Sophs Journal #1: Your Favorite Work of Art--post before Wednesday, Sept. 7

What is your favorite work of art.
Please don't limit your definition of art, or your choice, to the "fine" arts, like painting. Please feel free to include the "pop" arts, like music, film, cartoons, or television.

You might want to use this post as a "warm up" or pre-writing to the final essay that is due Tuesday, September 13. However, you may choose to write about something else for the final essay, too.

Complete this blog/journal response before Wednesday September 7, so I can post all of your classmates' responses for you to read.

Remember, in responding to blogs, you should first write your response in a Word document, save it, and then copy and paste it as a comment at Schoolsville. Eventually, I will collect all of your "blog/journal" responses at the end of each marking period as a graded assignment.

Be more succinct here than you will be in your essay--write a MINIMUM of 200 words (your final essay should be 3-4 typed pages).

At Schoolsville, you probably want to respond to these questions:

1. What is your favorite work of art?

2. Give a brief description or overview of this work.

3. Why is this work your favorite? How does it make you "think" (appeal to your intellect) and/or "feel" (appeal to your emotions)? Briefly and specifically explain your answers.

To get an idea of how to respond properly to this blog, you may check out the archives for August 2014 and August 2015 and read some of the responses to this blog entry made by the Classes of 2017 and 2018.

The image that you're viewing is of Jamie Wyeth's Portrait of a Pig( often on display at the Brandywine River Museum in Chadds Ford, PA), one of my personal favorite "works of art." I'll tell you a little about my choice in class some day soon.

Ever since I started watching the classic sci-fi saga of Star Wars, I always loved the movies and how cool it was to see blades of different colored light flying around on a screen. My personal favorite episode out of the saga is definitely Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. The reason this movie is so great is because of the one huge plot twist towards the end of the movie (which baffled me because no one spoiled it for me since the movie had been out for almost twenty-six years before I saw it). It is when (spoiler alert) the aspiring Jedi, Luke Skywalker, encountered the infamous Darth Vader in Cloud City. Vader set up a trap for Luke to lure him onto the planet. Things didn't go as planned during the light saber dual and things took a turn. Vader cut off Luke's right hand, which was holding his light saber that fell down into a deep dark abyss beneath them. Luke then resorted to climbing over to a place that Vader couldn't physically get to because Vader's arms and one of his legs are robotic. Then, Vader started talking to him.
He said, "Obi-Wan never told about what happened to your father."
Luke responded, "He told me enough...He told me you killed him."
Vader then goes on to say, "I AM YOUR FATHER!"
I was absolutely shocked. At first I thought Vader was lying and used it to turn Luke to the dark side of the force, but it was true, and I've loved Star Wars ever since.

So let me just start off by saying that I'm a huge fan of country music. Every since I was a little kid I have enjoyed listening to these songs and singing along. One of my all time favorite country songs is one entitled "All Summer Long" from Kid Rock's album Rock n Roll Jesus. As the title suggests, it is an anthem of summer and of what its singer used to enjoy doing during the mentioned time of year, and it looks back fondly on these good memories. This song speaks to me because summer is my favorite time of the year and I always look forward to its arrival. The upbeat, catchy nature of this song can always put me in a good mood and never gets old no matter how many times I hear it. I can also relate to some of its lyrics, which mention and celebrate some of the many things that I like to do during summertime. Some of the activities mentioned are spending long nights sitting around a campfire with my family and friends, fishing, and listening to good music. Whenever I play guitar at a party or jam with other musicians, it is always a crowd favorite and gets everyone singing along and grooving to the beat. "All Summer Long" was also among the first songs that I ever learned how to play on the guitar, which makes it very special to me. "All Summer Long" holds a special place in my heart and will certainly be one of my favorites for many years to come.

I think that God's miracles are one of the best forms of art. Heaven is For Real, a movie that is based on a true story, accurately shows an example of God's miracles. In the movie, a young boy, named Colton, is faced with a life or death situation. After being rushed into surgery for being severely sick, Colton is able to visit Heaven and decide whether or not he wants to stay in Heaven. In Heaven, Colton sees things and people that people on Earth cannot. He describes what Heaven looks like and his parents are amazed at what he is telling them. He is also able to see his sister that was miscarried by his mother. I love this story because even though the media and church turn against Colton and his family, they still believe. Colton doesn't understand why they don't believe him since they are all Christian and believe in Heaven. He says some things that can't happen on Earth: people with wings and no darkness. My perception of Heaven has changed for the better because of this movie. Heaven is For Real gives me a sense of reassurance to believe more about Heaven. I think that people who watch this movie can learn from it and maybe believe more about God.

Art comes in many different forms. While appreciating the various styles of art, my favorite is dance. In, particular I enjoy watching ballets that have a fairytale, yet relatable plot, such as The Nutcracker. The ballet includes three of my favorite things: family, dance, and Christmas. The Nutcracker is a ballet based on a story called The Nutcracker and the Mouse King written by Alexander Dumas. The plot begins on a Christmas Eve night after a party. A little girl dreams about her toys, including the nutcracker given to her by her uncle, coming to life and defeating the Mouse King. She is visited by snow fairies, mice, clowns, flowers, and even the Sugar Plum Fairy. I remember seeing the ballet for the first time. My sister and I were very young, but I still recall being in awe of the beautiful colors and sparkly costumes. I remember the various styles in music and emotion behind each group that came on stage. The ballerinas are graceful and proper. Their tutus are boisterous. The mice are sneaky and quick. Their whiskers are long. The soilders are sharp and disciplined. Their helmets are in perfect position. Every character in the ballet is important in the fact that they help create drama to the plot of the story. This ballet will always be remembered as a warm experience for my family and me.

Art can be described in my ways, from books to movies to music. One piece of art that catches my attention is the sitcom That 70's Show. That 70's Show takes place in a fictional town in Wisconsin in the late 1970s. This show stars teenagers, Jackie Burkhart(Mila Kunis), Micheal Kelso(Ashton Kutcher), Donna Pinciotti(Laura Prepon), Steven Hyde(Danny Masterson), Wilmer Valderrama(Fez), and Eric Foreman(Topher Grace). That 70s Show covers many topics like sexism, economics hardships of families in the 1970s due to recession, friendship, relationships, and teenage drug use. Though this show is thought of as a sitcom they are very serious moments in the show that relate to the tough times of the 1970s. Each main character's family is different in ways that show the hardships of families in the 70s because of recession. This show also covers the topic of sexism by showing how the man is "higher above women" and how women have less rights than men. When I watch the show I feel like I'm in the 1970s experiencing what many families in the 1970s experienced. I would recommend this show to anyone especially someone who wants to have a taste of what it's like to live in the 1970s or anyone who likes shows about past times.

My favorite work of art is the movie Unbroken. This is my favorite because it is based on a true story and it shows how strong one person can be. Throughout the movie Louie, the main character, was in the Olympics for track, in the war, stuck in the ocean for around 40 days, and trapped and tortured at a Japanese prison camp. Louie never gives up on himself in any of these situations and he powers through it. Even after all he has been through he lived to his late 90s and had a lot of people looking up to him. That's is why Unbroken is my favorite work of art.

Art is the expression of human skill and imagination. My favorite work of art is the movie Chasing Mavericks. This movie is based on a true story about a young man who never gave up on wanting to surf a huge wave called mavericks. The young man, Jay, met an older man who has been surfing his whole life and trains Jay on how to surf and survive the mavericks. These two men grow close together and help each other bring out the better side of them. These two characters never give up, even though they face many hard obstacles. This movie proves that if you put your mind on something, you can accomplish it if you never give up. This film is very inspirational and can help many people be inspired by never giving up on their dreams. This movie is a great piece of art in my eyes.

There are many pieces of art that I enjoy very much, but the one that makes my eyes open wide every time I think about it is the movie "The Shallows". This movie makes you think differently about the world. The plot of the movie is about a girl who moved to an island where her mother grew up. She went there to enjoy her new home and to surf everyday. As the days went by she met new people and surfed as her hobby. But one day, her whole life changed in a blink of an eye. A shark attacked her, grabbed her by the leg and pulled her down into the ocean. Thankfully she found a small rock where she could be safe from the gigantic shark. As she was on the shark, she had to make many decisions that could of changed her whole life. As for me I absolutely loved this movie, it's not only a movie but a piece of art. The director, Jaume Collet-Serra, did a amazing job of setting the tone and mood of this suspenseful action movie. I thought a lot of what the main actor could do differently in her situation, but I also thought a lot about what I would do if that were me. The reason I chose "The Shallows" as my favorite piece of art is because of the decision making and the suspense in the film.

Artists create art because something in particular affects them and they want to share that same wave of emotion and feeling with others. The movie "Miracle" is my favorite work of art because of the great story it tells and the way it inspires people to believe in their dreams. The movie is about the journey of the United States of America's 1980 Olympic Ice Hockey team and how they shocked the world by beating the all-powerful Soviet Union and later winning the gold medal for their nation. The team of college student from rival universities is brought together by mastermind, Coach Herb Brooks. This film was dedicated to Brooks because of his incredible work and because he died in a car accident not long before the movie was released. There are many different reasons that this movie is holds a special place in my heart. I am an avid ice hockey player, so this movie makes me want to work as hard as those young men did on the ice. My dad shares the love for ice hockey that I do. He introduced me to the game that became such a huge part in my life. Him and I have seen this movie so many times that we can actually recite each part of the movie word for word. Each of the unique characters inspire me to be a better version of myself. All of those who helped complete this masterpiece did their job as great artists and did an awesome job of sharing the inspirational story with the world.

In our generation, there is many forms of art. Art can be a painting or something more complex than that. My favorite piece of art is the movie "The Blindside" staring Sandra Bullock and Quinton Aaron. "The Blindside" is based on a true story about a NFL player named Michael Oher. Michael didn't know his father and his mother was a drug addict. He was in and out of school and had a 0.6 GPA. Leigh Anne Tuohy, married to Sean Tuohy, brings in Michael as there own when she saw he had no place to stay. He creates a great bond with the family and they soon adopt him. Michael then joins the football team which is a life changing decision. His teammates and coaches notice his elite talent but his hardest battle is in the classroom. With is learning disability, he struggles to meet the requirements to play football but soon overcomes them. Michael Oher then attends Ole Miss and becomes an All-American at left tackle. Michael is so talented that he is drafted in the first round on the NFL draft by the Baltimore Ravens. Through all his fame and fortune, he never forgot the Tuohy family and the opportunity they gave him.

"Winter is Coming"
" A Lannister always pays his debts." This is the creed of House Lannister. The richest and possibly the most powerful house in all of Westeros. Its family members include, Lord Tywin Lannister. Who is the head of the house and the 'Hand of the King', the Kings personal assistant. Cersei Lannister, Wife of the King, daughter of Tywin, and mother of prince Joffery. Ser Jamie Lannister, commander of the kings guard, and son of Tywin. Finally, Lord Tyrion Lannister, younger brother of Jamie Lannister. In this essay I will show you just why "Game of Thrones" is my favorite book. The events in this book can be related to my life through the upcoming elections, my acceptance of new responsibilities, and family dynamics.

I believe " Game of Thrones" is a literary masterpeice and deserving of my place of my favorite work of art. The author George R.R. Martin is able to take modern day struggles and present them in a way that works in a setting that could be compared to our medieval times. The members of house Lannister struggle with internal and external conflicts that constantly causes the characters to evolve and grow mentally. House Lannister is a respected house that when tested by a rebellion from the throne and the capture of one of its family members, Must maintain its claim as a house to be feared.

Art—a broad term, briefly described as expression or application of creative human skill and imagination. From paintings to sculptures, novels to poems, and ballet to breakdancing, art has various forms. Although, music is one of the many branches of art which is unique in such a way that the different genres, melodies, and rhythms require hearing and not seeing, in contrast to the other forms of art. In that way, each musical artist stands out as well. Known typically by his stage name, Logic is a rap artist who writes music relevant to his life and his past experiences. He writes his music in such a way that others who have gone through something similar can relate. His song "Nikki" is one that stands out to me, because it is written in such a way that the literal meaning of the song is about a girl who was an addiction to him. He wrote this for people who are listening to the song, so they can relate to having such a strong attachment to someone (or something) that their whole world revolves around them. Although, the metaphorical standpoint is about a real event in his life--his nicotine addiction. He titled the song "Nikki" because it is the name of a girl but also a subtle way of indicating the drug nicotine. After listening to this song the first time, I took it in the literal meaning. Although, the second time I listened to it, I realized even in the first line of the song, 'I can feel you in my lungs, feel you in my veins/Bloodstream only way to make it to my brain" it sounds like he is mentioning how addicted he is to this girl Nikki, although literally he is hinting his drug addiction. I find this a true work of art because the way it is written is very carefully put together and I find it amazing how even though it is about a drug addiction, even I can relate to it and visualise a time in my life where I was this attached or drawn to someone/something.

Art has many different forms such as movies, paintings, plays, music, and many more. My favorite type of art is the movie Creed. This award winning drama stars Sylvester Stallone and Michael B. Jordan. Michael B. Jordan plays the character, Adonis, and Sylvester Stallone plays Rocky Balboa. Adonis never knew his father Apollo Creed, the boxing champion. He died before Adonis was born. However, Adonis is eager to fight, so he seeks out Rocky Balboa for training. Adonis is determined to be the best he can be, and to show his dad how outstanding he is. Rocky finds out he has cancer and needs chemotherapy training. After months of training and lots of small fights; Adonis wants more. Adonis wants to fight for the Heavy Weight Championship. Adonis and Rocky reach a compromise, Rocky continues to train Adonis for the upcoming fight, and Rocky will undergo chemotherapy. All over the news and the word around town is Adonis is a "fake Creed" and can't live up to his dad's potential. The night of the fight arrives, Adonis vs. Conlan. Adonis takes several hits and is always behind, but he never quits. Conlan ends up winning, but Conlan acknowledges Donnie's work with respect. As Adonis leaves the ring all the fans start chanting his name, and gain lots of respect for him. This is my favorite work of art because of how inspirational it is, and how it shows you never to give up!

Typically, when people think of what their favorite work of art is a movie probably isn't the first thing that pops into someone's mind. Similar to me, a painting or sculpture might come to mind instead. Movies are in fact an incredible work of art. It takes the actors, music, visuals, and sound effects to portray the story line. Personally I think that my favorite movie, The Blind Side, did all these things perfectly. The Blind side is a movie about a less fortunate teen boy growing up in the slums. Although I have many favorite movies, I chose the Blind Side to write about because it's one of the movies that really fills me with all types of emotions while I am watching. One minute I'm happy because something worked out for the main character, but then the next I'm angry because someone is trying to say that the people that helped him didn't do it to benefit him but they did it for themselves. Then when the protagonist does something nice for Michael I'm filled with a mix of positive emotions. Every time I watch The Blind Side I am reminded to be a better person, that I shouldn't just go through life blindly only looking out for myself, and that I am always given opportunities to help or even change another person's life.

Art has, and always will be, an interesting subject for me. I’m a firm believer in the idea of anything being art. Art brings about an emotion inside of you that is unique to you. My favorite work of art is Swiss Army Man, directed by Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. While this movie is weird, it's never uncomfortable in its own skin. It’s not afraid to deal with subjects ignored by media. In fact, one of the core themes is to be who you truly are. Furthermore, it has a strong message of understanding that it's okay if society doesn’t like who you are because you don’t fit into its cookie-cutter image. These messages are conveyed through a fart joke. While that seems absurd, it actually holds a lot of symbolism! The completely natural bodily process has been deemed too gross to do in public. That being said, I didn’t come out of this movie thinking everyone should fart in public. I do, however, think the fart is a perfect analogy on how society treats people differently even if they’re just being their natural self. One character, Hank, realizes the reason he’s so in denial and sad is because he was always trying to be someone else. Being someone you're not just leads to confusion and depression.

My favorite work of art is the 1995 game, Earthbound. Earthbound is the story of a boy with psychic powers named Ness, on a journey to defeat the evil alien Giygas. Along the way Ness meets some new friends, Paula, a psychic like Ness, but with more advanced abilities; Jeff, a quiet and creative child who uses his inventions to make up for his lack of psychic powers; and finally Poo, a young prince who focuses more on offense. During the journey you will travel to many different places ranging from small towns to massive cities. What I like most about this game is that every subsequent play-through is different, but you remember every character you encountered before. I like the simple and cartoony, yet detailed art style which goes well with the fact that the game is only serious at the times it needs to be. I like how, during the game you forget that this is a story about a boy leaving his home for the first time, to fight some great evil he knows nothing about. Earthbound is loved by millions of people around the world, including me, despite being released at a time where role playing games were not popular.

Art can be displayed in numerous ways. My favorite work of art is Falling waters, a house by Architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Ever since I was young I have been into architecture, which is why I like this work of art. Wright includes many objects from nature into his houses. The house is built with rock, stone and concrete slabs to give it a flat and rectangular appearance. What makes this house so special and where it gets it's name from is the waterfall that the house is built on. The sound of the stream and the waterfall makes for a great, peaceful sound. Falling water was a very interesting place when I visited it. The views from all of the levels were outstanding. The way that Wright incorporated rock into the house, for example, the fireplace and the stairs. The layout of the house was very open, which is another reason why I like it. The coolest part of the house was the hot tub. The hot tub was all made with rock and looked out over the waterfall. Falling water would be great to have as a vacation home. That is why Falling waters is my favorite work of art.

The word,"art", has a variety of definitions and perceptions to every different person. My favorite work of art is the movie "Rudy". The story behind this movie is truly astonishing. Rudy Ruettiger was a young man with just one dream: to play football for the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Rudy had applied to Notre Dame with the hope of receiving a letter of acceptance but unfortunately does not have the money nor the grades to qualify for a scholarship. He knew he had to work harder in school and on his 4th time applying to Notre Dame he received a letter of acceptance. Everyone always told him he was too small to join the football team but he never let that keep him from accomplishing his dream. Rudy hadn't played all season, his senior year. He had applied to Notre Dame with the dream of playing football and what he didn't know is his dream was about to come true. Rudy Ruettiger would be put in the final seconds of the Notre Dame final home game in 1975. On the final play of the game, Rudy sacks the quarterback and the crowd went insane. Rudy Ruettiger is the only person to this day to have been carried off the field by his teammates. Rudy inspires me to never give up on my dreams and if you ever fail in life never quit trying to achieve your dreams.

Many people may only think of art as something that takes place in a theatre or hangs on a museum wall, but I have a different view of art. I believe art can be presented in many different forms, such as: paintings, songs, sculptures, dancing, television, and movies. My favorite form of art is a movie. Movies animate a motion picture in which the actors and directors are able to stretch their minds to portray the scenes of their imagination. My favorite movie is Miracle, based on the true story of the 1980 United States Olympic hockey team. Not only is Miracle my favorite movie because I play hockey, but also because of the powerful message the movie sends. Although Miracle is based on a true story, many would think it is yet another Hollywood film with a happy ending. The first time I saw this movie as a child, chills went down my spine after noticing how the hockey team accomplished the impossible. To this day, the accomplishment of defeating the dominant Soviet hockey team amazes me and still gives me chills. The head coach of the team, Herb Brooks, displays immense amounts of courage and perseverance throughout the duration of the movie. Brooks pushes the team to their breaking point in order to compete with other countries while training for the Olympics in Lake Placid, New York. In the semifinal game, the United States finds themselves up against the dominant Soviets who had won the gold medal the last four Olympic Games. After not losing for almost seventy games, the Soviets are upset by the United States in a miraculous win with a final score of 4-3. The victory was not only important to hockey, but also to the United States to show that we were able to defeat the Soviets during the time of the Cold War. Through the corruption of the Cold War, the United States found something to celebrate about because of the Uniter States ice hockey team.

To people art may mean a lot of things, For me a true piece of fine art is the movie the "Titanic." This movie is a classic and has one the best actors of all time Leonardo Decaprio. The movies tell the story of two young adults, Rose who is a wealthy girl, and jack a poor man who won tickets to get on the ship. At the same time it tells the story of the ocean liner the Titanic and the tragic fait that comes to ship. The movie shows the liner as it sails away and begins its first and last voyage. The movie shows how jack and Rose are completely different but can fall in love with on another. Throughout the movie they sneak around and see each other and when the ship hits the ice berg Rose has to choose between jumping in the water with Jack or getting on a life boat and saving herself. Jack and Rose go into the water tiogether and to me this shows how strong the power of love is. That they would be willing to die for each other and be together no matter what. And in the end Jack ends up saving Roses' life but ends up dying himself. The movie has the iconic scene of Jack dead in the water and Rose on a piece of wood saying " I won't ever let go." Meaning she will hold on to his memory forever. The titanic is a masterful piece of art.

Art is, to put it simply, an expression of emotions. It is not confined to paintings or books or any other specific medium. One of my favorite works of art is the song "Tear in My Heart" by the band twenty one pilots. I chose this song because of its uses of metaphors to talk about the singer's relationship with an unnamed girl, specifically the emotions the singer feels due to the girl and the relationship. The lyrics use the same general idea in various phrases in order to better illustrate the multitude of feelings being with a loved one can raise in a person. The first two lines in the first verse, "Sometimes you gotta bleed to know/That you're alive and have a soul" use the idea that loving someone can cause great pain to state that love, both romantic and platonic, is what makes us human. The last two lines in the chorus, "Take me higher/Than I've ever been" describe the great feelings of joy which arise from feelings of love or being with a person or people that you love. The very last lines of the song are "She's a butcher with a smile/Cut me farther/Than I've ever been," and these last lines illustrate the pain that the singer feels after the unnamed woman breraks up with him.

Art comes in many forms, such as painting, music, and film. The definition of art is quite controversial and broad, for there is no one style. One of my personal favorite pieces of art is the film, "La Vita é Bella" directed by and starring Roberto Benigni. "La Vita é Bella", or "Life Is Beautiful" tells the story of a Jewish-Italian waiter named Guido Orefice living in Arezzo, Tuscany during the time of World War II. In the film, Guido falls in love with a young schoolteacher named Dora, who he refers to as his "principessa." Guido is a humorous and optimistic man, and so he sets up "coincidental" meetings with Dora all over town until she finally agrees to leave her fiancé and be with him. Later in the film, Guido and Dora are married and have a five year-old son named Giosué, who like his father, is a fun loving jokester. On Giosué's birthday, he and his Guido are taken from their home and sent to a concentration camp. Dora is not Jewish, but she insisted that she go with her family to the camp so that they would not be away from each other. She was willing to sacrifice her life to be with her family. At the concentration camp, the women and girls are separated from the men and boys. Confused by why his mother isn't with him, Guido tells Giosué that the situation is a game for his birthday, and that he must obey the guards so that they don't lose. Guido says that if they are good they will receive points, and that whoever gets the most points at the end will win a tank, which is Giosué's favorite toy. Guido wanted to protect his son from the danger of what was really going on as well as his innocence. After a while at the camp, Giosué's life is compromised, and so Guido sacrifices his own life out of pure love for his son so that he may see his mother again and go home. Shortly after Guido's death, the Americans come and liberate the prisoners. An American soldier offers Giosué a ride on a tank, which shows that Giosué won the "game" by surviving. Giosué is then returned to his mother, and the two embrace. It is important to note that Guido's one goal at the camp was to look out for his son. He was willing to go the extra mile by sacrificing himself for his so that his son may live a beautiful life.

A work of art means to me something that you brings you a good feeling or any emotion at all. Works of art cheer everyone up when they see their favorite work of art. My favorite work of art is a painting called "The Great Wave" by a Japanese artist named Katsushika Hokusai. "The Great Wave" painting gives people a confidence boost and tries to make the person looking at it feel like they can do anything no matter how big there problem is. This painting showed me that art can have emotions to them and that it can change your view on something you once thought as boring into something that is exciting. The painting displays many art features to it such as detail, color contrast, and emotion. With all of those art features the painting becomes more real and more relatable to a day in todays life instead of three hundred years ago. I chose I painting instead of a movie or song because I never thought about a favorite art piece that I love and then I remembered there was always once piece of art that stuck out at me that being "The Great Wave". I hope after others look at the painting they can get the same feeling that I do and look at and think wow like I did when I first saw it.

Art can be presented through: painting, singing, photography, movies, and television shows. My favorite work of art would be the television series called "The Flash." The TV show, "The Flash" is based on the DC comic book series. It is about Berry Allen (The Flash) who got struck by lightening and became the fastest man alive. He uses his power to fight against crime.
The computer-generated visual and sound effects have won numerous awards. The visual and sound effects make each scene seem believable. The storyline of each episode is written in a suspenseful manner that keeps the audience glued to the television. In addition to suspense, viewer's experience numerous emotional reactions.

When I first got this assignment, I had no idea what to do. I had never thought about what my favorite piece of art might be. I stalled and pretended to think about it. I never would have considered a movie series, like Star Wars, to be a piece of art because I always considered art to be paintings or music. After carefully thinking about what art is, I decided that Star Wars is my favorite piece of art. We have all heard about the movie series or seen it. Just last December, the world watched the latest movie in the series, The Force Awakens. Some people think it might just be the greatest movie series of all time. I think so too. I believe Star Wars is the greatest movie series of all time and that is why it is my favorite piece of art. There are three reasons why Star Wars is my favorite piece of art. One of the reasons is because it has good versus evil. There is always a light side and the light can never be completely gone, no matter how dark it is and no matter how small the light is. Another reason is there are always good guys willing to give up their lives to fight the bad guys and make a difference. They are always willing to help even if the odds are terribly against them. Lastly, the characters are very relatable. Almost all the characters in Star Wars are very similar to each of us in some way, and the characters all have reasons for their actions, just like us. These are a few of the reasons why Star Wars is my favorite piece of art. I find inspiration in the words of Yoda from The Empire Strikes Back, “Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try.” I believe Yoda is saying that to “do” is to commit yourself and your effort 100% toward a goal without giving up. If you “try,” you are not committing your efforts fully and you give yourself the option of giving up. I would rather “do” than “try.”

Art can be expressed in many different, yet unique ways. When I think of art, music comes first to mind. Various artists express their own ideas and feelings through their songs. There are many different genres including hard rock, gospel, pop, country, etc. I really enjoy music because I can listen to different genres depending on my mood. For example, if I am on the beach and relaxing, I would listen to country music, specifically Florida Georgia Line and Cole Swindell. On the other hand, if I was getting ready to play a basketball game, I would listen to more of an upbeat tempo, such as rap. Aside from whatever mood I am in, my favorite song is "Humble and Kind" by Tim McGraw. The underlying meaning of this song is that throughout life, we go through many difficult obstacles; however, in the end we must always stay true to ourselves. The lyrics, "Hold the door, say please, say thank you. Don't steal, don't cheat, and don't lie" remind me of the way that my parents raised me. Whenever I need a little bit of inspiration, I always listen to this song. This song touches me in a way that no other song does. I really enjoy the way that this song spreads a positive message to everyone in today's society. If everyone were to take the time to listen, learn, and act upon these lyrics, the world would be a much happier and kinder place.

"It's the eye of the tiger it's the thrill of the fight rising up to the challenge of our rival" those lyrics are probably the most memorable lines from one of my favorite songs eye of the tiger. This is my favorite artwork because the way I view art is something u look at or listen to to feel and to make you think. Nothing makes me feel more than this song because the rocky franchise is one of my film series ever and they play it at every eagles game so I have a lot of good memories with the song. Another reason why I like this song so much is whenever I'm having a lazy day. And I need to get up and do important things this song helps me to achieve them. This song also talks about stepping to a challenge and facing your fears even if you don't want to. This song talks about someone who has lost what he had and how his past is where he got to today but he needs to keep fighting to keep the eye of the tiger and that is why it is my favorite art piece

Art is one of the most influential things in everyone's lives. Books, TV shows, or even movies; they all can teach you a lesson. My favorite work of art is the movie Miracle starring Kurt Russell. It's a movie based on the true story of the 1980 USA Olympic hockey team. The character of coach Herb Brooks, played by Kurt Russel, is one of the most well played characters in a movie ever. Although he is the new coach and has a different idea for team USA than the other coaches, his mindset and commitment to the team shows how well of a leader and role model he is throughout the story. His outgoing and leading mindset starts to show itself when he knew the full roster after only a day or two of tryouts when the rest of the coaching staff had planned on have a whole week of tryouts. One of my favorite quotes of the movie was "Great moments are born from great opportunities." The movie was dedicated to Brooks for his amazing work as a coach and the incredible story he created as he coached the USA to a gold medal beating the power house of the Soviet Union in the semifinals. This movie is special because of the way it unfolds and shows a bond a team can create and how far it can get them.

My favorite work of art is the movie, Remember the Titans. Remember the Titans is based on a true story about a school in Alexandria, Virginia that combined the white and black communities together. This movie shows the struggle for white and black communities to bond and accept each other. At the beginning of the movie the white players do not like having a black coach and black teammates. During the team camp at Gettysburg the coach gives a speech, in front of a graveyard, about the team coming together. The coach says, "Fifty thousand men died right here on this field, fighting the same fight that we’re still fighting amongst ourselves today." He's talking about the racial tension that exists because people do not accept all people for who they are. The coach also says at the end of the speech, "I don’t care if you don’t like each other, but you will respect each other. I don’t know, maybe we’ll learn to play this game like men." He says this to the players and hopes they understand the message to respect people for who they are and don't judge them. The coach's goal is to bring the Titans together to be one strong team with both white and black players. The Titans bond together by the beginning of the season and go on to a perfect season and win the Virginia state championship. Remember the Titans provides a message, that is valid across time, to respect each other and not judge people for who they are or where they come from. The success the team finds both on and off the field while they experience the power of respecting each other is why Remember the Titans is one of my favorite works of art.

A work of art is not always just a painting. For example, my favorite work of art is the movie When the Game Stands Tall. The movie is about De La Salle High School of Concord, California's football team. They went on a 151 game win streak, winning 12 straight state championships. With the 2004-2005 season coming up, last years Juniors are looking to keep the win streak alive as Seniors. When they lose the first game of the season they do not know how to deal with it. Coach Bob Ladoucer has to get the team together and teach them that it's not all about winning, but coming together as a team. They get a win against one of the top teams in California, Long Beach Poly, which gets their season back on track. I chose this movie as my favorite work of art because it shows that there is more to the sport of football than just winning. Football brings people together and makes them have to rely on one another if they want to be successful. The relationship between the coaches and the players on De La Salle also helps the team achieve their goals.

There are many different forms of art in the world today, and each person has their own preferences. I am interested in a wide variety of art, but my favorite is the television series Lost. The show, created by J.J. Abrams, Damon Lindelof, and Jeffery Lieber, first premiered on the channel ABC in 2004. The show begins when a plane from Sydney, Australia, crashes on a mysterious island when it was supposed to land in Los Angeles, California. There are over forty survivors, but the show follows a small, main group of people, including Jack Shepherd, Kate Austen, James "Sawyer" Ford, Sayid Jarrah, and a few more. As the survivors attempt to explore the island, they discover a monster in the jungle, and they learn that there were people on this island before them, whom the survivors call "The Others." As time passes, some lives are lost, and the remaining survivors learn more about the origin of the island and its history. Some of the characters even get off the island when a boat nears the island, but some choose to stay because they have nothing back home. The people who remained on the island do some bizarre things, such as traveling through time on the island. The characters who left the island eventually return a couple years later because the island "called" to them. I really enjoyed this series because as the episodes show what currently happens to the characters, it also shows flashbacks of each main character so the audience can learn about them. This show can help me relate to the characters, and assist me in problems I face in my own life.

When you hear the word "art" you probably think of classical music, paintings or sculptures in old museums, but art can be many different things. Art can be music videos, books, or movies, tv shows or even your favorite song. One of my favorite movies is Titanic (1997) with Kate Winslet (Rose DeWitt Butaker) and Leonardo DiCaprio (Jack Dawson). This movie is filled with action, drama, and of course, romance. I love watching it because of the story and how it's told. The feeling is very nostalgic but still real. 84 years after the ship sank, Rose tells the story of the Titanic to her granddaughter. One of the most intriguing things about the movie is how two people from so different lives fall in love so quickly and unexpectedly. My favorite quote from the film is from Jack and he says, "... I figure life's a gift and I don't intend on wasting it. You don't know what hand you're gonna get dealt next. You learn to take life as it comes at you... to make each day count." I also love the character of Jack because he took a risk and he doesn't care if he's not like everyone else. I like watching him tell and show Rose what life is like for him and how she shares hers with Jack too. The quote really represents what the whole story is about because you never know what life could throw at you. The Titanic was called the "Unsinkable Ship", yet it sunk after one bump into an iceberg. It's crazy how one horrible disaster can turn into one of the most famous films or "work of art" in the past 21st century.

When defined, art is "something that is created with imagination and skill, or that expresses important ideas and feelings." Most people assume art is just another name for paintings or sculptures, but to me, my favorite type of art is music. Even though I'm not instrumentally or vocally talented, it fascinates me that there's a genre of music that fits anyone's music taste. Personally, my taste in music changes all the time; mostly depending on my mood, what type of day it is, what I'm doing, and lots more. For example, when I'm at the gym I love to listen to fast, upbeat music, but on a nice beach day, country is all that I'll play. Today, I'm really loving the song 'Setting the World on Fire' by Kenny Chesney and P!nk, but ask me in a week and I promise you it will be different!

The movie "Stand by Me", written by Stephen King, is one of my favorite works of arts because it reminds me to savor my childhood while I still have it. This movie tells the story of four Oregon boy's; Teddy Duchamp, Gordy Lachance, Vern Tessio, and Chris Chambers; adventure to find a dead body that Vern overheard some older boys talking about. Throughout the movie these childhood friends proceed to tease each other, get into mischief, and act obnoxiously. Above all though, these companions have each other's back no matter what. Gordy and Chris stand out in the group as the two closest friends. Gordy is a talented writer who seems to have a bright future, but Chris on the other hand has had a rough upbringing. As the boys get deeper and deeper into their adventure Gordy and Chris open up more to each other while supporting each other's dreams. Vern is constantly teased for being a little goofy and over-weight the whole movie, but he is still loved dearly by his friends. This is proven when Gordy saves him from the oncoming train while they are crossing the bridge. Teddy Duchamp is the most obnoxious off the group and adds comedic relief throughout the movie. This movie really appeals to me because it represents the adventures and trouble I have gotten in with my best friends in my childhood. Whenever I watch this film it leaves me in a good mood.

Art is expression of something that is pleasing to the viewer. To me, that art is the movie Race. Race is a movie about an athlete, Jesse Owens, who attends and competes in track and field at Ohio State University. While competing, he begins to gain some attention for for beating several records and is then chosen to compete in the 1936 Olympic Games. The conflict of the situation was that the Olympic Games were being held in Nazi Germany and Jesse was African American. He was asked to boycott by many people. Despite their words, Jesse went on to win gold medals in four events. I find this movie special to me because of two reasons. First, I love the idea that Jesse was able to stand up against the evil Nazi Germany, in a situation that surrounded a lot of controversy. By proving that he was the fastest man alive he was able to destroy Germany's idea of a perfect race. Next, I believe this movie is so great to me is because I do track and field and I love competing in it. Track and field to me is a great sport which is why this movie was so special to me.

The movie Chasing Mavericks by Curtis Hanson is my favorite work of art. This movie is based on a true story about a boy who wants to surf big waves. Jay is the main character of the movie and the film shows us how he became the surfer that he was and how hard he had to work to achieve his goal of surfing big waves. Jay works from being able to hold his breath for thirty seconds all the way up to four minutes. Also Jay had to be able to tread water for forty-five minutes only using his legs. Jay worked his way through all of the pain to complete his newly found goal of surfing huge waves. I chose this movie because Jay is really inspirational. Jay inspires me because he knew nothing about surfing, yet works very hard to become one of the most known big wave surfers. Jay truly shows how if you work hard anything is possible. Jay is the reason Chasing Mavericks is my favorite work of art.

Fashion is my favorite art form. By fashion, I am referring to any form of women's clothing and accompanying accessories. Why is women's fashion important to me? It is a vehicle for expressing my inner self to those around me. My sense of style allows me to portray my mood, my level of confidence and to make statements about who I am and how I wish to be viewed within the world around me. Despite what others may think, I perceive fashion as true art form. Fashion design is like fine art painting. To me, the human body is my blank canvas. Clothing and accessories are my paints. My paint brush is my unique personal creativity, that allows me to dress my blank canvas in varying styles. While many teenage girls my age are fashion trend junkies, I am not that girl. Yes, I will be the first to admit that I do enjoy the genius of a pair of Louboutin shoes or an Hermes bag, but a fashion snob, I also am not. I prefer mix-media or in the fashion world, I enjoying combining different fashion styles within each outfit that I create. I am much more interested in how the fabric textiles, patterns and colors all interrelate. It is not unusual for me to put together an outfit containing clothing and accessories purchased from a diverse variety of clothing stores. I have no problems pairing a pair of 1970's blue jeans bought at a local vintage store in downtown Newark, Delaware with a Sacks off Fifth cashmere sweater and adding a touch of costume jewelry from Francesca's. To me it's all about creating an outfit that is cohesive, has interest to the eye and most importantly that makes me feel beautiful wearing it. So to those of you who feel the strong urge to rush out to purchase your Fall 2016 velvet statement chokers and your David Bowie, Spice Girl chunky sole boots, I say to you, STOP and take a moment to channel your inner fashionista. And always remember what the famous Italian designer Gianni Versace once said, "Don't make fashion own you, you decide what you are and what you want to express."

Maybe it's the time of year, Fall is just around the corner, Halloween is a little more than a month away, but it always reminds me of my favorite work of Art, Edgar Allen Poe's short story, "The Tell-Tale Heart". The first time I read "The Tell-Tale Heart" was in my 6th grade English class. We were doing a lesson on Poe and we had to read different types of his writing, like short stories and poems. I was drawn to Poe's short stories because his descriptive words and story telling paints vivid images in my head. While I do not empathize with the main character, Poe carefully molds him out of numerous human flaws, creating a unique work of Art. As readers, we are curious to see what this character will do next. He sees and hears things others can't. He talks to himself, admitting to a disease, but crediting the disease for "sharpening" his senses, when we know his mind is anything but sharp. We can feel his anxiety, paranoia and panic. Our own curiosity drives us, almost uncontrollably, to follow this character down a most unnatural path of murder. We are there with him, watching as his mind unravels, seeing the process of him breaking down and losing control

My definition of art is that it is an expression and can be used as a reference for people, culture, and time. My favorite work of art would have to be the movie "Field of Dreams". It is the story of an Iowa farmer, Ray, who gets a vision of a baseball field in his cornfield and hears the words "If you build it he will come". Ray builds the baseball diamond in his cornfield, destroying most of his crops and almost making him bankrupt, and soon Shoeless Joe Jackson appears with seven other White Sox players banned from baseball after a scandal. However the voices continue and Ray soon finds himself following the clues across the country, finding baseball writer Terrence Mann and Moonlight Graham who only ever had one at bat. At the end of the movie Ray finds out the true meaning behind the field, that it is a place to give people a second chance as well as the meaning of the phrase "If you build it he will come". It was about his father who Ray never had a good relationship with. Rays father turns out to be the catcher and the film ends with Ray introducing his dad to his family and having a catch with his dad. This is my favorite work of art because it shows that dreams come true and you must sacrifice to help others and then will your reward be great in heaven.

My most favorite work of art is a film based off a true story. Lone Survivor, a film based off the heroic actions of four Navy SEALs in a life threatening battle. Marcus Luttrell, played by the phenomenal Mark Wahlberg, and three other Navy SEALS (Michael Murphy, Danny Dietz, and Matt Axelson) embark on an undercover mission in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. The purpose of the mission is to take out Taliban leader, Ahmad Shah. The team is soon faced with adversity and forced to overcome harsh situations. One of the most important themes of this film is teamwork. This team of brothers must come together to survive the ambush from Taliban fighters. The brotherly love shown between the soldiers was exemplified when Luttrell carried the injured Dietz until he was fatally shot. The SEALs exhibited their bravery and selflessness when the team was surrounded by the Taliban. Murphy decided to put his life on the line to send their signal to basecamp. He climbed up to the top of the cliff where he got the signal off but was gunned down by the fighters. Basecamp sent two helicopters to save the men but one of the pair was shot down resulting in Axelson's death. Luttrell, alone in the hills of Afghanistan, wandered his way into a village where he is kept safe by an elder man. The Taliban entered the town looking for the American but were warned away by the townsfolk and American forces. Marcus Luttrell was rescued by his fellow soldiers and is still alive to this day. Throughout the story, the fight for survival was portrayed though these brave men. This film is important to me because it possesses the qualities: leadership, teamwork, bravery, selflessness, brotherly love and many more.

I have always enjoyed reading. When I was in seventh grade a series called 'Legend'(italics aren't working) was recommended to me. I was skeptical at first but with in reading the first chapter I was hooked. I dislike most art, or rather I'm not interested in it, however books are a kind of art I love. And the 'Legend' series is top on my list of must reads. This amazing series consists of three estounding page-turners. The story focuses on two main characters in a future America that has been destroyed by our politics, flooding, and war. The first character is the most wanted crimminal in the world and according to the country's tests a failure. The second character is the country prodigy, because she is supposedly the first person to get a perfect score on the trials. The first book follows the prodigy, June, and the crimminal Day, fighting. June blames Day for her brother's death and vows to kill him. I could tell you the entire story but I think these two quotes from June, the first from the first few chapters of 'Legend', and the second from the very end of 'Champion'(the last book in the series), show you just how these two total opposites change. the first quote is from right after June's brother dies, "I will hunt you down. I will scour the streets of Los Angeles for you. Search every street in the Republic if I have to. I will trick you and deceive you, lie, cheat and steal to find you, tempt you out of your hiding place, and chase you until you have nowhere else to run. I make you this promise: your life is mine," - 'Legend' Marie Lu. this quote and the next quote I will share are the reason I love this series so much. It's clear from June's words that she will have revenge for her brothers death. The second quote is after something happens that I will not tell you about because I don't want to spoil the book. "My heart sinks, turns grey. I understand now. I know that something has answered my prayer, and at the same time has also told me what my sacrifice must be," 'Champion' Marie Lu. So clearly from these two excerpts it's obvious something big went down, and oh was it interesting. However this is about why I love this series not about what happens. But for my have the join in reading is in sharing the great adventures with others. So, for any of you that aren't lazy I challenge you to read the 'Legend' series and understand why I love it so much.

There are many things that come to mind when thinking of art. Some may think of paintings, architecture, live theatre, music, and books. All of these play some part in my life, but out of all of them live theatre plays the biggest role. Live theatre has only recently entered my life, but through portraying a character on stage I have realized the art of live acting. I chose the musical "The Last Five Years" because in my eyes it truly is a work of art. "The Last Five Years" is about an aspiring young writer, Jamie, who doesn't seem to be going anywhere in life, but then runs into and falls in love with a struggling young actress, Cathy, that turns his life upside down. Later on in life, Jamie finds his own success in an unexpected way which cause him to become more distant from Cathy. This causes there marriage to take a turn for the worse. This musical is so diverse in the way that the story line is depicted that it has the audience on an emotional roller coaster throughout it all. The way the actors portrayed there characters is unique to there character's individual views and that is what live theatre is all about.

ROCKY
A work of art can mean many different things, to many different people. A work of art means, to me, anything someone puts their mind too, and tries their best. That's why I chose the movie Rocky as my work of art. Rocky is a move about a man, who was a small town boxer, and works his way up to become champion of the heavy weight boxing title. The movie shows that hard work and determination can get you a long way, Rocky Balboa, the main character, has to fight the reigning champion Apollo Creed to gain the title of the worlds heavy weight boxing champion. Rocky Balboa trains day by day, he trains as hard as he can to get to the shape he was in for fighting, showing to never give up on anything. The day of the fight came and it was an intense fight, Rocky and Apollo we the distance, 15 rounds. Neither one was knocked out so the judges had to decide, Apollo won two votes to one. Rocky still didn't give up, he trained to fight Apollo again in Rocky II. This movie shows to never give up on your dreams, to keep going no matter what. No matter how hard the task is, never give up. Strive till you complete the task, do the best you can at anything and everything.

Art can be displayed in numerous ways. It can be presented through: movies, pictures, music, dancing, books, and so on. To me, art makes you feel something in your heart and express emotion. Wether it be a captivated feeling, a distressed feeling, an excited feeling, or even an anxious feeling. However, my personal favorite work of art is the major motion picture 42. The movie discusses real life events that occurred in the 1940s. "Im not goin' anywhere! I'm right here!" This movie a true story based upon a young African American baseball player named Jackie Robinson. Robinson gets drafted onto a Major League Baseball team named The Las Angeles Dodgers and is the first black man to be on a team. He is bombarded with hate by white players in the MLB, and even the men on his own team do not accept him. Just because of his skin color, he is treated horribly and looked at differently by everyone else. He is an amazing baseball player but society does not see him as this because he does not fit as the perfect model. It shows the struggles of this mans life and what he went through to be treated equally. He, who many may describe as a hero, has to overcome the challenging and painful obstacles that he is faced with. Throughout the movie, I developed an emotional tie and felt as if I was on the journey with him. This is the sheer beauty of art, it makes you feel as though you are in the moment.

Art can come in all shapes and sizes, whether it be a huge multi million dollar painting in a museum or a tiny picture by a kindergartener. Now my favorite depiction of art is the movie called Remember the Titans. This movie is my favorite piece of art because of a few things, for example it's reality was so amazing to me. Another reason for the movie being my favorite piece of art is because it shows the struggles of a community that is predominantly a certain race to mix with another race and trying to come together as one big society. I also love how the movies soundtrack goes along with the actions that are being betrayed in the movie. A couple of these examples is when the team is celebrating in the locker room or on the football field, the songs they picked/made are just astonishing. For the last reason that I chose Remember the Titans for my favorite work of art is because of the way the movie makes the community look at the end of the movie look like the team did, one organized team.

Art can be expressed in a multitude of forms and has a special meaning to each individual. Personally, my favorite work of art is the song "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen. This is no ordinary rock song, but rather a theatrical performance that encompasses many different moods. In the beginning of the song, lead singer Freddie Mercury shows how depressed he feels, describing his physical and mental issues after he "killed a man." He sounds almost suicidal until the tempo of the music speeds up and a feeling of madness sets in. Fast paced piano music starts and a theatrical element emerges. The sad and slow part of the song disappears and turns into a presto rock opera. Freddie Mercury sings, "I'm just a poor boy, nobody loves me," suggesting he has been struggling with his internal thoughts. Eventually, the masterpiece slows down and the lead singer learns to deal with his problems instead of making any drastic decisions. This song is my favorite work of art because it is beautiful and has so much meaning behind it. No matter how difficult life gets, or "any way the wind blows," the message is to try dealing with whatever challenges life throws our way.

Art can be used to convey a person’s thoughts and can consist of many different forms. One of my favorite pieces of art is the book, Night, by Elie Wiesel. This fascinating true story describes Elie’s experience during the Holocaust and how these horrific events effect his faith in God. Elie was very religious and did not doubt the will of God before he saw the cruelty of the Schutzstaffel officers and the force they imposed to control the Jewish people. Elie was only fifteen years old when he was removed from his home and sent to the concentration camp in Birkenau with his family. During his time there Elie began questioning God when he saw innocent babies being burned alive. The Schutzstaffel officers continued their abuse by forcing the Jews to work all day with very little food and unfit sleeping conditions. These events caused Elie to become angry with God and made him question his beliefs. However, when the war finally ended his faith in a merciful God was restored. This book was appealing to me because Elie was my age when he was sent to the concentration camp. I can imagine how difficult this time must have been for him as he struggled to find food and stay warm in freezing temperatures. I am intrigued by his spiritual journey that led him from despair to having faith in God again. I admire how Elie focused on his faith and had compassion for other people during a time when his own life was at risk. This reminds me that my own life is a gift that should not be taken for granted.

My favorite piece of art is Remember the Titans. As i was reading the blog posts yesterday I realized how great the movie is. The movie is about a high school football team that started to let African Americans on their football team due to the change of their head coach (Coach Boone) who is African American. At first the white teenagers on the team did not want to be on the same team as the black teenagers. But after going on a pre season trip together to train they realize that there all the same even if they look different. Many of the other teams refuse to play the Titans and some refs even call unfair plays. Towards the end of the season Gerry Bertier one of the top players and main characters in the movie gets hit by a truck in an auto mobile accident and is paralyzed from the waist. The team then dedicates the rest of their season to him and go on to win the championship. Gerry then went to the paralympics and won a gold medal in shotput. Sadly Gerry was killed in another automobile accident after that. I think the movie shows that in any circumstance any race can join together and stand together.

Blog Post: Everyone explains art a little different, but to me, my favorite kind of art is music. Music speaks in a way that other things are unable to, and it tells a story. It puts emotion into what is being portrayed. For my piece of art I chose a song written by Shawn Mendes titled "A Little Too Much." It talks about struggling in life, but getting back up and it getting better. It captures the way that many people feel at many points in their lives. Shawn tells the story of a girl in a tough situation where she feels really low and she feels like she cant get through it, but he explains that you will get through it. I picked this song because I think that everyone has moments in their life when they feel like it is all just too much and it will never get better, but this song shows that it will. This song means something to me and I have heard it live on stage twice, and both times I found myself tearing up or crying. I hope that other people can also relate to this song and I hope that it can help them get through tough times too.

One of my favorite forms of art is "The Great Gatsby". The reason why I chose this book is because I loved how intriguing Jay Gatsby's character was. He had so much mystery behind his life story, and only few people only knew the truth about him. Gatsby would throw wild house parties, but never make a known appearance at that. Also Gatsby was a very rich man, but nobody seemed to know where the money came from.

"Winter is Coming"
" Winter is coming." This is the creed of House Stark. The oldest and possibly the most powerful house in George R.R. Martins "Game of Thrones". This series is one that I will never tire of reading. The story is one of the Stark family, who when discover a secret being kept by the queen herself, are then torn apart. Over the corse of the books, each member of the house is trying to find each other in the middle of a kingdom on the brink of war..

The members of house Stark struggle with internal and external conflicts that constantly causes the characters to evolve and grow . House Stark is a respected house that when tested by a rebellion from the throne and the separation of its family members, must struggle to live on.

Let me start by saying that I am not the biggest fan of art. I don't favorite picture nor do I have a favorite artist. I have never had compelling interest in the basic forms of art but what has stuck out to me in my life is that tattoos have been something of my interest. My great aunt has had Brest cancer and after she beat it she got a angle and the date she got diagnosed with the cancer over where her heart is . So now all the woman in my family that has had it and defeated it gets that tattoo as a sign of Remembrance from what they have come from. People get tattoos for many reason some is a sign of art or that art stands for something. Some use tattoos as a way to express them selfs. Some think of tattoos as a way to mark their body in a way that would make them selfs unique. I think of it as a way to represent or remember a time or action or a thing that has happened in your life and that you want to remember or express in a creative way on your body

There are many types of art in this world and its hard to choose just one. When I think of my absolute favorite piece of art the 2010 tv series Lost comes to mind. The show is about a plane that crashes on an island, but the splits and separates the passengers of the plane from their loved ones. The separated passengers must find their way back to each other and reunite with their loved ones in order to help make a signal for help. The passengers soon realize that their not alone on the island and struggle to survive against the other society on the island. Early in the show the passengers learn that the island has strange and magnificent powers that can cure diseases and injuries faster than usual. The islands powers cured a man who was paralyzed from the waste down so that he can walk again. The longer they stay on the island the weirder things get with a strange monster terrorizing the other community on the island. The show can get pretty confusing and strange, but that's what I love about it. The show challenges your mind to really pay attention and look for details in the show that you wouldn't have to look for in other shows. At the end of the show it shows the survivors getting off the island and going on with their lives even though the memory the island left with them will last forever. This show reminds me to never give up and that I can persevere through any challenge and that I will come away from that challenge a better person.

Interstellar is a science fiction masterpiece directed by Christopher Nolan. Earth's future hangs in the balance as a crumbling agricultural population is falling. Crop farmer Joseph Cooper, played by Matthew McConaughey, and former NASA pilot sees that his daughter Murphy is re-occuringly being scared out of her room by books falling off the shelf. Cooper finally realizes that there is a pattern of books falling off the shelf. He interprets it into coordinates and follows them to a secret NASA base where he finds his former professor Dr. Brand.

Dr. Brand tells Coop that 48 years earlier a wormhole opened next to Saturn and made a pathway to another universe. He revels he needs Cooper to pilot the NASA shuttle Endurance. Cooper leaves everything behind including his job, family, and most importantly his daughter promising her he will come back. Cooper and his team consist of Romilly, Doyle, Dr. Brand's daughter, and robots TARS and CASE. They travel across the galaxy through the wormhole where they get to Miller's planet, which is completely dilated by time on Earth. Every hour on the plant is 7 years back on Earth. A giant tidal wave starts moving towards them as Amelia finds Miller dead but can receive his data. The tidal wave hits killing Doyle and water logging the engines. They come back to the Endurance finding that they have been on the planet far too long as 23 years have passed on Earth.

Art has always been a subjective topic. To some the highest form is found in dance and music, and to others in movies and tv. To me, one of the best pieces of art that exists is found in The Shawshank Redemption. The Shawshank Redemption follows the story of a man, Andy Dufresne who is questionably convicted for the supposed murder of his wife and her lover. Andy is sentenced to life in prison and is sent to Shawshank Prison. Through the day to day life of a man in prison, and the unexpected comraderie of the supposed convicts in the prison, you become very attached to Andy Dufresne quickly. Overtime however, you lose and gain respect for, and become more joyous and more terrified for Andy, as he changes drastically from a convicted felon who doesn't belong, to an accountant of the warden, to eventually an escapee of the most strict prison in North America. Both emotionally and politically as Andy's situation changes so does the life of the viewer and their emotional experience. In the end isn't that the most important part of art, the emotions that a work makes people feel and the sympathy you can form with the story? This is best shown, in my opinion in the art that is, The Shawshank Redemption.

My favorite work of art has to be the movie, The Basketball Diaries. This movie is actually adapted from a memoir written by Jim Carroll. In the memoir Jim Carroll writes about his teenage drug addiction and how he got into drugs in the first place. This is my favorite art because I like how realistic it is. I liked the emotions that every character expressed throughout the movie. All the events that took place actually happened even if there was some ups and downs. This movie really reaches out to a more juvenile audience and teaches them lessons and I think that's why the movie The Basketball Diaries is my favorite movie.

Art comes in so many different forms. One form of art that is precious to me is the form of music. I enjoy so many different genres of music. But my number one favorite genre of music is country. I'm one of the few students who enjoy listening to country music such as one of my favorite songs, Humble and Kind by Tim McGraw.
The reason this song is one of my favorite pieces of art is because the words are so inspirational and I've listened to Tim McGraw with my mother ever since I was very young. I remember my mother blasting the loud country music in the car and at home. She is the one that got me into country. Humble and Kind has so many inspirational phrases in the song such as "won't be wasted time" and "don't hold a grudge or a chip." These are my two favorite phrases in this song. The words explain in this song that you shouldn't just drift through life. You should do something productive with your time and always care for others. Never be unmannerly or ignorant. Always forgive and try to be the best person you can be no matter who tries to stop you. Your time is precious and do not waste it.
The words have so much meaning and feeling to them I just feel like the music is running through me. Music is art that just takes me away from reality. When I'm singing it to myself, doing my work, laying in bed, or just walking to a destination. Music has a special power that sometimes I just can't explain. This song and the whole country genre in general has proven that art isn't just some painting on the wall. Art is expressing feeling in something whether it be a song, an act, a poem, or even just the simplest of drawings.

I have grown up in a house with different types of art such as photography, paintings and music. It's challenging to pick a favorite piece for this assignment because I have so many to pick from. I chose a song for my favorite piece of art, Lose Yourself by Eminem. "Lose Yourself", is a song by written and preformed by rapper Eminem from the soundtrack of the 2002 motion picture 8 Mile. It is my favorite not because of the lyrics but the underlying message of that you have one shot and you should put all of your energy into whatever you do. I competitively row, a big part of my training is spent on an erg or rowing machine. The very nature of erging is physically demanding while also being mentally draining. The lyrics speak to that mental and physical game both during training and while competing. The motivational feeling of the song helps distract from how tired your body gets and motivates you to keep going. The song serves as mental makes me feel like I can accomplish my goals and that no matter how tired I am, I can keep going. Anyone that plays a sport knows the feeling.

Most people see the word art and immediately think of a museum, but art is so much more than just a picture on a wall or a statue in a museum. To me, art is how someone expresses themselves whether it's as a movie, book or a picture on a wall. My favorite form of art are films and one film in particular is Me Before You. Me Before You is a British film that focuses on a young man who has a great life until he gets hit by a motorcycle and becomes a paraplegic. From then on he becomes depressed because his girlfriend leaves him and he can't do anything on his own, so he needs a hired worker to help him with everyday things. A young women who is in need of a job gets hired and after a few months he becomes happy again and full of life. Then they fall in love and go places together, but he decides to have himself mercy killed and she supports him through it all. I love this movie so much because if I was in this position I would want someone to help me through it and not judge me and leave me because of what I can't do. I also love this movie because there are many people in the world who would just have given up on this man and only a few who wouldn't and those few needed to be recognized for the good that they do.
