Sandy and Kirsten Cohen also have a son of there own Seth Cohen. As soon as Ryan is brought back to their house he becomes like family. Ryan and Seth develop a strong bond just like they are blood brothers. While Ryan is living with them he begins to have feelings for the neighbor girl Marissa Cooper and Seth begins to talk Summer Roberts, the girl he has been in love with for years. Through the show they are growing up and facing some of the difficulties we face in our lives too. Marissa’s parents get a divorce, her step dad also Seth’s grandpa dies, her family goes into debt, her mom starts falling in love Summer’s dad. Summer’s dad divorces his wife and starts to fall in love with Marissa’s mom. Ryan changes his behavior and is no longer involved with breaking in to places and stealing. Seth is no longer the innocent kid he is now involved in drugs. These teenagers also attending high school. This is a 4 season series. A lot happens to these teenagers throughout this time. I first watched this with my older sister, Lauren. Her friend showed it to her and once we started watching it we couldn’t stop. Its not that it was all realistic but you wanted to keep watching to see what would happen in these teenagers lives. In the show some times they did stupid stuff and it just shows you what would happen if you did that stuff in real life. This is my favorite work of art because it relates to me and some of the things that happen.

My favorite work of art is not a painting or a movie but a song. This song is Straight Edge by Minor Threat. I and many other people consider this song to be the anthem to the Straight Edge lifestyle. The song describes the Ian MacKaye’s, the writer, feelings on using drugs and drinking. The Straight Edge lifestyle consists of not using drugs or drinking because it isn’t a smart choice and it just causes problems. The songs main focus is about how we just don’t need drugs or drinks to live or to have fun. This song had a great effect on my life because after hearing it I decided to follow the Straight Edge life style. I first heard it about three years ago in the car on the way to school with my sister and I couldn’t stop listening to it. Not only do I love it because of the message in the lyrics but I just plain and simple love the song. This is my favorite piece of art because of the effect it had on me and all the other people within the Straight Edge community. The Straight Edge community is not just the lifestyle. There are thousands of bands who felt the message from Minor Threat’s song was so inspiring that they started their own bands centered around the straight edge lifestyle.

Personally, my favorite work of art would have to be the movie “She’s the Man.” This movie is a modernized version and based on Shakespeare’s story of the “Twelfth Night.” I would definitely say that this movie is a comedy and somewhat a love story. What happens in the movie is that there is a girl named Viola who goes to Cornwall high school and loves soccer. Recently her soccer team got cut and they won’t let her play on the boys soccer team because they don’t think that she is good enough. One of my favorite lines that Viola says in the movie is, “if you can’t join them, then beat them.” Viola has twin brother, Sebastian, and he goes to a private school called Illyria, but he is sneaking off to London for a music tour and only Viola knows he is leaving. Knowing this, Viola disguises as her brother, and tries out for the boys soccer team at his school without Sebastian knowing. Viola makes the soccer team and now just waits until she plays Cornwall high school. It is hard to keep her cover while living with a bunch of guys and on top of that, she has a crush on Duke. What makes it worse is that he is her roommate who also plays soccer with her. Things get a little messy and confusing when Duke likes this girl named Olivia, but she likes Sebastian who is really Viola. Everything gets even worse when the real Sebastian comes home early so there are two Sebastians living at Illyria and both Viola and Sebastian don’t know it. Anyway, in the ending Viola scores the winning goal against Cornwall high school and reveals herself. This movie is an average teen movie, and it is not a chick flick or horror film. Although I do like them, I would prefer a humor movie. I enjoy watching this movie because it makes me laugh and it has a very interesting story. Every time I watch it, it feels like it is the first time I’ve seen it.

My favorite work of art would have to be the film “A Little Princess.” When I was younger, I remember being fascinated by it. I would watch the movie over and over again and never get bored. The movie is about a young girl named Sara who lived with her father in India. Unfortunately, when her father is called to the military she must stay in a boarding school in New York. Sara is an outsider to the other girls. She is seen as a troublemaker and gets locked away in an attic. To her father she is his little princess. That thought alone gets her through all the difficulties she will face. The tagline of this movie is every girl everywhere is a princess no matter who they are. This movie made me feel like a princess. I wanted to be like Sara. When I watched Sara she made me feel like I could do anything I set my mind to or be whoever I wanted to be. Even now when I watch this film I am inspired all over again by the strength a little girl can show. “A Little Princess” is my favorite work of art because it is beautiful, appealing, and its message is significantly more than ordinary.

My favorite work of art is “Lose Yourself“, by Eminem. This song goes through his teenage years when he used to do rap battles and could barely make a living. “Lose Yourself” is also about his life as an only child and about how his father left him and his mother when he was very young. This made his life especially hard, let alone the fact he grew up in a racial black community in Detroit. Detroit is where he started doing the rap battles and where Eminem dropped out of school. When he did drop out is about the time he realized what was important to him, and he started pursuing a career in rapping. As Eminem grew up, he went through two major things in his life: drug addiction, and becoming a father. He includes these things along with what he went through as a kid and teenager in his songs, which is why his songs are unique. Eminem lets us in on his life, and that is part of the reason why he is such an inspirational artist, and why his music has motivated many people, including me. Lose yourself is special to me because it makes you think about your life and what is most important to you. His music can really control your emotions in a way that it captures you, and make you feel like you can do whatever you want to if you set your mind to.

I consider myself to be a pretty big movie buff. I don't limit myself to one specific genre of movies, I have a large variety of favorites. The movies that always seem to jump out and grab my attention are ones that have a deeper meaning like the movie "Miracle at St. Anna". This particular movie is a favorite of mine not just because throughout the movie there is shots being fired and explosions, but because there is a great story in it. The movie starts out in the 1970's in New York City. After one of the employees shoot a man in the middle of the bank we are taken back to the 1940's in WWII. From this point the movie starts to unravel like a mystery. As the story progresses we start to see real life problems like racism. Racism is a big part of the movies conflict. It also makes the story that much more believable. Then we start to see friendship and love. This is a movie that takes your emotions back and forth from sadness to anger. this movie is like an inspiration to me because not only does it shows me what's right in life but also this movie shows me personally that karma can be real, and it can save your life. This movie is my definition of a great piece of art.

My favorite work of art is the movie Miracle. It is a movie about the 1980 USA Olympic ice hockey team. It follows the coach Herb Brookes and the process he had to take to pick the team and put them together before the Olympics where they would have to play the team, they were put together to beat, Russia. This is my favorite work of art because I can relate to it being a hockey player since I was three I understand what the players had to go through to get to where their coach wanted them to be. I also like this movie because one day I hope to be a good enough player to make the Olympic team and have a chance to compete in the Olympics against all the other great athletes. This is an inspiring piece that never gets old to me and I can watch over and over again. I hope other people watch this and feel the same or even greater about this movie as I did.

I love watching movies, its probably what I do the most. I've watched a wide variety of genres of movies. The one movie that really had a strong impact on me was "The Sercret Life of Bees", which was directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. This movie is about a Caucasian girl who is living during the time of segregation with a troubled past. She runs away from her father with her friend, Rosaline, and lives with three African American women that seemed to be the only connection left of her mother. Throughout the movie, Lily learns the true meaning of love, friendship and that color does not mattter. My favorite scene from the movie would have to be when Lily, August, May and June get into a water fight with the hose. What is significant about this scene is that June starts to show her true feelings for Lily. At first June showed hatred and anger towards Lily for some reason. but she learns to love Lily and at the very end of the movie...calls her own daughter. I think that the most important key information about this movie is that you later find out that Lily, shot her own mother on accident, and never ever forgave herself. Towards the end of the movie, her father finally catches up with Lily and finds her at the home with all the people that truely love her. So he leaves her there, and turns to her saying " Good Riddance".. but in Lily's mind he really was saying to her "Lily, you'll be better off here with all of these mothers". That has always been something important to Lily and she has four amazing women to call her mother. This movie did recieve seven stars..but it really does show you the hardship of never letting go. Something that many people struggle with today. But Lily shows that, sometimes when you lose something shortly after something better comes along.

For my work of art I am writing about Forrest Gump. This is a very successful movie from 1994 that is an outstanding work of art. It tells a story about a guy who isn’t very smart according to the modern society by having a low IQ. Despite this he shows he knows just as much if not more about the simple things of life. What its like to be a great friend, what its like to love someone, and what its like to be a hero to millions. He reminds us of what life is really about and what should really matter to us in our lives. He was just trying to please the people that mattered to him most. This is the art of life, not a stereotypical guy and making an impact on life and people around him. He became successful in every aspect of life, despite his disability, he showed the art of life. That’s why this film stood out to me the first time I saw it with my dad around 9 years old. Of course I didn’t understand the whole movie at the time but as I got older and saw the movie more it made more sense each time. This to me is a true work of art that grows finer with time. And that’s all I gots to say about that.

To some music may just be something that’s taken for granted, but for most of us it is much, much more. It’s one of the most popular and diverse forms of art and is found anywhere you may travel. Altering moods, helping us, teaching us to have fun, or teaching us to hate, it expresses the very core of what makes us human. It is what unites us all, and that is why music is my favorite type of art. Picking my favorite work of art was no easy task and it took me a while to figure out which song was my favorite. Hands down it’s “It Was a Good Day” by Ice Cube (O’Shea Jackson). I chose this because it reminds me of those days where everything goes your way and there’s no stress, just straight up enjoying life. The song is about an unusually perfect day in South Central Los Angeles in the life of Ice cube. He talks about doing everything from shooting dice to drinking and playing dominoes. Towards the middle of the song he uses the line “plus nobody I know got killed in South Central LA, I gotta say it was a good day” showing how death was a normal occurrence in these neighborhoods and that its unusual when someone doesn’t die. He goes the whole day without having any trouble from the police or anyone else. In the end however, he was just dreaming the whole day and is brought from his fantasy back too the harsh realities of life as a poor minority. The ultimate message of this song is that though normally life isn’t going to be all that enjoyable, you’ll eventually be able to enjoy yourself. It was one of the greatest hits from the 90s and is still a considered a hip-hop classic.

My favorite work of art has to be the Godfather. it is a story that follows a man named Michael Corleone. It is my favorite work of art because it teaches you that no matter how good your intentions are things can go horribly wrong. The movie is about the Corleone family, at one point a man named Sollozzo, who is a narcotics dealer, comes and wants the family to work with him. Don Vito doesn't want to work with someone who deals in narcotics. Then Sollozzo gets the other families to attack Don Vito. Vito I sent to the hospital. In the begining Micheal doesn't want to join the family, but by the end he is running the family, it shows you that you can't run from who we are.

Even though reading is not my favorite thing to do, I still do it sometimes. My favorite work of art is the book Artemis Fowl written by Eoin Colfer. It is about a 13 year old criminal mastermind named Artemis Fowl. He extremely intelligent and uses his criminal mind to rebuild his family’s fortune when his father strangely disappears. He has a bodyguard named Butler who never leaves his side. In this book of the series, Artemis captures a fairy named Holly Short, captain of a fairy reconnaissance team, and holds her hostage until a ransom is paid in gold. The other fairies surround Artemis’s mansion in order to rescue Holly. They stop time outside of Artemis’s property to keep the fairy race a secret from the rest of the world. The fairies try everything they could to rescue Holly without paying the ransom. The use their much more advanced technology to raid his mansion but fail to Artemis’s bodyguard. However, in the end Artemis lets the fairy go and try his luck next time. This book was my favorite in the entire series because it had many twist and turns.

My favorite work of art would have to be "One Love" by none other than Bob Marley. At first when I tried to write this blog I was trying to think of something that would have a deep or hidden meaning. However the assignment is what my favorite work of art is and although this song has only one obvious meaning thats ok cause I absolutely love it! I have always been a bob marley fan, however this song has become my favorite in the past year. In music class last year at st.marks my teacher wanted to show us the power of music in the world, and what it can do. In order to get his point across he showed us a video af people from all over the world who were all playing one love. When all these musicians did there own version of this song i realized how many people really take this song to heart. It has a great and simple meaning that people talk abut all the time. Bob marley was one who truly longed for love between all people due to his childhood. He was born from a cocasian father and a african american mother. Because of this he was made fun of and bullied so I feel like he really does just want there to be love between all people. He wrote this song from his exspiriences in life and I think thats what makes the song so real and great.

I’d definitely have to say my favorite work of art would be a dance on the show “So You Think You Can Dance”, called “Fix You”. There are many reasons I would consider this my favorite work of art. This dance was choreographed by Travis Walls and has a lot of meaning in the choreography; it’s representing his mom’s struggle through life and how he is helping her through it. The song Travis used to create this piece was “Fix You” by Coldplay. The song goes along with the dance and the message very well, in the sense that he will always be there for his mom helping her along the way, trying to fix her. The dance and the message it had to offer were very touching, and I could really relate to it. I’ve been dancing for about 14 years now, so I can really connect with the dance, the dancers, and the choreography. This inspiring, meaningful dance would definitely have to be my favorite work of art.

Art can seem like such a vague term when compared to it's many different meanings. Music, literature, and even films carry the same artistic elements as a painting or sculpture. So when I was asked to pick my favorite work of art, it took quite a bit of thought. Eventually, I came to the decision my favorite would have the be the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. Just a year ago, if I had been askeed about Harry Potter my immediate response would be something along the lines of, "Those books are for geeks" or "Those movies are confusing". I found the idea of wizards quite juvenile. However, just this summer out of nothing but sheer boredom I picked up the first book and once I started, I couldn't stop. Once I finished the seventh and final book (after what seems like the rest of the world), everything from the movies that confused me before made sense. Although there are many complicated situations throughtout the books, all is made clear by the end. Without going into much detail, the storyline is mainly about a boy named Harry Potter who grows up ignorant to the fact he is a wizard. When Harry was just one, a wizard-gone-bad named Voldemort murdered both of his parents and tried to kill him also, but failed. He was sent to live with his aunt, uncle, and cousin, all three of which treat him horribly. However, when he turns eleven he is sent to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy where he befriends Hermione and Ron. The trio spends their school years trying to fight off Voldemort. The first book was published in 1997 and the seventh in 2007. Each book was eventually made into a movie. The seventh one is schedueled to be relesed in two parts. The first one in November 2010 and the second one in Juy 2011. I greatly look forward to seeing them, although I still find the general idea a bit geeky. However, I'm not ashamed to say I love Harry Potter.

“What a beautiful mess this is
It’s like we’re picking up trash in dresses”

This is the hook to one of my favorite songs called “A Beautiful Mess” which was composed and sang by Jason Mraz. At first, when learning the title of the song, people may wonder “How can a mess be beautiful?”, but, in this song, it is. The “mess” in the song refers to the girl that Mraz loves. She is refered to as a “mess” because of her faults and weaknesses. I believe that people are defined through their faults and weaknesses. It is what makes us human since no one is perfect. In the song, Mraz describes this girl through her faults and weaknesses, but it’s because of her faults and weaknesses that he loves her. In other words, he loves her for who she is. I think it’s really important to love people for who they are and not try to change them because you can’t. People can only change themselves and people shouldn’t have to change for anyone but themselves. This is such a great and meaningful song. My favorite performance of the song was when Jason Mraz performed it live at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in 2008 with an orchestra. The performance was amazing, especially since live is the best way to listen to this song because Jason Mraz is one of the few artists that sound better live than on a CD.
