Creative Writing Journal # 1: Cheesy Movie Dialogue

This is your first blog for the second semester.Complete before Thursday's (2-19) class:

I'll proudly pronounce that no melted real cheese tastes better than Velveeta, the processed food substitute that to me, out cheeses the real thing. You could slop on that velvety yellow goo on anything, even broccoli, and you'll get my taste buds standing at attention. Put it on a Geno's cheese steak in South Philly, and well, my buds are marching while my jaws are munching.

My plebeian, if not bad, taste, does not begin and end with food. Quote Shakespeare if you want to impress the OTHER English teachers 'round here; I'm a sucker for a cheesy movie line. The cheesy movie line, like its  Velveeta counterpart, isn't so REAL, but boy is it so GOOOOOOD.

Come on. Admit it. When you're watching a movie for the umpteeth time, you patiently wait for your favorite cheesy bits of dialogue as you smile, or roll on the floor in hysterics, or maybe even grow sad for a moment, or pump your fist with emotion. It doesn't matter that the lines seem so unrealistic, so contrived, so "cheesy." They're infinitely satisfying.

So you say you need some examples? Well, from my era, I've got ...

"No one puts Baby in the corner!" (Patrick Swayze says this to Baby's dad in Dirty Dancing) Swayze continues to heap on the sauce: "I do the last dance every year, and I'm going to do it again this year. Except I'm going to do it my way." Swayze has fallen in love with the young city rich girl and now wants to protect her.

"I'm the King of the World." (Leonardo DiCaprio in The Titanic) This is Leo's cry to show his love Rose that even a poor cabin boy can dream big dreams.

Even so-called "real" mobster movies aren't exempt. In The Godfather, for example, a chubby hit man by the name of Clemenza blows out someone's brains and then instructs his gang, "Leave the gun, take the cannolis" (an Italian dessert pictured above). The line shows the mobster's callousness and lack of compassion. Who could eat after killing someone? Clemenza could.

Dialogue in movies, drama, and prose, for that matter, isn't always very realistic. That's the great illusion. No one WE know would ever talk as they do in the movies, or even as they do in novels, but given the boring alternative, we also know that we want our characters to talk EXACTLY as they do.

Good dialogue may sometimes get a little cheesy, but at least it is NOT ordinary. To me, the trick is to write extraordinary, fascinating, or at least, interesting dialogue, and make it SEEM entirely natural for the situation. The pros, in any profession, make the difficult look easy: Steph Curry hits a three pointer as Luciano Pavorotti used to hit the high notes--with ease.

So when you read a novel or story, watch drama, film, or TV, listen carefully to the dialogue and then think about its purpose within its scene. Dialogue can create character, conflict, dramatic tension, move the plot along, or make us laugh, cry, and get angry. It sounds real although we know it's completed fabricated.

Assignment: Write about your favorite movie lines, their cinematic origins, their speakers, and then explain why you love them so much in 250 words or more. Focus on how each movie line "works" effectively within the movie. I would think that if you came up with a list of your TEN favorite lines complete with 20-30 word explanations, then you would have completed the assignment.
Here's a link to someone's 100 Best Movie lines if you need some help.

Many movies around the world inspire me with numerous quotes and sayings. One movie that always catches my eye is The Fault in Our Stars. I first read this book than saw the movie. The reason this movie stands out so much to me is because this book is the reason why I got so into reading in general. “As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once,” said Hazel Grace Lancaster. This quote speaks to me because I read and it brings a peaceful sense to what the author is trying to portray. Anyone can relate to the way she is describing sleeping so you can understand the way she fell in love too. “You don’t get to choose if you get hurt in this world… but you do have a say in who hurts you. I like my choices,” said Augustus Waters. This quote can relate to a lot of teens who struggle with tough times. I myself have struggled getting hurt by others and remembering this quote helps me realize that I do have a say. “It's a metaphor, see: You put the killing thing right between your teeth, but you don't give it the power to do its killing,” said Augustus Waters. In the movie, when Augustus says this line, it’s because he has an unlit cigarette in his mouth. He says this line because Hazel reacts in a bad way to what she sees since she has lung cancer. “I'm a grenade and at some point I'm going to blow up and I would like to minimize the casualties,” said Hazel Grace. This quote can not only relate to people that may have cancer like in this movie, but can also relate to people maybe with mental illnesses. People that have mental illnesses tend to think they are better off alone. “I’m on a roller coaster that only goes up, my friend,” said Augustus. This is his way of explaining that he is enjoying life to the fullest and nothing can bring him down. There are many other great quotes in this movie but these were a few of my favorite.

“I have an army. We have a hulk” – The Avengers
This quote was when the villain Loki and the hero Tony Stark met and Loki tried to scare Stark but Stark just responded by saying a response that was a “screw you” moment.
“My little baby, off to destroy people.” – Mulan
When Mulan posed as a male to fight for her injured father in battle, Mushu, her protector said this as a joke because it was true, a young girl was about to go fight and kill in battle.
“What could be worse than one giant paint bubble? Oh I know! Two giant paint bubbles!” – SpongeBob Squarepants
SpongeBob and Patrick get the daunting task to paint Mr. Krabs’ house without getting any paint on anything or else and they get scared so when a giant paint bubble appears, Patrick makes it worse.
“You can do it!” – The Waterboy
While Adam Sandler was in the hospital with his mom, he was not sure if he would return to football, but out the window many of his fans arrived and one yelled this to him. I like it and I will say it sometimes jokingly.
“You want the truth? You can’t handle the truth!” – A few Good Men
This is one of the most recognizable quotes from any movie and it ties into the story because the person the lawyer was yelling at was not telling the truth and kept lying to him.
“The first rule of fight club. Don’t talk about fight club.” – Fight Club
This quote also sets up many other quotes in movies but with different subjects and again is a very recognizable quote.
“This is Sparta!” – 300
This quote is also a very recognizable quote going along with Spartan teams around the country and becoming a counter funny thing to say when someone says this is ____.
You think darkness is your ally? You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it.” - The Dark Knight Rises
This is when Batman first meets the villain Bane and Bane mocks Batman by saying that Batman does not run the darkness, Bane does.
“I’ll be back” – The Terminator
This is another very recognizable quote that Arnold Schwarzenegger said in the movie that signalled that he would return.
“If you build it, he will come” – Field of Dreams
This quote is seen as a quote that uplifts the heart because it makes people know that if people follow their dreams, they will reach them and if you trust in the process of something, the outcome will be great.

One popular movie is The Wizard of OZ. In this movie Dorthy says the famous line “ Toto, I've got a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.” This line works effectively in the movie because it tells how Dorthy isn't in her home town anymore. This line in other shows and movies as an allusion to display how the person isn't in a familiar place anymore. Another popular line from a movie is from the Lion King. In the Lion King after Simba loses his father in an accident he lives with a hog and meerkat and they teach him to not stress about everything by using the line “Hakuna Matata” which means no worries. This line works in the movie and when people use it in conversations because its a simple way to tell someone to relax and not to worry about everything. The last movie that has more than one popular quote is The Little Rascals. One of the famous lines in this movie is by Darla when she says “He makes me melt like the fourth of July.” This quote works because the girl in the movie is probably only seven years old and shes talking about how this boy makes her feel. The quote also works because it expresses feelings from a child's point of view.

The remainder of the movie, Sam is dead yet a character can talk to spirits. The medium finds the girlfriend and tries to convince Molly that Sam really loved her. At the end of the film, Sam finally appears and tells her he loves her. Molly responds with “Ditto”, and with this response means that she knew he loved her even with that response.

1. “I just wanna hit something. I wanna hit it hard!” – Sally field in Steel Magnolias

2. “You can’t sit with us!” – Gretchen Wieners in Mean Girls
This quote is important in the movie because it shows the relationship between the “plastics.” Gretchen says this to the leader of the plastics when the leader becomes too fat and wears sweatpants, which they can only wear once a week. This shows the poor relationship between the two and how they aren’t really friends.
3. “Every man dies, but not every man lives” – William Wallace in Braveheart

Stand By Me- “You’re not taking him. Nobody is taking him.”
This line is said by Gordie Lachance. Gordie and his friends are on a search for a dead body. When they find out an older and mean group of boys show up after them and say they are taking the body. Gordie shoots a gun and says this line. This shows Gordie stepping up and taking charge against these older boys. This is a big part for Gordie because he has never done something like this before in his life and thats why this line is significant.
The Great Gatsby- “That city; my once golden shimmering mirage now made me sick.”
This line is said by Nick Carraway at the very end of the movie. This line sums up Nicks experience living next to Gatsby. Nicks life in New York City was not good. Nick saying this line refers to everything that has happened in his life from the moment he met Gatsby which makes this line very important.
Perks of being a Wallflower- “And in this moment, I swear, we are infinite.”
This line is said by Charlie, a teenager who seems to not fit in very well with the normal crowd. This line makes me happy for Charlie because when he says it, it makes me feel that he is finally happy and content with his life. Charlie finally finds a group of friends that he loves in high school and they make him finally feel infinite.

My first favorite movie line is from the movie Napoleon Dynamite. The line, “Your mom goes to college,” is said by Kip when a girl comes to his door asking for his brother to buy beads for her to go to college. The line goes perfectly with the dry humor and nerdy characters of the movie.
My second favorite movie line is from the movie Jaws. The line, “You’re gonna need a bigger boat,” is said by Brody when the shark comes very close to the boat and he sees the size of it. The line goes great with the movie because the movie is very serious, yet has a lot of great one liners.
My next favorite movie line is from the movie Gone with the Wind. The line, "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn, is said by Rhett Butler when the girl he had been crushing on the whole movie tried to show affection towards him. This line is brilliantly said because it shows that he was officially done with her and has moved on to bigger things.
My fourth favorite movie line is from the movie The Terminator. The line, “I’ll be back,” is said by the Terminator. The line shows the impact Terminator had on society and that he will be back once again.
My fifth favorite movie line is from the movie Lord of The Rings. The line, “My precious,” is said by Gollum many times throughout the trilogy. The line is used constantly and shows how important the ring was to Gollum.
My sixth favorite movie line from the movie Rocky. The line, “Yo, Adrian,” is said by Rocky and exemplifies the love he has for her. This movie is very heart warming and can bring out the fighter in anyone and that is why this line sums up the movie perfectly because it shows the determination Rocky had in boxing and with his wife.

There are many movie quotes that stay in your brain forever. That ten years from now, you would still remember those certain lines in the movie. Here are a few of my favorites.

The Parent Trap: “That girl is without a doubt, the lowest, most awful creature to ever walk the planet!” This was said by Annie when Hallie, her twin, sabotaged her cabin. This works effectively in the movie because the twins go from hating each other to realizing they are twins and love each other. I love this line so much because it is exaggerated and funny because it is an eleven year old girl saying this.

Freaky Friday: Harry- “Grandpa! Pass the Milk!” Grandpa- “Earthquake!!!” This was said by the little boy in the movie when he shakes the table and his grandpa thinks it is an earthquake. This movie quote is very memorable and hilarious. It fits in with the movie because the overall movie is meant to be funny. I love this quote so much because you can say it and everyone will know what movie it is from and get a kick out of it.

A Cinderella Story: “I live in a world full of people pretending to be something they’re not.” Austin Aims says this quote to Sam (who is Cinderella). This is not a big part in the movie but this line sticks out to me. It fits in with the movie because Austin is pretending to love football and his girlfriend is pretending to be someone she is not, but Sam isn’t hiding anything. I love this quote because it is relatable and true in real life.

“I am ready to partyyyyyy.”
-Annie (Bridesmaids)
This quotes explains Annie’s experience on her flight. She takes a pill to relax herself because she is afraid of planes. She ends up getting intoxicated and under this pill. It shows the comedy in this movie.
Noah: “I wrote you 365 letter. I wrote you every day for a year.”
Allie: “You wrote me?”
Noah: “Yes…it wasn’t over, it still isn’t over.”
-Noah and Allie (The Notebook)
“If you’re a bird, I’m a bird.”
-Noah (The Notebook)
Shows Noah’s love, compassion, and commitment to Allie. He is experiencing her carefree side and her soon to be free side… free as a bird.
Beth: You’re changing that boy’s life.
Leigh Anne Touhy: No, he’s changing mine.
-(The Blind Side)
This quote explains that as much as Leigh Anne is helping and changing Michael’s life, she is being changed and getting help herself. She is getting a new perspective in her life as well as her families.
Brian: “We’re all pretty bizarre, some of us are just better at hiding it.”
-(The Breakfast Club)
This quote explains that we are all the same in some way, even if you can’t see it at first.
Edward Cole: “We live, we die, and the wheels on the bus go round and round.”
-(The Bucket List)
Edward is explaining what the cycle of life is and what is there to come to everybody. That the world keeps revolving even if you are dead. The world does not revolve around you or anybody else.
Christopher Gardner: “Hey. Don’t ever let somebody tell you… you can’t do something. Not even me. All right?”
-(The Pursuit of Happyness)
Jamie: “You have to promise you won’t fall in love with me.”
-(A walk to Remember)
Landon: “Our love is like the wind… I can’t see it, but I sure can feel it.”
Landon is explaining that even though Jamie has passed away he can still feel her love and she can still feel his. They both love each other no matter what… nothing can get between them not even death.

My first movie quote is from the movie Step Brothers. The quote is by Brennan Huff, “I swear, I'm so pissed off at my mom. As soon as she's of age, I'm putting her in a home.” This is one of my favorite quotes because of the humor. It reminded me of when I get into fights with my mother. My second quote is from the movie Happy Gilmore. The quote is by the main character Happy Gilmore, “The price is wrong! B*tch!” During thus part of the movie Happy is in a fist fight with the host of the price is right. Once Happy wins the fight he has that to say to him. My third movie quote is from the movie Sudden Impact. The quote is by Harry Callaghan, “Go ahead, make my day.” During this scene Harry is in a square off with a criminal. He dares the criminal to move so he can shoot him. My fourth movie quote is from the movie Terminator. The quote is by Arnold Schwarzenegger, “I’ll be back.” During the movie everyone has thought they have defeated the terminator and he scares them all and sets up a sequel. My fifth movie quote is from the movie Scarface. The quote is by Tony Montana, “Say hello to my little friend.” During this scene Tony Montana shoot many people with his gun. His gun is who he is referring to as his”little friend.”My sixth movie quote is from the movie Field of Dreams. The quote is by Shoeless Joe Jackson, “If you build it, he will come.” In the scene the ghost of Shoeless Joe Jackson is telling the main character to build a field in a big corn field. My seventh movie quote is from the Movie The Godfather. The quote is by Don Corleone, “I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse.” During this scene the Godfather says this because you can not refuse an offer from him. If you fo he will kill you.

"My first love was everything all at once. The kind that you never fall back from. Never try to. Never want to. My love's so big. So strong. It never dies. Never fades. Never losses its electricity. The kind of love you fight for. The kind of boy you fight for." (Gabriella Wilde in Endless Love) I absolutely love this line in the movie because she describes her love for David perfectly. It's so cheesy yet so romantic.

"So there's something else I wanna tell you. Right before everything went black, you wanna know the very last thing that entered my mind? You." (Channing Tatum in Dear John) When Channing was fatally injured and blacked out Savannah was the last thing he thought about. It shows how important she is to him and how much he loves her.

"Houston we have a problem" (Tom Hanks as astronaut Jim Lovell in Apollo 13) It was based on the true story of a NASA mission.

"The name's Bond. James Bond." (Pierce Brosnan as James Bond)

"Fish are friends. Not food." (Dorey from Finding Nemo)

"Marriage is like a tense, unfunny version of Everybody Loves Raymond. Only it doesn't last 22 minutes. It lasts forever." (Pete, played by Paul Rudd in Knocked Up)

(Chuck Noland (Tom Hanks) in Cast Away)

“You're your problem and you're also your solution." (Megan (Melissa McCarthy) in Bridesmaids)

“Our fingerprints don't fade from the lives we've touched.” (Tyler Hawkins (Robert Pattinson) in Remember Me)

"It ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward." (Rocky Balboa -Sylvester Stallone)

1.“What’s in the box”-Brad Pitt in Seven. He says this after Morgan Freeman opens the box, which has Pitt’s wife’s head in it, that the murder murderer delivers. I like this quote because Pitt’s wife represents the last of the seven deadly sins, stating that they couldn't stop the killer.
2.“With great power, comes great responsibility”-Spiderman. Peter Parker’s uncle tells this to Peter the last time he talks to him before his death. I like this quote because it has a very strong meaning and is memorable.
3.“Why so serious”-Heath Ledger as the Joker in the Dark Knight. The Joker says this to a man while he is holding a knife to the man’s throat. I like this quote mostly because Heath Ledger did a fantastic job in this movie.
4.“Wilson!”-Tom Hanks in Castaway. After surviving a storm at sea, Hanks realizes his volleyball friend is no longer aboard his wooden raft. Wilson helped Hanks get through all that time on the island, making him feel like he wasn't alone.
5.“Not you fat Jesus”-Rob Riggle in Hangover. Riggle plays a police officer in the movie that arrests the main characters for their actions the previous night. Riggle says this to the character Allen who has long hair and a beard. The Hangover is one of my favorite comedies so that’s why I choose it.
6. “And that our greatest accomplishments cannot be behind us, because our destiny lies above us.”- Matthew McConaughey in Interstellar. I choose this line because Interstellar is probably one of my favorite movies. McConaughey says this because the whole movie is about finding a new planet for humans to live on and he wants people to know humanity needs to leave earth.

7.“I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you”- Liam Neeson in Taken. Neeson says this to his daughter’s kidnapper in the beginning of the movie over the phone. I like this quote so much because Neeson is so confident that he will find the kidnapper.
8.“This is no longer a vacation. It's a quest. It's a quest for fun.”-Clark from National Lampoon’s Vacation. After a long trip, the family wants to go home before even getting to the theme park. Clark flips out because he doesn't want to turn around. This quote just shows funny this movie is and that’s why I picked it.
9.“Today junior!”-Adam Sandler in Billy Madison. Sandler says this to a kid who has trouble reading out loud and is stuttering a lot. This quote just reminds me of the old Adam Sandler before he got old and not funny.
10.“I am your father”-Darth Vader in Star Wars. He says this line to his son Luke Skywalker who doesn't know that Vader is his dad. I like this quote because I like the series and this is one of the biggest quotes of it.

In my free time I love to watch many movies no matter the genre: comedies, action thrillers, and romance occasionally. As long as they have good plats and dialogue I'll watch it. Some of my favorite dialogue comes from Home Alone 2 when little Kevin McCallister played by Macaulay Culkin puts on the TV in his hotel room in New York as he's being chased by the hotel employees. The dialogue off the TV says, "Merry Christmas you filthy little animals, and a happy New Year". Then the TV character starts to fire bullets, which scares the employees because they think Kevin is shooting at him and he gets away from being caught. I like this movie line because it shows how very clever Kevin is at the age of 10 he is able to allude his capture and discovery by the employees. My other favorite line from this movie is when a hotel employee breaks into Kevin's hotel room to get evidence that he is alone and by himself so Kevin quickly turns in the shower and puts his inflatable pool toy in the shower and controls it like a puppet. Ss he controls it he plays a tape recorder of a song so it makes it seem like it's his father singing. Then when the employee walks into the bathroom the tape says, "Get out of here you filthy little pervert or I'm gonna slap you silly!" Thus shows how once again little Kevin and his whits can allude capture.

1. "I'm here to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and I'm all out of bubble gum"-Roddy Piper in "Roddy Piper's Kicking Ass"
- This line, spoken by wrestler Roddy Piper in his movie Kicking Ass, was said to show he's ready to fight. The reference to not having bubble gum makes it especially cheesy.
2. "You tell em I'm comin' and Hell's comin' with me!"- Kurt Russell in Tombstone
- In this western movie, Kurt Russell says that when he comes for his enemies, he's brining Hell with him. This was supposedly meant to be intimidating.
3. "That's it man, game over!"- Alien
-This line was spoken by a soldier in the movie Alien. The soldier is admitting defeat, while also coining the very cheesy line "game over", perhaps a reference to the video game spin off of the film franchise.
4. "I eat Green Berets for breakfast. And right now, I'm pretty hungry!"- Commando
-In this line, Schwarzenneger drops an ultra cheesy line as the prologue to a major fight scene. Perhaps it sounded cool in 1985, but now it sounds awful, like the many one liners he dropped throughout his career.
5. "Pop quiz, hotshot"-Speed
- Keeanu Reeves, on a bus with a bomb strapped to it, attempts to show his expertise by calling someone a hotshot. It's doubtful this line was effective back then, but it certainly isn't now. Hotshot is almost certainly going to be found in the synonyms category of the word cheesy.
6. "Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the gun."- Army of Darkness
- Perhaps the title gives away how cheesy the movie will be, but this line is overboard. The protagonist of the movie, portrayed as an antihero, says he doesn't care if you think of him as a good guy or a bad guy because he has a gun regardless.
7. "I like the death! I like the misery! I like this world!"- Cyborg
-The antagonist of the movie Cyborg professes his love of the new futuristic world where death and suffering are prevalent. It would be hard to take any antagonist seriously when he says cheesy lines like this.
8. "Whatever you say, Jack! You're the master race!"- Highlander
-This movie, which chronicles a superior race of humans on earth, provides this gem of a cheesy line. A member of the subservient race says this to a member of the dominant one.
9. "One day you'll close your eyes, and when they open I'll be there. It'll be time to die." -Invasion USA
- Chuck Norris couldn't be left off this list. This threat, given to a member of the army invading the US, was supposedly intended to scare someone. Luckily, it was delivered by Norris, so the effect was there, but for anyone else this would have been a cheesy disaster.
10. "You're the disease, and I'm the cure."- Cobra
-As if the name wasn't bad enough, Sly Stallone gives one of the worst lines of his career in this terrible movie. As a Beverly Hills cop, Stallone delivers this message to the antagonist who has taken hostages. It doesn't get cheesier than this.

“If you build it, they will come.” (Shoeless Joe Jackson played by Ray Liotta in Field of Dreams)
This quote explains that if the man who owns the land (Kevin Costner) builds a baseball field, the people will come to watch.
“It doesn’t matter how hard you hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.” (Rocky played by Sylvester Stallone in Rocky)
This quote Rocky says means that the person that can handle the most adversity will be successful in life.
“You like that old man, you want a piece of me?” (Happy Gilmore played by Adam Sandler)
He says this when he is fighting Bob Barker, he is asking him if he enjoys getting beat up, and was wondering if he was actually going to retaliate.
“Do not go gentle into that good night; Old age should burn and rave at close of day. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.” (Dr. Brand played by Michael Cane in Interstellar)
This quote means that you must live your life to the fullest and don’t die softly. Make yourself remembered when you are gone.
“I am in a glass case of emotion.” (Ron Burgundy played by Will Ferrell in Anchorman)
He is saying that he is so upset that his dog died, he was in a telephone booth and could not contain his feelings of sorrow.
“Are you not entertained.” (Maximus Arrileus played by Russell Crowe in Gladiator)
This quote means that as a gladiator, his role is to kill people to entertain. He asks the crowd in disgust when he kills his enemy in the ring.
“I’m a peacock, you gotta let me fly!” (Terry Hoitz played by Mark Wahlberg in The Other Guys)
He is telling his boss he needs to let him go out and help the station other than sitting in a desk all day. It’s ironic, though, because peacocks can’t fly.

"We all go a little mad sometimes" is a quote said by the character Norman Bates in Psycho. Now we don't all go as mad as he did, but everyone has a little oddness in them.
"I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way" is a quote from Jessica Rabbit in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. This seems to me like a "don't judge a book by its cover" moment and that's why I like it.
"You're gonna need a bigger boat" is a quote said by Martin Brody in Jaws, when they realize how big and powerful the man-eating shark is.
"There's no crying in baseball!" is said by Jimmy Dugan in A League of Their Own. This quote is great just because he's yelling at a bunch of women that he doesn't even really know.
"Surely you can't be serious..." "I am serious. And don't call me Shirley." This is a dialogue piece between two characters in the movie Airplane! This movie is a classic comedy, which needs no explanation.
"I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you" is a quote from the movie Taken said by Bryan Mills. He is talking to his daughter's captors.
"Life is a box of chocolates, Forrest. You never know what you're gonna get" is said by Mrs. Gump in Forrest Gump. She tells her son this to help him with the difficulties he has been dealt in life.
"So long...partner" is the last line of Woody in Toy Story 3. He is letting go of his best friend Andy.
"I do wish we could chat longer, but I'm having an old friend for dinner" is said by Hannibal Lector is Silence of the Lambs. This line is kind of funny because he is a notorious cannibal, so by saying he's having a friend for dinner, it implies he's eating them.
"I'll be right here..." says E.T. in the movie E.T. as he points to his friend's heart to tell him he will always be with him no matter what.
