Mud-Luscious Seniors?
Seeking relief from the warm and arid conditions of Thursday afternoon, some members of senior prayer group celebrated an ancient rite of spring by making their worlds puddle-wonderful, no doubt inspired by this e.e. cummings poem.
In Just spring (e. e. cummings 1894-1962)
in Just-
spring when the world is mud-
luscious the little
lame balloonman
whistles far and wee
and eddieandbill come
running from marbles and
piracies and it's
spring
when the world is puddle-wonderful
the queer
old balloonman whistles
far and wee
and bettyandisbel come dancing
from hop-scotch and jump-rope and
it's
spring
and
the
goat-footed
balloonMan whistles
far
and
wee

WOW! its good to see teachers see a little bit of good in this mud fun play. i know some were upset, but "carpe diem, lads", right? mr ike related this mud fest to a piece done by the spanish poet Lorca that we learned earlier this year; as did you with ee cummings. as least we can explain this behavior through a few things we've already learned this year. hooray for poetry, man.
