Sophs: The Powerful Play Goes On ... (Homework below)
“That the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse ….”
Walt Whitman offered this as a reason why YOU are important to this world, even midst the foolish and the faithless.
So tell me what “verse” you will contribute to the world, in three to four sentences OR lines of verse.
Do not include your name in YOUR VERSE (but of course, indicate who you, as always, when you post your comment).
I intend to put all of your class’s responses together into one Song of the Sophs that we will set to music and sing at the next school-wide assembly.
(Only kidding about the music and singing part).
Due before class on Thursday.

My verse would be to give my full effort every day to make the world a better place. By always trying my best I can be a role model towards others. When everyone tries their best the world can be a beautiful place.
I will be like the Learn’d Astronomer and think “outside of the classroom.” I’ll experience the world and nature first hand. I will do this so I can show make other people and things better.

I believe that everyone here on Earth is here for a reason, and that everyone has their own contribution to society. I believe my place is as a necessary part to my family, and hopefully as a positive influence to society as I grow up. I think that no matter how some may feel, all have a part in the world.
I will be remembered.
Not just another unnamed face in a sea of people.
What I've done will be shared throughout time.
Irrefutably important and acknowledged by all.
I will work hard to be successful.
I will not be afraid of failure.
I will strive for greatness.
And no matter what I will always be myself.
I will give to the world what the world gave to me. I will aid the sickly in return for my health; I will assist the elderly as gratitude for my youth. I will guide the young in recognition of my maturity; I will feed the poor with the understanding of my fortunes.
I want to become a doctor. I want to help others who are sick so that they may be healthy once more. I want to help find cures to diseases and help make the world a healthier place.
I could be anything.
An engineer, a lawyer, a politician.
Yet when it is all over,
I just want to help the needy.
To stand up for what is right,
And keep on the right path.
So that when I need to find my own way,
I can be great. I can make a difference.
I can change a life for the better.
I want to travel the world

When I graduate from college I will try to contribute as much as I can to my desired field. I will try to educate younger children in the way that they should act towards one another. I want to be a part of building a well rounded society for my children's children.

Everyday I strive to be my best.
I try to spread my exhilarance to the north, south, east, and west.
Never will i put my pursuit of happiness to rest.
The “verse” I will contribute to the world is that I plan to become a veterinarian. The contribution I will give is that I will help keep the world’s animals healthy and help keep pet owning families happy. Also hopefully I will help find a cure for an illness that affects animals.
I want one day to look in the mirror and be proud

But I have a lot of pep

Memory is what makes people who they are. I am who am I and always will be who I am because of what I’ll remember throughout my life.
I want to be a memory, whether it’s as a friend, student, teacher, lover, anything.
I won’t be forgotten like a picture gathering dust on a wall. Even after my last goodbye it wont be the end of my life. I will be remembered.
I am who God put me on this earth to be,

In all of the imperfections, I will strive to find the beauty.
Of all the inequalities, the perception of women can be reshaped.
In all of our biggest dreams follows, the strength and sacrifice to achieve.

Whether I paint the achroous sky with parnassian flare, or I bring the selcouth fleer to the melancholy, I will be remembered.

I wanted to be remembered for my words, and the worlds I create.
But most importantly I want to be remembered for the way I made people feel.
I will strive for perfection

My verse I hope will be like that of a sunrise. It will beckon in a new age of peace and equality for all cultures.

And just as people look to the sunrise to welcome in a new day so to do I hope that my verse will welcome in a new generation founded on the principals of unity, acceptence of all people, and more importantly peace throughout our world.
I don't yet know how I'll change the world
But I want it to be meaningful.

But in the end, I want to bring happiness to those who need it most.
